This is Austin Reed's flagship store, with five floors of elegant, classic menswear and womenswear, as well as a small cafe on the lower ground floor.
The classic Austin Reed look - think suits, blazers, double-cuffed shirts, good leather shoes, heavy-knit jumpers, barbour jackets - is timeless, and very British in an understated way. The clothing is generally excellent quality, too: I have Austin Reed suits and ties that have lasted well over a decade.
All this quality comes at a price, and it's not cheap: shoes especially can be eye-wateringly expensive (around £500 a pair for something top-end). But other accessories and their own brand goods can offer good value for money, although this is never going to be a budget store. That said, they do have good sales. I've generally found the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable.
The branch has a hire service, as well as a (very) small cafe for breakfast, a light lunch or afternoon tea. It's often very quiet, so a good place to escape the madness of the West End. The store has level access (suitable for wheelchairs) to all the main floors, although one or two raised-platform display areas have steps. There are men's, women's and disabled toilets. read more
