I don't think words alone can describe the service and support I've received from Austin Sports…read moreMedicine, but I'll try :) I was in such severe daily pain back in December, and they were able to check me out right away during the Christmas break. Found out that I required physical therapy to learn how to walk and do my normal routine for work and photography for many months. I've always heard about how painful it can be but working with Kevin Craig almost every week now for 5 months has been a life changer. He really pays attention on my progress as I learn how to walk once more without pain, listening to week on when my pain flares up and when it does not. He adjusts my PT sessions when he knows to focus on new things to get back together. We were focused on walking and now that I can almost walk normal, we adjusted my plan to walk with carrying weight (which is important as a photographer). I really dreaded SXSW this year because of 2 weeks on my feet with my camera gear, but with my on-going PT, I was able to get through the fest and adjust how walking and weight carry with his advice! Oh, and one of the best aspects of the PT sessions is also working with Luke along side Kevin. They say laughter is the best medicine, and Luke combines humor with the specialized exercises that Kevin assigns to make the time go by fast. Both Kevin and Luke make my weekly PT trips to the South Austin location something to look forward to!

I can't understand why these people get good reviews unless they're planted or paid for ones,…read morebecause they don't know what they're doing, and are dangerous. A minor problem before is a major problem now, leaving these people liable for the damage they caused. When doctors say that they don't understand how incompetent people advertise as sports "medicine" practitioners and get away with doing permanent damage to people, that's really scary. So maybe instead of ignoring people whose lives are impacted by their screw ups, take the financial responsibility for the damage done and train people better, so that they don't do damage to anyone else. Avoid at all cost.

Dr. Savage was great! After he reviewed the x-rays and examined me, he asked me to listen to his assessment and to hold my questions and my self diagnoses until he finished. I interrupted him at least twice, and he told me (very politely) to just shut up and LISTEN. It was very refreshing to score a doctor who gets to the point without all the namby-pamby Mayo Clinic Listen To The Patient crap. Patients should be patients and let the doctor do his effing job. I was struck by Dr. Savage's professionalism, his directness and his skill in letting me know WHO is the doctor and who is the patient.

I was at first impressed with the doctor, but when it came down to do my procedure and the "…read morerevolving amounts of surgical scheduled pts" that morning he had no clue what pt he was talking to nor did he read the chart notes. It would have been obviously clear to him of my true diagnosis as demonstrated from test and our discussion in the office. I went from very minimal care needed as discussed to his suggestion of a hip replacement if the injection didn't work while waiting for my turn. I was shocked. It is a scary thing when you become a number rather than a patient. Won't be going back to there new location or Dr. Schultz again.

K, I'm a bit biased: I, myself, was a PT at STAR for 10 years. But, I'm a patient right now: bicipital tendinitis developed as a result of shoulder impingement/rotator cuff arthropathy. I couldn't use my arm worth squat, constant pain, and intense pain with attempted use. What I had tried/done failed. Grew very discouraged/depressed: Husband asked me when I was going to DO something about it (& stop complaining, lol). Saw my doc: He offered an injection, but I said, "PT first please, and I want to go to STAR." (don't want injections to jeopardize the integrity of my tendons, and STAR PT "only"!). Yes, a PT may need another PT to lift one up, illuminate the path, and lead the way to success! Highlighting Anthony for his awesomeness! I specifically requested Anthony because he was the only one who didn't "know me." I know the other therapists, and they are all excellent. In this case personally, I wanted to be "led" unbiasedly: without any consideration/assumption that I "should know" this or that since the others "know" I'm a PT. Visits 1 & 2 proved to me why you see a PT before injections/surgery: immediate positive impact! I experienced a set-back after the visit 3 - of the exact same nature as to why I was unsuccessful when I tried to rehab myself. Anthony got me past this in ways that I'd never thought of! Week 3: still progressing, and Anthony increased focus on other components of my body to ensure long-term success (YES, core/pelvic/hip/leg exercises for my shoulder problem!). 8th visit/re-evaluation: 80+% better! Able to swim freestyle without problems over 4th of July holidays, pain is SO much less (I can handle intermittent dull aching), I no longer hesitate to use my arm (though it's still quite weak), and I'm now asking questions about working out! Anthony is so awesome: He listens, instructs, educates, set goals, and puts the plan into place. Though (as a PT) I think I could "take over" independently at this point, I'm continuing because I want to return to 100% and want him to keep leading me to ensure success. I started a version of push-ups (um, 7 visits ago, this thought was ludicrous)! Anthony reviewed other activities/gym exercises to try (or avoid), reminded me of needed rest/recovery periods and signs of when to back-off/stop. I don't know if I'll need to update this review when I am 100%, because I'm now feeling like nothing's going to stop me from reaching my goals! & Yes, should I experience any "hiccup" from this point forward, Anthony will bring me beyond it (full confidence), but this is why I'm still going to STAR PT! My story, done. Extra info for y'all: More about STAR PT... Owner Jon Hupp (PT) is absolutely BRILLIANT. He's judiciously grown his business from the ground up, has poured in his heart & soul to make this the best out-patient practice possible, ceaselessly makes improvements/expands his/the team's education to be at the cutting edge, has/ensures an awesome environment & the equipment that's needed, and leads a team who's dedicated to the ultimate mission of maximizing YOUR life and potential!

Since we were to travel on a walking-intensive trip to Germany approx. three weeks hence, we asked the doctor if I could get some PT. He wrote the referral and told us that Pro-Motion on Slaughter Ln was a good place to go. That was convenient since he is in the same shopping center. After an initial evaluation by one of the doctors at ProMotion, they placed me with Byron, a former Marine, who went to ACC and was trained as a Physical Therapy Assistant. I was amazed by how good he was--I think he's a natural for this kind of thing, though I'm sure the training also helped a lot. I really hope he gets the opportunity to study to get his doctorate in PT, because I'm pretty sure he will be a great one. He was always patient, firm, and honest. A hard combination to find--though the fact that he was a Marine made it a little less surprising. I made a lot of progress in three weeks, but as we came to the end of the three weeks, we decided that it was best for me to bring a cane along on the trip (I'd never used a cane in my life) since I was told we would be walking typically 5 to 7 miles per day (of course, not all in one walk without a break--but, still that's more than I walked before my injury). Brandon taught me how to use the cane. Though I was able to basically get around without a cane, I did need it sometimes, especially towards the end of a day. He also counseled me on selecting the right kind of compression socks to wear on the airplane. I cannot say enough good things about Byron and Pro-Motion Physical Therapy.
