My 2014 Prius suddenly died this past weekend. After having multiple tows/mechanics unable to fix the issue, I called AutoNation on Monday night. Even though I did not have a service appointment, the AutoNation team was able to take my car immediately, and I was back on the road by Wednesday afternoon. My service rep, Rejinald was extremely helpful and kept me in the loop every step of the way. He also preemptively applied several coupons to help lower the cost! Sold a vehicle to AutoNation two months ago. I then started getting a series of toll violation notices from whomever purchased the car from them. Apparently, AutoNation either delayed sending (or never sent in) the DMV notice of transfer of liability, despite telling us they would handle everything regarding the transfer. I am now having a hell of a time disputing the toll violation notices, because whoever purchased the vehicle apparently delayed in registering the vehicle to themselves. This all despite AutoNation telling us multiple times that we would not be responsible for anything financially related to the car after selling it to these folks. Picture this: It's my birthday, I'm driving down the freeway to pick up my friend from the hospital after a surgery, and the most horrible scraping sound erupts from below my car. I'm panicking, I know I need to get off the road as fast as possible, I'm pretty sure it's my skid plate as I've had problems with it before. Luckily I'm able to get off the freeway, but it's 5:30pm and there's only one car place open that's close enough that I'm comfortable driving there. A Toyota service center. One problem. I drive a Honda Civic. I don't have a choice, I just have to rely on the kindness of strangers. My friend is counting on me to pick him up. I pull in, loudly scraping their intake room floor, and probably looking a little wild eyed. A no nonsense looking woman is giving me the appropriate amount of confusion and pity as she asks what she can help me with. I explain my situation, in the background I see/hear a mechanic do a double take and say "that isn't a Toyota", but the kind woman tells me to give my keys to the man next to her and they'll take care of it. Without missing a beat, they have my car up off the ground, skid plate removed, and my tires' air topped off. I didn't even have time to sit down, I cracked some jokes about what I then learned was the foreman's "not a Toyota" comment with another mechanic, and they had my car back to me so quickly I realized I wouldn't even be late to pick up my friend. I try to press some cash into the hand of the mechanic as he gives me my keys back, he refuses to take it. I insist, he tells me "just tell people we do good work". And I promised him I would. There's good people here. They took care of me when I really needed it. They didn't even consider for a second that they wouldn't be making any money off of me. It's a bit cheesy but I really needed something like this right now, a reminder that people care about each other just because we're people and not for what we can do for them. This dealership only provides good customer service when you are interested in buying a car. Once you are done, any follow up takes forever to get a response. I traded my car to get a new lease and the check refund for the equity of my car is taking forever to be processed. Their Finance Manager Robert Welch does not respond to voice messages left on his phone nor responds to emails sent. Really bad, bad customer service. Finally making the switch to an independent expert... (Service & Repair Review; have never stepped foot in the show room) Been taking my '07 FJ Cruiser here since moving to the area in 2014. Well until now... This latest episode of suggested repairs has been suspicious and I went for a second opinion. It started with a transfer case seal leak quoted at around $600 9 months ago and was ok to push out a little. 4 months ago, the SAME issue was quoted at $1700, but we pushed again. Then last month, $3500, taking apart the entire transfer case to get to the seals. Still the SAME 'problem', but this approach is not necessary for FJ Cruisers. Landcruisers may need this. Additionally $3600 for oil pan and sump pan repairs except they didn't even exactly know what was seeping, and $2800 for upper and lower control arms. "The bushings are cracked". So staring down $10K of repairs I sought out a well regarded independent who focuses on these vehicles. The verdict: - The oil pan is fine, the seeping liquid came from a bolt on the differential that was not properly tightened when AutoNation performed the differential service. - The upper control arm is fine. They typically last forever. - The lower arm bushing cracks are SURFACE cracks and can go another 50K miles. So makes me wonder how bad those CV boots really were. Those were expensive repairs. - The transfer case seals can be replaced for around the original quote from 9 months ago, except AutoNation won't be the ones doing it. Similar to other reviews, the wait times have increased, the communication decreased. An appointment merely gives you a check-in slot, doesn't mean your repair/service slot is scheduled appropriately, so waiting is not an option anymore. And so many times I had thousands of dollars of repairs performed and they don't even run the car through the car wash. I used to get plenty of coupons or even service manager discounts on more expensive repairs. This has ceased completely. I just got a blank stare from a service manager I haven't dealt with before when asking if there is anything we could do about the price tag. Also I feel the quality of work is not where it should be (anymore). From the improperly tightened differential bolt to a (luckily empty) plastic oil canister that was left in the engine compartment and started rubbing against the engine belt in 2017. Their remedy for that, a car wash. Granted inside and outside, but had to take the car back again just for that. I'm just done with this outfit. read more

We went to AAA authorized repair facility and battery replacement $228. Oh and tires perfectly fine. The discount oil change will cost you $2k so be careful of this place. We will never go back. I typically get my car serviced at a dealership closer to my job. However, since I'm working from home, I didn't have time to make the 40 mile drive down the freeway. Let me preface this review by sharing that I've been to this service center on at least 3 different occasions and each time, it's always been the same. You'll take your vehicle in for one thing and they'll tack on a bunch of other unnecessary recommendations to get more money out of you. I drive a 2016 Rav4 with around 70k miles on it. I was here 2 years ago with 35k miles on my car. My keyless entry function stopped working on one of my keys. One key had the capability to enable and disable the alarm but the other key was unresponsive. We changed the battery but that wasn't the issue. The key itself was dead. So I brought it to this location and since it was under warranty (at that time), it was covered. They explained that it's rare when this happens but it's great that it was covered under warranty. So here I am, 2 years later with double the mileage and the same issue happened again! So I brought it in and of course, it wasn't covered under the warranty anymore. Ok, fine so let's replace the key! They asked if I wanted the vehicle serviced at this time and I said, "No, I got it serviced in August and I just need the key replaced." They were told NOT to do anything else to my car. So they replaced the key which is what I asked for. However, just like every other time, they tried to take me for a ride again! These people called to say that they took it upon themselves to test MY battery and that it failed the test. What?? Then, my receipt stated that "the customer requested a multi point inspection". No I didn't! They started recommending all kinds of work to be done to my vehicle. I declined all of it!!! I called the dealership that usually services my vehicle and they pulled up the notes from my last service 4 months prior to this and said that none of that was necessary. But here's the issue. I have a dash cam installed in my car. I could see everything that they were doing. My hood was never raised to check the battery! It was never raised to check for all of the other issues that they claimed needed to be addressed either. They just had it in the back with my car running and focused on the key. As my car was running continuously for quite some time, all they they did was work on a computer and program a new key to work with my vehicle. I guess they didn't think that I'd check the footage to see what was done and what they were saying. When I got my car back, we hooked up our own multi meter battery tester and the results were quite interesting! Check this out! The vehicle should be at 12 volts when the engine isn't running and at 14 volts with the alternator running. My vehicle was at 12 volts without the engine running and above 14 volts when the alternator was running. Yes, we had our own multi meter to test it ourselves. The battery is nowhere near weak! Thank my lucky stars that I turned down their request to change my battery with some "epic year end savings"! This place always takes it upon themselves to try and rip me off. I take my vehicle in for one thing and they add all kinds of recommendations that are unnecessary! I did call Toyota corporate to complain as well because I'm not letting this go. My dash cam was on for quite some time and again, they didn't raise that hood to check anything. Needless to say, I will not return to this location and I'll just take that 40 mile drive back to my trusted Toyota location from now on! These people will rip you off if you let them think that they've got the upper hand. read more

The absolute worse service in OC. I ordered a seat belt receiver for a 1997 previa van, it took awhile to arribe and when it did I stopped at the Service department. A women there that was walking between cars waiting to be serviced asked me what was I there for? I answered and without any hesitation or checking she quoted $350.00 to install the buckle receiver on the passenger's seat. She said the seat had to be removed and was lots of work!!! I don't know where she got her data or what mechanical license she has but that was totally false and way way overpriced. Today I took my van to Reputation Auto Customs in Santa Ana. They removed the old damaged buckle installed the new one in 15 minutes and charged me $85.00!!!! If you have money to burn go to toyota this lady will make sure to overcharge you 3 or 4 times the right price. I'am in the market for a new toyota, but this will be the last place I'll look.. Stood outside the car after about ten minutes. Typical oil change nothing else will take your and half. Certainly goto or oil change place and get it done in less than 30 minutes. Is one of those places off 405 and jamboree. Next time these people call and try to offer some kind of service promotion think of how much your time is Worth. Prepare for zero communication and where an hour and a half ends up being well over three hours. Ultimately find another place. As most have stated this business is run very poorly read more

Been going here since I bought my Prius here in 2016. Service was OK until last couple of years and has been getting progressively worse. Today was worst day. After getting six months service costing several hundred dollars each time, guy quotes $1300 this time. One was $450 for changing the spark plugs which I guess is expensive these days but found pricing starting at $300 and maxing at $375 from nearby shops. Hardly anyone here today on a usually busy Saturday morning yet still 3 hour (at least) wait. I think the word is getting out both on the sales and service side this is no longer a reliable place to do business. read more

No one loves to be at the dealership for repairs and service, but this Toyota dealership makes it tolerable. The waiting area is spacious and has the basic coffee/ water selection. They remained open through the pandemic, which was when I visited, so I'm not sure if they offer better food/ drink during "normal" times. WiFi was available and the signal strength was good so you can actually get some work done while waiting. The staff seemed knowledgeable and friendly and the set-up of drive-in / waiting / and retrieving your vehicle was clearly organized and streamlined. If you have to be at the dealership, this is not a bad place to be. Nothing special , but the spaciousness and organization make this dealer a solid option. read more

I should have checked the ratings before I came here. I bought my car from here about 8 months ago (a pre-owned Prius prime). A few weeks ago I started getting a "maintenance required" notification, googled it and learned that means it most likely needs an oil change. Well, I brought it here and wouldn't you know, I do need an oil change. But they ALSO want to charge me $1100 for ALL KINDS OF STUFF. I'm like "I can't possibly need all of this. I bought the car 8 months ago." To which they try and explain that my car was a surrendered lease, so yes I probably do need all of this stuff. I'm thinking "What about the "certified pre-owned process? You don't check for any of these things before you resell it?" Long story short - I say absolutely not. Just give me an oil change and the battery fan cleaning (to the tune of $300 mind you). I waste another 10 minutes going around and around as they try and upsell me on everything until they FINALLY give it up and agree to do the oil change and fan cleaning. They say "ok come back at 4" (it was 12:30 at the time I dropped it off). Husband and I find a way to kill time for 3.5 hours, come back at 4, are made to wait around for another 20 minutes and then are told "it won't be ready for another hour". For an oil change and a fan cleaning. Give me a break! I don't appreciate the pushy sales pitch, I don't appreciate having my time wasted, and I don't appreciate being overcharged for basic maintenance. First time trying AutoNation Toyota Irvine after moving into the area from Cypress. My experience and thoughts: Brought my Prius V in for its 30,000 mile service. Service has 4 incoming lanes with 2 different service advisor "teams" on each side with service staff in the middle. No greeters or anyone to guide customers when they drive in. Ummmmm?!?! Got out of the car and looked around, 2 ppl passed and said "Someone will be right with you." Okay, good. Took about 5-6 minutes before I initiated a conversation with Oscar Moguel, who eventually became my Service Advisor. Oscar was quite professional in manner and very friendly. I asked for his name after giving mine. He wrote me up for a 30K Service and I noticed the Toyota Care Plus for $329 covering maintenance services 30K to 45K (every 5K miles). SIGN ME UP! Oscar did, as the 30K service runs $299. No unexpected experiences today in service or parts. Everyone seems so friendly. Oscar called me once the 30K was completed. Cashier was professional as well. There is literally ZERO difference between making a service appointment (and being assigned a service advisor) versus coming in on a whim. Every customer waits in the same line. Got an appointment? Great! Get in the back of the line and wait 30 minutes before anyone approaches your vehicle to check you in. You hear that right. 30 minutes past your appointment before being approached, and 45 minutes past your appointment to go about your day. The service line didn't even have more than 10 cars at the time. What an absolute joke! And the cherry on top? They washed every car being picked up except mine. I explained this to "Gabby" on the phone and offered them the opportunity to earn my business and make up for last time. I was VERY clear that I wanted an oil change and tire rotation ONLY. Got another service writer assigned and explained to him that I only wanted an oil change and tire rotation, and furthermore, what I went through last time and promised to walk out if I got the upsell again. When I was finally acknowledged, the advisor told me he wouldn't even be able to check me in for another 30-40 minutes. I didn't used to have issues bringing my car in about a year ago, but it has really declined over time. Their organization has never been stellar, but today was particularly bad. I made an appointment for 11:30, pulled up at 11:25, and couldn't flag someone down to talk to me until about 11:50. At that point, they said someone would check me in "shortly." I waited another 15 minutes until I had to flag someone down again and they said that it would be "soon." I didn't actually get to talk to someone and checked in until 12:35. And now it will be about an hour and a half to get an oil change and tires rotated. I fully realize I could be taking my car someplace else for this service and it would likely save me two hours, so I will own that part. But I think they could exponentially improve in some areas: 1. Communication. I have never had so many people in one location avoid eye contact or walk hurriedly by in a desperate attempt to not engage. I really just needed to hear that I was in the right place and that they knew I was here. 2. Sexism(?!). I don't know if it was a coincidence or I am reading into it too much, but at least two men who arrived after me and one more aggressive man who just started walking up and disturbing people at their desks was serviced before I was. Maybe I need to be more assertive? I was ready to start throwing hands, but I just got my nails done and I don't feel like I should have to be shouting and making a scene to get checked in for an appointment. 3. Organization. You can make an appointment online, but apparently this only means that they will try to get you in that day (then why have appointment times?!). If there was at least an indicator on the site that the time doesn't really mean anything, I would feel better. A greeter? Someone who is like "Hey friend, we are packed today and it might be a wait, but I see you and I got you!" instead of having to stalk people in order to get information. Check in should seemingly happen right away, especially when the waiting room is maddeningly close (and actually quite nice) but, I have to stand in a quasi dangerous garage with avoidant people for an hour to actually get to sit in it. Was scheduled for a routine maintenance. They took a very long time to even talk with me when I arrived. The person that worked with tried to upsell me on an alignment for $139. I declined and later found out they had a deal running for a $79 alignment. He said the car would be done by 4 pm. I never received a call from the dealer. After repeated attempts to contact them, leaving messages, I finally spoke to someone that checked on my vehicle. They proceeded to say if I could get there in the next 10 minutes so.eone would be there. Otherwise they were closing. They then said they were not open on Sundays so I wouldn't be able to get my vehicle until Monday. Worst customer service ever. This is the 2nd time the service was horrible at this location. I will not go back. So much for strong Toyota service. Don't go to them if you can avoid it. read more

Had to wait to get checked in then sit in a crowded waiting room. Was told the service should take an hour and a half and it took two and half hours. Once your free service is done with the dealership do not come here! My husband made an appointment for a regular service for our car at Irvine location. Our appointment was booked with Eric. I called ahead and let them know that I was going to be late because of an accident on the freeway. I was about 15 minutes late. I get there and another gentleman comes to service my car, I asked if he was Eric he said no he is off today. So I said okay I need it serviced so I will go through you. And when I am checked out ti leave he told me that my estimated wait time was going to be between 11:30-12. It's now almost 2:30 and when I called to find the cars eta they said they don't have anyone working here by the name of the guy who took my keys and they were trying to find my vehicle. At this point I had been transferred twice and I am beyond irritated. We are now sitting here at Toyota autoNation of Irvine waiting for them to find the vehicle because we have to go to work in the evening time. I will not ever bring my car back here for service.
