I purchased a truck and the moment I took it off the lot I took it to my mechanic for an oil change only to be called back because it had major issues totaling more than $2,500. I immediately AUTOSPOT LLC and was not able to speak to anyone for over a week, all this time the truck was sitting in a mechanic shop. I left several messages for STEVE and no call back, I finally reached my salesman who said he would pass on the messages only to have 7 days go by with no call backs. On the seventh day I received a call from a manager saying that there was nothing they would do. I do understand business and that it was "as-is" but AUTOSPOT LLC's advertising states that all vehicles are inspected by their service department which means they knew about these issues and choose not to divulge them. I gave them many options to help try and resolve this, including returning the vehicle and purchasing another from their lot but they flat out refused. Our sales person Abdul was great but that's where the good stops. I bought the car as is on 3/9. Yesterday 4/9 it died. My mechanic just looked at it and it needs a new alternator and timing belt which is going to run me $550. Happy 1 month anniversary car! On top of selling me a car that looks great but had issues they sent out the title late and I ended up having to pay a $25 late fee when registering the car. BUYER BEWARE! I don't normally write on-line reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience to save you the trouble. I recently purchased a vehicle from the Mountain Lakes location and there were two main reasons that I wouldn't purchase another vehicle from any Auto Spot location again. 1) The advertised prices are not real. Auto Spot posts low prices to get you in the door. HOWEVER their "package" fee can add a significant cost on top of the advertised price. The vehicle that I purchased was advertised for $13,000 which they wanted to add over $1800 of fees to ($14,800 is almost 15% higher than the posted $13,000). I was able to negotiate a lower price, but still paid much more than I had hoped after seeing the vehicle advertised on their website. 2) They will tell you that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle you are purchasing. However, you are out of luck if there is any major issue. While driving home I realized that the AC was not working properly. After I had the car inspected and checked out it had a leak that required a $2,000 repair. I was given a corporate email when I contacted Auto Spot complaining about the issue. When I detailed my concerns I got an email back from Steven Hernandez that said that the issue was not covered under the 3 month warranty that they provide and "we apologize for the inconvenience". I went to the Garfield location, to purchase a pickup truck that I saw listed on True Car. I was assigned to Ronald a sales person. The truck I came to see wasn't what I was looking for. They had many plane pickup trucks, so I decided to test drive one. I chose a Ford F150 XL. It did have an exhaust leak. That needed to be fixed. STAY AWAY!!! The salesperson (Garfield location) assured us that the car we were considering was free from significant rust on the undercarriage, and that they make sure all their cars are safe to drive before selling them. The day after we bought the car, we brought it to our mechanic. While driving the car, the hood of the car flew open due to a defective hood latch, cracking the windshield. Our mechanic put the car on his lift and immediately saw that the gas tank was leaking (and had already been patched once before), the brake lines were rusted out and rotted, the rotors were rusted out, and the hood latch was broken. He said that the car was unsafe to drive, wouldn't pass NYS inspection, and should have been junked rather than sold in this condition. We sent pictures and the mechanic's report to Auto Spot and asked them to take the car back. The manager said he would review them and get back to us. Since then, our calls and emails go unreturned. They are lucky nobody was killed when driving this car. If that happens -- I should say WHEN that happens, based on the other reviews -- these people will be facing manslaughter charges. I bought a car from AutoSpot. The price was good, and I made the mistake of buying the car without first bringing it to a mechanic. I knew new tires were needed, and I expected several issues would have to be resolved over time, but I did not expect a dangerous situation. It turns out that the car suffers from two serious problems. The right hub and bearing assembly was completed rusted out. Among other things, this could prevent the antilock breaks from engaging. Also, the undercarriage is dangerously rusted. I need to have a mechanic look at it every month or so to let me know that I that it is not too risky to drive the car. I understand that the car did not come with a warranty and that I bought it as is. But human decency requires informing someone of dangerous conditions. In my opinion, AutoSpot will one day be convicted of involuntary manslaughter. There's more. AutoSpot somehow informed EZPass that I received the paper plates a week before I bought the car. The plates were used to cross a few bridges in the trig-state area several times. I received a notice of violations with threats of massive fines. I am dealing with EZPass now to prove that I didn't have the plates at the time. Finally, AutoSpot was very late in sending my the title documents. I was forced to drive for a few days with expired paper plates. I feel that AutoSpot is at best engaged in highly unethical behavior and at worst is operating a criminal enterprise. read more

My son came home from college and he needed a used car ASAP to start his new job. In upstate New York where I live, there is a shortage of used cars due to covid, so I drove to NJ which seemed to have a lot more used car dealers with large inventories to choose from. One of those places, was Auto Spot LLC in South Hackensack NJ. When I got to Auto Spot LLC, I was pleased to see a huge selection of all types of cars, including the kind my son was looking for, that were in his price range. I asked the salesman why they had so many and he said it was because they were not a typical used car dealer, rather they were a wholesaler who buys cars "AS IS". That should have been enough to scare us off, but after months of looking for a used car, we were desperate. We looked at about five small 4WD SUVs that were in my son's price range and settled in on a black 2009 Kia Sportage with 129,000 miles listed at $4000. The salesman was somewhat sketchy and used all his tricks to try and convince us to sign. We spent up to 2 hours there, took two test rides on local roads, inspected it as much as we could, (engine, exterior, interior and as much as we could see underneath when laying on the ground). In addition, the car had clean Carfax. Against our better judgement, we reluctantly agreed to sign and hoped for the best. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made. First it started with the price, what was $4000 turned into $5900 due to a bunch of bogus fees they failed to tell us about up front. When I said no deal, well they miraculously were able to do us the great favor of knocking off $1400 of those fees. We agreed to buy the car at $4500. I understood that I bought the car "AS IS" and I expected to have put some upfront money on things like brakes, tires, etc. I did not suspect that a business would sell me a car that my mechanic told me the next day was actually dangerous, and we were lucky to make it home. All the damage was underneath, pretty much the entire suspension needed be replaced - estimated fix of $4200. Those were issues that could actually be fixed, however one issue that could not be fixed was the cracked frame near the left rear axle. It would just be a matter of time before that was going to go and the axle would completely disconnect from the car. This car was never going to pass NY safety inspection, even if I put in the additional money to try and fix it. When I called Auto Spot to see if they would do the right thing and refund at least some of the money, they basically said "the car was purchased AS IS and that I should have brought my mechanic with me to look at it before buying". It turns out, when they say "AS IS", they mean they do not even put these cars up on lift. They basically just do as much as they can to make the cars look ok and to get the cars through the test rides and off the lot. After making this mistake, I did check some other Yelp reviews and found others who had similar experiences, they bought dangerous vehicles that should never be allowed to be on the road. And this is why they have such a large inventory, because no reputable used car dealers would actually buy and sell these cars to the general public. Auto Spot is NOT a reputable dealer and as someone else wrote in their review, "it's just a matter of time before Auto Spot LLC will be facing manslaughter charges". I do not know how they sleep at night after taking the savings from young students such as my son, and then knowingly allow them to put their lives at risk. Upon getting the power steering pump replaced our mechanic found a hole in the catalytic converter. NJ is one of those states that still inspects cars so had to replace that. I don't know how all the salesmen are but this rude Arabic guy name Anas is a big-time scammer, a lire, and a hustler. He posts ads for nice cars with a really good price on CarGuru and other websites that he doesn't have but pretends that he does till you're 5 min away from the location and he calls and tells you that "someone is standing right here with the cash on their hand and buying the car so would you be interested in buying another car". Mind you, I called him when I left my house, I called him while I got in NJ, I talked to him even when I was 15 min away but he didn't say anything. I even asked if the car is in good condition and he said "Yes, it's sitting here waiting for you" Now, if you're driving from another state and paid tolls and wasted 2 hours of your life getting there, you would be sad and mad like me. I tried to complain to the manager but it seemed like he was in it too. I didn't ask for his name but he was either Mexican or Ecuadorian or somewhere in that part of the world. We trusted that we were being treated with honesty. I went to this facility with my wife and daughter to buy my daughter a SAFE car for college. The salesman showed us several cars...one that we noted had been spray painted to cover rust. We pointed this out and this should have been our WARNING SIGN number 1, NOT TO DEAL with such a place. However, they suggested what looked like a nice Jeep Compass for my daughter to test drive. When I opened the hood, I noticed the plastic decorative engine cover was off and in the back of the Jeep. I replaced it myself before letting my daughter take it for a test drive...this should have been WARNING SIGN number 2! However, the answer from the salesman made sense so we proceeded. He went with us on the test drive which was on local roads and the vehicle handled okay. There was a door arm rest cover missing on the passenger side which we noted but discussed with him about just finding an after-market replacement. He DID NOT TELL US that the window actually DID NOT WORK! We made a reasonable offer on the vehicle and they told us that this offer negated the warranty. WARNING SIGN number 3! As my wife and daughter were driving this vehicle home on the highway, it was misfiring and had a large hitch in the acceleration. We delivered it right to our local, honest and trustworthy mechanic. A day later I received a call regarding the $3,500 to $4,000 worth of REPAIRS NECESSARY TO EVEN HAVE THIS VEHICLE PASS INSPECTION due to major mechanical issues that are not visible to a buyer without full mechanical inspection!! WE WERE TAKEN...IN FACT, WE THEN FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD JUST COME OFF AUCTION WITH KNOWN ISSUES!! NONE OF WHICH WERE OUTLINED TO US BY AUTO SPOT SALES OR MANAGEMENT...!
