Doctor Askew preformed a cholecystectomy on me 2 days ago. I had a gallstone giving some trouble and we decided together that I should have my gallbladder removed . It took 50 minutes and recovery has been far easier than expected. Prior to the surgery I met with him and he was such a nice man and educated me on the procedure. He even consoled me regarding my anxiety. I am so happy with how I was treated by him and the other staff involved. Highly recommend him! read more

Went for skin sparing mastectomy and Dr. Brandt mistakenly removed my nipples. I can never get that back. Would NEVER recommend him.

This review is more for John Abikhaled. I don't have any experience with any of the other surgeons. My first experience with Dr. Abikhaled was pretty scary. I had a 3 day old burst appendix, I was septic and in and out of conciousness. I passed out from the pain at my desk and was rushed into surgery. I was awake briefly when Dr. Abikhaled was doing a quick pre-op exam as I was being prepped. He pressed on my lower abdomen to see how bad the pain was and I nearly punched him in the face. instead, I passed out again. Dr. Abikhaled saw me again after the surgery to explain what had happened to me. I thought my pain was a non issue and my macho attitude nearly killed me. Dr. Abikhaled saved my life. I have been back to see him for two other procedures, both inguinal hernia repairs. Both complex. Every time, his prefessionalism and skill have led to faster recoveries and better health. If you have a friend that is a doctor, ask him for his top recommendations for a surgeon in Austin. I promise Dr. Abikhaled will be on that list. I hope you never need a surgeon, but if you do, this guy is the man. read more

I went into my regular doctor a couple weeks ago complaining about a pain in my right side. Shooting, intense, flashes of green across your eyes, kind of pain. I thought maybe I'd just pulled a muscle, but something just felt off. It even hurt to drive, let alone walk. After a very long, unpleasant, and all together awkward physical, (my doctor was out, so I was referred to another... young female doctor... know i shouldn't care... but geez) I was informed that I had a severely torn muscle in my abdomen. How'd it happen? Who knows. But I guess that 7 minute mile's gonna have to wait a while now. This earned me a referral to Dr. Abikhaled's office. His Goldblum-like demeanor instantly put me at ease. He spotted the tear immediately. And then helped me back to my feet (I hit the floor when he found it). Yes, surgery was a must. "Your pain shall increase a thousand fold daily." Or something like that. And he was right. So, he scheduled it a week later. No long waiting time. He and his staff really, really worked with my budget to make sure it could happen. I'm self-employed, self pay, and he didn't even bat an eye. He said when he saw something this severe, he "just couldn't let it go." He even ordered a set of chest x-rays, just be sure I didn't have walking pneumonia before the surgery (they thought my pre-existing cough may had caused the muscle tear). Overboard? Maybe, but he discounted the rate on them so much it really made sense to do it. Even the anesthesiologist he brought in was laid back, professional, and reassuring. I told him I was a singer, and would prefer not to have a tube down my throat (really damages vocal chords) if possible. No problem. The nurse had said I'd only be mildly sedated. No. I wanna be out. No problem. Dream Land it is. To the tune of Grizzly Bear I drifted off. While I was still snoozin' Dr. Abikhaled told my father it went easy breezy. He also checked on me in the recovery room. Thanks Doc. Fast forward to today. 2 inch scar? Check. Slight limp? Check. Incredibly bad, gut wrenching pain gone? Check. I hope to never see Dr. Abikhaled again in my life (unless, of course in passing at the movies/dinner). BUT to those in need of a good surgeon, I could not recommend him any more highly. People usually meet their surgeons one of two ways. #1 You discover you have a health issue that needs resolved through surgical means. You talk to your primary who then refers you to a surgeon or two or three. You visit with them, you do your homework and move forward with the surgery as planned. Or #2. You find yourself in a situation where you need surgery NOW and you could careless who does it as long as they have M.D. after their name and they can make the pain stop! My surgery fell under #2 but lucky for me Dr. Mark Lindsey of Austin Surgeons was my surgeon. I met Dr. Lindsey while recovering from another surgery. He was asked to take a look at me and assess the situation, I am very glad he did. As you can imagine the situation was less then perfect but at no point did he appear unsure or insensitive. He was thorough and thoughtful, he did his best to make sure I fully understood what was going on and what needed to be done to correct it. He was compassionate, kind and available to my family to answer their questions and concerns. After a successful surgery I did follow up with him at his office and found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. I hope to never have to use his services again but if I do or any of my family or friends do I would not hesitate to recommend him. read more

Can I give 20+ stars for Dr John Abikhaled? Long story short.... Went to ER with massive pain and discomfort. Nurse asked what pain level from 1 to 10. I told her 8 and she said "Girl, I think you're at a 12". Never been to a hospital or had surgery plus being new in town. Was I scared and nervous - HELL YA! I was in the hospital for almost a week. Dr. Abikhaled has the most awesome bedside manner. He really cares for his patients and is VEEEERY thorough. Several of the staff in the hospital told me he's an excellent physician and that they referred their family members to him. I wish he could be my primary physician. read more

Before my experience with Dr. John Abikhaled, I was seriously terrified of surgery and general anesthesia. I am a young, fit female but I had been suffering for months from painful gallstone attacks. This girl loves eating chicken wings while watching football and basketball. My doctor referred me to Dr. Abikhaled. I am so thankful that he did!! Dr. Abikhaled was so kind and gentle with me. I explained that I was willing to suffer indefinitely from the horrendous child labor-like pains rather than have surgery with general anesthesia. He patiently listened to all of my irrational fears and answered all of my crazy questions. He walked me through the laparoscopic procedure using the da Vinci system and slowly helped ease my anxiety about anesthesia. The surgery was so simple!! I cannot believe I allowed myself to suffer for so long. I had soreness a few days afterward, but the walking helped greatly. I must also mention that the anesthesiologist, nurses and support staff at Seton Medical Center on 38th St. were AMAZING!! I am so very grateful to Dr. Abikhaled. This review is for the Dr. Livingston and his staff, especially his nurse Jennie. I sought out Dr. Livingston because my research showed he had the most experience in Austin performing the surgery I needed. I had already talked to one surgeon and wasn't happy with the things he said, so I interviewed Dr. Livingston next. And when I say interviewed, I'm not kidding. When it comes to medical stuff, I'm pretty hardcore about being my own advocate for my treatment, and Dr. Livingston is totally OK with that. Some doctors, I have found, do not like for patients to question them, Dr. Livingston is not one of those doctors! He answered all of my questions and made me feel confident that he knew exactly what needed to be done and could do it well with minimally invasive surgery. When the day came for the surgery, he came in to talk to me before the procedure and was very detailed in explaining exactly to me and my husband how the next hour would go for both of us. When my surgery was over, he spoke to my husband in detail to explain what he'd done during the surgery. After the procedure, when I'd been home for a couple of days, there were some concerns and Jennie was wonderful at helping me over the phone and getting me taken care of. I felt like she had a great knowledge of my issue as well, which is quite different than I've seen from the nurses at other doctors I've seen during this time. Now I'm done and don't have to go back to Dr. Livingston, but I'd recommend him highly in the future! read more

Dr. Meynig took care of me. I had no idea that my gallbladder was in the issue. Old people have those problems and I'm only 33 years old!! But alas it had to come out and that is where Dr. Meynig comes in. He took the time to explain the surgery, answer my questions, and most impartially did an incredible job in the operating room. My surgery took longer than usual, the gallbladder was in bad shape. He managed to keep the entire procedure laparoscopic--no big cuts, and that was amazing. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the front office staff is hit and miss. However, if i ever needed another surgery again Meynig gained my trust, and I highly recommend his service. read more

Dr. Jeffrey Meynig is an amazing physician. I had a few painful episodes from gall stones alerting me to a problem. After blood work and ultrasound I was referred to this office by my primary care physician and I'm so glad I was as the whole office was wonderful to work with. It was easy to locate their office building and the ease of parking in the lot outside the building was the best. Dr. Meynig's staff was helpful and truly great to work with. Dr. Meynig is friendly and explained every step of the way before and after my gall bladder surgery. He is focused on helping his patients. My incision healed quickly and I had no problems during surgery or recovery. Excellent experience all the way around! I am writing this recommendation for Dr. Mark Lindsey and his team at the Seton NW Hospital in Austin. Recently I had an emergency situation with a totally blocked bowel and a hernia which needed immediate repair. Dr. Lindsey was called by the ER team at Seton and was there to help me within the hour. I was very impressed not only by his expert knowledge as a experienced surgeon, but also as a care giver and great bedside manner. That sort of thing is important to me, and I really appreciated the way he explained things to me and also he was a good listener as well. My regular provider recommended Dr. John Abikhaled for surgery for my hernia. Dr. A saw me immediately, asked when I would like to get it done and made the arrangements. On the day of the surgery he was prompt and confident and explained the procedure in detail. The surgery went without incident and he sent me home the same day. Turns out it was a double hernia, so I got two for the price of one! Recovery was swift and uneventful. If he errs, it is on the side of caution. By this I mean he wants you to take it easier longer than your own instincts dictate. I have no hesitation in giving Dr. Abikhaled my very highest recommendations. read more

Top-notch surgeons. I had an open hernia repair, and it went so well that I didn't have to take any pain medication at all Dr. Abikhaled was not only a great surgeon, but he appears to be ahead of the curve on technology. Using a leave in anesthetic and closing the incision with glue instead of staples were really nice touches that few of the other surgeons that I contacted could do. I was fortunate to be referred to Dr. Meynig with Austin Surgeons by my PCP ... Being new to Austin, I found out that I was going to have to have surgery... I made my appointment.. Downloaded all my forms for my appointment and had them all filled out before my appointment ..The office was very easy to find...The office has a private parking area easy to park and a Nice building... The staff went above and beyond the call of duty... I was informed by the office that they were having a insurance issue... And to contact my insurance carrier ... After contacting my insurance carrier, they advised me to go their website and pick another surgeon off their list ... I was very uncomfortable doing that and call Dr. Meynig's office back and ask if I can print out the list of surgeons, if they would help me pick one... and they said "of course.... " I did. and Dr. Meynig picked several surgeons for me... BUT the best part of this review is when I got home, I got a call from Dr. Meynig's office informing me that Dr. Meynig ask his insurance department to see if they cohld help me and they DID!!! Dr. Meynig even switch hospitals so I would be (in network) ... I went for my final follow-up appointment yesterday after surgery and everything is perfect ! Well, no one likes to have to have a surgeon, but I'm proud to say my surgeon is Dr. Livingston. I was diagnosed with gallstones and was recommended to another facility. I wanted to do some research before choosing who I wanted operating on me. I've worked in healthcare for over 20 years and know some of the best recommendations come from the NURSES that work with the doctors. So... I asked around and Dr. Livingston got consistently solid recommendations for being an excellent surgeon. This was my first experience on the patient side of interacting with a surgeon and am happy to report that Dr. Livingston took the time to make sure I was well informed of my options, risks, post op recovery time, etc. His medical assistant, Jennie was really helpful with my surgery scheduling and was very accessible when I had questions about the procedure and follow-up etc. She really helped me feel comfortable when I had some anxiety post surgery. The surgery itself (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) was uncomplicated and there was hardly any scar tissue to speak of. The billing office helped me when I had some questions about my insurance. If you're gonna have to have surgery, I'd go with these guys. I have no complaints about any aspect of the care they provided to me. read more

Dr Abikaled I have heard is awesome, and I really would like to see him. I have made two appointments and no luck getting is as of yet. The first time I waited two hours and had to leave because I had work to attend to. Second time I went on a wild goose chase at the North Location. When I finially found location the staff was not in and their was a giant party for a bunch of OBGYN'S at this location. The staff failed to inform me that at this location the doctors name was not listed and he shared an office with an OBGYN. I tried calling to make third apt and got some rather rude woman to told me to call main number so I did. I got this rude woman again and she told be to call back later on this after noon. At that point I hung up and used some rather flow language to my wall. This surgen probably is great, but I would not know because I have not made it in to the doctor. I was referred to Dr. Mark Lindsey by my gastroenterologist. I had a significant gallstone and needed to have my gallbladder removed. I was able to get an appointment quickly. I filled out my paperwork ahead of time and when I arrived for my appointment, I got in quickly. Dr. Lindsey came in very quickly - I wasn't left lingering in the exam room as is often the case at doctor appointments. Dr. Lindsey is warm and easy to talk to. He had me describe my pain and what had been done thus far. Then he looked over the ultrasound results that had been sent to him and agreed that surgery was the only option. He explained why it was the only option and went into detail about how the procedure would be done. The only question left was how quickly I could get it scheduled. Gallstone attacks are awful and every day I left my gallbladder in there, the more chance of an attack I had so I wanted it out ASAP. If he could have taken me to surgery then and there, I would have gone. He gave me the option of having my surgery either at Seton and staying overnight, or having it outpatient at Medical Park Tower Surgery Center. I chose the latter because I didn't want to stay in the hospital. They were able to get me an appointment for the following Monday at 9:30am. The scheduling staff was quick and efficient everything was handled very well. No one wants to have to have surgery but Dr. Lindsey was top notch! read more

Dr John Abikhaled M.D. is the Best!! I had the second Inguinal hernia I have had. He was friendly professional and just a nice fellow! He sent me to the AMAZING Central Park Surgery by the Heart Hospital! Last time with a different guy I went to Bailey Square. What a horror story! They made my wife pick me up and walk me around because my blood pressure was dropping dangerously low! No such crap at Central Park! Dr John and his Anesthesiologist were kick ass and even took a blood sample to be sure I would be fine! And I am!! I am already almost already healed! let me tell you ! Hernias SUCK suck suCk no matter how you capitalize it! If they mess up the repair even slightly it will hurt you for the rest of you life! Most dudes and a lot of ladies get hernias so be careful and don't wait too long before you get them fixed! For me it feels like someone kicking you in the Balls very slowly all day long! Sexy times can hurt! Be careful where you go to get it repaired though! The repair on my left side always hurts and probably always will! The new repair feels fine! One more week and I can work and ride my Bike! Thanks Dr John ! Please take my advice dudes and dudettes go see him if you got a Hernia! I got my life back You should too ! :D read more

I met Dr. Mark Lindsey in the pre-op of Seton NW hospital with acute appendicitis. An ultimate professional. His "bed side manner" is exceptional. He gave me all the scenarios and the complications. He was matter of fact, but his smile was genuine and caring. I immediately trusted him. I had no family waiting, just a good friend. He took the time after surgery to visit with her and let her know all was good. The next day, he made his rounds and checked in with me. He greeted me with that smile. We talked, and he listened to what I had to say. After I was released, I had an appointment the next week at his office. Once again that smile greeted me. Let me start off by saying that I waited until all my mothers care had been taken care of with this horrible place before I even wrote this review. I wanted to make sure there was no retaliation as I have heard through the grapevine(after my moms surgery) that this is what this office does. This is absolutely the WORST place Ive EVER been to. Front desk lady...rude. No smile, no hello, nothing. Maybe she was having a bad day. So what? Get over it. She looked at us as if WE were bothering her. She was too busy on her phone and stuffing her face with food. I could hear both of the african girls talking about inappropriate things that arent meant for us patients to hear. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!. My mom seen Dr. Glover and he has no idea what a great surgeon means. This kid looks fresh out of college and his inexperience shows. He was late to begin with then he stayed glued to his phone while in the room. My mother needed the surgery and this was the only place that would work with us regarding pymnt so basically she got stuck with this office. Day of surgery was bad. He has no bedside manner. Felt like we were treated like a number. Her post-op visit was not any better. Girl at the front desk was guess what? Yup! On her phone AGAIN! Is this really what a so called GOOD OFFICE wants the patients to see everytime we come in? Dr. Glover is absolutely the last person I would recommend. I beg you all who read reviews before you go someplace. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANY SURGERY. Theres tons of places that have better surgeons and staff. I spoke with a lady regarding my payment also, Marybeth. Wow!! If looks could kill. She gives you a horrible look like "you cant pay for surgery"?? She says it rude but with a smile. I figured shes just a bitter old lady who lives with a lot ofcats. Im astonished that this place has gotten so many good reviews. I overheard staff talking bad about Dr. Glover and another doctor PLUS some of the other staff that work there. Loud as if they were alone. Okay so the whole group is by far outstanding. I work for a well known cancer facility in Austin and this group has done everything possible to be accommodating to patients that are about to undergo the most frightening thing possible, starting chemo. The office staff has NEVER been rude,and always is polite and helpful to the patients we send over there. Kathy the scheduler is OUTSTANDING and Yesenia is STELLAR! The girls there are great and support a wonderful group of Doc's. I myself see Dr Abikhaled who has "cut me" twice. He is a wonderful surgeon and in my personal opinion the best in town. I have to agree he is a bit "Jeff Goldbloom-ish" but he is amazing and has the best bedside manner a patient could as for. He called with my results without me having to bug their office and explained everything to me in detail. After my surgery he explained everything to my "medically stupid" fiancee. Just going to add to the accolades but they are well deserved. Review is specific to Dr Mynig and his staff. Abdominal mass was found by me and confirmed by my primary doctor and cat scan was done at a local hospital in Yoakum. Referred to Austin surgeons by a friend. Dr Mynig was one of two in the group who accepted our insurance so as you can see arriving here was almost random. From the initial phone contact the treatment was personable, caring and fairly low key. All appreciated. Dr Mynig seemed concerned about my health from the 1st time we met. Mine was not an easy diagnoses as it turned out to be the rarest of tumors but Dr Mynig proceeded with caution and deliberation. Each step was clearly explained and every option was considered. He took my well being and feelings into consideration with every move. Surgery was as we had expected or better and care following the procedure was as outstanding as the preparation. Good people to put your trust in at difficult times. There is not enough I can say. Eternally grateful. read more

In February 2013 a condition which I had lived with for years seemed to be getting worse and worse, one of the only solutions for maintaining a normal life was to have a preventative surgery that would not solve the issue, but make living easier. My GI indicated to me that Dr. Victor at Austin Surgeons was very well versed in this surgery and I'm so glad I followed his lead. I'm leery of any surgery, so I was nervous at the outset. Dr. Victor was amazingly easy to reach and schedule an appointment and when I had my initial appointment we discussed the procedure in great detail, he was not short with me and allowed me to ask as many questions as possible and in the meantime went to great lengths to explain what the surgery would entail, what to expect pre and post surgery and all things related to surgery. And I mean he really took the time to listen to me and my concerns and was so compassionate in his dealings. When surgery time rolled around Dr. Victor's positive attitude and outlook before and during recovery were nothing short of amazing - it wasn't just a "check-in", he spent time to see how I was recovering and ensure my comfort, he also made my wife very comfortable with all that was going on with recovery. It was a testament to him that a couple of the floor nurses who were schedule to leave, stuck around since they knew Dr. Victor was on the floor, they appreciated him that much. I've since referred someone from the Central Texas area with the same condition who was desperate to find a surgeon for the same issue (and couldn't find a good one in the Temple area), she couldn't thank me enough for recommending Dr. Victor. Long story short, I don't feel like this group had the best interests for my health. They seemed "too busy" to really care for my needs. My initial visit was fine...I did sit in the waiting room for about 30 minutes. My consultation with the doctor was also fine, no complaints. He told me to call his assistant to schedule the surgery. This is where it all went down hill. I called three times and left a voicemail each time and the assistant never called me back. Finally the forth time I called, she answered and seemed very disorganized. She told me that the doctor did not "put in the orders" for my surgery and therefore could not really help me. She also told me that I would have to come back in for another consultation, AND she asked me if I would like to have a robot do the surgery. The robot comment threw me off because the doctor never mentioned anything about a robot. Lastly...I have called again 3 more times to get my surgery schedule and again, no return calls. If they are NOT returning my called prior to the surgery, how are they going to be post surgery. I recommend you find another surgery group. read more

My experience involved hernia repair and Dr. Abikhaled. I was very pleased with the manner and performance of Dr. Abikhaled during the pre-op visit, surgery, and post-op visit. His staff are very efficient and personable as well. Pre and Post Op instructions were explicit and covered all the necessary potential issues, resulting in minimal pain and swelling.
