I just returned home after a very pleasant first visit with this vet. I cannot imagine why anyone would post a one-star review about Avalon Veterinary Hospital--especially not about pricing or to insinuate dishonesty or manipulation of prices out of some sort of greed and disregard for Avalon's customers. I almost didn't call for an appointment after reading the negative review, but I'm glad I did call. I had received a postcard from Avalon that offered a pet exam for $1. My first instinct was to look for the small print, expecting the usual string of ifs, ands and buts. I found none. I am always suspicious of "too good to be true" advertisement, but I can say with certainty that there was NO CATCH to Avalon's $1 exam. There were NO unexpected charges added. Avalon was not dishonest: the exam really did cost me $1. Of course, not all exams cost $1 at Avalon, but I was impressed that the advertisement was true. My dog needs dental services that require sedation, so I was very concerned about frightening episodes of breathing difficulty she had experienced. I needed to find out what caused it before allowing her to be sedated. The vet advised me to do blood work to be certain about moving forward with the dental procedures. This was not an unexpected charge added to the $1 exam--I needed the labs either way, for the dental work or for finding out whether she has a new medical condition that caused another breathing episode early this morning. If the lab results are good and we proceed with the dental work, the cost of the labs will be deducted from the dental package fee. Avalon's dental services will cost much less than my usual vet's price. I called other vets to check prices and their fees were much less than my usual vet's prices, too, but still somewhat more than Avalon's prices. My vet charges $20 for nail clipping, but Avalon has a spa day offering a pedicure for $10. Each office visit also awards points which can accumulate for future credit on my bill. So where's the greed or disregard for Avalon's customers? Most importantly, my dog was very comfortable with everyone I met today, especially the vet--even for her first visit. That ease is not always there for my little dog. (Dogs know! They perceive kindness even before we do.) When that ease is not there for her or for me, I know to look for another vet. For these reasons, I completely disagree with the negative review. Melissa's insinuation of Avalon's greed and the staff's view of its customers as $$ signs are unfounded. I just took my precious little dog for dental services at Avalon, which included removing two baby teeth she had retained. I was concerned about sedation needed to do the extraction and cleaning, because she had been having breathing episodes that were frightening for her and for me. I first took her in for an exam and talked to Dr. Morley about her breathing episodes. Dr. Morley suggested Benadryl for allergies might help, which I started, but I was still concerned about the sedation. The vet was understanding of my fears and assured me that they would do blood tests before putting her under sedation and would watch her carefully during the cleaning, even if the lab results were normal. As expected my dog had a tough day on the day of cleaning and extraction and for about a day and a half after the procedure. Now she is back to her cute antics and living in a world that she thinks she owns. I received an estimate for the dental services, but the actual charges ended up being less than estimated. I think that is the first time that has happened since I've been taking dogs to vets (for decades). Dental services are very expensive, but it would have been worse at my previous vet's prices. Good homes are needed for so many animals, but many vets are priced beyond the means of kind, loving people who would give them a home. It's sad to me that the expense of vet care often means animals have to be put to sleep. I'm limited to having two dogs by the cost of vet care, too. I'm glad I found Avalon with more reasonable pricing. read more

Avalon is a great place for pet care. Although all vet care is expensive, Avalon is far less expensive than other vets. I once had a vet to charge $59 to look into my 8-pound dog's mouth to see how many baby teeth needed to be extracted. I asked that vet (not Avalon) to do so while my dog was on location for grooming because I needed to budget for the teeth cleaning and needed to know when to schedule the procedure by how much extra cost would be charged for extraction. The $59 was NOT credited to the charges for routine cleaning and extraction of two baby teeth. My little dog had no other issue with her teeth, just the retained baby teeth and routine cleaning. This is an expensive procedure without charging $59 dollars for simply looking in a dog's mouth at side teeth, easily viewed by lifting the sides of a dog's mouth. If vets would consider the many pets in need of homes and keep prices lower so people could afford to care for them, many pets would not be suffering and be exploited for fundraising on TV. It impressed me that Emily at Avalon actually rescues strays and finds home for them. Try Avalon and save money for pet care. read more

I love this place! The ladies at the front, the vet techs, the vet herself - they are ALL so gentle and kind with my animals. They're knowledgeable and it's clear how much they love their patients. They're always snuggling a fur baby at the front - which I love! And my big pittie mix feels at ease here. They understand how expensive things are and don't recommend unnecessary procedures/products which I so appreciate. We unfortunately lost our 6 month old cane corso puppy at home a few months back. We brought her in as she was too big to bury at home. The staff was so incredibly kind to our grieving family. They stayed a few minutes late for us, helped my husband bring her inside with a stretcher, handled her body with kindness and respect. They made multiple paw prints for my children to keep, and even put some of her fur into several little keepsake bottles so they could keep a part of her. They didn't act annoyed about it, us asking for several, and were so, so kind. The staff here is top notch, and I don't ever want to take my fur babies anywhere else! read more

This is the ONLY place I will take my dogs! The staff is so nice and knowledgeable. One of my dogs had really itchy skin that was really bothering both him and me. The medication and bath routine that Dr. Morley recommend made my dog's condition 100% better in a very short period of time. I was happy with how I was treated when I made the appointment to the follow up call the next day. They really went above and beyond, and I cannot say enough good things about my experience! Avalon Staff has been caring for mine and my friend's fur-babies for almost a decade. I would not have my dogs today if it wasn't for the care and attention they receive from Dr. Morley and staff. My dogs are so excited to go see them and they don't want to come home once they get there. We have had quite the journey with one of the boys and so fortunate to have them care for us during such difficult times. read more
