Hey other pizza joints -- take note of the plate and silverware! A real plate! No plasticware! None of that ridiculous round little metal plate that most pizza places use that doesn't sit evenly on the table and it spins and spins. None of the paper under the pizza on your plate that disintegrates if you try to cut your pizza. Such novelties! This is the first time I've eaten in here. I've gotten it to go many times and I have always been pleased. Tonight, dining in, it was all right. Certainly nothing to write home about. Our waitress was nice. The inside of the establishment is a bit dated and could use a facelift. The green walls are not very appetizing. The booths are not very comfortable. There isn't a lot of seating. The food tonight was not as good as usual. I generally think this place is really good. Tonight, the crusts were a touch overdone. And the crusts had sort of an odd aftertaste. I think it was the oil on the bottom of the crust? Maybe the oil is getting old and tastes off? Also, I got the spinach ricotta topping. I normally really enjoy that. I love spinach. So I paid for the spinach ricotta (which is charged as two toppings) and it, too, tasted...off. I actually scraped it off my pizza. You know when spinach has been in the refrigerator too long and it gets that kinda unpleasant taste and smell? Yeah. That's what this was like tonight. So overall, this is a restaurant I enjoy. This is the second time the have got my order wrong. I called them to let them know this time and the manager or owner told me I was stuck with it because the girl repeated my order back. They also forgot my extra bread and gave me a umsweet tea to begin with. This establishment has went down hill and will not be returning. read more

Delivery was absolutely perfect - within 2 minutes of my requested time. The pizza was one of the 4 best I've ever had delivered, however, the salad was exvellent and the dressing (we asked for ranch) was obviously homemade. What an amazing flavor and silky mouth feel. If you want a great constant old school pizza parlor. Then Avellino's is your place. They have been in the Southaven area for over 30 years. The inside is pretty small and could use a little updating, but its always clean. They have a couple of big screen tv's on the walls. Usually playing whatever sport is in season at the time. The staff is always friendly and they work very hard. I have never had any issues. They bend over backwards for you. I ordered the pizza and my wife got Ravioli with Meat Sauce. They were both very good. The place was packed so we picked our food up and took it home. As usual we had no complaints. They also have great sandwiches and other pasta dishes. You really cant go wrong. If your looking for high quality quick food. You should give Avellino's a try. You wont be disapointed! read more

Quaint old school locally owned pizza place located rather unassuminly in a strip mall. First time here and wasn't sure what to expect but the food reviews were certainly positive so why not try. Place has roughly 15-20 tables and plenty of TVs to catch a game or 2.Dinner salad was ok but the pizza was delicious. Nice chewy flavorful crust with a tasty sauce and loaded with plenty of toppings.Definitely will return and recommend you give them a try. read more

I really like Avellino's, both for eat in it take away. Tonight I ordered on their website and picked it up to take home. We got an order of 6inch pizza bread, beef ravioli, jalapeño poppers, and 2 medium (12 inch) pizzas - a sausage supreme and a veggie supreme. Website said it'd be ready at 553pm but it's a Friday night so I assumed (correctly) "yeah dawg that ain't gonna be ready at no 553pm". It was about 10 minutes later when it was all brought out. No biggie as I said I knew they weren't gonna be timely on this order. I like how Avellino's puts a really nice amount of toppings on the pizza but it's not a ridiculous amount that makes the pizza fail structurally and dump its load all over your lap. Ordered delivery today after receiving their menu in the mail. Figured I'd give it a shot instead of cooking today. I got a sausage and pepper sub, which I make at home and loveeee. However from here, it's dry and very tasteless. My husband got a roast beef sub which was toasted w, tomatoes and lettuce still on it?? Like is that a thing? We also got 10 wings which were somehow dry af even tho they had sauce on them. I literally don't understand how everything was so dry and overcooked there's literally sauce on top. I don't know. This is a landmark place in Southaven. The McCune's take pride in it and seem to keep good staff. The BBQ pizza is a must order in my opinion and the fried ravioli is yum. They make great salads I hear but Im not wasting stomach space on that when they have so many cheesy and delicious treats. Atmosphere is a solid family vibe but also does some fantasy football league things that are also fun. Good stuff. read more

For a mom & pop pizza shop, Avellino's is really good. I've been there twice now and had a calzone both times. The first time I created my own, chicken and onion, the second time I went with their meatball. I have to say, my second visit was much better than the first. I like my calzone dough to be crispy or at least stiff like a wood fired pizza crust, but the first calzone I got was a bit on the soggy side. The second was just as it was supposed to be, so I'm guessing something went awry the first time. One issue we had during my second time there was, we were there for a business lunch with a customer and my colleague ordered a supreme pizza. They brought out a BBQ pizza! We mentioned this and the cook in the back insisted they made a supreme, that is until the head cook came out to look at it. They offered to make him a new pizza, but of course he was fine with what he received and declined. He said the pizza was good, but he was a bit disappointed with the mis-delivery to our table. We are blaming it on the government created COVID employment crisis so no real ding on Avellino's! Give 'em a try, just be patient. In fact, be patient with all the food/retail service businesses. It is fascinating that a restaurant that has been in business as long as Avellino's has, continues to provide inconsistent and mediocre food. I should have taken a photo of the pizza that we got. The toppings were 75% olives on a Supreme with 0 sauce and cosing more tha$20. The lasagna was made with meatballs because; I guess they had toooooo many meatballs and needed to use them up. BTY, the meat on the SUPREME pizza was sliced meatballs. Not again. My fault that I spent almost $50 on food that ended up being thrown away. read more

The place is pretty small however it was packed so you know it's good! I ordered half BBQ and half supreme pizza. The BBQ was delicious, it reminded me of Garibaldis BBQ pizza which I LOVE! The supreme was good as well, a little too many olives for my liking however that was my fault for not ordering them without. Also, order their ranch - it's SO good and made in house! How sad it is when one of your favorite go to eateries goes downhill! Upon entering our former favorite local pizza place, we were surprised to see how run down it looks. The floors are ruined and the tables are not much better. That could be dismissed, but the service delivery is what got the 2 star ranking. It seems there are different owners who have hired a bunch of teenage girls to stand at the counter and chit chat, only occasionally running food. Only half our food came out at first. Then our server brought my semi warm calzone and said she did not know why nobody had brought it sooner. A grown woman behind the desk spent more of her time bemoaning not being able to see the cars out in the parking lot. The food was only fair, not the usual. At the end of our meal, they mixed up our check and did fix it, including taking off our drinks. That is why they got more than 1 star! read more

My husband visited Avellino's last week so I could have a night off from cooking dinner. If I could rate this establishment and our experience I'd give them a sad and disappointing zero. The ordeal was the most awful, unsettling, and degrading experience ever. We started patronizing Abellino's years ago without any noticeable issues but this time we were treated so poorly by the employees especially from one racist crew member in particular it was downright despicable he was comfortable boldly making racist comments under his breath that he assumed my husband couldn't hear but did and so did one of the hostesses, therefore, he was sent home while my husband walked out behind him to leave with 2 pizza pies this "worker" closed the door in my husbands face. We ordered/paid online and was given an expectant ready time of 7:18 pm. A manager was requested by my husband but no one cared to look for his order or even locate a manager to discuss/resolve this matter. When my husband finally received our food it was ice cold only one hostess that repeatedly apologized showed any concern regarding this mistreatment. This is certainly not the customer service we are accustomed to receiving when spending our hard-earned money. I wouldn't recommend patronizing this establishment ever again to allow this type of small-mindedness in their place of business dealing with different cultures. He and I will definitely spread the word around our neighborhood and at our place of employment. I've been told that Mike McCune owns this establishment and that the day shift is totally different from the night. During the day Ms. Peggy and Ms. Shirley are the cooks there I wonder if they are aware of such blatant racism being tolerated. read more

The food is alright. The first time I ate there I ordered Chicken Alfredo and it was bland. The chicken tasted like it was boiled and the dish lacked seasoning. I asked to trade it for something else and got spaghetti. It was better than the chicken, but still not great. Last time it was delivered the bag was wet with grease and the sauces were all over the containers. My calzone was super disappointing. All of the cheese and toppings were outside of the crust. I had to stuff it in and even then the crust was rough and hard to eat. The only thing that saved it was that the appetizers were good. I have given it two chances and I have learned my lesson. read more

First time at Avellino's. Had the craving for Italian and found AP on yelp. Had the Monday special, lasagna, salad and garlic bread. First, easily enough for 2 or 3 people. Salad and bread were good and freshly made. The lasagna had a really good red sauce. It had a little heat to it. A lot of sausage in the lasagna buried under plenty of sauce. Wanted to try this since it was the only Italian place open til 10, never again. Ordered the garlic butter pasta and it was so bland. Literally tasted like noodles with melted butter and Parmesan sprinkled on it. Had no flavor. Entrees come with Italian bread and that too was just buttered bread. No Italian seasoning whatsoever. This place has a mom and pop feel. The pizza's come in 3 sizes. Small, Med and Large. Its a pizzeria that serves lasagna, sandwiches and salads. I had the small, made to order pizza. It came out pretty good! They also have a small domestic and import beer selection. The seating area is adequate. You can sit, eat and socialize without feeling like you are bunched up with other patrons. This pizzeria is in a little strip mall that isnt actually on Goodman blvd. My family and have been enjoying Avellinos for 20 years. Today, after a 40 minute wait for our salads and appetizers combined with rude sullen behavior by our server, we walked out. After two decades of good service and awesome food, we were treated to a waitress with major attitude. She lied to us to defend herself in our request for our salads and appetizers. She told us that they served the salads with the meal and that's how they did things here. Really? Our two decades of bi -monthly meals says otherwise. We certainly had never seen her there before. And what about our appetizers? 40 minutes for appetizers? A request to turn the air conditioner to a warmer temperature (it was February)was met with a sullen look and a "tough guy"nod. At one point I heard the waitress tell my daughter "you were in the bathroom when I came by" in response to her request for a refill. My daughter never went to the bathroom and if she has, it was a little impolite to mention it. Not to mention that the only way we got refills was to place our empties in a massive pile at the end of our table and flag her down. It was my daughters birthday celebration. We were deeply deeply disappointed and saddened to see such incompetence and rudeness at a restaurant we've enjoyed for 20 years. read more
