I absolutely loved my meal. My partner and I got the four meat four veggie sampler platter and everything was flavorful and tasty. We couldn't even decide which was our favorite because everything was fantastic. The portion size was also nice, we finished about half and were able to take the rest home. Ambiance and decor is also cute! I didn't get a cocktail, but they are reasonably priced as well.

I've ordered from Authentic EthioAfrican Kitchen, Bar & Cafe several times through Postmates and have always had a good experience. I usually go for the vegan combo dishes, which are flavorful and satisfying. I especially love their fresh and delicious injera. Overall, great food and reliable delivery. I would definitely return again and recommend it to others!

Impressive to say the least! The aromas & decor are enough to make you want to sit down and give it a well deserved shot. They also have a full bar with an excellent selection of beers. The menu is 80% Vegan friendly with wonderful plates to fly solo and enjoy or share with company. Yum to say state the obvious. If you are a carnivore like me you need to order the Tibs or devour their beef tartare! It isn't traditional tartare as in being raw. You may choose to have it cooked to your liking. I suggest rare or medium at the most. Their staff are polite and inviting. The owner told me that they also have a location in Scottsdale. This Phoenix location on McDowell will make you feel like you are in another country. Ethiopian food is among one of my favorites. This authentic Ethiopian restaurant will make you want to come back and bring your friends. They will be impressed!

The food was just as my pallet was craving! Service was exceptional and atmosphere delightful. I definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Ethiopian food, served in a timely manner. Best in the Valley and I definitely have this spot on my calendar for once a month. Great healthy eating bonappetit

Tuesday night visit, first visit. We spent nearly two hours at the restaurant. Our order consisted of an appetizer and two entrees. The service was ok. The server was nice, things just took awhile to come out. The ambience was low lighting. We had a mix of meat and vegan items with sega wot key and meser wot being our favorites. The awaze wings were well seasoned.

My friend's bday was Valentine's Day so I asked her to pick a spot so we can get together and celebrate the next day. We decided to go to this spot at 11am Saturday which is when they opened! We were seated and greeted right away which was awesome. Entering this restaurant transports you to another place! The decor, the seating, everything was so authentic to who they are and what they serve. We absolutely loved that. We sat down and ordered drinks. It looked like there was only one server so it did take about 20 minutes to get our drinks but they were absolutely delicious. Then we asked what she would recommend to eat as we had never been there and she recommended the sharing platter of vegetable and meat. We got two veggie and two meat, spicy and mild and a side of rice. Let me tell you, it was flavorful and it did not disappoint. We were there for quite a while cause we just enjoyed the whole atmosphere and took our time with the food. We ordered another round of drinks and those came fairly quickly. Next time we will order dessert as well! Definitely a spot to check out! Worth it!

Meat combo for two people $19.

I came here this day with a meetup group of 6 people. Other Yelp reviewers were right. Service was really slow..... to meeeee. Menu came 20 min after I sat down. Took half hour after that for someone to come take our orders. I was life must be that slow in Ethiopia. I ordered meat combo $19 to share with one other person. Menu says to be shared for two people, but nothing to divide 1 drumstick, and one HB egg. Comes with beef Sega wot , Chicken Doro wot and Gormen Besga . The injera was really quite cold, like from refridgerator and very rubbery! I was expecting it to be warm. Baklava was good! Large piece for $5. Took forever for the coffee to come, we were leaving. This place, not my thing ..... See my other reviews.

We waited an hour for our food, despite there only being one or two other tables seated. My Shiro Wot was fine, every dish my party got was pretty spicy. The restaurant was quiet and dim.

We came here for lunch, and we very impressed. The food was authentic, flavorful, and reasonably priced. I liked how we could build our own plate and mix and match vegetarian and meat dishes. My cocktail (The Afro) was also good, although I would have appreciated more unique options. The inside was beautifully decorated and the servers were all very nice. I'm only rating it a 4 star instead of a 5 star restaurant because they were out of quite a bit of food, which was disappointing. We wanted to get coffee and dessert, but they were out of the carrot cake I wanted. Other than that, we would definitively recommend this restaurant and will be returning ourselves.

We loved our experience dining here! We got the vegetarian combo 10 sides and the meat sampler and enjoyed all of it very much. The food was very fresh and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and welcoming too. Customer service was amazing. Highly recommend!

Kare Ethiopians' location offers the traditional objects and décor of the culture and traditions - giving you a feel and apropos ambience. But the tables and chairs are reminiscent of the 60s with somewhat sticky plastic table covers, it has airy and comfortable seating, adequate service and courtesy and admirably modest prices - yet the food was good, but less than extraordinary! If you're not an Ethiopian food fanatic, Kare may not be the place to start your testing your taste buds. But if you're not an aficionádo or enthusiast already, there are a handful of other Ethiopian restos to better try. Right off the bat, when served my requested Pop Walia Lager, I had to ask for a glass, and the beer was barely cold! My wife ordered water, was served a bottle - no glass! We started with appetizers of reasonably tasty meat Sambussa. We decided that our main would be a sampler dish giving us ample opportunity to try an across-the-board spectrum of their offerings. It was a good choice. Within minutes of our appetizer arrived our sampler platter which included: selections of misr wat (red lentil), alecha wat (vegetable stew), fosolia (butter beans), gomen (damn good collard greens), and tikil gomen (excellent cabbage and potato stew) and key sir (a very good beet, potato, cabbage mix), all served with traditional injera and garnished with very little salad salad. I was hoping the selection would also have included some servings of kitfo (beef), atkilt (spice cabbage), and/or Yebeg Alicha (lamb stew), but I was not in luck. If this restaurant is near you, it will be a relatively decent choice for Ethiopian, but if not, for really excellent renditions there are at least two other competitors worth trying and more mouthwatering.

Café Lalibela serves authentic Ethiopian cuisine with recipes that have been passed down through generation. The family that owns this place are passionate about sharing their culture. One of the family members came out and greeted our table. She shared a little bit about the history of Café Lalibela and how they made their way to Tempe. The staff also described the food that we were about to eat as they brought it out. We ordered a couple of platters and enjoyed eating it communally. The menu consists Ethiopian favorites like Doro Wat, Tibs, Kitfo and a variety of vegan and gluten-free dishes. I am a big lentil fan and love that lentils are a big part of Ethiopian cuisine. I had the Lalibela Deluxe platter in front of me most of the evening and enjoyed the flavors and spices of each of the items. Ethiopian food is so vibrant and colorful. If you have never tried, they do not use silverware to pick up their food. Food is eaten with Injera - a spongy pancake-like flatbread that you use to scoop up your food. The TV was on loud with a soccer game on. A man came out and sat us. we the meat sambusas. They were very good. The gentleman that served us was very nice. They sell water, you cannot get a glass.. only bottles. The prices of the food seemed reasonable. I got the Awaze Tibs(seasoned beef dish). this was very good. It came with the authentic Injera. (gluten free fermented bread) it has a spongy texture, a very sour dough like flavor. My daughter got the Alicia Wot (seasoned lamb dish). It was also very good. My problem lies with the service mostly. All the men that worked there, sat in the room with the TV, area watching the soccer game including our server. We sat there forever to get the door and then I had to go wake him for our bill. He didn't offer an itemized bill, just gave me the amount. I had to ask for an itemized bill. However this is not the restaurant's fault that falls absolutely on DoorDash and their poor service. Having said that this is a family run restaurant. I ordered the mushroom wat which was very reasonably priced at nine dollars and an iced tea. The owner of the restaurant is very friendly very warm when I also taking my order promptly. The dining area itself is smaller, but very quaint and its ability to maintain its coziness. The decor of the restaurant is pretty modest in a culturally based atmosphere which improves the atmosphere of this wonderful experience. My food was very promptly made and arrived on the table quickly and experience was about to get all that much better. The mushroom wat was absolutely amazing and absolutely what I have been craving for the 20 years. I've been waiting for in my return cravings for Ethiopian food. The bread they used for dipping with absolutely perfect as it is always one of my favorites to indulge when eating this food. In the end this place left me sitting at the table absolutely stuffed, which is fantastic especially with the price what I paid for it all. I will be returning to restaurant for sure as I now found the exact right place, for this kind of food.

I also loved the thoughtful touch of offering personal handheld fans to guests if they got warm. The bar was another standout. I really appreciated that the cocktails are crafted using African or Black-owned liquors, making the drink menu feel unique and intentional. If you don't drink alcohol, they also have a wonderful selection of mocktails and natural teas, so there are plenty of options for everyone. The food took a little longer than expected to come out, but nothing unreasonable. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair for the quality and amount of food you receive. My only recommendation is to be prepared if you're not a fan of spicy food the piri piri chicken definitely has some heat. I ordered combinations both times, trying most of the vegan options and two of the meat options between the two meals. There wasn't one dish that I wouldn't eagerly order again. The two-meat / two-vegan and four-vegan platters were each probably enough for two ordinary appetites. I finished one each night, but was very full afterwards. Service was provided by a friendly and charming server who graciously chatted with me about some shared interests. I see a few reviewers complain about service on busy evenings, and it was clear from the size of the place that one server would have little hope of keeping up by themselves if it was busy. And this is why: We arrived on a Tuesday around 5.30 pm. The posted hour for opening was 4.00 pm. The doors were locked. I called the restaurant. The voicemail eventually answered with the business hours and that they were busy serving other customers. We looked on Yelp for other Ethiopian places that had Kitfo and/or Gored Gored. I saw the restaurants other (first) location and called that number. It was answered and I asked about the restaurant not being open. I was assured that someone was on the way. We decided to walk around the deserted shopping center but then found an Albertsons there. We needed a few things, so we went grocery shopping. Upon returning to the restaurant, we found it open. No one was there, so we stood there for a short time. Eventually a smiling man greeted us and asked if we were the ones who had called. I nodded and he profusely apologized for the delay. After a while of sitting at a table, he returned to take our order. We wanted Kitfo (raw), Chicken tibs, and the 4 veggie combo with tikel gomen, gomen, misir wat, and yesuf fitfit. I had never had the last and was excited to try it. Since there were no Ethiopian beers like Harar or Bedel, we settled for a Modelo especial draft, our favorite Mexican beer. The waiter (who was the owner of the two restaurants, as it turned out later), asked what we would like if there was no Kitfo, the main thing we were there for. We decided to get beef tibs, in that case. Eventually the food arrived with no Kitfo, but beef tibs, Misir wat, tikil gomen, gomen and salad. He was unable to do the yesuf fitfit. He offered a substitute and we got the keyser. The food was good. Not the best Ethiopian food I've had, but authentic tasting. The salad lacked acid. It was salty, but I don't mind that part. The veggies were done correctly. The beef tibs were heavy on the rosemary but pleasant in taste. There were only onions, no hot peppers like in other versions. As always, we ordered too much. The owner, Andu, gave us a complimentary piece of cake to take with us and recommended we visit his first restaurant in Phoenix where we may have gotten kitfo. In my 4 star rating, I only considered the food and the lovely service we received. I did not consider that the opening times were ignored, and we could not get 2 of the dishes we wanted that were on the menu. The next time we are in town, we will try the Phoenix location.
