Ended up in Taylorville around dinner time and happened across Nesty's. Great atmosphere and service! Food was good and prices reasonable. We would stop back in when through town next time.

Another testament to Nesty's in Taylorville! Tried it for lunch. Nice, comfortable atmosphere downtown, (I love the exposed brick!). Interesting and inventive menu. Mostly burgers and sandwiches, with a few salads, but then, it is advertised as a burger joint! All options looked like winners. We had to keep watching as different orders came out so we could decide what to get next time! We started with the fried avacados. Who knew that was a thing?!! The coating was wonderfully crunchy and the avacado was pleasantly creamy. Served with ranch dressing, which we would have preferred with a bit more kick,....so we just added pepper. All fixed! Good starter. My husband got the chicken avacado sandwich, which he said was very tasty. I had Le Tropicale with chicken, which was a great and interesting combination of chicken, grilled pineapple, guacamole, bacon, spinach and a fried jalapeño. (I loved the jalapeño.). I needed to add a bit of salt to my sandwich, but I would ALWAYS prefer my food under salted to over salted. Both sandwiches were huge! After a few bites of mine I lost control and had to resort to my knife and fork, but that was fine with me. My husband did the same. He had the onion rings. Very good. I had the sweet potato fries--probably the best I have had, anywhere. Big portions! I'll be having sweet potato fries for lunch tomorrow! The servers were attentive and pleasant and the cooks got the food out fast. Nesty's is going to be one of those places we keep going back to, because there are so many good things to try on the menu.

They brought me the wrong sandwich. They also overcharged what was advertised. Just an ok sandwich.

The food at Nesty's is ALWAYS good! The service is fantastic - especially when seated downstairs, but it's hard to beat the view upstairs!

I think we've now experienced all the aspects of this fine establishment: the beer, the whiskey,…read morethe food, and the overnight accommodations! I highly recommend all of the above. We recently got a room at the Red Rooster; booking online was easy and prices were reasonable. We were in town on Christmas Day, so the bar (brewery, distillery, restaurant) was closed. We didn't see any staff; we had a key code for the building and for our room. Our room was upstairs, and a couple of staircases were available (I don't recall whether there's an elevator). Everything was clean and cozy. After going out for the night, we thought we'd enjoy the lounge area and game room, but the game room wasn't accessible (turns out it's part of the bar). The lounge space was available; there weren't a lot of lights on except for those on the Christmas tree and other decorations, which was just fine for sitting a bit. Checkout the next morning was easy, and we were cheerfully greeted by staff when we came down. About the bar: on more recent visit we stopped in for dinner. Patrons were enjoying the patio and bar space; an adjoining room, game room, and loft space were also available. We took barstools and received great service there. Restaurant: Order food with your server and you'll get a text when it's ready; pick up is at the window in the game room. The 1/4 pound burger seemed to be a bit less so; it was a thin "smashed" burger with cheddar and some really good sauce, on a bun that was unnecessarily coated in butter or oil. Side salad was fresh and crispy, and house-made ranch was exceptionally good. Fries are the coated-double-fried sort, and served plenty hot. Every dish we tried was tasty. Distillery: so far all that's ready to serve is "white whiskey" -- raw unaged spirits with quite a kick! We tried it on the rocks and it was as expected; I'll wait for some aging before I have it in a cocktail, but I love that the option's available! Brewery: The beer list was impressive -- although there may be a mistake, as the Chava Wheat was marked as "gluten sensitivity friendly" (I'm pretty sure wheat is pretty gluteny!) That one--Chava Wheat--is a blood orange wheat "with a hint of raspberry" and was easily my fave. They brew several lagers and IPAs, a stout, and seasonals. This is a great one-stop for a night out, a road trip stop, or a small-town getaway for city folks! To make a longer day of it, shop Main Street, take in a show at the theater, and grab breakfast at one of the nearby cafés the next morning. Cheers!

Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Tour Amazing Brewery Race Stop 1 of 2 for ILLINOIS…read more We drove about 1.5hrs to hit one of the two add-on breweries for Illinois in the Hop Passport. Due to the weird Illinois laws on alcohol, they offered 10% off foid/merch in the book. The staff was unfamiliar with the passport & called overall 2nd staff person. They said it wasn't valid -discount denied. We still opted to eat & drink here. Each of us selected a beer and a dish. I went with the rooster salad, which was an excellent flavor combination & I really needed something greens! The chicken on it, however, was dry and took away from the salad - so, I took it off & enjoyed my salad without the chicken. The hubs opted for the grown-up grilled cheese and it was pretty tasty. Exactly what it sounds like. As this location probably doesn't see much in the way of the Hop Passports, it's not too shocking that they weren't aware of it. The prices were plenty reasonable enough to not feel put out by it either. The entire place is quirky, with "Easter eggs" throughout, a fun / tasty menu & an overall good vibe. It's certainly a gorgeous stop.

Even though it completely destroyed the building, it wasn't the end. This story inspired us to come to check it out. After poking around in Decatur awhile, we came for the awesome beer. It's kind of a ways to get to Assumption, on some lonely highway. The restaurant in town, DJ's has some of this on tap. Because this place is only open Fridays and Saturdays, you can go there when the brewery is closed. The brewery was open though. It's about $5 a pint. They have a pretty large variety. I had the 1905 Citra. This is an IPA, and wasn't crazy hoppy. Has no food except maybe chips. They however allow customers to bring in food from the restaurants around here. Good beer. It's also a good story and gives this rinky dink town of Assumption something to be proud of. This is worth a drive to check out what they have become even with a setback.

Just outside Assumption, Illinois is Cypress Grove Farm, where "belties" - a traditional Scottish…read morebreed of beef cattle properly called the Belted Galloway - are raised. Cypress Grove has a farm store as well, and as of 2019, a side business as a brewery. A bit of digging through online newspaper articles showed that the owners were partners in the original iteration of 1905 Brewing Company in town, but left the partnership when that bar burned down in 2019. Now they make beer out on their farm, offering it by the cup, crowler, and growler in their farm store. Plenty of picnic tables and lawn chairs were spread under large oak trees on the lawn. They have food trucks on the premises on select weekends; for our visit, just brats and chips were available, plus meat and cheese from the farm store. Guests are warmly greeted, and welcome to stroll around the property to see the fields and cattle. During our COVID-era visit, masks were worn indoors and parties were safely distanced outside. The beers we tried were excellent, including an Irish Red, a "Trials and Tritical-ations" experimental pale ale, and a couple sours. We took home some crowlers, including a "Pork Snout Milk Stout" which really is infused with pork... interesting, but not for me! Cypress Grove was definitely worth driving a few miles off our planned trek through Christian County. It's a lovely setting with friendly folks and great brews.

Buzz Bomb will get you buzzed real good…read more While Emily and I were sitting at Custom Cup Coffee, we were trying to figure out what was in the area that we could walk around to and get some food and a drink. While I made a general list of stuff to do in Springfield, we wanted to see what this part of Springfield had to offer. Buzz Bomb was on my list of places to check out and conveniently, it was about a 5 minute walk away. So, we took our coffees and hit the pavement. Emily and I were greeted by some very friendly bartenders and we took a seat at the bar and got to looking at their beer selection. Emily sampled two of their beers while I ordered the Nanner, Nanner, Nanner. She sampled my beer after her two samples and immediately ordered what I got. It's a hefenweizen that doesn't taste quite like a normal hefe. Usually, Emily can't stand a hefe but really liked this one. I thought it was decent but tasted like if someone who never had a hefe would make if they tried to replicate one. I ended up having two 5oz glasses of it while Em had just the one in the 40 or so minutes we were here. I've seen Buzz Bomb stickers at other breweries so it was nice to finally get to check them out. What I wasn't expecting was Buzz Bomb to be coated head-to-toe in stickers. Everywhere you looked, you'd see at least a handful of stickers on the walls, ceiling, cabinets, cooler, all over the bathroom and anywhere else you could put a sticker. The bartender hooked us up with a few stickers for our collection and then told us a lot of corny dad jokes. She was a hoot and helped make our time here really fun. She was also great at letting us know all the fun activities going on in Springfield during the summer. Unfortunately, we had to move on to the next spot as we were both hungry and didn't want the beer to hit too hard. That means Buzz Bomb is good for a spot of drinking but if you want food, you'll either have to go upstairs to the Korean BBQ place or pick out one of the many places in the area to eat. I'll definitely be back in the near future to grab a shirt (and more beer)

It's a hope in the wall kinda place with a really cool lighting fixture on the wall made out of pipes. Drop everything and go check it out! Not a lot of people here yet at 4:45 on a Friday but a few. Good music was playing and the gent at the bar hooked me up with a flight. I just told him to give me the best they've got and hopefully he did. We will find out together... The Barfight Brown Ale was up first. This is an American brown ale. This one took me back a little to the old days which got me into brewing when Pete's Wicked Ale was big. Nice brown with a bit more kick than your English milds. Helles Bound and Down is a very nice Helles lager. Not much else to say. True to style and tasty. Pennyweight Amber ale was next and honestly I didn't love it. It wasn't terrible by any means it just didn't speak my language. Last up was Walk of Shame a milkshake IPA which is a style I often enjoy. I liked this one, although it seemed a little light in flavor for a milkshake IPA. Of course it might just be my palate. Triple B is serving up some great beers. I also happened to be in just a few days after a big fire right across the street. Triple B was pulling together donations for the businesses and people affected which is so good to see. We spend far too much time arguing over politics and BS differences and not enough on what we have in common. Sad that it takes a tragedy to pull so many of us out of it. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.
