They really care about their students and their program. My sons have had wonderful experiences at the school and have grown as people as well as musicians . Being a part of the SOR performance program has given them a sense of belonging as well as lifted their self-esteem. My eldest son was able to get a lucrative job, though he is still an older teenager due to his knowledge and hard work at SOR in addition to some other great qualities he has. SOR is a place where students up to 18 years old can be themselves and discover music and get a chance to perform in actual venues in this wonderful city that is so much defined by music. Adult students have the chance to learn instruments or singing that they may have always wanted to learn, but never had a chance, for others, it proves to be a great activity be where they can develop skills make friendships. They too get to perform in venues. All of the students have one-on-one lessons with professional musicians. I just can't say enough good things about it, and I know that my children are better for having been a part of the SOR family.

TLDR: The only good thing about this location is the teachers. They are incredible. However, the…read moredirectors at this location are extremely unethical in their practices, and they're following suit of the massive corporate chain above them. The teachers really are incredible. I know many kids have had a great experience because of them! They work hard and care about what they do. They also only make about $15/lesson, while parents are paying more than 5x that per lesson. That's at least $55 that goes... somewhere else.... These incredible teachers are refused benefits including health insurance. They are forced to apply for government assistance and charitable aid to get coverage. Indeed, there is a local nonprofit that provides assistance to musicians whose employers otherwise refuse to: HAAM. This location even unashamedly uses their students to fundraise for HAAM, showing the world what good philanthropists they are, while their own employees have to rely on them to afford health insurance. If your child does go there and shows enough talent or drive, they will be pressured to audition for the "B-Team." This is a great opportunity for kids to play gigs in front of audiences, especially if that's what they're passionate about. Unfortunately, however, this group of students is exploited and overworked. They are used as free marketing and labor at events, and the number of required weekends can be overburdensome and lead to burnout. Just be wary, and know a lot of the group quit this year. If your child is set on a rock-star dream, learning covers, and playing on stage at a venue in a rockband setting, more power to them! It's a lot of fun, and there are other great alternatives. BandAid is a great choice, or even the southwest location of School of Rock (private franchise). If your child is set on learning an instrument or furthering their musical education, please consider other options first. This School of Rock location is a corporate franchise, where money is valued over people, and the two directors take full advantage of their employees and students. Private instructors abound, all for less money and more learning, especially music theory and even just reading music. It will also be cheaper, since you'll pay teachers directly, and not the overhead of an international corporate chain, which is only a mere portfolio of an even more massive company, Youth Enrichment Brands. At the end of the day School of Rock is a business owned by an even bigger business. With a CEO, shareholders, profit margins to hit, and money to make. They will put profit over people at every level, despite their convincingly authentic appearances. The music director even makes some of his serious leadership decisions by rolling a die, as if it's a game to him? Our kids deserve better. -From a parent of a former student and spouse of a former teacher.

DO NOT take your instrument here for setups…read more I visited Musicians Woodshed last week and initially spoke with one of the guitar techs, Jett Boyd, who was polite and professional. We discussed my bass guitar and the possibility that some frets might need adjustment. When I returned the following week after noticing some fret buzz, I spoke with Miles Manglos. I explained that I prefer a very straight neck with low action and that I was not interested in adding more relief to the neck. Because of that, the logical solution would have been to address the fret work. Instead, he suggested doing a setup that would involve adding relief and raising the action--the exact opposite of what I had just explained I wanted. When I asked whether that meant adding neck relief and how that would affect the current setup, he couldn't clearly explain it. I also mentioned that at a different shop in another city, a tech had previously performed a setup even though I specifically asked him not to and only wanted the jack repaired. I brought this up simply to explain why I was trying to be very clear about the work I wanted done. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, Miles abruptly declined to work on the instrument and told me to leave. He was dismissive and repeatedly said he didn't understand what I was saying. A competent guitar tech or luthier should be able to translate what a musician is describing and communicate clearly about the work being recommended. If a shop cannot or does not want to perform a certain service, that's fine--but it should be handled respectfully and professionally. Unfortunately, this interaction came across as pretentious and unhelpful, and it left a very negative impression of the shop.

I had already been a customer for a year, paid every bill on time, paid a deposit at the very beginning of my account with them although my credit was GOOD. Not fair, not poor, GOOD, and still got a nonsense explanation that made it clear they either don't value repeat customers or don't know how to apply their own policies consistently. I walked away and found another company (Blackerby) with far better service, better rates, a $125 deposit, and no credit check. The difference was night and day. This company's deposit policy feels arbitrary, their pricing is excessive, and their treatment of customers is flat-out poor. I would not recommend them to anyone. By the way I paid for an entire year of rental upfront with the other company and still paid less than the $600 deposit fee that Strait Music tried to play in my face with.

We had such an amazing time on Lake Travis thanks to Willo and Float On. Everything about the…read moreexperience was extremely streamlined from booking to filling out waivers to navigating to the marina. Willo gave superb instructions on operating and piloting the boat including an overview of relevant customs and laws while out on the water. Our group had six adults and one 2-year old and they had plenty of water safety devices for all ages. On a side note, it was wonderful to see how genuinely excited Willo was about Lake Travis once again having a healthy water level after several dry years. In terms of our experience on the lake, we got excellent advice on where to travel based on our team's interests and after following his directions it felt like we had arrived on our own private lake. We probably only saw a handful of other boats during our 3-hour excursion and that was only in passing. The boat came with a Garmin GPS that made it really easy to retrace our steps. For those wondering, there was excellent cell phone service out on the lake and we were able to use our phone GPS, make calls, and stream music. The boat had some nice integrated speakers with Bluetooth connectivity and we were able to jam out to our own tunes. There was also a cool flotation device attached to the back of the boat called the Aqua Lily Pad which we unrolled after anchoring, we had multiple adults laying on it without sinking into the lake. Overall, we could not have asked for a better experience and we would highly recommend booking with Float On.

Unfortunately, Paul's friends left a negative impression. A couple of them outright refused to acknowledge me, turning away when a gentleman attempted to introduce me. Others made inappropriate jokes about my accent in a condescending and offensive manner. One individual even made vulgar comments, implying that Paul should get my phone number to discuss event planning details later, which was completely unprofessional and inappropriate. While the event itself was enjoyable, the boat ride interesting, the behavior of those around the boat owner and the fact that the boat owner never replied to my text message trying to discuss my event, was disappointing and detracted from my overall experience. This experience left me with a negative impression of the boat's management, and I strongly feel that they are not welcoming to immigrants. The group consisted of older white men whose behavior was filled with prejudice and hostility. And for that reason I felt compelled to post a review discouraging people like me- and those against this type of behavior - to stay away and make better choices. We had a bachelor party with seven guys and needed a last-minute yacht reservation. We were stressed, scrambling to get everything together, and honestly weren't sure if we'd even be able to make it happen. Then we found Shoreline Boat Rentals, and Captain Dave completely saved the day. From the beginning until the moment we said goodbye, Dave's customer service was second to none. Even with such short notice, he had the yacht cleaned, prepped, and ready to go. When we arrived, he had a checklist ready to make sure we didn't forget anything in our vehicles before we left the dock. It sounds simple, but when you're trying to organize a bachelor party, little things like that make a huge difference. He took all the stress off our shoulders so we could focus on having fun. The yacht itself was absolutely beautiful--honestly, the pictures on the website don't do it justice. It's even more impressive in person, and it was spotless from front to back. What impressed me most was Dave's attention to detail. I needed a screwdriver to fix one of our water guns, and before I knew it, Dave showed up with one and even fixed it for me. That's the kind of customer service you just don't see very often. Once we got to Devil's Cove, Dave went above and beyond. He helped grill burgers, made sure everyone had food, drinks, and plenty of ice, and kept checking in to make sure everyone was having a great time. It honestly felt like his mission was to take all the thinking out of the day so we could just relax and enjoy ourselves--and he absolutely accomplished that. Safety was also a top priority. Before we left the dock, Dave clearly explained the rules while the boat was underway and while it was anchored. Everything was straightforward, easy to understand, and he made sure everyone stayed safe without taking away from the fun. Pulling into Devil's Cove was one of the highlights of the day. We cruised in with the music playing, the yacht looked incredible, and it definitely turned some heads to get the attention we wanted! It made for an unforgettable bachelor party. Captain Dave didn't just provide a yacht--he created an experience. He turned what could have been a stressful, last-minute situation into one of the best days we've had together. 10/10 across the board: customer service, professionalism, cleanliness, safety, and the overall experience. I hired Austin for a 40th birthday party at a private residence to provide some live entertainment and ambiance while the guests mingled and had drinks/appetizers. It was the perfect addition to the party, and many guests commented on how great the music was. Even the catering staff were very complementary. Austin was very professional, courteous, and was able to incorporate our favorite jazz standards into his set list (which lasted about two hours). I listen to a fair amount of jazz, my wife's father was a concert pianist, so I feel I have a reasonable point of reference when I say this was live jazz music at its best! I recently hired Austin Kimble and his quartet to perform at my private event in Texas. It was such a pleasure having his music at our party that I will certainly be calling him again -- definitely for our SXSW party if he isn't already booked! For our last party, we hired him for 3.5 hours, and it was worth every cent. He performed solo piano for the first 30 minutes or so and then he joined his band who was setting up in the meantime. It was a wonderful evening with his quartet, which had his newlywed wife as the jazz singer and also a drum-set and a standup bass. We came to Greg with a vision for our wedding reception - once the dance floor opened, we wanted our reception to be a real PARTY. We wanted every song to be a "banger." We wanted everyone on the dancefloor until the lights turned back on. As inspiration, I shared an 11 hour playlist with Greg; the playlist spanned decades of music and covered multiple genres. Greg's expertise is unparalleled, and somehow he interpreted this messy mind dump of songs and delivered a set list that was beyond anything we could have imagined. And, I want to be clear, this wasn't a copy / paste job. It didn't feel like the standard wedding mix. Greg mixed in his magic and developed a curated list of songs that kept our guests on the dancefloor for 3 hours straight. Each song was better than the last. It was amazing!!! Greg also helped us navigate the music and vibes for the cocktail hour and dinner period. We hadn't put much consideration into this aspect of planning. We very much appreciated his advice. The music created a welcoming and fun ambiance for us and our guests. I'd also recommend hiring a saxophonist (Greg can source!). We had the sax player during cocktail hour and dinner and our guests loved that touch. In summary, Greg & team were INCREDIBLE and exceeded expectations across the board

We met Kent at an open house event at Avery Ranch Golf Club. He was very professional and answered…read moreevery question we had for him. We decided to go ahead and book him for our Daughter's Sweet 16. A couple of months before our event, I wanted to go over a timeline, particular songs and a father/daughter dance mix that my daughter wanted him to create. Kent was able to provide the mix we needed & informed me that there was no need to provide a list of songs because they pretty much know the type of songs that are popular with that age group. I should've provided a song list regardless of what was discussed, but with his reviews & with the great father/daughter mix he created...I trusted him. Day of event...everything looked fine, the set up & the lights. There was just one huge problem. The "DJ" that was there informed my husband that only one speaker is working but that it should be fine. During our dinner portion of the evening we had decided months before that we would have a slide show of our daughter that would be shown while everyone was enjoying dinner. (This was part of our venue package & didn't include the DJ) So as dinners rapping up everyone was ready to break out their dancing shoes, but the selection of songs this DJ was playing weren't at all popular to the crowd. My husband approached him several times to tell him that the ONE speaker provided wasn't working properly or that he needed to adjust the treble. You would think that a "DJ" would know that. His attitude wasn't professional at all, his demeanor wasn't one of an individual whom belongs in this particular profession, he wasn't interacting or trying to hype up the guests, he sat in a chair the entire time and was constantly on his phone...texting...I guess. A whole hour of dealing with this ridiculousness, my husband called Kent & informed him of the problem and the complete dissatisfaction we had with the service provided by this individual. Kent informed my husband that he already knew of the situation and was sending someone to help with the problem. Almost two hours later Kent and another individual show up, but by that time the problem had already been resolved by Luke Marks our venues (Avery Ranch Golf Club) Food & Beverage Director. Before Kent arrived, Luke had been running around talking to the DJ trying to figure a way to connect their (the venues) sound system to the DJ's equipment. It seemed as if the DJ didn't have a clue as to what or how to do figure that all out. FINALLY after Luke, myself, my husband and some of the waitstaffs help we finally received connection through the venues sound system which helped make somewhat of what was left of my daughters night...which was only an hour or two that we had remaining toward the venue. Kent did apologize many times for the problem and asked how he could fix the situation, but by that time my husband was already displeased with all the inconvenience everyone who helped had to go through & how stressful it made us. We ended up only paying half of the remaining balance which was more than my husband was willing to pay. As helpful as Kent was, there's no repairing the damage done. Occasions such as a wedding or a young womens Sweet 16 are events that are suppose to imprint a great amount of unforgettable memories in their lives and this wasn't one for my daughter. Everyone knows that the dancing portion of the night is one of THE MOST important parts of the evening where a great majority of the fun is had & where your guests lets loose. This probably would've been a great night had we received the service promised. I'm sure Kent's DJ Service is great...but this particular individual was not.
