We've taken our cars here a few times and the service has always been outstanding. I brought my car in for an alignment and they brought me out to show me a problem that needs to be fixed prior to a realignment. They had to order the part, so I rescheduled my appointment. Since the appointment would take some time they gave me a car to use while they worked on my car, and the only cost was to refill the gas when I returned it that evening. I am disappointed with my recent experience at this service center, where I had been a loyal customer for years. Recently, after a heat shield fell off my exhaust on a long drive, I brought the car in for repair. I had replaced the entire exhaust system just six months earlier, so I was surprised when they quoted nearly $1,000 for the heat shield, claiming it was not included in the prior work. After discussion, the manager agreed to cover it. However, this left me questioning the clarity of their previous service descriptions. While the car was in the shop, they recommended replacing the rear sway bar. The estimate instead referenced "rear suspension" at around $700, even though I had replaced the full suspension (front and rear) only two years ago. Again, they stated the prior work did not cover this component. These inconsistencies have seriously damaged my trust. When I returned to pick up the car, an employee handed me a broken key (the electronic component had detached). Staff then made rude comments, suggesting I find another service center and telling me they no longer wanted me as a customer. A manager joined the conversation and the interaction became confrontational. The main issues appear to be vague terminology, poor communication about what parts are included in repairs, and unprofessional handling of customer concerns. As someone who is not a car expert, I felt misled and no longer confident in the services I had paid for over time. This experience has cost them a long-time loyal customer. We are new to the area -- based on a recommendation from a friend, I took both our vechicles in for state inspections and oil changes -- one on Monday, other on Tuesday. In and out in one hour -- super. Price was very reasonable. The waiting room was very accomodating, TV, and best of all free coffee and snacks. The front counter staff was friendly in scheduling the work and in checking in the days of the scheduled appointments. Quoted $978. Ended with a $2,700 bill for repairs they completed before insurance ever saw the vehicle. They claimed the car was AWD and needed matched tires and suspension. Turns out, it's front-wheel drive. Progressive valued the work at $1,600--excluding the strut and battery the service advisor assured me would be covered. At 3:30 Friday, they refused to release my car unless I paid $2,000. They claimed 'premium parts' but replaced my Firestones with Advantas and installed a $331 no-name battery. $1,400 in struts and they didn't even fix the damaged rims. The original advisor walked off my call. His replacement blamed me for not knowing insurance hadn't seen the car--information they withheld when calling to upsell more work. They even offered to uninstall parts to match Progressive's estimate. That says everything. read more

This place is amazing. The staff are polite, professional and knowledgeable. We were travelling from our of state when our vehicle started having issues. We just showed up when they opened and they were more than happy to help us out. We were brought out to the garage where we were able to speak to the mechanic and view any issues that they found. They found fixed the problem and had us back on the road in a few hours. We even got a call the next morning to check if we were having any more issues and that made it to our destination safely. Received a call in a very timely manner from Tim making sure of what my concern was. Shortly after, Tim called again and reported they had put my car on the rack and found it to be in spec. We paid $100 to check why our Prius would not drive. They gave us an estimate to replace Drive Motor Inverter Cooler Water Pump for $880 The parts were $400 and the labor about the same amount. I told them not to start any work. 1st of all they recorded our Telephone conversations without our knowledge or any notice. We found out the cost of the part was $190. They did a 100% mark-up. During our phone conversations my son only asked them to test it with a pump to check if that will do the job. Instead, they went on their own and did all the work without our consent and demanded $880 to come and get the car. We were in total shock as we had arranged a tow truck to take the Prius to another auto shop which had given us a $400 quote for the whole package. I confronted them why 100% markup. Sandy confirmed by email that this is the way it is. This is how they make money. If we don't like it come and get the Prius they will take Pump out. We had wasted so much time. That we ended up paying them $880 to get out of this mess. BE warned they record your conversations without your knowledge. They mark up 100% on the parts. They can go ahead and repair it without your formal approval. Don't go to them unless you want to get stuck like we got stuck. We are still discussing with our lawyer if they legally recorded our conversations without our approval or advance notice. We just moved into the Valley and love the area! As for Auto Care Clinic, let me tell you........ On 17 Aug 20, I brought our 325ci BMW to the Auto Care Clinic on Rt. 522 for an annual state inspection. To my surprise, their inspector failed the car. I was told it needed removal and replacement of the two lower control arms and bushings. The inspector told me one will notice issues with the steering wandering, steering wheel vibrations, clucking noises, etc. The car had none of those issues. I know sometimes these issues are not always present. They provided me an estimate of $1100 to do the replacement/repair. I was quite skeptical that it needed to be done. Why? We had replaced the lower control arm assembly just 20,000 miles ago. When that repair work was done, we were having issues. I told them that I needed to think about it. I reserved judgement at the time knowing full well I needed to get a second opinion from another licensed mechanic. I left with a rejected state inspection sticker and the $20 charge for the inspection. When I got home I performed one of the tests mechanics use to analyze the control arm assembly which is to brake and observe the front wheels. If they continue moving forward after braking you likely have a problem. We did that several times and saw no movement. I spoke to my mechanic of 20 yrs. back in Fairfax County and he confirmed one test is to move the car a few feet and brake. On 1 Sept 20, I brought our car with its rejected sticker into a reputable, highly recommended BMW mechanic in Winchester. He found both assemblies functioning properly and acknowledged that the bushings were fairly new. His findings were confirmed in the afternoon by another shop licensed for VA state inspections. I now have a VA inspection sticker. I spoke to the owner of the Auto Care Clinic, Sandy, to tell her about the inspection by two Winchester mechanics and that we won't be back. Not unexpectedly, she insolently defended her "licensed" inspector, their process and tried to shame me with the notion that I should have given her business a chance to discuss the matter with a "trooper". She then hung up on me! You can't make this stuff up. We won't be back to the Auto Care Clinic! Go at your own risk, but be skeptical. read more

Words will not accurately describe how GRATEFUL I am to Bill Long's staff! I was traveling and had to pull over due to unexpected car troubles and was lucky enough to do a quick google search and find Bill Long's. Todd answered the phone promptly (only 30 minutes prior to closing) and told me I could come in to get some help. One of their technicians, Jason, jumped right into action and did a drive around with me to learn more about what was going on. He was personable, comforting, and professional. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and immediately put my car on the lift. He explained (in understandable terms) the problem and promptly fixed it! *Keep in mind, that he was working past closing at this point.* As a young woman traveling alone, I could not be more appreciative of this team for all their help. read more

Very happy customer. I am from Pittsburgh and was visiting Front Royal for a meeting. My car brakes went out just as I pulled into town. If it wasn't for a friend in Front Royal that knew Bill and Sandy Long, contacting them on a Sunday night, I would have been in trouble getting the car repaired and back home. Bill said for me to use the night drop off. The following Monday morning Andy from the shop called me giving me the bad news, a new brake line would need installed. It would be a few days to work me in since they had a back log already in the shop. No problem as I rented from Enterprise just down the street, drove back to Pittsburgh. To my surprise Andy phoned on Tuesday afternoon saying the repairs were complete. Back to Front Royal I headed. Again, I am a very happy customer. Why? My foreign make of a car gets repaired by a shop that didn't know me, made it happen in two business days, the price of the repair was very reasonable, better than I know the dealer at home would have charged, I felt like I was a neighbor, Lisa in the office was fantastic at our first greeting and then following up two weeks later to make sure everything was still fine, the shop's appearance shows pride in the ownership and I got a 36,000 mile/ 3-year warranty on their work from their network of repair shops they belong to. read more

Auto Care clinic always provides me with comprehensive auto care at competitive prices. I love the fact that I can make an appointment on the internet and have it confirmed within 30 minutes even in the evening after the shop has closed. I love that the mechanics will do the work as expected and if anything else needs to be done they will SUGGEST it and explain why it needs to be fixed and they even tell me if it can wait and how long it can wait so I do not have to fix it now if I choose not to. The waiting room is very inviting it's large and they have complimentary snacks and drinks while you wait. A big plus as well is the customer service at Auto Care Clinic everytime I make an appointment when I walk in the office there is always a big board with my name on it and other customers names on it too that have an appointment that same day. After all the hype I was very disappointed with my experience. After misdiagnosing a problem, charging me for fixing the nonexistent problem, returning with the original problem time and time again ( 6 times total) they finally fixed the original problem, only to cause a secondary problem due to not installing a new engine correctly. They did continue to try - but never quite got it right. People are nice enough (at least to your face) but the quality just isn't there...... read more

Probably the worst place I have ever taken any of my cars. Andy called me Thursday after I had left a message the day before about making an appointment for my 2006 Porsche Boxster. I wanted a quote for an oil change and rear brakes. We decided to do the oil change first. He said he would have all the materials for the next day and that if I gave him the tag number that would tell him exactly what info he needed to have the correct supplies for my car. We made an 11:00 am appointment for Friday 2/22/19. At this point, let me back up. I had called them before. I had a conversation with the owner about IMS bearings regarding these cars. That's when I was finding out info and trying to find a place to do the repairs. He knew nothing about it, but then researched it himself and decided he should purchase the equipment to make those repairs and contact all his Porsche clients. I had also been there before to ask questions, etc. Didn't find them to be friendly or helpful, and I've heard both good and bad things about them. However, they work on Porsche's and it's an oil change. Nobody can mess up an oil change I thought. I was wrong. They can and they did. We got there Friday morning. The first question I was asked was what kind of oil did I want in my car. My son woke up nervous about this place, but I thought it was okay, until she asked me what kind of oil. I said we were leaving if they didn't know what kind of oil the car needed. She literally grabbed my key and ran out a back door. Next thing I know the owner was in my face showing me diplomas he had that were to show he knew what he was doing. He said and Andy said they work on Porsche's all the time. It's not confidence inspiring though when I was asked about the kind of oil I wanted. I apologized about being nervous. He then went on to ask if we had the IMs bearing fixed. I told him about my research and said we were told to look for metal in the oil. Finding metal particles is a warning sign, and only 10 percent of Porsche's actually have the IMs bearing issue. As soon as my son and I said anything about metal, we knew exactly what this place was going to do, but it still kind of surprised me when they did it. The owner said metal, hmmm. The mechanic came about a half hour later with one big piece in his hand, claiming he found it in the oil. Said it was metal. Then said he found a leaking axel and two bad tires. I didn't believe the metal and I don't now. However, just in case, that meant the car was not something we should drive a lot. I did panic and the only good thing about this experience was the mechanic saw me panic. He was nice. He sat down with me and said it was all ok and not to panic. He said the car was drive able and in good shape, and just needed a few things that were not emergencies. Then someone else came along telling me I needed to panic and this was serious and they were going to have to take my engine apart and the owner had left, but they called to tell him he needed to come back to talk to me. He never did talk to me after that initial time shortly after we go therShe even offered me financing for the repairs by the way. I got in touch with a mechanic I trust. He was suspicious of what they said too. He told me to have them put the oil filter in a bag and have the car towed to him. My son heard the one even say if was aluminum and had to be from the IMS bearing. It turns out, they didn't put Mobil one oil in my car. The receipt says thats what they were to use, but they didn't, and it says they didn't. The filter has no metal at all in it and the piece they gave me is aluminum, not metal. If it was the IMs bearing issue, the oil would have had tiny specs in the oil and it would have been throughout the filter, not the two big shards they said they found. It also would have been metal, not aluminum. I haven't gotten a full diagnosis yet, and I do believe I probably have a leaking axel and may need to replace two tires, but I don't believe they found metal, and even the receipt makes no mention of finding any metal in my oil, or aluminum. Now I probably even have to get my oil changed again, as they did not use Mobil One. What a waste of a day, a waste of $127 and some change, and a disappointment that this shop is so greedy that they have to make stuff up to make money. So upset people treat others like that over money. I don't trust this place at all. Obviously, I won't go back. Oh and the tow bill was $370. We drove 4 miles to wait for a tow truck because I didn't want to wait on private property, and the one mechanic there said it was ok to drive. I spent much more than if I had just made the trip in the first place to a mechanic I trust that is farther away than I wanted to go. Had been hoping this place was good and honest so I could use a local place, instead of traveling. Nope. Update, glad I left. read more

Great auto repair shop. We were driving past it on Veterans' Day when our car overheated. Fortunately they were open and immediately diagnosed the problem. We had been driving home after shopping at Costco and had a load if seafood that could not be allowed to warm so they graciously allowed us to use their refrigerator for the duration of our visit. The waiting area is large, clean and comfortable with TV and complimentary beverages. The staff are friendly and professional. The repair was completed ahead of schedule and at the estimate.Highly recommended! read more
