Went with my son, a humble young man who's a vegan, completely eats organic, does yoga, loves his…read moredog, etc..all around cool guy and we were trying to find him a car at Nissan/Capitol Auto Group in Salem, Oregon. My son had been working and saving his money. Then, I'd help him out a bit, too. He found a used Subaru (#1 safety, nice color, great car for dogs, Subaru really supports dogs (pets), etc... and we liked this Subaru at the Nissan/Capitol Auto Group dealership. The car was not even listed on their website and was in the lot of trade-ins (with 75+ other trade-in cars) in a lot behind the Subaru dealership. So, I helped negotiate with finance guy #1 for $15k for this Subaru car and only if he agreed at $15k would we then take the car to an independent mechanic (AJ's Auto who are great guys!) to be mechanically inspected. Finance guy #1 agreed to the $15k and we dropped the car at the AJ's auto mechanic for approx. 4 hours which cost my son $170.00. Later in the evening, we picked the car up from the AJ's auto and drove the Subaru back over to Nissan/Capitol Auto Group dealership. My son really excited thinking he'd be driving his car home that evening, his 1st good decent car with good safety and was mechanically good...a car he would be using for several years to drive back and forth to work (Amazon) while he continued his college (studying Ayurvedic Medicine as he says, so he might help others in the world) Upon arriving at the Nissan/Capitol Auto Group dealership were met with finance guy #2 (no idea where finance guy # 1 was) and finance guy # 2 says to us that the price of the Subaru was now $17,500.00 and not the $15,000.00 originally agreed upon and that had been earlier negotiated. Increasing the price by $2500.00. Smh! WTH! I was livid! My son's spirit now broke. I spoke loudly telling the finance guy #2, that he should be ashamed of himself and what a terrible shady thing to do to this kid! I continued to tell finance guy #2 that not only did my son waste his time at the Nissan dealership/Capitol Auto Group, that the dealership lied and my son was now out his $170.00 auto inspection that he paid. (They finally reimbursed my son the $170.00) So, while we still haven't found my son a solid and dependable car, I'm telling this story so you all can be aware of the extremely shady practices of Capitol Auto Group and their dealerships. No integrity whatsoever. I will not now or ever be recommending any dealership owned by Capitol Auto Group and certainly never recommending the Nissan dealership in Salem, Oregon. their website says, Hard lesson learned for us at 100%...

They left my pregnant sister in law waiting for almost 1 1/2 - 2 hours waiting becuase they messed up and then tried to cover up their mistake. Then when we went to pick up the vehicle the next day, the girl in service said "oh you're here to get the car that won't start. It's the one our back with the window down." Hopefully nothing was stolen when they left it outside with the window down. Stay away. Drive to Wilsonville or anywhere but this place... you've been warned...

Additionally, Jasmyn did a terrific job sourcing and coordinating the installation of the accessories I wanted for my vehicle in a timely fashion, and Carli was great to work with in the finance office, helping to make the paperwork quick and painless. Everyone did their part to make sure my new vehicle was in flawless shape and ready for me the day I arrived for pickup. Overall despite me being from out of town, the folks at Capitol Toyota went above and beyond to treat me right, they never put a foot wrong and there were no pushy sales tactics or shady nonsense. Whether you're local to Salem or out of state, Billy and the rest of the staff at Capitol Auto Group are hands down the people to see if you want a pleasant, hassle-free car buying experience! I am a repeat customer and recently purchased my second vehicle from VW of Salem. I knowingly paid…read morea bit more than I might have in a private sale because the team seemed kind and the process was convenient. I also purchased the extended warranty and an additional aftermarket product for peace of mind. The car was described as having been "babied" by the previous owner and came with a 60-day dealer warranty, so I felt comfortable moving forward. About a month later, the check engine light came on. I wasn't overly concerned since the vehicle was under warranty. Unfortunately, I was then told the car needed new ignition coils, spark plugs, and a full carbon cleaning. Only the coils were covered. The rest were labeled "maintenance items" and not included under warranty. When I asked whether those maintenance issues could realistically have developed within five weeks of ownership, I was told no. While they discounted the repair to about $1,000, that's still an additional $1,000 expense less than 60 days after purchasing the vehicle. Given the circumstances, I had hoped they might make an exception to stand behind the car and retain a loyal customer. That did not happen. Additionally, with my previous vehicle (also purchased here and unfortunately totaled), I attempted multiple times to cancel the extended warranty. I was repeatedly redirected by phone. I eventually went in person, completed paperwork, and was told to email additional documents, which I did on 12/17. After hearing nothing for six weeks, I followed up and was told delays were normal. When I finally contacted Volkswagen directly, I learned the dealership had never submitted the cancellation paperwork. I am still waiting on a $2,000 refund. The initial sales experience both times was genuinely pleasant, which makes this even more disappointing. I knowingly paid more than I would have in a private sale because I valued convenience, professionalism, and peace of mind. Instead, I've spent countless hours following up on repairs, tracking down warranty information, going back and forth with staff, and ultimately having to contact Volkswagen directly to get basic paperwork processed. The extra money I paid for "convenience" has been more than offset by the time, stress, and frustration caused by poor follow-through. These folks are your best friends until the sale is made - after that everything changes. Between the unexpected repair costs just weeks into ownership and the failure to submit my warranty cancellation for months, I no longer feel confident in this dealership's commitment to standing behind what they sell. One star only because the purchasing experience itself was smooth. Trust is everything when buying a vehicle, and unfortunately mine was lost. I will be taking my business elsewhere, even if it means traveling farther, and I strongly encourage others to protect themselves with an independent pre-purchase inspection before buying a used car here.

She…read morehad the curves, the shine, the kind of allure that makes you stop thinking and start believing. Except the first time I met her in a PNW downpour the windshield wiper flapped uselessly like a limp handshake. Replacing the wipers was contractual. Basic safety. A correction to meet the State's prim-and-proper dress code. Still met with a laissez-faire attitude. When I picked her up, her glasses were still broken. I took the fix into my own hands--parts shop on the way home, a couple of tenners, a little elbow grease, done. Next up, the key fob. The emergency key was missing, the kind of detail that only matters when it matters. I brought it up, like an old lover who still believes a wrong turn should end with a nightcap and an apology. Instead, it turned from good cop to bad cop faster than a red carpet turns into a doormat. Then Murphy made a house call. The battery went low. She wouldn't let me in, like a partner who caught me gambling with the rent money. I used my one free call to get a locksmith to bail me out. Time and money burned on something promised on the first date. Next the check engine light blinked into life like it couldn't wait to hand me a bill and a lecture. Still loyal, I went back to them instead of the brand shop off the two one seven. One tip slipped across the bar after another. Reassurance she was safe to take out on the town without having to constantly look over my shoulder. It was just a false trail that kept circling back to the same code I heard on the scanner from day one. I was being led on a wild goose chase and suspected I was the stuffing. After months of silence and no new leads I picked up the phone to reopen the case, like a jilted ex dialing a number I know I shouldn't. The witnesses had "left." The records were "tied up." I was told the specifics about the prior investigation were withheld for "legal reasons." It read like the old standards had left the building, and she'd taken her charm with her. Trusting my first instinct, I took the old girl to the brand shop, the place that spoke her native tongue. They handed me the facts. No passing the buck. No song and dance. Workmanship you could hang your hat on. I'd finally gotten the full meal deal, but I'd lost my wallet in the process. I figured I'd give Freeman one last chance to make things right. I'd played this scene before, back when deals were clean and handshakes meant something. Back then, I had a number in my head and they hit it like a sharpshooter. This time it was a slow middle school dance on a wet gym floor, and every step felt wrong. The numbers didn't add up, even the Kelly Blue Boys gave me the kind of look you save for a three-card monte table. Sure, I could take a bruising, but I hadn't signed up to get rolled. The relationship ended with a love letter that read like a case file, our entire history laid out in black and white, followed by a reply that never came. Freeman was a name I'd trusted since I was a rookie twenty years back, the door I knocked on when I wanted a fair and honest deal, the place I sent friends, family, and associates. Somewhere along the way, it seemed they traded the Freeman name for the Saul Goodman Sunday Special. In this town, some places sell you a promise the way a magician sells you a trick. You watch the shine. You miss the move. I gave them every chance to play it straight, but instead I got a different story each time, ended up with the bills, and found myself alone in the rain without an umbrella. Ragged, like a mark who realized the gig too late, I closed the file, because sometimes that's the only win you get. Take a walk. Don't look back. The rain will wash the footprints away.
