I like Roxane, who works with me. She really goes above and beyond! This time, she had her foot in a boot and still tried to do what she could to teach me my exercises/monitor my progress. The North Lamar location is also super easy to get to, being just off 183. The only thing I'd change about this place is I'd appreciate some sort of text or email confirmation of my appointment. The phone calls are fine but leave room for confusion (I realized after I hung up that I couldn't tell if the receptionist said my appointment was at 4:30 or 4:40). read more

My experience with Austin Physical Therapy Specialists has been great. I see Dr. Swap to help rehab my hip, hamstring, and pelvic floor therapy. I had an over use injury for over a year and felt like I was chasing the cause and not really sure where to turn. I saw multiple PT's, but I didn't feel confident in their care. I'm totally confident with Dr. Swap. She has gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. I feel like she treats me based on what is happening in my body instead of just giving me a group of exercises expected to work. I also really appreciate that I see her. Having one person who oversees my care is important to me and she has always helped me feel comfortable with this. I highly recommend APTS! read more

NOT AT ALL COVID PREPARED FACILITY. For an appointment at 10 o clock, they made me wait in the lobby with someone who had fever for 45 minutes. They are not practicing social distancing in lobby or inside the facility. The chairs are so closely packed and no temperature checks as soon as you enter the door. After 45 mins they tell me their Credit card machine is having issues. Two vents in lobby without any additional filter. Making you fill atleast 6 sheets of paper work in the unsafe lobby which could be easily done prior over phone or online. I worry for the people who are putting their lives on line in this facility. Literally left the place in tears - a. Due to pain for which I originally reached out to them, b. Glim state of affairs in seemingly best/urban areas of Austin, TX where already covid numbers are in red. read more

I have never gone through physical therapy myself, but I have observed many other clinics and the service they provide for others. I was seeking some manual therapy and heat treatments for my lower back strain. It had been about 2.5 months since it was injured so it was close to normal functioning. The office staff is why I deducted a full star. I made my original evaluation appointment with someone who did not know anything about my insurance. I had to make several phone calls to my PCP and the clinic to determine why I could not begin treatment and even after specifically asking them what I needed to do on my part to start the process I was told the same "We can't start your treatment because we don't have the forms" WELL what forms did I need, who I can call, who you're going to call, if it was a problem with my insurance or my referral, etc! Don't just tell me the same thing repeatedly without giving me some type of direction to go in. I found out the office staff, who carelessly checked my insurance, left the clinic and was the reason why my referral never went through (i.e. waiting for them to call me back when they didn't even work there anymore). The office manager was also off-putting and lectured me for coming in when they said they would call me back for a time (miscommunication between me and the staff member who no longer works there). Before I even began treatment, the office staff gave me a terrible impression of how the place was being ran. Manual Therapy wise, I give it 3.5/5. My injury was pretty much gone by the time I got everything settled. I'm fairly fit and needed manual therapy on a DEEP back extensor muscle. Here is where I deduct another star. During my first session I had an AMAZING PT manipulate my back with the perfect amount of pressure. The heated gel, skill, and care she put into my treatment? WONDERFUL. If I had her the entirety of my treatment I would've been incredibly happy. However, at one of my other sessions I had a PTA who 1) massaged on top of my clothes 2) did not use any heated elements 3) it felt like she was trying to massage a cotton ball because I barely felt her (keep in mind I had a DEEP injury). I left that session very frustrated like, was that it? I paid for that?? Exercise wise, 5/5. My wonderful technician Alejandro and the head PT in charge of my treatment are the dream team. They were both very knowledgable and it was very clear they knew more about pushing me toward getting discharged. They gave me excellent tips for preventing and conditioning my body so I could prevent another injury. Alejandro is VERY good at using k-tape and would always tape my back up very nicely. Heated elements, 5/5 I got to try some laser therapy which was pretty cool. It increased blood circulation to the site of my injury to promote healing. The tech who was performing the therapy told me to tell him if it was too hot (which at some parts it was but he kept going...) and was very kind. My favorite part about the session was laying on a heated blanket with electrodes. The last 10 minutes were what I lived for. Overall, if you've made it this far in my review then thank you for reading my rant. I had to request to get discharged because at I was getting increasingly frustrated with the manual therapy, repeated exercises (I also deduct half a star because they had a PT student do my last session and not really observe the quality of my exercises), and felt my injury was about 97% gone but I was getting treatments as if it was 75% gone. It's been a few months since I've gotten discharged, and I have not felt any pain in my back. Don't think I'll come back, but I would recommend them to other patients who need a gentler approach to therapy. read more

I had another physical therapy experience that left me a bit jumpy so when I called here, I was pretty specific in what I needed - which was the ability to have a calmer space so I could concentrate on my body. This place fits the bill. The environment is peppy and upbeat, but they have curtains they can pull around you so you don't feel self-conscious doing awkward leg exercises, or getting massage. Both Dr. Askari and Dr. Henderson are knowledgeable and both are trained in needling. There are some new promising physical therapists as well. They have a number of techs, all of which are great and personable. Some of them speak Spanish. I usually request Jason when I go because he knows my personal quirks, knows who I am and my concerns, and gives great myo. He's given me exercises to do at home that have helped. And I feel better. At one point I was going 3 times a week because my back, neck, and knees were so rough. Now I only need to pop in every other month - and it'd probably be even less often if I were more diligent in my exercises. The front desk is also personable and pretty awesome which is...rare. Most of the time when you go into an office, it seems like the people treating you and the people handling appointments and insurance have completely different attitudes and never communicate. No problems here. Also, they take my somewhat crappy insurance, which is a huge relief. read more

This is the worst place I have ever been too. Please just pay the extra $10 to go to a real doctor. The doctors were so rude and had 3 people do physicals at the same time! Not to mention the place is filthy and out of date, I'm not one to judge for our of date places. But this was ridiculous, pee samples on the counter, small rooms with old equipment that barley worked. Doctors were so unprofessional, PLEASE DONT GO HERE!! read more

I just went in for my 1st evaluation and just by the 1st experience I can definitely say that I'm going to enjoy my time here. I wish I remembered her name but she was super kind and very helpful with the evaluation and made me feel very comfortable. The environment is welcoming with open arms for help. The actual therapy we got was outstanding. Swapnali was excellent. The gentleman who does scheduling was very nice and professional. However, they ran at least 30 minutes late every single time for 8 appointments straight. The front door to the place does not have any type of handicap accommodation which is ludicrous. I was fighting to get a baby stroller through the door; I can't imagine trying to get through in a wheelchair or on crutches. They mishandled my billing epically; I had to scrutinize my insurance statements and then make several calls to get $275 returned to me. read more

( Alex ) + the staff , Enviornment in general . They are all so caring , friendly understanding etc . Anyone who is training for the service & definately needs BootCamp Training should attend here + request for Alex! He will work you so hard for your life + lifetime Even a Run for the Money lol . Wow! I'm somewhat embarrassed that it has taken so long to get to Yelp and leave a review of my experience with Austin Physical Therapy Specialists. I am so sorry but I have been very busy continuing with my exercise practice, yoga and using my stationery bike, along with just getting on with my life after recovering from TKR on my left knee. Just want everyone to know that I so appreciate all the help, care and attention I received while a patient there between August and November of 2016. The therapists in this practice are kind, considerate, professional, and really know what they're doing. Helping through whatever fear I may have had, and pushing me just enough to be able to achieve real progress. To them I owe that I can climb stairs, get down on the floor without falling over and performing tasks around my home. For an 80 year old woman (just turned 80 last month) that is something of a miracle in my book! I think about each of you daily as I go about my day, and bless you for being so kind and caring. They kept encouraging me to leave my minor child alone during treatments. I don't think it's appropriate to treat a child outside of her parent's supervision. The encouragement to leave her alone got more and more intense until I was banned from observing her therapy. This is shady and upsetting. We will not be coming back. I don't know if they were attempting to do inappropriate things with her or not but the overall vibe was very creepy. read more

I have Parkinsonisms and serious major back surgery and Dr. Robert Henderson and the many knowledgeable therapists are friendly and very encouraging and make taking care of your body and doing the impossible in my case. You could not find a better rehab anywhere!!! When you look around the room every one is doing something different because ATPS understands each of us are unique and our treatment plans are designed for you PERSONALLY!!! I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Swapps (Dr. Swapnali) work with me in helping me regain the strength and mobility in my knee. I cannot fully describe how wonderful she is. First and foremost, I reap the benefits that Dr. Swapps offers as she is thoroughly knowledgeable and experienced in the work that she does. I've worked with Alejandro for a few weeks now. He is an assistant PT however his previous experience as a PT abroad very much comes through in his work. His knowledgebase meets and in most cases surpasses many physical therapists I've seen in the past. You can also see that he is very well respected among his co-workers. Since much of time you spend as a patient here will be with the assistants, I highly recommend you not settle for any other assistant (aside from Brian, who is also fantastic). After working with Alejandro, I honestly don't even need to check in with one of the physical therapists. He knows his stuff and always produces results. read more

I haven't been to other PT offices to compare but i wasn't impressed with the service here. Friendly staff but they require payment at time of appointment and refused to invoice me so i could pay with my HSA. I also didn't like how i was expected to remember all the home exercises and i had to ask for printouts or notes or something. I'm going to look elsewhere for treatment. read more
