AV repair was recommended by a friend 10 years ago. I needed a broken sideview mirror replaced (I had the replacement part). After installing the new mirror, Jim, the owner wouldn't accept payment. He said "no problem, it was a small job and was happy to help." Wow! Since then, We've brought all of our family cars to AV Repair for body and drive train maintenance, and have always been satisfied with the quality, speed of service and prices. I brought my car here to inspect a low air pressure in my tire. Jim told me that it was time I replace all 4. I brought it back on a Friday afternoon to get new tires. I paid early, upfront 792 dollars for the replacements. I picked up my car later that night and knew something felt off. Thank god I made it across the busy rode to my parking garage when the front left tire flew off of my car causing significant damage to the front of my car to the point I could not open my drivers side door. Not to mention how shaken up I was after the incident. I was VERY lucky I didn't hurt myself or someone else. If I had kept driving down 114 or my tire didn't hold on as long, this would have been a serious accident. After a nightmare of trying to get my car towed, I returned it to the shop and spoke with Jim who said he would fix it. The next morning I was told my car would be repaired and my back brakes would be replaced for free for the inconvenience- not at my request. I did not want my back brakes replaced. He was not able to get me a rental car due to "high demand." I was told that the workers were rushed that afternoon and distracted- they forgot to tighten the lug nuts... I expressed my frustration about how I deserved a bit more compensation for not having a car for over 4 days, the damage my car had been put through as well as the severity of the mistake. I was met with condescending remarks such as "what could have happened and what happened are two different things," "you're making a mountain out of a mole hill" and "I'll put your old tires back on if that's what you want." You would think a business owner whose negligent mistake could have seriously injured or killed someone would have a bit more pride and respect than that. I felt incredibly belittled and downplayed. Ironic how their website lists the word "integrity"... He even refused to cover my Uber expenses over the weekend and told me he would only cover the trips to and from work even though I had other plans I needed my car for. Not once did he ask to meet me in person, sincerely apologize, or ask for photos. He only seemed to care about himself and not the customer. He bulldozed over my concerns and was incredibly defensive. In the end he refused to pay for my transportation over the weekend. I only got my money back because he agreed to put my old tires back on and take back the new ones. His insurance will now take care of the rest of the damages and transportation fees. Needless to say, I will never be back to this shop. It was a complete headache and waste of my time. Hopefully this accident does not cause further issues for my car. I encourage anyone who contemplates using AV repair to please not jeopardize their safety. There are many other trustworthy mechanics out there who will keep you safe and not treat their customers this way! Safety is not their priority at the business. This was a significant mistake that I hope does not happen to anyone else. read more

Well he did see this review and called me to remedy the situation. Well I don't own the truck anymore. I'm pretty sure they would have fixed it. But I already brought it back once for another issue and wasn't about to do it again as I was without a car because the insurance rental was up So here we are he probably would have fixed it. Was in the North Andover area, coolant low light came on. Stopped into the first shop on route 114 panicked and was greeted by Jim. Within minutes he had a mechanic taking a quick peek at my car to tell me the expansion tank cracked an he could order a new one for me. They fixed the car with a great turnaround time and the price were very reasonable. They seem to have both auto mechanics and body shop efforts going on under the same roof. He seems to do it all there. I highly recommend these guys for all your automotive needs. Great group of people. read more

I had pulled into a parking spot that had a chunk of ice which pulled off the plastic undercover of the front of my car. When I hit 40 mph, my car sounded like a bicycle with a trading card in the spokes. After being told it would be a wait of at least two weeks to get it repaired at a Toyota collison center, I stopped at AV Repair on my way to work. Not only was my car put on the lift within 10 minutes, Mr. Smetanka had the mechanic put in some screws to hold it in place. He explained that except for the fact the plastic was a bit ragged from scraping the road, it did not need any further repair. When I asked for the bill, he said , "No charge. Glad to help." I haven't had anyone be this honest and generous in a long time. I will definitely take my car here if it needs any repairs. Right before the holidays, I got into a fairly bad accident. Feeling very overwhelmed I called a few shops in the area. When I called AV Repair I was immediately greated by Jim's kind supportive voice. It was my first time dealing with getting a car repaired post accident and he helped me through every step of the process. On a Thursday evening, I called ATS to have them look at some rear bumper damage to my car. Jim was able to look at it first thing Friday morning. When I dropped it off, he took a look at it, explained what he could see, then explained to me what the potential issues could be once they looked underneath. About an hour later he called back and explained the situation: cosmetic damage only. I pushed a little to make sure there wasn't anything that I really needed to take care of. He explained which layers of the bumper had absorbed the impact and which hadn't even been touched, setting my mind at ease. I would go back to ATS in a heartbeat. I've been in the area almost 13yrs and have never found a garage that I felt I could really trust. We found this place as we were looking for a repair shop after our car was involved in fender bender and needed body work back in Dec'12/Jan'13. Jim was very helpful and informative and he also took time to explain a lot of the work that was needed. He also mentioned they do more than just autobody work and based on the that, we decided to send our cars over for maintenance and other repairs. Since we started going there, we have been VERY pleased with the service, the quick turnaround time, the reasonable prices, and also with Jim's candor. If we were looking at a big job for a car, he asked what our intentions were to put into perspective whether the fix was really needed or possibly a nice-to-have. We ended up not having the job done, which would have been more than $2k, but he's earned our trust and repeated business. It seems they are also listed as "AV Repair Inc." Buffed out a scratch (for free) that was not even part of the accident that insurance covered 4.
