After the tune up did not fix the issue, I was told my throttle body and MAP sensor needed to be replaced ($900). When they realized that didn't fix the issue, the told me I needed a new engine or to replace the cylinder head (quoted at $6,000+). At this point I told them to not do any further work and I went to retrieve my vehicle. At the time I went to get my car, I asked for them to show me my throttle body that was damaged, initially they were unable to show me the damage because they did not have it in their possession anymore and that NAPA auto parts store had it because it had a core charge on it. Well I went over to NAPA to ask if their new throttle body had a core charge and they told me there was no core charge on new throttle bodies only on refurbished ones. When I went back over to Al's Garage to ask to have the throttle body replacement chargers removed, they had no issue taking it off my bill but also "my" old throttle body magically reappeared and they put the old one back on my car. Well, I took my vehicle to get another diagnosed by 3 different mechanics, one being the actual Jeep dealership. All 3 mechanics came up with the same diagnosis and were unsure why they would do a tune up for my issue I was having. Other mechanics I spoke with as well, said in the situation if they provided me with a misdiagnosis and the problem wasn't fixed from their diagnosis they wouldn't keep charging me more to "test and check". I reached out to Al's Garage over the phone and spoke to a representative who had a very recognizable voice due to his accent. I asked if a manager was in while on the phone, and he said he did not know. I then asked if he knew who the owner was and again did not know. I then decided to return in person to speak with someone to find a resolution, the same guy who answered the phone, who referred to himself as Jerry, was there again. I explained the situation again, and he refused to work with me to find a resolution. I then asked for a business card and he refused to provide one and was initially reluctant to provide the name of the owner of the shop. It's unfortunate this situation is needing to come to this, but shops like this need to be put out of business to stop giving a bad rep for all the great mechanics and shops who are willing to do the right thing and not take advantage of costumers.

I've used this location of Chapel Hill Tire on multiple occassions. Most recently for lube service…read moreand requested a quote on a spark plug job on my Toyota. The good - the service writers are fairly friendly. The bad - pricing appears to be above market rates. The dealer wanted $700 for spark plug change - Chapel Hill Tire was $808 - I ended up getting the job done for $480+ tax up the road at another shop. They do not give you an invoice or paper receipt - so you can't look over the work performed at the time of pick up - they are "paperless" which is in my opinion bad business and bad for the consumer. Shifting the cost of a piece of paper on the customer is tacky, cheap, and unprofessional. They will email it to you. I also got a quote for tire installation - they charge $100 more if you provide the tires from a competitor or from Tire Rack. $118 if you purchase their tires; Over $200 if you use Tire Rack tires or provide your own $55/ wheel/tire. Based on all of this experience - I can't endorse Chapel Hill tire at this time. UPDATED REVIEW: 11/24/25 I had to return to Chapel Hill Tire on Franklin St because Discount Tire attempted to put new tires on my Tacoma on Friday. They were able to do 3 of the wheels and the 4th, a front right wheel would not come off because one of the lugnuts was driven on so tight, it broke their tools. Chapel Hill Tire was the last shop to rotate my wheels and tires - which is done on each oil change at 5,000 mile intervals beacause AT tires require this level of attention. This was performed in April 2025. I did not rotate the tires and wheels in September because I was replacing the tires. Unfortunately, now I am being charged $261.00 by Chapel Hill Tire to "fix" or remove the busted / stuck lugnut. This was completely avoidable had their technician in April not driven the lugnut on so tight. I really don't like impact wrenches but most shops use them because it saves time and cuts down their bottom line costs. I was also informed, to remove this lugnut "minimal scratching" will occur to the wheel - which is not great. If the scratching is at all visible on the wheel I will have to refinish the wheel or replace it or have it repaired. $261 - Today's repair $20 - 2 Lyft rides to and from And my time to schedule this and 2 appointments instead of 1 to get my new tires installed. I will not return to Chapel Hill Tire on Franklin St and I can't endorse them any longer for any work. -CT UPDATE post pickup of my truck: Not only did Chapel Hill Tire charge me $261.00 for a problem they created - they didn't install the TPSM sensor in the wheel and they did not notify me when they called with the estimate they were having any problems whatsoever. I did not realize this until I got home - they don't print you an invoice - because saving .03 on printing an invoice is how CHT operates. When I arrived home I found the TPMS sensor in my cupholder. Now I can return to Discount Tire - to have them FIX a 2nd problem created by Chapel Hill Tire. They can look forward to a credit card dispute at this point for the full amount of $261.00.

I've had a headlight out for quite sometime, which would have certainly got me pulled over. The evening I went to search to have it fixed, I needed my mission to be complete. I just feel way too uneasily driving around with a headlight out and it wasn't until that night that I saw it was the entire thing, as I thought it was the only one of the smaller bulbs underneath. Originally I had went to a local auto parts store and was told they'd help install it but after they saw how my car is not as simple as the standard car, they said that it's against policy, as it would require to take my headlight out and they could potentially do damage to my car. At this point I had already bought the bulb with this other autoparts store. The representative at this other parts store, even tho he couldn't do it was helpful and called Pep Boys up the street. (I guess both places are close friends and frequent referrals) Over the phone, Pep Boys quoted $150+. Even though I have the bulb!!!! Just to install one headlight!!!! In a moment of "let's talk to these people", I drive to Pep Boys and Angelo explains to me that his system doesn't give our quotes well and the cost to pop the bulb in would only be $25, since I already had the bulb. Sweeeeet. Labor only took less than ten minutes and I was on my way. Lesson learned, what you're told isn't always what's to be. I had never quite heard of Pep Boys before but now am a fan. Awesome service, great prices and my new go to!

When it got to the window wipers she said they needed to be replaced and they sell a blade for 20-30 dollars. This is a brand new car, and my wipers are good. We stopped the inspection there because she said I already failed because of my wipers. I told her I will go replace them. She said okay, inspection is $30 and we're open till 7pm. Well, I went down the street, passed and got it done for $13.50. What a rip off.
