David is very prompt and highly knowledgeable. He also smog test older vehicles but that needs an appointment as it needs more time to work with I took our 1983 Nissan truck for smog and did not pass the first time. It needed parts to be replaced and replace them I did. It passed no problem Highly recommend SF Star Smog and ask for David read more

Honest and fast smog check service. Also one of the more reasonably priced smog checks in the city. I usually call ahead but there has never been a long wait. read more

The service was really good! the price is very reasonable, we called before coming in, while others charge $80+, they only charged $65. I will definitely use them again! read more

20 minutes before closing I called to ask if they could squeeze me in for a smog check. They happily welcomed me in and promptly took care of the service. I noticed that a couple of other customers pulled in shortly after published closing hours and SF Star kindly took care of them as well. I used the Yelp coupon and saved $10 when compared to other locations. read more

Hands down he best deal in San Francisco. Came in at 1pm on a Thursday without an appointment, the man that helped me was very nice and efficient. SF Star Smog - Smog Check Stations Near Me - San Francisco, California

Easy peasy Why I book it here +'s: + Takes appointments for Star Smog Tests $79.95 + Friendly service + Next to MCD if you want fries Why I don't book it here -'s: - Can't think of a reason not to Have been coming here annually for last few years and will continue read more

My car did not pass the first time. But because the technician did such a terrible job of explaining what the problem was, I did not do the correct things to fix the problem. So when I came back for the one and only re-test, it failed again. I found someone else at an auto repair shop who correctly interpreted the error. Then I was able to fix it. But...I had to pay another $40 to SF Star Smog. So, this is perhaps the cheapest smog check. But I guess I got what I paid for. read more

They only took 10 minutes to do my smog. The technician was very professional and polite. He also noticed my tires had some damage that needed to be repaired. He saw I'd gotten them from Costco and told me "they are probably under warranty, so you should take them to Costco and save some money". I did that and he was right! I had no idea! Also by booking my (same day) appointment online, the cost was a total of $49.95 with their coupon, so I saved maybe $30 with them. Definitely this is my go-to place. read more

Fast service and competent & friendly staff. Turnaround time is about 20 mins and under $50 with a coupon. Can't beat that

Very efficient and very reasonable price compared to other smog test centers in San Francisco.

If u want honesty don't come here. Guy (owner David) give u a price and then the price is different at the end. I ask if him does he still honor a discount for Yelp check in. He makes up shit like only 2 times. Don't waste your time. Sunny as hell no waiting area and cars go in and out of the gas station hella dangerous while u waiting. Go other places around Potrero Ave for better pricing. I Don't write review but feel like I had to say something. read more

The bad news is that my car failed the first test. The good news was that it failed because the battery had been disconnected/replaced recently so the "fix" wouldn't cost anything. More on that later. I went back a few weeks later, they honored the free re-test and we passed. Both times they were pretty quick, and if you do need to pass some time there is the MacDonalds and the whole Potrero shopping center. So I recommend this place. Good price, but they only take cash with the Yelp discount. There is an ATM in the convenience store, with a $3.50 fee. Now, if you fail because your car's computer doesn't have a full "driving cycle" you'll need to let your car idle for over 5 minutes in the morning. Then you'll somehow need to slow down from 55 to less than 20 without using the brake. Safest place that I found to do this was the Sneath Lane southbound exit on 280. Stay to the left once you hit the exit. read more

I had a quick fast smog service without an appointment! They file with the DMV. Pro tip - if you have AAA you can go to the Potrero AAA right after to register your car. read more

Even though I wasn't able to get my smog check done because of a Service Engine Soon light, I still wanted to leave a positive review. The guy who helped me was super friendly, professional, and took the time to explain why they couldn't proceed with the test. He didn't rush me, didn't try to upsell anything, and showed genuine care even though I wasn't a paying customer this time. It's rare to find that kind of honesty and good attitude in auto shops these days. I'll definitely be back once the issue is resolved, just based on the great customer service alone. Highly recommend! read more

My 5th time using these guys! ALWAYS professional, courteous and fair pricing.... Highly recommended!!!

Made an appointment for 10am and arrived 5 minutes late (my fault) so they had to let another get smogged before me. David was able to help me after about 20 minutes wait. He was very well spoken and a nice guy. I told him DMV required me to get a smog and he got the process started and told me it would only take 20 minutes. Advice** it is CASH ONLY FOR SMOG CHECKS! All in all cost me $49. Luckily, there was an atm inside and I grabbed some cash. David gave me my paperwork and sent my information of passing the smog test to DMV and I was all set. Thank you David! Everyone get your smog checks done here! read more

I have been going to this place for years, because I don't drive my car very much, the test doesn't pass, every time the gentleman that works there tells me "go drive on the freeway for an hour and come back and we'll do the test again". This inspector that works at this place is such a gentleman, very kind and attentive and courteous. He treats everyone that goes there with respect and dignity. I have never gone anywhere else to have my vehicle smog tested. And I will continue to give this place my business. This was happened today 01-05-2025. read more

For our smog check, we got a great price and great service! We didn't even bother to call, dropping in at 4:30 pm with just 30 minutes before closing. We were lucky that another customer was staying wrapping up, so we left the car and walked to Safeway for groceries. Also, he has no problem paying with credit card. A few places are cash only. read more
