She answered all my emails promptly and was most helpful. Our problem began when the bus arrived and I was told by the driver that when he arrive to pick up the bus he was assigned he was told there was a bus change and he was to take the "older" bus instead of one of the 2 newer buses, one of which was assigned to us. I was later told in an email by Jackie that our bus had been checked out and it was ready to go. She also let me know she was told we were assigned one of the newer buses. I had asked in advance to please be sure the DVD player was working and in good condition for our two 7-8 hour trips (to and from) and was told by Jackie it was working great and that she had gone down to the mechanic and was told it was in great working order! Of course, that was on the newer bus we were supposed to have been on. Mind you, we had 52 9th graders on the bus WITHOUT any digital devises. The DVD player was to be our help and saving grace for the 7-8 hour trip. And yes, the DVD player did not work. After 4 hours on the road and two calls and 1 email we were told we needed to purchase a battery for the remote and that could be the problem. After two extra stops we were able to purchase a battery and the DVD finally began working. Our biggest problem was not the DVD player, it was the fact that the A/C did not work properly. Inside the bus the temperature remained between 90-95 degrees. Basically, we sat and sweated the entire drive. This too was relayed back to the main office and two times the mechanics called and had the drive try something to fix it. We were told by the driver he did everything they asked and it was still the same temperature. I had asked via email and via a phone call, if our driver could take the bus to some place while we were in Long Beach and was ignored. The driver had from 8:30am on Friday when he dropped us off until 12:30pm on Sunday to have the A/C repaired. When the "GM" emailed me on Monday, I was told they were aware of the problem and they need to review for the future not to let the older buses be used in the hot months. Unfortunately, it was not a priority for the Tour West America to have this done for us but instead thought it was better to email me and let me know how sorry they were and that they would give us an additional 10% off our cost. Of which, I turned down stating that it was not sufficient for what we were put through. I was then told in yet another email that they would give us 20% off AND if we booked next year's bus rental with them (another $4K) they would guarantee us a newer bus. Yep! I get it. Pay the almost $4K this year for a bus with virtually no A/C, book again next year with them and agree to pay the $4K again and we will be sure to get you the newer bus you should have had this year - count me in... said no one! In my one last attempt to help them understand what it was like, I gave the word picture of working while sitting in a car with the air on but never cooling the car more than 90 degrees and having to do that for 2 days. And then having the boss tell you, there is no compensation for that treatment but if you stay working for the company another year they will guarantee you a office where the A/C will work fine. I take it they are so busy something like this is not that important. Please do not use Tour West America for your bus rental. It is just not worth it.
