I unfortunately had my car rear ended earlier this year, but Charles Henry made the entire repair process very easy and stress-free. Don was a great help and explained all the repairs that needed to be done thoroughly, and he was happy to answer any additional questions you may ever have. They helped take care of the cumbersome back & forth process with the other party's insurance and made sure that my car was repaired with original and high quality parts, not a cheap replacement part. The repairs took a little longer than initially anticipated, but it was fine and the team here did a fantastic job with the repairs - the car looks good as new. Hopefully I don't get caught in a repair situation again, but if I do, this is the first place that I'll be coming back to. read more

I've used Charles Henry's services on two of my cars (an Acura and a BMW) and they're one of the few (perhaps the only) collision shops that my excellent insurance, USAA, recommends. Charles Henry did a great job on my BMW replacing the driver's side mirror I whacked trying to get around a neighbor's poorly parked car in my narrow garage as well as a spoiler that got cracked in a public lot. Since it wasn't safe to drive the car without that mirror, I was relieved that Charles Henry fit me in the next day and finished the work that afternoon. They also put new clips on my bumper that had been knocked askew and only charged me for the parts ($5), not the labor that would've been an additional $50. I thought their estimate was more than fair and since was it below my deductible, I was appreciative they made it as skinny as possible. Had I gone through the dealership, it would've been far more expensive and I would've had to wait several days for an appointment - and I can almost guarantee they wouldn't have been able to turn it around the same day. My 7 year-old car now looks in brand-new condition and Charles Henry - I like you but I hope not to see you soon! read more

After a good five years of being incident-free, I had an unfortunate and very traumatic encounter with a guardrail. While the damage itself seemed minor, the passenger door made an ugly noise, and the rail had grazed all five panels on the right side of my car, resulting in an expensive fix. I knew the car wasn't worth a ton, so when I went in to Charles Henry, I was freaking out. Is my car totaled over this stupid incident? Fortunately, they were able to get my car looking brand new while coming in JUST under the total line. I am so grateful. Plus, they detailed the whole thing. I really appreciated how understanding they were about how traumatic an accident can be. Their service is top-notch, just like it was when I first visited them five years ago. read more

If you want to know why the reviews for this place are either extremely positive or incredibly negative, read on: When I first went into the shop, it was for insurance repairs from a break-in and it required replacing my door. The employee who helped me, Brian, was polite enough but didn't seem too attentive. I figured, whatever, as long as the work gets done I don't really care. He wasn't outright rude, but rushed through things. Meh. Anyhoo -- the estimate for the damages showed up later than promised, Brian did not reply to my e-mails asking when the car would be finished in a timely manner, and when he did answer the text was curt and unapologetic. But still, whatever, I had an insurance rental and I can overlook a lack of tact. I have other things to worry about. Finally I pick up my car, that's supposed to be completely done, on a Saturday. Brian isn't there, and instead I meet his father who is a REALLY great guy. We had a lively conversation - he was incredibly easy to get along with. Great customer service, this is the kind of attitude that gets 5 star reviews (so I can understand what my fellow yelpers are raving about). BUT when I got my car, the panels weren't replaced properly, one of my speakers wasn't installed, and the lettering decal that was put on the door by the mechanics had a 2-3 inch gap between the middle letters. The car looked like crap, and even though after I called attention to these issues they were fixed on the spot, I was unhappy because I was expecting the work to be DONE and the car ready for pickup. Before I left, I was told that Brian would order me another decal and they'd replace it as soon as it came. The next week, I received no word from Brian so I contacted him myself. When the decal arrived, I emailed again asking when and if it was possible to pick up the decal and apply it myself, explaining that I do not work in SF and cannot make it during the hours the mechanics are available. This was two months ago, and I still have not received a reply. The insurance paid them out and the decal still has a gaping hole in it. I also found damage on the door that they "replaced" after I had already picked up my car and signed for the repairs. Because I don't have time to pick a fight with them I decided that it wasn't worth stressing out over. And so my friends, that is the last straw. I will not do business with Charles Henry again, and if you have high expectations for customer service (or value your time) I would advise you to steer clear. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Charles Henry Company. Given what happened involving a simple procedure, I do not recommend this repair shop for any work. I have a Nissan SUV which I like to take off-roading. I asked them to mount an aftermarket front bumper on it and an aftermarket skid plate, and remove the original manufacturer ones. In addition, they would change one of the front fenders since it had gotten too scratched and a little deformed over time. When they told me the car was ready to pick up, it looked really bad. I posted a photo to show it. The bumper was mounted a good 3 inches too low, leaving ugly gaps below the headlamps. They had removed the wheel well liners (which catch mud and water around the wheels) and the original skid plate, but had not mounted the new skid plate. Nor had they re-mounted the wheel well liners. Also they left the original tow hook on, which is not needed with the new off-roading bumper and is now very exposed and unsightly. When I protested that the bumper was not properly mounted, they were able to lift it up a bit so now at least it looks OK. In addition, after this "repair" my car started making a very audible and annoying squeaky noise as it moves. My guess is that the installation of the new fender might be to blame although the noise inside is too vague to pinpoint. Now I need to go somewhere else to finish the job of installing the wheel well liners, skid plate, and remove the tow hook. As well as locate and fix the squeaky noise. In all it will probably cost me double. In the meantime, I can't take the SUV off road without a skid plate, while inviting mud and dust to fill every nook and cranny behind the wheels. When I posted about this in an online off-roading forum, everyone was unanimous that mounting a bumper is a relatively simple task, and if they botched that, there is no telling what could happen with more complex work. Therefore, I am sorry to say that I do not recommend this shop for anything. read more

The crew here is top notch! I had a small fender bender and they took care of my car very quickly. They used OEM parts and made the process as hands off as possible for me. They arranged for a rental car drop off and pick up. The team does a great job with communication and would give me updates through the process. I got into a pretty bad accident a couple months back and my uncle referred me to the folks at Charles Henry. Check out the photo I posted of my Fiat 500 Abarth... I think the work speaks for itself. These guys did an amazing job, and I couldn't be happier. Vee is great to work with! As the other reviews have mentioned, he's professional, honest, accommodating, and timely. The best part of my experience was that I didn't have to be at the shop once, and I never met Vee in person. Due to extenuating circumstances, I had to make arrangements to have the car towed to the shop, and trust that the job would be done. I'm glad that I took the chance, because my Fiat came back looking better than ever. The whole process took a little over a month, but during that time, Vee made sure to keep me updated on progress. When I would check in, he always got back to me in a timely manner. When the car was done, he made arrangements to have it towed back to my place. I have used this place before and was pleased, but this last time was a joke. Bumper did not fit properly, large gap, I don't know how they didn't notice. They forgot to replace wiper fluid jets and hose, then lost the parts. I only realized when trying to use it. Foot prints were left on my upholstery from their workers Glass that was replaced had a large noticeable scratch. Have to come back again after they get in parts. Very irritated and disappointed. About a week later they replaced the parts they had lost for the windshield washer. About a week after that my car would not start. Took the car to my mechanic at the Toy shop and he said the battery was not installed correctly with the cables not attach correctly in the hose exhausting the toxic gas was not attached. He corrected that issue and he also said that the second latch of a two-part safety system for the hood was missing. I contacted Charles Henry they said they would call me back and now it's the following day in the afternoon and still haven't gotten back to me. My mechanic said the car is not safe to drive with a hood not being completely secure. I have called several times and was told I would receive a call back shortly but I've had to call back twice because no one has responded. read more

I have been a customer at Charles Henry several times and each time i was waited on promptly and if there was a wait I was provided with an estimate of how long I would wait and it was never more than 15 minutes (and I always dropped by without making an appt). Repairs were always explained to me so I could understand what was being done and how long it would take. I was appraised of any unusal delays or where the parts were coming from etc. Additionally, more often than not I was appraised of any options that could lessen the cost to me since I was coming out of pocket. I tried really hard to become a customer here, but apparently they didnt want my business. I have some scratches/dings/dents on my car that I wanted to get fixed. Someone recommended Charles Henry Company, so I came by one day to get a quote. I told them that I wasnt planning on going through my insurance and that I would pay everything out of pocket- total cost would be around $1,500.00 as quoted by another company and that was OK with me. Perhaps this was the catch and they probably thought I was trying to waste their time or that I was just fishing around, but I really wasnt. I never even got a quote or a response back from them when I inquired about it a few times. The guy kept telling me that he's working on it but never responded to my inquires. Do NOT get your Vespa repaired at Charles Henry Company unless you want real problems!! I am writing this review a couple of months after getting my Vespa back from Charles Henry, because I wanted to wait until I was calm, and had reasonable time to write a thoughtful and thorough review, without emotion. Where to begin? Someone crashed into my parked scooter while I was on a business trip. I returned to a scuffed up scooter with a cracked front fender. Overall, the damage looked minimal. I assumed a coat of paint, a new front fender, a new side mirror, and some new chrome (I had after-market crash bars installed) would do the trick. My scooter was purchased in February, was in as-new condition, and was kept either in a garage or under a cover almost every night since I purchased it. Getting the attention of the repair people at Charles Henry was difficult right out of the gate. They said, "we don't have a technician on site, we need to wait until someone can get here, etc." This went on for a couple weeks before I even got an estimate. When I spoke to them again, they blamed my insurance company. I called my insurance company (Geico) and was told, "we filled out the paperwork for THEM to make the estimate the same day the scooter was towed there. There was no delay on our end, we have records to prove that." Indeed, my own online insurance app showed that they dropped the scooter off, and were waiting for the estimate from Charles Henry. I was then told by Vee that he would have two estimates for me, one high and one low, as there was going to be some estimation about the entirety of the repair. I waited and got no call. I then checked back in with them and was told they submitted a quote for repair to Geico. They never told me about it, and I was not given a high or low estimate. They completed repairs and after over a month of waiting for my scooter, I went to pick it up. The mirror hung loose, so I had to ask the technician to tighten it before I even rode out of the shop. As I left, I noticed the handlebars were not at all straight on the bike. **Now the best part: They charged me for a brand new center stand (which sustained no damage in the tip over, but hey, they seemed to believe it needed to be replaced so it was part of the quote and it was one part they actually ordered - and charged Geico for). Also, the front chrome on the fender was covered in rust! They had not even replaced it with the new chrome (which was one of the parts ordered and charged to Geico for). When I asked where my new parts were, I was told they did not get ordered, and it was due to "Scooter West not including a detailed item on the invoice." This is a very interesting story, as I have ordered from them before, and always get a detailed invoice including parts, part names, part numbers, prices, etc. They told me they would re-order the parts and replace them, which they did.******* Vee blamed Geico, then he blamed ScooterWest.com. When I told him about the loose mirror, he blamed the "rough streets in San Francisco, they shake everything loose." That was an amazing story, as the bike went INto his shop without loose mirrors, but when I went to leave AFTER it was fixed there, the mirror was loose. This is a guy who is KING of CYA. He never offered an apology. OK, so back to when I got the scooter. ,When I went to apply the brakes at one point, the right brake lever completely locked up! I then returned the scooter and asked them to fix the brake and the handlebars. They said they would have to bleed the brake again. I returned, waited a couple hours, and rode off. The handlebars were crooked once again, and I had to circle the block to return. I told them they need to RIDE the scooter to make sure it is correct. They did this and away I went, only to have the brake lock out again as I rode back to work! I called and was told they "topped off the brake fluid." So I don't know whether they ever did even re-bleed the brake, it just simply was not fixed and that was a dangerous situation for me to be riding in! I called and was told by Vee that I could take the scooter to Scuderia, where a real mechanic would look at the brake and fix it. I got on the scooter, rode down the street, and two blocks from my office, the scooter began to gasp, sputter, and lose power. It died on Sutter Street in downtown San Francisco! I called Vee and told him he needed to have my scooter towed. Scuderia luckily are champs, and as always, they did great work. They discovered that the front wheel would not stop when turning left (think of a clown car, only it is not funny because I could have been severely injured riding on that broken front wheel). They had to replace the entire front fork. They had to fix the brakes. Additionally, they discovered the throttle had an issue, probably when they disconnected the power while fixing it. Scuderia saved me, and put me back on a safe scooter that had a good solid fork and brakes that work. read more

When my car got totaled last year, the tow truck driver recommended Henry Charles Company. So we towed the car there. At first they were very nice and helpful. They were proactive in getting the repair quote to my insurance company. Then my insurance company decided to total the car and it would have cost me too much out of pocket to repair it. That's when their attitude changed. That's when they told me that they were charging me by the day to 'store' my car there. That's when they went from 5 stars to 2. I don't care so much that I had to pay per day. I realize that storage and even a bay in an auto repair shop costs them money. But the attitude change was unnecessary. It's like they're all nice to you if they know you're going to give them money. I'm on the fence about using them again if the need arises. I'm not in to short-term customer service. read more

Recommended by USAA for the repair of some minor collision damage to a plastic bumper, the work done by Charles Henry was satisfactory, however they failed to compete all of the repairs specified in my estimate. When I brought this to their attention, they expressed their regrets and told me that they would contact me about completing the repairs after they ordered an additional body part for my vehicle, however they never ordered the part or contacted me about the remaining repairs again. Their body work is adequate, but their customer service is lackluster, especially considering the rates they charge for their repairs. read more

I have taken my car to Charles Henry for body work for a few years, but for nothing too serious. My car got rear-ended on 101 a few months ago so I took it there to be fixed. I don't like to write bad reviews but my experience was really bad and I'd like to save others from something similar. I have an expensive after market exhaust fitted that was damaged in the accident and needed replacing. They got the part and seemingly fixed my car quite quickly. When I go t it back it was making a horrible grating noise. I phoned Robert at CH who basically fobbed me off and said that it wasn't fatal so they weren't too worried bout it. Eventually after a few weeks they deemed to look at the car. Their conclusion was that the new exhaust was defective and had a loose baffle. They said they would order a new one and have it replaced. This went on for months and months! Robert kept telling me that it was arriving next week, except it never did. I got really fed up with the whole thing and eventually I took the car to my regular garage for another issue and asked them to look at it while it was there. Within minutes of having the car on the lift they could see that the transmission cross piece had been broken in the accident and it was that making the horrible grating noise. This also explaining why the car kept jumping out of gear, a fact ignored by CH. In addition they also found that the exhaust was not fitted properly and was touching the rear bumper and half the screws holding various bits and pieces to the bottom of the car were completely missing. I find it utterly appalling that they missed what was really obvious damage to my car following the accident. Their work was terrible and they treated me like I was stupid, fobbing me off about the issue and giving me the run around for months. I will never even think of taking my car to them again and I suggest you don't either! read more

I had a lovely five-star experience with Charles Henry. Granted, I only came here because my poor Lola (7 yr old Nissan Versa) was parked and just minding her own business when she was mercilessly attacked by an erratic drugged-up driver. Not a good day. However, the people at both State Farm and Charles Henry made the repair process quick and painless. The day of the accident, I immediately called my car insurance to report the claim. State Farm handled it with ease and empathy and referred me to several auto repair shops. I chose to go with Charles Henry based on yelp reviews. The next morning, I had already received a call from them asking when I could bring Lola in for an estimate - no effort on my part at all! Just like that, I had an appointment set for the next day. Vee was so personable and accommodating and let me leave her there just to be safe, since I was already driving on a spare when I brought her in. These guys understand what a heartbreaking ordeal this can be, and handled it as such. Since it was my first time dropping my car off at an auto shop, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to take my car info and random stuff in my dashboard. So I decided to ask Vee. Me, pointing to the dashboard: "Is it okay if I leave my..." Vee: "Your Hello Kitty doll in the cup holder? Of course!" And with that, I knew my Lola was in good hands. (Yes, he also clarified that my car info was safe in the dash.) I was given a rough estimate of a 7-10 day turnaround. It actually took a little over 2 weeks, but I had initially expected it to be even longer. In fact, I didn't even notice the time that went by. While my car was in the shop, I had gotten 3 voicemails from Vee and 6 text messages informing me of their progress. They work directly with State Farm regarding the estimate and coverage info, which made my life much easier. When I finally picked her up, she was as good as new! I could easily tell that the mechanics at this shop really take pride in their work. She was spotless, the pearly blue paint matched seamlessly, and on top of that, they saved my old Hawaii registration sticker for me because they thought it'd be sentimental. So thoughtful! The only obvious difference is that the hubcaps in the front and rear are mismatched - no fault on their end. They tried their best to restore her parts to factory condition, but the hubcaps had already been replaced by cheap replicas once before. They offered to switch it up so that the caps on each side matched, but I declined. I think it adds character. The right side blinker also clicks like crazy when activated but it's something I could get used to. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Charles Henry (despite the unlucky circumstances) and would recommend them to anyone needing a good quality fix. read more

In all my years of being a car owner, I've never felt so taken care of at an auto repair shop. Vee shows a level of customer service and care for even the tiniest of details. One of my Vespa decals started to come off and he helped me get a new one on in seconds. I also had a light pop off and not only did he stick that thing back on, but he showed me how to fix it on my own incase it ever happens again. So happy with this team! Bad news. Twice, with two different cars, I've experienced vandalism. Once I found my car smashed while parked in a public parking garage. The second time someone jumped on my hood smashing it plus damaging my bumper. This happened in the middle of the night right in front of my house. Good news. Charles Henry Company. I have State Farm. They recommend many garages. I've used CHC twice. Don and Teresa are fantastic. Great communicators, timing was realistic and both experiences my car came out looking better than when it came in. I highly recommend this organization. Vee and his team were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and helpful. I had a couple of appointments crop up last minute that required me to bump when I'd bring in my Vespa, and they were understanding and able to reschedule with me no problem.
