We've been here a few times over the last couple months because we were in the process of adopting two parrots and the news that there's a local bird store was exciting! We were not disappointed! The owner works very hard to keep her birds happy and healthy and seems to closely screen people who want to buy a bird from her (this is a very good thing - lots of people get birds without realizing the work that goes into them). She also keeps healthy, delicious bird food in stock; stuff you never see anywhere like PetCo. We've only had to order one kind of food online since finding this place. The toy selection is excellent as well. Lots of safe, fun bird toys for sizes from budgies all the way to large macaws. Fun things to chew, shred, and general be a bird with. We love this place and will be visiting often. read more

I've worked professionally with birds for over 20 years. During that time I have met several Avalon Aviary birds. They have always been the most social, well-adjusted birds I've ever met. So when my child was adamant that he wanted his own bird, I decided to check them out. Their store is not close to my home so I hit them up through messenger before making the trip. They answered my questions and were very helpful in their exchanges with me. Based on that we decided to proceed with a trip to their store. It was my first time in the store and I was very impressed. They are taking bio security precautions due to the avian flu which immediately earns my respect. When you walk in you are asked to step in a foot bath and use hand sanitizer before proceeding further Into the store. The store itself is clean and the birds all look well cared for. They do a little bit of rescue which unfortunately is much needed. There is a little room set up for you to visit with birds you are considering for adoption or purchase and that was comfy & clean as well. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they sell some fabulous looking fresh bird food that they have prepared. I would not hesitate to recommend Avalon Aviary to anyone looking for a bird or bird supplies. They are well respected in this industry and my personal experience confirms that this is for good reason. read more

The proof is in the birds, they are healthy, clean and happy. That doesn't happen by accident. The people running this store care a great deal about birds and sharing them with their clientele. I have learned quite a lot since they became my bird store. They have invited me back to see and hold the baby birds while explaining to me what type of bird it is and their background, these folks have such a passion for birds and it shows. They own several themselves and will be glad to share photos with you. Their knowledge of birds is astounding, my bird recently hurt herself and they were the first people I called. We had recently moved and were in between vets, not only did they recommend a terrific vet at Aspenwing, she also told me what was likely the issue and calmed me down. It is so nice to know they are there, they are experienced and they care. They carry a good variety of food and a lot of great toys at reasonable prices too. If you are looking for your next bird or just need a bag of food, I would High recommend you check out this store, see for yourself how happy and healthy the birds are and make your own call. This is a great place! The owner and her staff do an incredible job rearing their birds--hand fed, fed frequently, always make sure the birds are warm in the cold Colorado winters. The birds are clearly well taken care of--they aren't afraid of hands or humans and warm to strangers pretty easily. We had the pleasure of handling a few of their baby eclectuses while Maya, the store macaw, danced around in the main space. The store also has plenty of supplies. What you need, I'm pretty sure they have it. When we visited, there were many birds being boarded for the holidays. They all seemed very happy and well taken care of. The good: great birds, happy and helpful staff, great supply. The bad: watch your eyes--the sun slices in through the west-facing windows and will blind you. :) read more

Walked in to find some toys for my budgies and also wanted to see if they had any advice on how to handle a territorial female budgie, one lady working at the front said "I'm going to leave" and the other just shook her head and offered not much help. I felt shamed and very unwelcome, and I ended up leaving while the lady working at the front just kept shaking her head. Don't think I'll be going back. read more

The lady at this store was a extremely rude to me and my children when we asked her what bird would be good for my children. My child was looking at a few bird toys and she rudely told me to make him put it back. I can't believe how horrible she was. I will never go Back to this place. read more

In July of 2015, I signed a contract for a Greenwing Macaw, and paid a $1200 up-front deposit. The breeder offered very little response or communication after that. Fearing that they were undergoing some kind of personal or health issue (which might also have affected the care of the bird), I did not press for more information or a refund. After over a year, the breeder admitted that they had in fact been been undergoing many big changes, and that she had "lost" my contact information! She offered to send the bird, no longer a baby, but over a year old. I did not pay a premium for an adult bird that had been raised in a vacuum without contact or proof of adequate care. The breeder, having admitted personal issues, and having admitted to "losing" my contact information, is now blaming me for this situation, and does not appear to be open to refunding my deposit or delivering a baby bird, as promised. I selected this breeder because they have a good reputation, and from what I can tell, they take good care of their birds. It's true that I may be a one-off; I may have fallen through the cracks somehow, but a business that does not take responsibility for their mistakes is not a business that anybody should deal with! read more

If you are thinking of adding an Avian member to your family, I highly recommend Avalon Aviary. Let me share with you why: We had considered different options when deciding to adopt a bird. Which type of bird? Do we rescue? Should we adopt a baby? Lifespan vs our age, bird size..... Etc. The description of Red Bellied Parrot seemed to fit our family well. We called some breeders we found on the net, and were surprised how they differed from each other. For example: Some didn't ask any questions, they were just concerned about taking payment. Some separates the babies from the parents very early and wanted to sell them as soon as 9 weeks. We were starting to get discouraged. We wanted to adopt from someone that cared about the bird and the right match for our family. The next call was to Avalon Aviary - and thank goodness we did! Susanne Cochran and her staff listened to our concerns and answered any questions, and agreed about our suggestion of a Red Belly. During our interview, it was obvious that she cares about her babies and wants to do her part in fitting the right bird/species in a forever loving home. As soon as I saw the pictures of a Red Bellied little girl..... I was smitten. Arrangements were made for her to come to our home. I was nervous. I peeped inside her travel carrier, and was met eye to eye. Yep, right then my heart melted. It is literally like bringing a new baby home. We named her Minerva. Susanne had given us detailed instructions on how to introduce her to her new home. She said to let Minerva come out of her carrier on her own, and when she turns and look at you, bend down and ask her to step up. That is exactly how it happened. Her first step-up was flawless. Minerva's first trip to Dr. Bolt went wonderfully. She wasn't stressed, she allowed him to put her in a towel for her exam. Susanne had told me Minerva was towel trained, but I had forgotten. Dr. Bolt was pleasantly surprised by Minerva's manners. He said Susanne and her staff must have spent a lot of time with her - socializing her and doing some great training. Of course, Minerva has a clean bill of health! If you decide to find your Avian family member at Avalon Aviary, ask them about putting together a care package (toys, food, treats, etc.) it is well worth the extra cost! We are so pleased with Minerva.... And we love her! Thank you Avalon Aviary for such a wonderful experience and for our sweet girl Minerva! read more

Brought in an old parrot cage to ask if they would buy it from me. They looked at it and offered me a good price for it. After helping me unload it from my car and bringing it into the store, they told me they would only offer me half as much or I could load it back into my car myself. These people are rude and dishonest. Two thumbs down. read more
