I have to start by saying that we were NOT going to buy from Automax due to all of the negative reviews we read; however, after an unpleasant trip to our regular Audi dealership, we decided to just pop in and see the inventory at Automax. Immediately upon arrival, Matheus greeted us and was super helpful. We found a vehicle we really liked and the finance process was seamless. The entire time, Matheus was there ensuring we were taken care of. After signing on the dotted line, Matheus promised us a full detail on the car, inspected by him. After going through the motions with the bank, we scheduled a day and time to pick the vehicle up, which unfortunately was on Matheus's day off, (which was fine considering really anyone can hand you the keys), but he made it a point to show up, on his day off, to be there when we got the car. The icing on the cake is that it was impeccably detailed. We had an incredible experience here and highly recommend this place. Before you read a negative review, just remember that it can depend on a number of things, and isn't always the dealership's fault. Bought a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder here back in September of 2013. Got a really great price well below suggested price on KBB and Edmunds. Car was in amazing condition and after dealing with numerous other places who wouldn't budge on their price I was sure I got the best deal imaginable from Automax. 2 months after, I was surprised when I was driving and my transmission was slipping in the low gears. I called the service department at Automax and brought my truck in! They put me in a rental through Enterprise (at no cost to me) and after diagnosing the car they fixed the problem and had me back on the road within a few days. Not bad not bad... Well 2 months later the same issue arises again! Except this time it's clear that my transmission is beyond repair. Come to find out 2005-2007 were bad years for Nissan transmissions and even though I only had 68,000 miles it needed to be completely replaced.. This is where Automax earns their stars.. No dealer wants to hear this happens because fixing it would put them into a serious loss... Especially when it turns out there were multiple customers with the same issue.. After speaking with Mike the GM and owner Howard, they worked with me to come up with a resolution that made sense for everyone.. I'm happy to say I'll have my car back with a new transmission at no cost to me! And once again they went the extra mile and put me into a rental at no cost while my repair work is completed. This was a huge headache for all involved, but at the end of the day they do what's right for their customers no matter what the cost is.. Perhaps this is why they are the #1 used car dealership in New England!!! I have been in the market to buy a wrangler for quite some time now and I know they are in pretty high demand. Automax has like 15 of them on display so I figured I would check them out. Turns out every single one is from Canada with no American warranty?! It was somewhat pathetic when we were handed a window sticker that was completely in French. Also it was unfortunate when I knew more about the car then the saleswoman. After waiting over an hour for our sales person to "talk to her manager" about the cars price, we just got up and left. While I was very happy with Automax at first, I will tell you that the vehicle they sold me - a 2020 Ford Edge Titanium - causes me unending frustration with a vibration/rattling in the rear seat. I brought the car to Rodman Ford to be repaired and in the process learned that Automax's disclosures to me regarding accidents is FALSE - the vehicle has actually been driven over a curb. I am now stuck with an INCESSANT vibration and rattling coming from the rear seat for the remainder of the life of this vehicle. Working with Vinnie on getting a Jeep with my daughter and told him we would get our own financing since they were offering high 5%. Told Vinnie we were looking for something closer to 4%. He said we would never get that, to which I replied I just got that for another vehicle. His response was that the only reason I got that low rate was because my HUSBAND co-signed with me. I walked out. Glad to say we got a newer Jeep with less miles somewhere else and they offered us even a lower percentage rate than what i got with my husband. I was so irritated with my car purchasing experience that it's taken more than a year to get this review finished. Utter nightmare. I didn't bother to read these reviews because they had the exact car that I wanted, and boy did I regret it. To start, they're overpriced. Do your research with comparables in the area and bring print outs. They'll bend if you're firm and knowledgeable about prices. These aren't trade in's that they blather on about ("oh this car was turned in by a police officer and it was well cared for!"). They come straight from auction and that means they haven't been driven in quite some time and need work before you can drive it off the lot. Think you get to take that car home today?! Noooo way. More like 2-3 months for me. I even tried to back out of the purchase after not being able to reach a manager for days. Oh that manager who made you a promise? He no longer works here or was transferred to another location, we aren't really sure bc employee turnover is insane. The only good thing to come from my purchase was that I was so irritated about not getting any information on the status of a vehicle that I was insuring and didn't even have in my possession, that I demanded to see it at the offsite shop they sent it to for repairs. The shop was amazing and gave me an honest rundown of the vehicle's condition. I actually still use this shop today as my mechanic. When I inquired about why the car was taking so long to fix, they informed me that auto max hadn't yet approved the work. More than a month after I sat in that tiny room signing loan paperwork with the finance manager they hadn't even approved the work on the car that I paid for. What a joke. I fought tooth and nail to get automax to pay for a rental car until the work was finished. Turns out when I went to pick up the rental, they have an account with enterprise that allows them cheap rates and have to do this regularly (the manager I dealt with made it seem like this was a HUGE favor and they never have these kinds of issues). Their onsite "shop" only does simple cosmetic repairs, oil changes and what they consider "a full detail" (more like a half-assed cleaning). For anything else, they outsource the work. Just a dishonest place that keeps you waiting and could care less about your concerns once you've signed on the dotted line. Don't bother buying from these people. Just order the car you want from CarMax - you know the place with popular name and logo that they hope you confuse them with. And if you DO decide to buy a car here, roll up your sleeves because it's going to mean hard work and loads of unreturned phone calls to get it. Lastly, DON'T BUY THE WARRANTY. Drove a $50k vehicle off their lot only to have a transmission failure after 2 days. They refused to take responsibility even though it was in the lemon law window. Fortunately I purchased a 3rd party warranty, but even then, had to pay the deductible out of pocket without reimbursement. The mechanical problems persist even though Automax assures their "thorough 300 point inspection." Paid extra to have them run my registration, which they lied about and left me with an illegal vehicle for 2 weeks. Well, I have yet to have this happen before but I'm thankful that it did because it got us out of there and what was most likely a bad deal, or maybe just bad people. We are pre-approved for a loan from USAA almost double the price of the car we are looking to buy. It has an excellent APR on a 60 month loan which reflects our excellent credit rating. I have the loan paperwork which the dealership basically just has to fill in the VIN and price and then Fax, or email to USAA and they wire them them the money on Monday, basically 1 business day. However this dealership tried to push us into their financing by saying we have to do it through them and then refi with USAA, or we have to get a physical check from USAA made out to the dealership for the car, or pay Cash right now. What is that? I have never seen a reputable dealership deny USAA financing, when i called USAA they said it was dishonest dealer tactics to try and force us into their in house financing at a significantly higher rate. So they could make a higher profit on the sale. USAA warned me that many dealers will list a car at a very good price but then try to make all the profit on the financing side with absurd APR, fees or up sell on scratch protections, warranties, service plans, etc... but if you don't want those they cant not sell to you so they make up strange policies like certain types of financing they don't accept or cash only, or it will take a week to detail etc... Basically everything changed with the dealer when USAA was brought into the situation. I detected some animosity possibly towards the South or maybe the military. Wilner, who owns New England AutoMax Inc., AutoMax Preowned Inc. and Auto Max Inc., will pay $925,000, which includes restitution to costumers, according to the state Attorney General's Office. AutoMax has locations on Rte. 9 in Framingham and on Maple Street in Marlborough. The Attorney General's Office filed the complaint last week in Middlesex Superior Court after an investigation that began due to several customer complaints. They said AutoMax hid information about the history, condition and origins of the cars it sold, as well as warranties that did not cover the actual vehicles. Complaints also accused the dealer of adding undisclosed fees to transactions. According to the complaint, AutoMax failed to disclose that cars were previously leased, rental vehicles or taxicabs, which is required by law. It also sold customers warranties for $3,000 that did not cover repairs for the cars they sold because they were manufactured for a foreign market. "AutoMax and its owner purposely kept their customers in the dark about the condition and history of the cars they sold and charged customers illegal and unnecessary fees," said Attorney General Maureen Healey. Had the plesure to do business with Sam and the manager David. I went in to test drive an Acura TSX but was not too impressed. Then I saw a TL and knew that was the car. There was a few scratches here and there on it but Sam assured me that they would take care of all that and anything else out of the ordinary so I could take it almost like new (aside from the miles). I did get a pre approved through my bank for an auto loan, but Sam guaranteed me that they could beat the apr . He was right, they beat it good. thanks to them I was able to walk out with an affordable monthly payment that wouldnt put a choke hold on my finances, anything different and it might had been a tough situation. Any other place I might have had to walk out but they insisted in making my experience a great one. So I decided on a whim to replace my Dodge Challenger with a Mercedes C300. Well okay, certain people didn't really like my sexy hot rod and when I was single it brought more old men to the yard than women. But I digress... They had one of the lowest prices I found for the C300 and it looked brand new, so I think I got a bargain of sorts. After one extra visit to the sales manager, my salesperson got me close to full trade in value according to KBB for my Challenger, even with some body damage. I liked how Ian was able to offer a test drive of every vehicle I was interested in, including the E-class and Lexus IS, and was relatively patient while I was getting a feel for things. There were a few things they need to improve - I picked up the car and the front wheels and real wheels had different tire sizes on them (as in the left front size was different than the right front size) but the service advisor got someone working on the car immediately since I had just purchased it. The appointment to pick up the car was delayed by half an hour, I believe my salesman was in the middle of a sale to someone else while I was supposed to be picking it up. That could have been handled a bit better, although he was apologetic. Overall it was better than my last purchase from a dealer. read more

I began my car search with AutoMax around March 7, 2011. They had two cars I was interested in. Living about 45 minutes from them, I called them to ask if they had the two cars in stock, and if I could test drive them. I spoke to an Ahmad (?!) I believe and it turned out to be a horrible experience. I explained I would like to come down for to test drive two cars, both around $15,000. He explained I could only do that if I was "committed to buying one." I told him I could not make a committment, but that I would definitely be buying a car in the next two weeks. I said if I like the cars, 1 that I had seen on their website for 4+ weeks, I would put a downpayment on it. He said I could only test-drive if I committed to buying it. I asked, "what if I test drive it and I don't like it?" He said, "You can tell if you don't like a car by looking at it." I explained I was all set, I didn't need sales pressure. He said "these cars don't last long and they go fast" -- to which I responded, "this car has been on your site for at least 4 weeks." I'm in the market for a new car and I found a Jeep Patriot on TrueCar at this dealership I liked. We get to the dealership, walk in and are greeted by a man sitting at the desk in the front (green shirt and very green socks can't remember his name). We chat about the car and he says he's going to pull it up front. The manager comes over (we believe his name is Danny) shakes our hand and tells us a guy actually went out to get money to pay for the car, but they don't accept deposits so I'm totally fine to look at it/test drive it and buy it if I'm first. Okay weird but fine we took a look. Car is fine, not in as good condition as it was said to be online but whatever. We ask to test drive and he takes my license to make a copy. He comes back about 5 minutes later and goes "you know the guy is coming back with a check for this car." I ask if I can still test drive it (IM HERE I DROVE 45 MINUTES BROUGHT MY DAD LIKE COME ON). He replies "we'd rather not have you drive the car." I WAS LIVID. as was my dad. I told him I had confirmed the appointment literally 45 minutes prior. He had nothing to say. So I played along I hope that the Dealer was just messing around so I continued with the financing for a test drive in the car and I like the car but there were many problems with it starting off with a very bad start the car did not start think I have to jump start the car when I asked why he said because it's been sitting there for a long time. Then the windshield wipers were torn and cut apart. Then the brakes could not even stop the car which is really dangerous. Then the shocks played a role in here. You can feel every little tiny pot hole there is. Then I told him about these issues and said he'll fix all of them. Called dealership two days later and they couldn't find it and told me to submit it again. I did. They couldn't find that one, either. I sent a few emails that went unanswered. AutoMax Pre-Owned in Framingham, MA is the most disorganized, discourteous, and unprofessional organization I have ever had the misfortune to receive service from. We walked in to the dealership WITH THE LOAN PRE-APPROVED and knew EXACTLY which car we wanted. We didn't even need to take it on a test drive (even though we did, for about half of a mile). The car was sold when we walked in, and they were STILL able to disappoint us. If you told me that I had a choice between buying another vehicle from AutoMax and being locked in solitary confinement while being subjected to constant light and a loop of the marching cadence used by the flying monkeys from "Wizard of Oz"...I'd buy the box and the speakers myself. RUN..THESE PEOPLE WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! These people are noting more than thieves and liars. Talk about a horrible experience...a friend of mine purchased a vehicle from these people and was shown a clean car fax report stating the vehicle was never in any type of accident, only to discover that when he took the vehicle in for routine maintenance at the local Ford dealership that the warranty had been voided due to a significant front end collision.The parts were replaced with aftermarket pieces which in turn had voided the factory warranty. In addition, Pat, the general manager acted like a complete dick towards the entire situation when confronted about the situation offering virtually no resolution. Honestly, I think the vehicle has been in more times for repair than on the road. Take a look in the back of the dealership and you'll see several damaged vehicles in which I'm sure will be pieced together to sell. There's a reason these vehicles are priced so low, it's because many have been in collisions or have been patched up. If your thinking of going in there to buy a vehicle, do yourself a favor and take it in to make sure the car is on the up and up. Also, DON'T PAY IN CASH! Purchase the vehicle on a credit contract...that way you have more leverage with these morons in case they try to pull a fast one with you too. ***PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS DEALERSHIP*** I know true used car dealerships get a bad rap but this place takes it to the next level. Long story short, they wouldnt sell me the car without financing through them (illegal, I know this and they know this). I went out there and tried to trade my car in and buy an Audi, they "couldnt" execute the deal without getting the general managers approval on increasing my trade-in amount so I had to wait until the following Monday to get a final answer. Monday comes around and I hear nothing, than I had to call 3 times and finally reached someone on Wednesday. I wanted the car and at first I thought it was a good deal. I am not going to go on a huge rant but long story short, they finally let me use outside financing but the caveat was that they increased the cost of the vehicle. They wouldn't let me buy the car unless I bought GAP insurance (I have All-State and that covers the GAP) and they also said it was mandatory to buy the 36mo -36k mile warranty package. They prey on people that have a hard time getting a loan and jack you on the interest rates, I was approved at 2.1% from my own financing and when they said I had to buy the car through their financing it was at 4.7% (it was at the same bank!). They have lower prices than any other dealership in New England but how do they make money?? They make their money on interest rates and warranties which in fact was full of disclaimers (They have minimal coverage and I can only go Automax). Do your homework before going into this place. Its only a matter of time until restrictions come down on places like that but dont go in there and think you are getting a deal!!! If you have to get a higher interest rate to buy a car, go in there and get approved by a lender then use that approval and go buy a car private sale or another location. I received a call back from one of their sales guys, when I pressed for service and history detail on the car I wanted, the guy became irate, raise his voice and then hung up. Another reason to avoid these people. Someone else contact me about a car, they were polite and said the 30K car was in excellent condition. I told them excellent means no nicks, scratch or flaw, if I pay the 500 for shipping and the car has flaws I will demand a refund for misrepresentation. They said I because someone else was doing the shipping... My advise, You're better of buying from eBay, they're more reputable, and CarMax prices is far too expensive for used auction cars with no history....buy from local MA seller. read more
