Crescent Repair Center was able to work me in at 9am Saturday morning and Jack was very nice, patient and thoughtful about educating me on what I asked to learn, and was very knowledgable. Much to my surprise, they said they could work me in and asked if I wanted to leave the car. Since I rely on my vehicle, I readily agreed. They called me not too long after to tell me that my clutch was kaput. Ouch. They gave me an estimate and I said I had to check to see if I could pull the money together for the repairs. As it turned out, I could and they went to work. They essentially had the work completed *and* threw in a diagnosis of another problem the vehicle has and added a quote for that work... and also did an oil and air filter change. And they were under budget for what they quoted me. I have always been treated fairly at Trottner's -- some other places will try to "put one over" on a woman who goes in by herself, but not this place. They are honest, they are fair and in this case, they were VERY prompt in taking care of the issue... even though I arrived unexpectedly. I feel like they may be a tad more expensive than other places (I haven't done the research to confirm that though!), but if they are, it's 100% worth knowing that I'm not going to be taken for unnecessary repairs -- and that, to me, is worth its weight in gold!

I was referred to Barrett by another local shop that spoke very highly of them, and I see why! From first contact, Mark was incredibly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. They connected directly with the previous technician that worked on my car to gain repair insight, pool resources, and solve my transmission issue within just a couple days! I was impressed by their level of expertise, professionalism, and care to help me get back on the road quickly. Repair technician Brad broke down what happened for me in a way that I could understand and clarified next steps. Barrett Transmission was fantastic to work with. They offered direct communication, went above and beyond to quickly diagnose issues, and gave an accurate repair timeline. Barrett totally exceeded my expectations and provided excellent repair work. The truck had 830,000…read moremiles on it when they serviced the Aisin Transmission, which is the original and never rebuilt. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

I took it back to Unlimited Service, and they told me that because I was just within my 2 year warranty, they would take it apart and fix it for free (at least all of the components they had worked on, 23 months ago). I did not know that I had a 2 year warranty (I thought it was more along the lines of 90 days or $90). They had to remove and disassemble the battery again, replace some cells, and rebalance things - no trivial task. That was all covered by the warranty (yay)! Unfortunately, I've had a really distasteful experience just recently and am therefore going elsewhere for my future auto service needs. I called to schedule a service appointment requesting three items be addressed: install new headlight assembly (with the new part that I provided), fix front passenger door lock that had stopped working (actuator replacement), and oil change, and I was given a quote for this work. During the work, they called me and told me that I also needed a new PCV valve, which would add $173.39 to the cost, which I approved. When I went to pick up my vehicle, they hadn't addressed the door lock issue at all and said that they could offer me a quote for that. However, they had already quoted me for that, which is why my vehicle was there to begin with! In the end, they charged me the full amount without having replaced the actuator. As I look at other reviews, I see I'm not the first to have had this experience with Sterling. Lastly, when I called around about getting the door lock fixed elsewhere, it was much cheaper than the additional amount they were wanting. If you are going to go with Sterling, I would highly recommend you get *everything* in writing, even if the conversation on the phone is as clear as day. Otherwise, all you're going to hear is "oops, sorry for your misunderstanding."
