So, I initially thought I'd come here to express my surprise and gratitude for the care I received when I first decided to come to Austin ER last October. I went to a different urgent care closer to UT campus on Red River, and when they were chock full of college kids, I decided an ER that wasn't attached to a hospital was worth it given the upper abdominal pain I was feeling. APD was there when I arrived, as someone had smashed through a window, but despite the delay, they were nice and got me back to a room, an offsite ultrasound tech was called, and I was given Torodol and told I had a gallstone that may or may not cause me issues in the future. Happy to have answers, and ready to go home, I waited to be sent home. So this is when in retrospect it all went downhill. Shifts had changed, someone else came to remove my IV. After "ripping the bandaid off" which was an IV in this case, and telling me they "couldn't let me go home with my insides on my outside", they wiped away the red chunks that came out with my IV and sent me home. No worries - I had answers and it was a nice cozy room and they had brought me a warm blanket. Fast forward to a few days later, a red streak started to show up on my arm, and I started feeling a muscle pain that kept me from bending my arm. A few google searches and texts to my NP of a mother in law later, and I knew I should probably get it looked at. My partner and I were going to the Mueller HEB the following weekend, so I decided to stop by and ask if I should be concerned. The front desk told me they saw that I had been in the previous weekend, and to have a seat and they'd get my arm checked out. The doctor told me the IV had cause a blood clot in my arm, I needed hot compresses, some motrin and an Ace Bandage. Thankful it wasn't something more serious, I walked to the front desk, and asked them if I owed anything - I was told "no". I was extra grateful they weren't going to charge me for follow up for something cause by my initial visit. Fast forward, I get a bill for over $600 AFTER INSURANCE for an ace bandage and some motrin, for something that was a result of seeking care at this institution and being told I owed nothing. Assuming it was some sort of mistake, I called the ER, was told to call billing, was told to call the ER back, that they would have to tag it as a follow up, and then I wouldn't be billed. Called back, was told it couldn't be a follow up if it was more than a day or two later, explained I was told I wouldn't be charged as it was because of the IV being ripped out of my arm that I came back in the first place. Was told to call billing again, was told to call the ER again, have been told two or three times a lead would call me. At this point, I experienced pain in my arm for two months that kept me from being able to extend my arm, have called/been told multiple times someone would call me back, have not received one return call but have been sent multiple bills. The last time I was told a lead would contact me was last week... this started last October. Honestly just looking to talk to someone who can make this right and feeling driving to the point of writing a review to get it sorted. Avoid if possible. read more

GOING TO THIS PLACE ALMOST KILLED MY FRIEND If you want a masterclass in medical negligence, look no further. On August 19th my friend went to this facility--for additional context- he's 85% blind without his scleral contacts in, and doesn't drive. They were not in because he was shaking in pain and couldn't apply them. He then was picked up, and dropped off at 6am by a self driving car (not requested of course but thanks Austin) so with minimal vision, doubled over in pain and alone, you'd think it can't get any worse. (Spoiler alert, it does) The provider poked my friend's stomach for maybe five seconds, and declared it 'not life-threatening.' He was shoo'd away immediately. Hours later he was in emergency surgery having his appendix removed, it was torn hours prior, and according to the doctors at the different facility we went to, he almost bled out. Upon research appendicitis is one of the most basic emergencies they drill into medical training. But apparently, here, it was easier to roll the dice on my friend's life than actually run a scan or take him seriously. OR MAYBE NOT EVEN RUN A SCAN IF YOUR FACILITY CANNOT PROVIDE IT, JUST TO PROVIDE A SENSE OF URGENCY OR AT MINIMAL ???? CARE AND DIRECTION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. While I hope to never return to Austin Emergency Center, I am comforted that this high quality establishment exists nearby. Everyone I encountered was thorough, attentive and treated me with kindness. When I asked to pick up my records the following day, the receptionist gathered the documents and had them ready at the front within 5 minutes. I haven't received the bill yet so may need to update my review based on that experience. read more

I went to this location today and the provider I saw, Dr. Adams, was extremely patronizing and combative from the start of my visit. I felt very dismissed, even after her telling me she wasn't trying to be dismissive, which leads me to believe she was aware of her tone with me. I came to the emergency center on the advice of an after hours nurse hotline. She asked very condescending questions like "what do you expect from us treatment wise" and "what kind of tests do you want me to run" which I replied "I'm not a doctor I don't know!". I was extremely disappointed and frankly annoyed by her tone with me. I could have accepted the fact that there wasn't much they could do for me at this location, but I really could have done without her attitude. Patients deserve respect and professionalism and I did not experience that here. The receptionist and nurse were very kind, though. read more

This "Emergency Center" is nothing but a building filled with greedy people. I've been denied care here on 2 different occasions, first time I couldn't find my Veterans Affairs Identification card that has my insurance information so I told them I'd pay cash. They declined to see me. The second time was last night, I had just tested positive for the flu and I was severely dehydrated. I lost consciousness 2 times before I got to this place. I gave my Veterans Affairs ID and my drivers license, and I told the miserable old lady that was working there I couldn't fill out any papers and just to take my insurance and I explained I was going to vomit. She didn't care and told me to get out. I'm a disabled Veteran with health insurance, seems to me like this place just doesn't like taking Veterans Affairs insurance. Disgusting business that only cares about money. If you have an emergency you should NOT come here, unless you can sign a check before they help you. read more

That moment that you 4yr old tells you it stings when she pees on Christmas Eve .... when Christmas Eve is on Sunday .... I could not have asked for a better experience than we received at AEC, from the staff at the front desk through to the wonderful nurse & doctor, everyone did an amazing job of making my daughter feel comfortable & safe, all whilst explaining everything to her in a way she understood. So the experience at the emergency room itself was amazing! This review is mostly towards the billing department and how ridiculous they are when you use insurance. I was seen in April and ended up just receiving antibiotics, no procedure was done.... They charged my Insurance over $2000 and then also break themselves into 2 entities so they can charge you more. I paid my copay at time of visit and now I have received a bill asking for more money from the second entity that is separate from the actual hospital. When I went in October for another issue and had a literal procedure done I did it without Insurance and the cost was now the same as when I did it with insurance. This is a total scam and if you do go here I wouldn't recommend you use insurance if you can avoid. read more

I had a huge chest pain scare with shortness of breath so bad that I knew I needed to be hospitalized ASAP. I looked in the Mueller area for an ER but discovered this place on Google Maps. The reviews were great so I thought I would give it a try. The staff was incredible from the beginning -- they took my health's priority over the paperwork and immediately got me back for an EKG. Young was the most thorough nurse I've seen in my entire life, asking the most prevalent questions in order to assist Dr. Parvus in discovering what was wrong with my heart. Over the course of 5 hours, I was given the best care by Nurse Young -- he went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and pain free. I cannot recommend this place enough...it is worth every penny. A staff member called me the next day to see how I was and then later that evening nurse Young called to check on me as well! At this point I don't care how much this place costs after going to Ascension Seton Dell Medical and having a horrible experience the following day (they sent me home with a walker and ibuprofen). read more

Refused to see me before paying a minimum of $650 while I was in extreme pain & discomfort due to the fact that I didn't have life insurance. At the time I was on day 3 of not being able to eat because of how much pain I was in. I had a temperature of 102 right before deciding to go in. was then told because I wasn't in a life or death situation I couldn't be treated without giving a payment first. I had an outstanding experience at this location and could not recommend it enough. I had an accident late in the evening and arrived around 11:30p to no wait. The front desk staff was very kind and referred me to Young, the nurse in triage, to make sure I needed to be seen. Young saw me within seconds and was kind, professional, calm, and reassuring-- giving professional advise before sending me on my way with a checklist of things to look out for over the next couple of days. I wish all my experiences with ERs could be this positive. read more

Updating my review for my most recent personal disaster - not quite two weeks ago, I was doing some repairs around the house, and in the process, I managed to misstep over my lawn mower and bang my head on a metal shelf support. It really hurt, and I had a nice little goose egg, but dangit, I had things to do! So I didn't get it checked out that evening. The next day, I started feeling a bit off balance. And as the day went on, my head was hurting more and more, and ibuprofen wasn't even touching it. At that point it seemed like I should get some medical attention, and AEC is only a mile or so from my house, so I headed over there, thinking I'd probably need a CT scan to rule out a brain bleed, and I might have a concussion. When I explained the incident and my symptoms to the doctor, she said I needed a CT scan to rule out a brain bleed. They got me scanned pretty fast, and they also gave me some acetaminophen for the pain. It took a little while for the scan to be read, but the wait was not excessive. It turned out that I did not have a bleed, but the doctor said I likely had a concussion, and should take a few days to rest. I got a note for work, and some prescriptions for pain and nausea. I got my EOB for this visit today, and not gonna lie, they billed an outrageous amount. However, they do accept the insurance company's allowed amounts, and my insurance did cover it at the in-network rate, because by the prudent layperson standard, a potential brain bleed and probable concussion do count as a real emergency. There was also a separate and very small, relatively speaking, claim from Austin Radiological Association for the same date, which I assume is for reading the scan. If those are the only two claims/bills for this visit, it's not too bad, and well worth the peace of mind. read more

If you're reading this, chances are you need urgent care, and aren't really in any position to window-shop for emergency medical services. Certainly, this was the situation I was in when I was in the neighborhood with a dislocated shoulder and little interest in visiting more than one ER. That said, I feel like I stumbled into good hands at AMC-Mueller. Dr. Johnson and his team did a good job of diagnosing me, x-raying the injured bits, and getting me back out the door. I strongly recommend AMC-Mueller as an option for 24-hour emergency care in north central Austin. read more

Do not come here. The physician I saw was very dismissive of my concerns and super rude. I felt uncomfortable and left as he didn't even explain to me what he was going to do. As someone who is scared of invasive procedures, this one was going to be in eye, the doctor didn't even reassure me that things were going to be okay. In fact, he says, I've never deal th with this problem before. This a procedure for my EYEBALL. Please go somewhere else if you're in an emergency. This was a complete waste of time and money. I'd rather stay sick than go here. The only person that was nice to me was the receptionist and the male nurse. read more

I can't speak to the nurses and doctors at this location because I never saw them. This review is purely for the front desk. I came in last week for abdominal pain and I was pretty shocked at how quickly the woman at the front desk tried to talk me out of using AEC. When she asked what brought me in I told her I was having abdominal pain and was hoping to get an ultrasound and some labs. She immediately says that if I want an ultrasound there I'm going to have to wait an hour for them to call someone in to do it so it would make more sense for me to go to a hospital ER to get it done quicker. This is hilarious to me because I am an ER nurse and I know how wrong that statement is. I told her ok no problem which annoyed her so she then tells me that I'm going to get 3 bills and there's no way of telling me how expensive any of the care will be and that it's most likely going to be more expensive than a regular ER and again told me to go to Dell instead of AEC. Honestly, I was totally fine with all of the payments I was just tired of this woman doing everything in her power to convince me to go somewhere else. Now, looking back I realize I came in right before shift change and I'm sure she just didn't want to deal with me at the end of her shift but this was unreal. The reason I came here instead of my hospital is because I know how slow a regular ER can be if you're not having a life threatening emergency. I was also trying to avoid clogging up our very busy hospitals with something that could 100% be taken care of at a standalone. I left and went to Ally, they were amazing. In and out in a couple of hours with a GI follow-up and transparent billing. To be honest I'm writing this because I am appalled that someone would talk a pt out of receiving medical care that was absolutely appropriate for this standalone. Our hospitals are way too busy as it is, standalone ER's are a great resource for people that are in that gray area of needing medical attention quick but not necessarily needing to be seen at a busy hospital ER. This resource is so valuable to the community and also to our busy ER's because they can offload the massive influx of pts we see a day. But if you're talking people out of using your services it defeats the purpose. read more

The Mueller location of Austin Emergency Center was truly phenomenal. It's never fun to have to go to the ER, but having exceptional care makes it a much better experience. From the start, we felt very comfortable and in good hands. The Admissions Rep, Emily kindly and swiftly checked us in. Mitch, our Radiology Tech, and Emily, our nurse, were both personable and caring. Emily spent as much time with us as we needed so we could ask questions, and she made sure my fiancé was comfortable the entire time. Dr. Parvus was empathetic and explained everything to us in a way we could understand. We didn't feel like he was rushing to get to other patients. The facility itself is really nice. It feels like a brand new hospital with comfortable touches. They were able to administer IV medication and conduct a CT scan onsite. And when it was time to leave, they didn't rush out just so they could fill the bed with someone else. They made sure we were comfortable about leaving. We highly recommend Austin Emergency Center. Should we have any more minor emergencies in the future, we'll absolutely go back. read more

We were in a car the entire time and we just got swabbed. This is not an issue with our insurance. We all have different insurance. You can go here, but I warn you they are going to try to do some funky stuff with your insurance. Incredibly educated friendly staff and a good, easy, clearly marked, safe set up for Covid testing. They deal directly with insurance companies. We got results within a couple hours and the dr making the results calls didn't rush me through any questions I had. I felt valued and cared for. I didn't panic. They absolutely deeply care and even made calls to follow up on how I was feeling (I tested positive, my family tested negative, twice!) then followed up with calls to let us know they were working with insurance and to let us know about what was going on l, how to deal with any bills received and how they ensured we were covered. I cannot sing their praises highly enough. When I find myself in need again I will not hesitate to go there for treatment and have sent everyone I know there for their testing and emergency services. I am only giving this 3 stars because of Nurse Cass. She was amazing with patient care and I felt very comfortable talking to her. She has a great bedside manner and was an overall gem. Other than that, this place is not an emergency room. I would have rather gone to a hospital than here. 4-hour wait time to get labs back. We were waiting for our labs to come back when a radiology tech came in all of a sudden and said he was taking me to get a CAT scan. I was so confused because we haven't even spoken to the doctor yet. When I asked to speak to Dr. Poer, she came off as very rude and off-putting. She walked in, introduced herself, and asked what was going on. Why would she ask that when she ordered the CAT scan in the first place. When we were asking questions, she basically was beating around the bush on if it was necessary for us or not. We made the conscious decision to wade it out and not get a CAT scan since it wasn't absolutely necessary. We came to our own conclusion when Dr. Poer said that was the "right decision". The doctor should be guiding us on what is best. Instead, she would have rather given us an unnecessary test without even speaking to us about why I was receiving it. We also asked for recs for a PCP and other specialists that she could refer us to but when she gave us the list and we looked them up, we realized her list was outdated and they are not in practice at those locations anymore. Overall, maybe this was a bad experience one time, but I will be looking elsewhere for when/if situations like this happen. Beware of high bills and long wait times. read more

My husband was injured in a motor-scooter accident; he was skinned up badly, and needed to be seen quickly. Fortunately, Austin Emergency Center was available in Mueller and convenient for us. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. There was zero wait time involved, and my husband was able to be treated quickly. I highly recommend this facility for treatment when it's not required to visit a major hospital ER. read more

First of all, I feel very upset of how this placed decided not to fully examined my husband. My husband was feeling some heart attack symptoms, we came for a check up! The personal was sweet and very professional, they did tests (blood tests, heart attack test and heart scan) I'm glad everything came out okay so they recommend us to visit his primary doctor which we did the next day, my husband has higher blood pressure we needed to get him a prescription. Next day, the first thing his doctor said was that the emergency place we went the prior day ruled out 'stroke' when they should've not! they did not provide a CT Scan for him. Wtf!! I don't know much about what needs to be done at emergency centers but the primary doctor said that any emergency should've done that, because of the symptoms he was having! Now, she send us back to another emergency center to complete this CT scan ASAP! Here we are waiting for this SCAN TO BE DONE! Double paying $$$ another emergency visit! read more
