This place is small in size for a restaurant but the quality of food is great! I don't normally go to this part of Orlando but heard of this place through my uncle (who loves Mediterranean food) so I thought if it's good for him, let me try it out. I was not dissatisfied, the tabouli was perfectly seasoned and you can taste the lemon and mint, and the grape leaves were hot and went well with the sauce. The gyro was about average but when you have it with the falafel, your taste buds will be thanking you. The service was quick too, I had three orders in front of me and it only took roughly 10 minutes for my order to come out. The only downside is parking in the plaza is limited. Well this place deserves their 4 stars (given by me) to be bumped to 5. My only complaint (on the past) was that their restroom was nasty and had a speaker blasting some very loud music. I just uploaded a video of their restroom and as you can see it is VERY clean and not blasting music. Additionally, Food is still great! I Always have the greek salad with chicken and my fiancée has the greek salad with gyro. Finally, we always ask for the avocado hummus with pita bread which is delicious and definitely a must. read more

I usually go to Olympia or brave the traffic and go to Greek Flame on restaurant row. I decided to try something closer to home. I had heard great things about this place. The problem was that the gyro I ordered was very small and they didn't give much French Fries on the side. I am accustomed to much larger portions. I decided to try this place again.. The second time the portions were once again small. But in addition the gyro meat was served cold. Some pieces were warm, but it was mixed in temperature. I have never come across these issues at any other restaurant of this type. It made me sad because the location is so perfect. The people there are always friendly. Perhaps with some kind feedback they will make some improvements. But I doubt I will ever return here. read more

Used Avalon pockets to cater a small birthday party. The owner took the time to call me back after i had called in one morning and had me come in and sat with me to go over what I wanted. He packaged everything separately for me just like I wanted. Even was very accommodating when I added last minute items to the order a few hours before the party. The food was super tasty. Initially I was going to use little greek until someone told me about avalon pockets and I am so glad they did because not only did I save money but the food truly felt authentic and the attention the owner gave to all my requests was superb! Do yourself a favor: Get some fries and dip them in their house-made ketchup. All ketchup needs to taste like this. Oh my goodness. Edit: New owners and they don't do the special ketchup anymore. Instead of using white chickpeas that I am used to, they used green chickpeas which it seemed bitter. I will not be ordering Falafel sandwiches again from Avalon Pockets. I wouldn't say they were as authentic as I would prefer but hands down, this was the best falafel and gyro plates I've had in a fast food setting. 5 of us ate for around $60 including tip. I've passes by this spot multiple times, I finally took a chance and I don't regret it one bit. I'm from New York, the soul of all good foods and a Mediterranean spot was on the top of my list. There's one other competitor on Avalon park that serves the same food, lighter and it costs a little more. I got a Chicken souvlakian sandwich with fries, a soda. The platter comes with chicken, onions, a special white sauce that I can't spell, lettuce tomato on a pita bread. I thought "wow this is exactly like New York" but when I tasted it, it was actually a lot better. They offer delivery by postmasters and a dine in and take out option during this pandemic. Haven't been back here in several years. Wow this place is five star all the way. Bowl of lentil soup tasty and creamy. I will get it again and again. Another hit is the Meza sampler. Got it with the pita bread which was nice and fresh and ordered some tahini with it which was tasty and creamy. The stuffed grape leafs were excellent. Comes with a little salad which was fine but I could do without the pita chips in it which I picked out. Also asked for some their spicy picked with it I would have preferred the purple turnips like some other folks have The gyro wrap was among the best. First of all they use real meat not the processed stuff other restaurants use. And it pairs well with the pita bread, onions and tzatziki which is nice and thick and creamy. Baklava also the best around. It comes in a container that says made by hand. Made with love. And I believe it. Very moist and filled with nuts and honey. Not dried out. Went here for the Kids Eat Free on Wednesdays. The staff were very helpful, courteous and just plain friendly. We ordered the Gyro's, along with the house fries. The Gyro's were messy, which is a great sign. Lots of meat, perfectly seasoned. The house fries were good, though a bit too salty at times. A lil treasure. This truly is a mom and pop place. But it's in a very nice area in Avalon Park where I live. A simple in and out shop, but the quality of the food is top notch. Everything is homemade and using family recipes from the middle east. The owner Mamdu is from Egypt originally, but lived in NYC for decades. He is a really nice and hospitable man and you can tell right away he cares about his customers the way he interacts with them. And he was a former EPA agent, so you know the food is fresh and clean! The falafel is amazing. By far the best ive ever had and I have been around the world including the middle east. My clients from Iran and Iraq who visit me, I took them here and they were surprised how authentic the food was and they agreed with me, pretty badass falafel! I also enjoy the kabobs and kuftas, the rice is perfect, and you can always depend on the gyros. I made a suggesstion to Mamdu to get better filtered water for his machines. he didn't get upset or anything, he took suggesstion seriously, and the next week I came in he remembered me right away and told me he already contacted his distributor to improve the water. The kefta (spiced ground beef) is exactly like my friend's mom used to make and I honestly haven't found one that even comes close to that in any of the Mediterranean places I've eaten at in Orlando. The man at the counter reluctantly accepted the Yelp check-in offer off a free soft drink. Avalon Pockets changed ownership this past year and for the better. The owner could not be a nicer guy. He is super friendly, and has an absolutely uncanny memory. He remembers our family, what we like to eat, the sports our daughter plays. It's really amazing! On more than one occasion we've walked in right before closing, not realizing that we were doing so, and he would make sure he took care of us. So when it comes to service I don't think you'll find better in Avalon Park. Now as for the food, really great stuff! The Pita Chips and Hummus are fantastic! We often will stop in just to get a snack of those. The gyros and kabobs are just as good. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the portions are quite large. Very expensive for mediocre food. I wanted to give the neighborhood restaurant a try so I did. I received a gryo, small fry, and small drink for $15. If I would've known how much it was prior I would've drove somewhere else and got more for less than $10. Btw the lemonade is very tart, might wanna bring your own sugar. read more

Avalon pockets is a good place to grab a sandwich or quick meal. Their food options are traditional Mediterranean, so don't plan on getting potato salad on your Greek salad. The food options are ample with many meat and vegetarians options. We have had difficulty with getting our kids to enjoy much of anything but the fries (due to their perception), but the staff is very understanding (allowing us to bring in subway from next door to accommodate one of our picky eaters). Speaking of the fries, they are a nice treat--they are steak cut fries with seasoning. At lunch, combos including fries and a drink are very reasonably priced and are a good value. Additionally, if I recall correctly, there is a halal sticker on the front window. read more

My visit was about a month back. I remember braving 45 minutes of traffic to get here, but I won't blame it on 'em :) Just a run-of-the-mill Greek/Arabic/Mediterranean spot, a bit small inside. The guy manning the cash register was friendly. I got the falafel wrap with a side of tabbouleh and my girlfriend got the gyro and fries combo. I liked my meal. The falafel was tasty with a nice crunch. My tabbouleh was a bit on the acidic side...I don't know if that's typical for all tabbouleh but I enjoyed it nonetheless. My gf's gyro, however, was a bit unsatisfying. The gyro itself was smaller than we're used to having and we both thought it tasted bland. The fries were pretty forgettable. We stopped by Avalon Pocket last night and ordered a few things to go. Unfortunately I was not very hungry due to a weekend of stuffing myself with junkfood, so I really only nibbled at a few things. However! My scant nibbles proved to be exceptionally tasty. The fried pita chips were crisp on the outside, yet soft on the inside, Fresh, delicately seasoned and not terribly greasy. If I hadn't already been enormously full I could have easily inhaled a large portion of them. And they are definitely large portions; one order of chips and hummus is enough for 2-3 people. Speaking of hummus, I did sample the avocado hummus, which was really delicious. You'd think the addition of fatty, creamy avocado might make this a little too rich, or over the top, but it still tasted light and fresh and delicious. My dining companions ordered gyros and falafel sandwiches which all summarily disappeared down everyone's gullets. I can only surmise they must enjoyed them immensely. The only complaint was that someone did not like banana peppers and "other pickled, vinegary crap" on his sandwich...but I think he probably forgot to ask them to leave it off, so I do not think that was the restaurant's fault. They have a really, really wonderful soup that sits out in a cauldron in front of the counter; they leave little cups and spoons out so that one might sample it, if one is so inclined. And we were. And it was so amazing that we ordered 2 big containers of it to bring home with us the next day. I may be mistaken, but I think it is a soup-y form of koshari/y, which I believe to be an Egyptian street food full of chick peas, lentils, macaroni, tomatoes and lots of wonderful spices. They serve it with a tangy house made hot-sauce that really just elevates what is already a fantastic dish to an entirely new level. I highly, highly recommend it. The waitstaff was friendly (VERY friendly), the establishment looked clean, and yes, as one other reviewer mentioned, there is some interesting, albeit rather confusing wall-art. I don't mean it at all unkindly when I note that one in particular looks like a sort of demented Georgia O'Keefe/Clive Barker collaboration. I rather like unusual art. That piece really spoke to me. (I think it was saying "KILL KILL KILL. Just kidding. Maybe). I like to think that the talented soul behind the soup is the very same creative mind behind the wall-art. I will definitely be back on an emptier stomach to give the rest of the menu items a try! read more
