I had already had dinner elsewhere but this Cracker Barrel tolerates overnight RV parking with designated spots available. I pulled up, secured the Sprinter van, and went to sleep. A quiet night and when I woke up, there were two other RVs in the lot that had arrived after. Breakfast time! I had a simple breakfast, the "Old Timer's" gets it done for me. My coworkers and I visit this location on a very regular basis for lunch. Staff are always accommodating and service is always the best. Hazel is very attentive to all of her tables and always brings refills before you can even ask. The general manager Shawn is awesome. I love to see GM's working along side their employees. We were on our way to Springfield and our usual restaurant was closed (no idea why) so we kept driving and saw the Cracker Barrel sign. Hubby pulled off the interstate! Went to dinner at Cracker Barrel, we were informed that only two servers showed up for work. So it was going to take quite a while. We waited over 20 minutes just to get our drinks another 15 minutes past before our order for food was taken. Our drinks were wrong. We placed our order for food to find out that four of the items were out and either had to be substituted or taken off, the biscuits were rock pucks. I was really upset to see that Cracker Barrel Springfield Illinois essentially put grill marks on raw chicken and served it. When I called the manager Cexplained that they were in the middle of a rush and they had a brand new cook. Is it acceptable to serve raw chicken/ cut corners with food safety because you have a lot of customers? Or someone being brand new messing up chicken due to lack of experience? I'm assuming Cracker Barrel has food handler requirements for even new employees. I have real concerns for other customers. Decided on Cracker Barrel for dinner , my roommate had a free dessert for his birthday coupon. Waitress waited on us was very loud and annoying. I ordered the grilled tenders dinner with mashed potatoes, steak fries, broccoli. The plate came out looking like this . Covered in that mess from the chicken. It should have been cleaned up before sent to the table . The steak fries had sugar on them instead of salt . The mashed potatoes was a potato they had just mashed and didn't mix up and add milk or butter or anything to . Just coated in gravy. The fire was not lite was hoping it would be as it was below 50 degrees out side . The bathroom had shit on one of the walls and paper laying around everywhere. When pay & leaving the free desert of my roommates ended up not being free because they said it was an appetizer and not a dessert when the waitress said it was a dessert. Two tables that were seated after us received there food before us. Finally about 530PM we received order. Wife was happy with hers. She had the fried fish with a loaded baked potato. Could have made a meal just from the potato. Mine on the other hand left a lot to be desired. Had the country fried steak, mashed potato's with sawmill gravy. I would bet the country fried steak came pre breaded and frozen. Had no flavor what so ever. In other words BLAND. The same for the mashed potato's and gravy. Absolutely no flavor. I've gone here several times over the years and the food is always great. The biscuits are my personal favorite, always fluffy and light. Today we had a relatively long wait from the time we were seated until our server came over, but she apologized profusely and comped our drinks for the wait, which was very kind.
