My car is my baby. I needed to graduate to a mechanic once my warranty period passed. So, of course I asked my man. His recommendation? Automotive Technicians. Their reputation is stellar. These guys are the guys that take care of a lot of state government vehicles. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. No, there aren't many reviews. But they're all 5 stars. And w my man coming here professionally & personally for so many years, I didn't think twice. He introduced me to Henry & Larry. They're extremely knowledgable & personable. They've now worked on my baby twice. I dropped her off & picked her up either the same day or on the next day, depending on what was being done. They were professional & thorough. Any questions I had were answered. Any concerns I had were addressed & handled. Auto Tech doesn't advertise. It's all word of mouth. The best. 5 stars. read more

I loved this place! So sad to see it gone. Does anyone know where Henry Lau started working after they closed shop? I'd love to continue to take my car to him. read more

You often hear that a good, honest mechanic is hard to find. You will find them at Automotive Technicians, as the solely five-star ratings here and on Google attest. While there have been only a few reviewers on both sites, I believe this is largely because the shop does not do any marketing of its fine work. Like so many great businesses, the shop seems to rely on repeat patronage and word-of-mouth advertising. I actually learned of the shop through my co-worker who learned of it through his aunt, a long-time customer. I am now telling everybody I know. The shop is small and low-key, but the mechanics are deeply experienced, straight-forward in how they do business and, best of all, honest. After so many years of getting assessments from places like Midas and Quality Tune-up, and wondering if the assessments and recommendations were real or an unnecessary up-sell, I feel like I've hit upon a hidden treasure. Since I've discovered them, Automotive Technicians has done everything from minor repairs such as replacing my radiator cap and brake work to more major scheduled maintenance such as replacing my timing belt and water pump. They do an excellent job, do it quickly (my brakes, timing belt, water pump and alternator belt were replaced in one day) and charge a fair price. Best of all, they provide peace of mind - which is what you get when you know you are getting honest assessments and quotes. Full disclosure, I was a classmate of the master mechanic, Henry Lau, in Kindergarten and in high school. But I sense that he treats everybody genuinely, regardless of whether or not you may have a personal history/ connection with him--which you will undoubtedly develop after your first visit and become their next loyal customer. read more

My favorite auto repair! Trustworthy, cheap price, professional, friendly and always make good recommendations!

Took my car here to get a routine maintenance and tune-up and I can truly say that the owner was honest and did not charge me for anything I did not need. If you want to get quality service, I recommend Automotive Technicians. It's located in the TL, near the Financial District, so you can drop your car off to get some work done and return at the end of the day to retreive your car depending on the amount of work needed. read more

Automotive Technicians is now my go-to car repair shop. After another place proposed a $1700 water pump replacement on my 2008 car, I got a good recommendation to have Henry give a second opinion. He ran the motor for days and found that nothing was actually wrong! He didn't even charge a diagnostic fee. I highly recommend the shop. read more

We have been using Larry & Henry and their crew at Automotive Technicians for many, many years. They are terrific. Honest, reliable and very reasonable. We moved across the Bay to Alameda about 8 years ago but still come back into San Francisco to Automotive Technicians whenever we need anything serious done to our van. We can HIGHLY recommend them. Well, the time had come the walrus said, to talk of many things...just kidding. The time had come, my trusty steed was in need of some professional maintenance as my worst nightmare had happened, it seemed to be coming to it's untimely demise at each approaching stop sign. The holiday season is upon us, and with a young child at home and not a lot of money on hand, I had to make a decision and fast! A trustworthy friend turned me onto Automotive Technicians, and I towed my beautiful whip to their garage on a Friday. All weekend I foiled over what may be an eminent death, and a costly one nonetheless. Was I going to be able to buy presents for my two year old this year? Would I be able to afford to see my family? The answer is yes, to both of those questions. For Henry is both a gentleman AND a scholar! My car was ready to be picked up by Monday, with a hose disconnected and another minor issue, setting me back a whole whopping $100!! My little black chariot now awaits me in my garage where she belongs, and we lived happily ever after! I will be returning (hopefully not soon!), and would recommend to a friend. Thanks for everything, AT! read more

The owners are great and reliable. Henry knows his stuff and is very honest! He's been a technician for almost 20 years. We moved out of SF a few years ago but we still bring our car back to Automotive Technicians to repair/maintain. They are open on Saturdays too! read more

Henry is the main technician and he is very honest and good. If he doesnt know, he will tell you that. Henry has taken care of my cars for over 15 years, and has save me a lot of time and money. He has done clutch, brakes, overall tuneup, water pumps, timing belts, alt belts, alternator, suspension, valve jobs for me, over the years. I always ask him for advice on any purchase of a car. I have recommended him to several people. The unfortunate thing is the location (tenderloin),,, but I overlook that, as I do not trust my cars to anyone else. BTW, I now live in Sacramento, and I will travel to SF to see Henry for car problems. He is that good! read more
