As is my wont to do and MO, if there is a door slightly open or ajar of an interesting or historical looking place, I will go in like I belong. I have never been shot nor hardly ever told to leave. I have wandered into Courtyards, sacred sites in Old Jerusalem and all kinds of buildings that I'm not supposed to go into. Tonight I was invited to my old twin friends birthday party at the Lemon Grove at the Astor Hotel rooftop and I was a tad early. As I crossed the street there was a metal stanchion blocking most of the entrance to the Avalon Club with one door open. I wandered in and people were milling about setting up for an Emo night with the band called Waiting For April. I had seen this club change over the years but I had no idea it was still operating and it's a beauty with tremendous history and cavernous rooms with bars and side rooms. I wandered around and upstairs I found a merch table and a drum kit with guitars and some guys warming up. I started talking to them and it turns out that is the headlining band. We talked music and the struggles of a young band, I gave them some insight from my experience, they gave me their CD which is quite nice and I proceeded to check out the historic place. I wandered through every part of the club while the band was doing sound check including the Bardot room and unlike many clubs, you really feel the history here in the design and architecture of this historic venue. Here is the fascinating history: The Avalon Hollywood (also known simply as Avalon) at 1735 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, California, near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street (across from the Capitol Records Building) was built in the Spanish Baroque (Churrigueresque) style by architects Henry L. Gogerty and Carl Jules Weyl, with decoration by Steffan Horbaczek, it has operated continuously as a live performance space since opening--never as a movie theater. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 as part of the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment Historic District. It started as the Hollywood Playhouse (1927-1930s). In 1942, the theater was purchased (reportedly for around $105,000) and renamed the El Capitan Theatre (distinct from the more famous one on Hollywood Boulevard). NBC acquired or leased the building in the early 1950s and converted it into a television studio. In 1963, ABC invested heavily (around $400,000) in renovations--including extending the stage, adding camera equipment, control booths, and other TV infrastructure--and briefly renamed it the Jerry Lewis Theatre for Jerry Lewis's short-lived (13-week) ABC variety series. It emphasizes electronic dance music (EDM), DJ sets, and live performances, with upstairs space later becoming Bardot, an intimate lounge/restaurant/club opened around 2008. Notable modern acts have included Tiësto, Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, Eric Prydz, Armin van Buuren, Kaskade, and many others in the EDM scene. It has also hosted award shows, benefits, screenings, political fundraisers, and private events. Last night at Avalon Hollywood was something I'll never forget.This wasn't just a night out--it was a celebration of life for Reza Gerami, our DJ Reza. Special thanks to Pascual from Insomniac for putting together such a beautiful and unforgettable tribute. You could feel the love the moment you walked in. There were memorial wreaths everywhere, life-size cutouts of Reza, and so many thoughtful details that made the night feel personal. They had specialty cotton candy and cookies printed with Reza's photo and Go Venture logos, plus Go Venture hats where you could even airbrush your name on them. It was creative, heartfelt, and so him. The night was filled with incredible moments--hors d'oeuvres, a dove release, free Persian food all night, and an open bar. But more than anything, it was the people. Over a thousand friends and family, all connected through the old-school underground rave scene, coming together in unity. It was powerful. Reza was always about peace, love, and bringing people together--and that's exactly what this night represented. A true promoter in every sense of the word. He created something real in this world, and the underground will always recognize that.It was emotional in a way that's hard to put into words. Tonight I had one of the best club experience. We arrived early to secure a spot on the upper balcony. Fortunately, we were able to secure the most premium location overlooking the main stage. Our bartender, Alyssa ran an efficient bar. Her barbacks, specifically Fernando went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible. They had some of the best customer service I could ever request. We also orderd food from the kitchen. Those French fried came out crispy and with the requested ranch and kachup. Although we're at a night club where it can be difficult to communicate. Alyssa was the standard for what you expect from a bartender. I can't express enough about the hospitality that my group of friends experienced tonight, and Alyssa and her crew essential. WOW! I haven't been to Avalon since my late teens, early twenties. Came out to support DJ Morgan Page and the event went well. Inside, the venue is spacious and there are two bars located on each dance floor/stage. Drinks are on the price side here, so it is always best to pre-game if you can. My old fashioned with rye was $19 in a small cup. Lots of people came out to support and enjoy awesome EDM music. Great sound system at the main stage and loud music overall with great vibes! The lights and graphics were awesome as well. This place even offers after parties, so you can party all night long until the sun rises. Restrooms are clean and tidy and have plenty of space. Super solid venue, especially for an EDM event. I really love the third floor where we can freely lounge and sit on the cushioned seats!!! Had a great time dancing and enjoying the music. The speakers system was great from all levels. The view of the stage is also very great and if you're up close to the very front, just know that the stage is up high so you can't clearly see without looking up. What an absolute gem!!! I can't believe I haven't been here before but I am so glad I was able to visit! The decor is just gorgeous, it very much give a Gatsby vibe. The club is 2 floors and contrary to most clubs in LA the 2nd floor is open to all, not just VIP. There is a large amount of comfortable seating in the upper level and it was a great place to rest mid show! The show I was at was big on lasers and I will say no matter where you were those were a bit blinding, not sure if that is how the venue setup is or if that was how the performers had it set. Love Avalon. We have never had a bad experience here. It's great that there is seating for everyone. Every club should be like this and love the views from upstairs with the lighting. As far as clubs go in Los Angeles and Hollywood area this one is not too bad. Now I will say I have only been to this club for Emo Nite which is a monthly event that is held at Avalon that plays Emo music and Emo remixes. I've probably been to about 5 Emo nites but some people try to go monthly as it is a fun event and brings all the Emo together. As far as the club the security is pretty typical. You make line on the side. The earlier you show up the shorter the line will be and less of a wait to get in there will be. They check your ID as it's 21 plus and you go through a metal detector. As long as there is no problems it's a pretty simple process. Once you walk in past the doors there is a bar outside the main club space and if you walk more inside you are inside the actual main club and there is a long bar right on the sides also. Most of the downstairs back area is tables and you won't be able to access those unless you have bottle service. The main dance floor is a decent size but does fill up pretty fast. For Emo Nite events they do typically sell out and once the show starts it can get pretty hot and crammed. Some people don't mind but if you are with people who maybe want a little more space and breathing room I would recommend to head up stair. For Emo Nite they open up the Bardot room and usually have a few bands and other artist performing and have another Dj up there. There are also multiple bars up there too so if it seems to be a long wait downstairs upstairs may be your next best option. If you want to see the main stage from upstairs there are also stadium type seats that are padded upstairs and they are all general admission. There are some tables in the very front but I have not seen them used very often and for the most part you can get lucky and stand right there in the front so it's a perfect spot to see all the action on the main stage but have space to yourself. Overall I don't mind this venue for Emo Nite. I have not been here for other events and I do see they have big name artist come but as mentioned it does get really packed downstairs for Emo Nite so I can just imagine how packed it gets when they have a big DJ perform here. read more

PROS - solid sound system - quality and fun Insomniac events (in addition to DJ events, there's a ton of themed events like Reggaeton, K-Pop, etc) - really cool architecture - well ventilated - safe area in Hollywood CONS - main floor only (gets crowded and may be hard to see if you're not tall) - busy bars - Hollywood crowd can get rowdy (common for any tourist areas) - far parking (1-2 blocks walking distance but starts at $10) Nightlife in Hollywood can be tricky, but places like Avalon, make it fun and safe, will definitely be coming back and highly recommend. read more

Several guests reported that their gift bags were stolen. Gift bags for our charity fundraiser which were placed on the seats for each table. Also note that after you pay your full bill of over $42,000 - if they decide they don't like you - they will purposely send you any additional payment owed for added dinners the late morning on the day of your event - just so they can say you "had an issue paying your bill." Disgusting. They will threaten to kick you out.**** If you're looking to rent this venue for any kind of event, shoot, etc. think twice before booking Avalon Hollywood. In fact, turn right around and run in the opposite direction. This place is held together with nothing more than a glue stick, if that. Half of the screens are not functioning inside and out - they demand payment, yet they don't spend the money to fix equipment or see to small changes that could make a big difference for clients. Imagine renting a venue and you bring up the issue of duck tape covering holes on the "VIP" booths or the gum embedded into the floors / tape on the walls - only for the sensitive "event director" to turn around and insult you. Imagine paying what was 100% of the bill already and having to simply add a few extra dinners added for your event after the payment fact; only to have the "event director" final invoice you in the late morning - day of your show and demand payment or no doors open for a charity event. Note that we're a repeat customer and they still insisted we "pay now" when we were literally loading in with no time on our hands; they knew very well that we didn't have time to go make a transfer. This was clearly done on purpose due to simply having an issue with us. Absolutely, I was frustrated and I showed it. Imagine a venue that you rented for a fundraising production for an animal charity - and the "event director" insults you to your face in front of your incredible team who has worked for you for over a decade; who were all appalled. In fact, my teleprompter crew and stage manager heard everything and they described it as extreme gaslighting towards a paying client. They have no class or etiquette whatsoever and they certainly do not know the pressure of live event production when you're working with superstars. We took our production elsewhere for a couple of years and it was a breath of fresh air working with real customer service at another venue. However, we returned to Avalon Hollywood for the "impressive" screen setup - only to find out that their upgrade was nonexistent. The stage manager and production staff are great, the office - not so much - they're flustered 100% of the time. Not only do I work tirelessly to produce two major award shows a year for the deserving artist behind the stars, but we fundraise for our animal charity partners, I created a fresh closet clothing drive for 40+ families I know impacted by the LA wildfires, I've been running live coverage production with and for LA Marathon for 4+ years; my community would certainly not stand to hear the terrible insults and unprofessional attitude I witnessed during the day of my show from Avalon Hollywood's more than bland staff. Perhaps they could benefit from a few classes in customer service; after all, they do work in "Hospitality." I could go on, but let me end with this: Even worse is the parking lot next door. You'll pay Avalon Hollywood directly for parking passes and the lot won't even honor them. You'll show the pass that you were told to print out and.... the lot will ask you to pay $30 one hour or $50 another. You get the picture. read more

I like Avalon because of the space. It's not like Academy or Exchange with overcrowded dance floors, which I find so annoying. I hope Avalon continues to respect their max capacity. Besides the huge dance floor, there is an upstairs balcony with wide bench seating. It's a place to cool down, but you can't smoke up there. The girls restroom is on one side, and the guys restroom is on the other side. There's a bar in the back lounge area; there are smaller bars on either side of the front dance floor. I like going to the back because there is more room and usually you can get your drink faster. Parking - Hollywood has some street parking spots. There is a lot nearby that attracts Avalon or Pantages patrons, but it can be $20-40. I would Uber. Even if you get dropped off on the other side of the street, there is a crosswalk that makes it safer. Music - It really depends on the night. I usually come here when they are hosting events. They've had events like Emo Nite, Netflix is a Joke, Taylor rave, Bollywood etc. They've had top DJs like Kaskade, Mitis, Nurko, etc. Tickets - Def buy tickets ahead if you want to go. If they happen to sell out, I think you can buy at the door (credit cards are accepted), but it'll be marked way higher. read more

I've been here twice to see some trance DJs and they did not disappoint. The vibe among the crowd tends to be really good. I am not young. I am 46 and do not seem to feel out a place in this crowd. It's a good mix of people with young and old. This may be dependent on the DJs that I am seeing, since they were older DJs. The drinks are pricey and that's to be expected. The bathrooms were accessible, even as the evening got late. I would definitely recommend this club, as I drive all the way from Orange County to dance here. My wife and I have been here multiple times and it's always been good vibe. Entering was quick and organized, never had any issues. They've had a lot of "themed" raves which I think was a nice experience. Hopefully that's not completely taken away with the partnership with Insomniac. Concert review: This place is very pretty- sorta like century gothic vibes? They have an accessible balcony which is small. The dance floor has space but not for like throw it down, just fyi there are a few stairs leading down. There's a lobby area with a few tables/seats and they even sell food for 12-15. The bathrooms can have a bit of a line, but they stay clean. There are signs everywhere about pickpocketers tho haha. Air flow wise was good, but there wasn't much effects, feel like it was easy to get to the front. There wasn't anything dangerous, but it might've been the vibe of the concert. Music wise, acoustically it was solid ( live show). They did kick people out by the time the show ended, but there was also music continuing to play in the club and a few people going in after which was weird. Drinks were average price around 15, I don't recommend an amf as one of the alcohols in it was just super cheap, but the sunset looking one, lemonade, and pineapple tequila were all good. The only other caveat was parking was $30 and it was quite hard to find spots despite having 2 lots. Interestingly enough u can see the sidewalk stars lol. I was at Avalon for an event. Parking can be tough, but that is for anyplace in this area, so it's to be expected and no distraction from a great night. The venue is spectacular. From the outside, low expectations are set. Walking in, one finds a beautiful space that felt clean and maintained. Considering the parties that go on here, and I've been at some, having a clean and maintained feel is a real accomplishment. Kudos to the cleanup crew! The light and audio was top notch and the food good. The buffet style we had was done well, with dishes kept up, so lines were moving ok. I enjoyed the layout a lot, with defined areas, instead of one large space. Check out nice seating upgrades, such as balcony and booth options. Seating was not too crowded; however, I removed a star due to where we sat. Our table was close to the bar and the bartender, and other staff, would talk so loud and long that we couldn't hear the speakers. We hoped it was just a drink order, but no. The conversations were long and loud, and honestly, not very interesting. Even during a solemn presentation, we had the background noise of a conversation. A couple of times they were asked to talk at the other end of the bar, but the banter would end up back to the end closest to the tables and our ears. I think for a party, or concert, this place is amazing. But for an event that has presentations and speakers, unless the bar is moved to the front room and away from seating areas, or staff is reminded and trained to be aware of how their conversations are heard, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I was here for a live music event, specifically for BM KARD first solo tour for AFTER THE AFTER party show. It's walking distance to the metro station, there was plenty of parking. The security was attentive and no one looked concerned if their car would get hacked or stolen. I am from the sf bay area and that is always the number concern when I go to concerts. No one looked concerned and managers informed the crowd if someone parked their car in the wrong spot. It's easy to get an uber from the venue. There is food offered at the bar if you ask. There is no water fountain. You have to pay for the bottled water. Pros The led screens wrapped around the entire building. It created really cool and unique visuals for the show. There is disabled and handicap areas for people who cannot stand long periods of time. There were booths to lounge in the back if you wish to sit. The alcohol was good and reasonable priced. Cons I am only giving this place a 4 because there is no bag check while entering the venue. I personally find that a concern. There is no Marque for ongoing events in the area like the concert I attended. The venue did get hot and sweaty since I attended a sold out show. HOWEVER, I do like there is another bar and lounge area upstairs for intimate and smaller parties. The drinks got alot stronger compared to the main event. Overall, this was the perfect venue for the first 21+ kpop event in North America. I wish more music acts performed in the venue. read more

THIS VENUE IS SO BEAUTIFUL I came here for the LA AleXa meet and Greet in the US on October 30th! The staff was so nice, bathrooms were SPOTLESS and my jaw DROPPED when I saw how close we were to the stage ! (Even with safety procautions!) The only issue about this location is that there's no actually accessable area to park and that when waiting in line, in cuts into the parking lot next to it, but besides that, this is an awesome venue! read more

Gosh, it feels like I've been out of the clubbing scene a couple of lifetimes ago! Seriously! Haha. But NYE has always been an exception, or should I say an excuse to go, especially if something exciting is going on. I don't mind paying extra to avoid standing in lines, I rather skip the people watching, outside publicity, marketing part for the club by paying extra to party earlier. That was exactly what happened. We bought our tickets online. Easy, no stress, and just do it. However, ticket prices kept on increasing by the day as NYE nears. So you all better all make up your minds sooner, and don't be dumb like us, buying at the last minute. Avalon Hollywood was a place to go during my younger days. My friends and I would go, drink, party, meet new people, drink some more, all until the club closes at 4am. I really don't know how I did all nighters. So crazy! But I must admit the Avalon is a very popular place with lots of events going on every week. Great sound system, and the DJs who performs there are commonly well known internationally. Yes, I'm kinda into EDM electronic stuff. Why? It brings good energy and good vibes, in my perspective. The club is popular, but doesn't seem to be as busy like before. Maybe because Los Angeles has too many events going on nowadays. But, it doesn't matter to me. I only want to have fun! Drinks are not cheap. I'd say about $15 for a mixed drink that does not tickle my fancy. Would I go back? Yes, if there's a good DJ in town. Don't have high expectations, and don't mind the drunk-tards. I went here for an EDM concert on a Saturday night. And this place is a really big venue! There's two parts to this venue. The upstairs has brighter lights and seems to be more of a lounge/bar area. There was a DJ there with a small dance area and some benches. Downstairs had a much bigger area with plenty of dancing space and a large stage for a DJ to play music. It's a lot darker there with fun lights. The drinks were okay. They are overly expensive per usual. Cool place though! read more

4/28/23 4/29/22 false advertisement Purchased a Rauw Alejandro after party Fri, Apr 28th, 2023 at 10:00 PM - Sat, Apr 29th, 2023 at 3:00 AM we left the concert at 12:30 am and got to this club at 1am we were rejected from going in because they stated they were gonna be closing soon. The ad said it would be over at 3am and we all notified them of this. Also a lot more people were coming from the concert and were running into our same issue. The front guy was very rude and didn't want to let us in we said that it was ok and asked if we could have our money back since we weren't being allowed the one hour we paid for. Had a wonderful experience here! I attended a KO Boxing event! I had never heard of this venue before attending this event, and I was pleasantly surprised with the interior of the building. It appears as though this use to be a club of some sort or maybe they've had other types of events here. There are balcony seats so it looks like it's potentially a theater or they've had theater productions here as well. The event was wonderful it made me feel like I was in Las Vegas at an actual fight you might see on TV. The seating was great and I did not feel crowded. The couches that we sat on in the balcony were spacious. There were numerous places for you to get drinks if you wanted to partake in that. I just hated that I had to pay $20 parking in the lot next-door but it was worth it for the night. I'm not sure what other events they have here but I would be interested in seeing what types of other events are held here so that I can come back for another entertaining experience. read more

LOVEEEE avalon!! It's so fun and so much space to dance and sit down. The drinks are always well made and the staff is always super friendly. Of course there's always annoying men but they can't do much about that lol My boyfriend and I went Halloweekend and we got in for FREE and were able to stay in upper area on a little couch next a bar. I loved it. Also the DJ was amazing!! He played bangers after bangers. 10/10 Will be going again read more
