We bought a 2019 Honda Pilot from this used car dealership. It took them almost six weeks to send us the NY registration. Without which we couldn't have the car inspected. We finally received the registration after a month and a half, and several phone calls. We then found out that the vehicle has cracked control arms, and three tires which couldn't pass basic safety inspection. One of the tires went flat, and the battery died, requiring a replacement. We notified Auto Spot and their General Manager eventually offered only $1620.00 to pay for tires, control arms, a PVC valve and spark plugs. Additionally, it has since been discovered that the vehicle has a defective transmission which needs to be replaced at a cost of $9,000.00. The 90 day warranty will only cover $2900.00 for the transmission. Auto Spot refuses to pay anymore than $1620.00. in spite of the fact that they fraudulently represented the condition of the car when they sold it to us. We have registered complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and The State of New Jersey Attorney General' s Office of Consumer Affairs. We are also seeking legal help for a potential law suit. I made an appointment two days in advance to view and test drive a vehicle. I also inquired about the window sticker, and they could not provide it to me. I drove for many hours through traffic between 3 states to get there. When I was about 30 minutes from arriving, I received a message from the sales representative stating that the vehicle was in the mechanic shop and they asked if I wanted to check out other inventory. As soon as I received that text message, I called the sales rep to find out what was going on... the call was transferred to the rep's line and then disconnected. I called again and the 2nd person could not confirm that the vehicle was on the lot. I arrived, and the sales rep that I was working with handed me off to their coworker. I asked several times about what happened to the vehicle, but I couldn't get a straight answer. Finally the sales rep returns and I ask her, and she states that she heard a clunkering noise, that they reported it to her manager, and they had to bring it to the mechanic. I told them that I drove far and for several hours and that I had planned to view the vehicle and test drive it before purchasing. I told them that I can drive to their mechanic shop to view it and get the details. The other sales rep said it was 2-3 miles down the road. I told them I can drive there. 2-3 miles is pretty simple compared to having already driven 100s miles to get to dealer. That same rep asked if I wanted to view other inventory. I told him NO, and that I was only interested in that vehicle. After all of this nonsense, it turns out to be what someone would call a classic bait-n-switch. Stop lying to customers, insisting that theft insurance is required. I haven't bought a car in a while, so I wasn't sure of what was needed and what was not. At the point of sale I provided proof of full coverage insurance which included full replacement of the car if it was stolen. The dealership is geared towards people with bad credit so they take advantage of their desperation to get approved. In my case, we paid cash for the vehicle. Wasted 6.5 hours of my time and about $40 in gas. The salesperson was not honest about the condition of the vehicle I was interested in. I had explained I had a long distance to travel and wanted to be sure the vehicle was in as good condition as it appeared in the website pictures. I was assured the pictures accurately portrayed the condition of the car. Unfortunately, after a 2.5-hour drive, I was disappointed to find the car condition was not as pictured. There were scratches, dings, and even a missing door handle part that could not easily be seen in the pictures. They have a great photographer! Last spring I considered buying a car from Auto Spot but wanted to come back on a different day to take it for a used car evaluation at Pep Boys. The salespeople pressured me, saying they couldn't guarantee that the car would still be here in a week and I could put down a deposit to hold it. I insisted the deposit be refundable, and after some resistance they agreed. I had the manager (RAY PERALTA!!!!) sign the deposit paperwork myself so they couldn't negate the refund. When I decided not to buy the car, I tried for 2 months to get the salesperson to process the refund over the phone/remotely (I paid with a credit card) and after lying to me for awhile saying it was being processed and it never was, then fed me all kinds of BS about why he couldn't do it remotely and said we had to come in to swipe our card. We lived 2 hours away from Auto Spot and didn't have a car at the time so this wasn't easy to do. We were in the area 2 weeks ago and finally went by with our signed refund paperwork and credit card receipt from the transaction. After making us wait for a half hour, Ray finally sat down with us and BS'ed us some more, saying Auto Spot has changed their credit card company and he couldn't provide a check refund until he had "verified this transaction with the owner" and insisted he would call me within 3 days. When he never called, I called him and, surprise surprise, he wasn't able to "verify this transaction".This is despite him having our deposit slip, signed by himself, a copy of our credit card receipt, and a copy of my credit card statement reflecting the transaction. About what I expected in the way of a dealer, very friendly all the way through but things get a bit rocky when it gets down to business. Autospot was the last stop after searching for the vehicle I wanted. The salesmen/dealer who I'd been in contact with was pleasant on the phone, with his emails and in person. He eagerly talked up the vehicle and answered questions I had about it. So far so good but when now we start negotiating, for the first time I'd seen at a dealer with all the other "fees" the car came out to be almost $1500 more than the list price! Heads up guys you're supposed to decrease the price in order to move the car. Clearly its about money at this point. We go back and forth with the "authorization fee" and "documentation fee" and whatever else he pulled out and settled on a price. Even after that we had to negotiate the inclusion of a replaced windshield that they wanted to charge for! It was badly cracked. They turned around and did it in a couple short hours and we made a deal which was good. The location is right off of Rt. 17 and huddled together with several other dealers which makes the area a bit congested, so if you go -- ask one of the dealers to park in a bay. So is it worth it? I'd say yes. Go ready to haggle and sniff out nonsense they try to get over on. Someone knowledgeable about cars or sales is a plus but just have your wits about you and dont be too quick to answer yes about everything. Took it for a test drive (in hindsight, at first was surprised we stuck to slower speed roads, now that makes sense) and it was ok. Inspected it after and saw there was a big bubble in one of the front tires. The tires were so worn they wouldn't pass inspection anyway. The car also had a musty odor (more on that later). When I said 'if you take off $300 for tires, I'll take it.' The salesman said 'that's impossible and I'll show you why' and proceeded to write a bunch of numbers on a piece of paper that raised the price by at least $2,000. Total BS charges including the scam 'warranty.' I got angry for having my time entirely wasted and someone came over, a type of manager, and he literally laughed at me and said 'did you really believe you were going to pay the price listed?' I pretty much stormed out. Felt more like walking away from a fistfight. While driving home I started thinking that possibly I was overreacting, so I pulled over and started reading the reviews. Among the reviews (which are all one star except for a few fake ones), someones mentions that the cars smell funny because they buy cars that have been in floods at auction. This also explains the amount of rust that seems to be an issue on many of the cars they sell. TLDR: Not a car dealer... a lemon dealer... Would 0 star if I could. STAY AWAY! Auto Spot is not a trustworthy dealership and I would highly recommend to avoid this dealership unless its your last option.... even then expect the car to only last 30 minutes before it starts to break down. (2) Has the alternator and battery been checked? Answer to question1 : Yes we check the cars here and make sure they are ready for the customers Answer to question2: Yes its running very well the battery is only a couple months old. 30 minutes after leaving the lot with the car I purchased, still on the commute back, the check charging system light came on prompting me to go get it checked. Within the hour I was at a mechanic having it tested. The alternator was only pumping out 12.05v to charge the battery which is not enough to maintain the battery and probably required them to jump my car to even sell it to me. I was able to get them on the phone any time I had a question before I purchased the car. After I purchased the car I might as well have been put on a blocked call list. Took 4 days and 9 calls to their site to get a call back to say they wont take liability for the fraudulent business practices they actively participate in. Avoid this dealer and do not support them. This post may come off as though I'm sounding like a Karen. Maybe... but I wanted to like this dealer and I was even willing to split the repair price for the broken alternator but it is obvious the second the check clears they never want to hear from you again. Also, the transline that they fixed, they just welded it up, they never replaced it. Also they said our plates were included in the price and they werent. The lied about it and only provided me with temporary plates. My wife will be home and now we are stuck with this car and she is across the world livid. So beware......we have made a compliant with consumer affairs and BBB but reviews are most important because hopefully this saves the person reading this from ever stepping foot at this place of business. They cover themselves from all legality "lemon law, buyers remorse" by selling the cars "as is" but the reality is that these cars are extremely dangerous. The car I bought from these thieves (and that's on me -- I don't think I checked yelp! before going there) was, in fact, a Kia Soul, just not the model they advertised. Plus it is a rust bucket, but in places that couldn't be seen just by looking under the car. We had to replace the gas tank immediately; as soon as I filled it up, it started leaking. There are brake lines and gas lines that need to be replaced before winter. Our mechanic said that the dealer should never have allowed it to leave the lot. Hi Ray: I am writing to ask you, again, to PLEASE refund me the deposit I left for a car I decided not to purchase on June 1, 2022. I was in a bad car accident at the end of May, and was out of work for quite a few weeks with no money coming in so the loss of this deposit is actually an extreme financial hardship to me, on top of the total loss of my vehicle and loss of wages and a traumatic physical injury that I am still healing from. I am fully aware that I gave you the deposit voluntarily, but honestly Josh never told me it was nonrefundable and if he had, I never would have left it. The car was displaying a diagnostic code that was told to us to be something minor- but when we got home and conferred with an actual KIA dealer- they made us aware it could have been something much more significant than "just a spark plug" as we were advised. Not to mention- the vehicle had a very heavy mold/mildew smell which ultimately left a bad taste in my mouth- literally. I understand you sell these vehicles as is and I did not want to exhaust what little funds I have on something that would potentially need extensive repairs and definitely detailing. Yes I disputed the charge with my bank because I felt upset that we weren't given the "full story" about the vehicle. It wasn't meant to be shady in any way. Bought a 2008 crown victoria police interceptor that after one month of driving was basically coming apart. Had to get a ton of work done to the car after purchase and the only warranty offered at the sale of the car was warranty for the engine, transmission, and frame damage. The car was priced way above the average price of a crown vic. The car had no A/C but of course that was not told during sale. I would stay away from this used car spot they do not even know about the hundreds of cars they have they just buy used cars and hope someone would buy it. Originally I was happy with this dealership. A week later however I found out the car was grossly misrepresented, having numerous issues, which are costing me thousands of dollars. Buyer beware and always have a mechanic check out any car you are thinking of buying. My mistake and their shadiness cost me big time.
