In luray for vacation and my car dies mid trip - recipe for disaster. I call Tom's as soon as they open the next morning and they say they can look at it it but they arent sure they can fit in any major repairs that day. One of the best shops I've been too!! My 08 f150 wheel bearing decided to give out 3 hours from home and in the middle of no where in Shenandoah during a hiking trip. Went to the closest shop and they wouldn't take a look at it for a second to tell me what the problem was, so I headed over to Toms hoping for better luck. Told them what was wrong and their employee Jeff wasted no time and had everything off and the new bearing installed in about 30 minutes. They didn't overcharge and gave me a great price for the situation I was in. Really honest, helpful, and respectful people. Highly recommend!! Definitely would not have gotten home without them. On a venture to get an inspection today I took a truck to Tom's for the first time. I didn't wait long at all he got me in there and out unfortunately the truck failed for a parking brake. I went back had it fixed and came back maybe two hours later and it took me all of five minutes for them to check out the truck and put an inspection sticker on it. Tom's is the place to bring your car. They are knowledgeable, trustworthy, price competitive and extraordinarily helpful. When my campervan broke down on Skyline Drive during our vacation, we limped into Luray. Asking around town for a reliable mechanic, everyone recommended Tom's. Jeff took a look at the van right away, and was able to quickly diagnose the problem...a hard-to-find ABS module. Working her supplier contacts and the internet, Sherrie was able to locate the right part and get it shipped in. My van spent a few extra days in Virginia under the care of Tom's staff, but when the part arrived, Jeff installed and tested it, and we were good to go. During my time at their shop, they quickly and efficiently handled all sorts of automotive issues for their clients, many of whom showed-up without appointments. Their mechanics gave good advice to their customers, and I never heard anyone trying to upsell for unneeded repairs. For the time I was there, I felt like family. I took my SUV there for repair of the heater. About 2 hours later, I was in the waiting room, I was asked to follow Tom into the garage. The mechanic had pulled the entire top of the motor apart and showed me a broken piece of metal that just "had to be replaced". $700 later I finally got my SUV back and the heater still did not work! I will never go there again and I certainly will not recommend this shop. read more

This review is several months late in coming, but I'm very glad that I've finally remembered to post it! My two friends and I encountered Tom's Auto Repair after an unfortunate mishap in Shenandoah, when my Ford Focus went over a large rock and broke the oil pan. As a vacationer from NE, in a small town over a thousand miles from home, I was entirely at the mercy of local service providers to get home safely and not pay a fortune. The employees at Tom's Auto treated us with exceptional graciousness and thoughtfulness, which really improved an overall crummy situation. They even loaned us a vehicle to get around town during our stay! Though we came to the shop late in the afternoon, we were able to continue our roadtrip before noon the next day. The fees were within an expected range for the type of parts and repairs needed. This was all wonderful, but the real reason I felt compelled to review is that when we finally returned to NE several days later, the oil pan began to leak again. In their efforts to get us back on the road quickly, something hadn't sealed quite right, and I needed to have some of the labor redone. When my home mechanic and I contacted Tom's Auto, they immediately agreed to refund the cost of their labor, when they really didn't have any kind of practical obligation to. Throughout all of our dealings, the employees at Tom's Auto treated us with the highest respect and integrity, and I highly recommend them to any other unfortunate victims of the mountain roads! read more
