Very cute decor inside, but a bit before the time Portillo's was established in Chicago. The…read moreemployees here range from young and frightened to more mature and used to engaging with customers. Just something I observed. Since the creator, Dick Portillo is a north sider, they favor giardiniera on the beef rather than sweet green peppers like old school southsiders in Chicago do. Plus my request for a little red sauce on top, which really puzzled the cashier, so I had to explain it's like marinara, was a no go. They don't have any. I had to do a count down with the guy making the sandwich to get a proper submerge for the dip so it would be wet. BTW, you have no idea how that red sauce will make a beef sandwich sing! The Chicago dog was well prepared, but the bottom of the bun opened up about 3/4 of the way thru eating it, so had to really work at not losing the rest of the dog and the toppings all over the plate. A bit of a battle ensued. While everything was okay, the beef especially didn't have nearly the amount of flavor you'd get at a mom n pop joint in Chicago, which are everywhere. I guess when you can't get the Real thing, beggers can't be choosers.

This location is atrocious. We placed a large catering order - spoke with TWO managers, neither said thank you, no "my pleasure", just incredibly rude people. Meanwhile, this was not a rush hour, all hands on deck time of the day, it was 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon. In addition, the location was dirty - there were scuff and dirt marks on the floor near the front entrance, and paper items on the ground in the bathroom. Just a bad experience - not to mention we purchased over $500 with of food. Forget about the ordering process - we called close to 5 hours in advance and spent a solid 30 mins on hold as the catering service could not get a hold of the store, as no one would answer the phone! Overall, just an awful location, rude managers, dirty and gross, zero personality that makes dining at Chic-fil-a the typical pleasurable experience. My advice, someone else in Springfield should open a competing Chic-fil-a...you'd put this location out of business in about a week.

The chicken tenders were the best I have ever had at a fast-food-type restaurant, and everything came out fresh and fast! I especially loved the atmosphere. The whole car-themed decor gives the restaurant such a fun, nostalgic feel, which fits perfectly with a Springfield Route 66 adventure. It feels like more than just grabbing a quick bite! You get a little taste of that classic road-trip nostalgia while you eat. Everyone was so friendly and ready to help us out too! My only complaint was that I wish they had thicker, sturdier straws for the malts and milkshakes. I had to wait for mine to melt so I could sip on it finally. I would totally come back to this fun spot anytime I get the chance and definitely recommend giving it a try!
