I am fortunate my parents live nearby so I can make visits as needed, and they are always understanding and flexible in accommodating my schedule, even working with me remotely to program my digital hearing aids. I have a congenital bilateral severe-profound hearing loss, profound on the left, where I am eligible for a cochlear implant. Yet I have always done so well with hearing aids, thanks to their skill programming them to fit my needs, an implant is deemed unnecessary. This is a true testament to their skill. I was mainstreamed in public schools with assistive devices and went on to obtain a master's degree and now work as the staff biologist for a national program in the USDA. I cannot thank founder Marcia Dean and current audiologist Todd Sauter enough for their help along the way, I owe my success to their hard work. For the first time in two years, I am able to get out of a chair without using my arms, put on my own socks, and take full steps going up and down stairs. It is like a miracle.
