Two stars because our meal was served with no corn muffins. I asked about them and the waitress hemmed and hawed and said you have to order them if you want them. I said, "Aren't they supposed to come with the meal?" More ums and errs and said something something food waste, manager said you have to order. I get there might be a food waste issue, but wouldn't the right thing to do be to ask people at the time they order whether they want corn bread or biscuits? Rather than have the customer wait for the waitress to go get them after the meal has already been served? Most Cracker Barrel's DO ask if the customer would like corn bread or biscuits at the time they put in their order. So, the whole food waste issue is avoided if they just would handle it the way the other stores do. We stop here when traveling through occasionally and have run into the recalcitrant attitude toward customer service and this particular store in the past. It's like they don't want to serve you anything they don't have to and are pretty obtuse about it. The food and decor is pretty standard for Cracker Barrel and it's an ok choice if you want this sort of meal when traveling through. Just expect a little less friendly attitude toward customers than most other Cracker Barrels. read more

We were at this Cracker Barrel recently and they surely need better chefs/cooks. We ordered the Thursday turkey dinner and a veggie plate. We both ordered corn muffins and their beans. The beans we dry on our previous visit and asked our server to make sure that their famous beans were not dry again. Our server was awesome and working very hard to please us and came back to let us know that a new batch of beans would be done in 15 minutes and that the corn muffins were hard so she requested a new batch. When we got our beans the chef/cook had added the old beans, new beans and water to the beans. The new beans were hard as a rock and not cooked. So, our server requested that the chef/cook to keep cooking the beans and she would bring us new servings. We had to leave so we requested the beans to go. We got home with the newly prepared beans and they were still mixed with the old beans and still hard as a rock. This Cracker Barrel's food has gotten VERY expensive and seriously gone down hill. New chefs/cooks need to be hired here at a higher pay rate or this place will continue to get bad reviews. We tipped our server very well as none of the food preparation at this location is the servers faults. It's Management that needs to get this place together and find better chefs/cooks that don't half a-- their job and try to take lazy steps to get the food out right. We knew the chef/cook just added the old beans to new beans and more water. They were awful. Why be so lazy? Diners are very educated these days and not going to eat bad food and pay higher prices. We should have received coupons for 2 free meals. But we received a coupon for 1 shareable in which we will never use. Our server also sent us home with better corn muffins, but they were very, very greasy and the grease was leaking through the bag. We threw out the beans and corn muffins. I am a rewards member and we do like the clothing here and the all of the cute Holiday displays and the candy. We spent $80. on clothes this day. read more

#65-2021 It's been almost 2 years through covid since I reviewed this one. No droppin a star is a solid four stars still. Here we are post covid possibly in the Delta variant I'm not too sure the only really difference walking in is they say put on a mask if you're unvaxxed that's an Illinois thing. I came in about 11:00 in the morning wanted some basically brunch so I ordered one of my new favorites I used to like to get for breakfast to blueberry pancakes add meat with no eggs but then I realized I was paying like five bucks more. I was treated promptly it was not much of a wait for us a cup of coffee out and a glass of water and I ordered the Mama's breakfast pancakes which is basically three pancakes two eggs of your choice and your choice of meat. I realized by doing that for a buck more you can have blueberries so there I had my blueberry pancakes and my meat and some eggs to boot and I saved probably 4. 50 what do you know. This one's still a decent one they do real good job cleaning the tables when people are finished eating which is a good thing and the store was very clean the can was clean definitely keeping up the good work. As of now they're back to their regular hours from the old sign on the door no more temporary for now. I like to convenience even though I can't get a great big old 18-wheeler in here I can park on the side street by the Hampton inn and hoof it on in. read more

I ordered meatloaf and got this tiny piece, so I asked for another piece and it was burnt. Atleast it was bigger though. This portion amount is sad. I don't know why anyone would bring this out to a table from the way it looks. Also waited a long time to order, Had to ask for refills, and got no butter or jam with biscuits. read more

Haven't been to a Cracker Barrell for over 20 years. Now I remember why. The fried chicken was soggy and the coating tasted as if it came from a cardboard box. Meatloaf was ok. Mashed potatoes were probably the best thing as even the corn was extremely bland and seemed old and tough. Service was excellent but that was it. Highly recommend. Food was fresh and delicious. Hannah our server was very friendly. Explained everything. Service was fast as we were traveling and didn't have a lot of time. I had a grilled chicken breast and it was very tender. Had a baked apple dessert to go. Prices were very reasonable. Restaurant was extremely clean. I've only eaten here 4 times. Of those times I was forgotten about twice. Placed my order and sat for 45 minutes before the waitress remembered we were there and then would bring us food that had been sitting under the heat lap for 20-30 minutes. Then the food taste stale. You don't normally think of a cracker barrel as a 4-star restaurant, but as cracker barrels go, this one is one of the better ones. Our server was awesome and funny! We had breakfast - my husband had the pancakes and loved them. I had the typical 2 egg breakfast with toast, bacon and potatoes - all very good. This is our 2nd visit to this Cracker Barrel and again we were very disappointed. No one came to acknowledge we were there for 20 minutes. Our water was brought in plastic cups. Our food order was taken after 25 minutes. The food took another 30 minutes and there was no silverware. They brought us a fork after another 5 minutes and said they could bring us a knife as soon as some were clean. Another five minutes and the knife was so hot I couldn't use it without wrapping it in a napkin. I ordered simple pancakes no sides. The pancakes were very small and syrup was given in a bottle. My husband order a Benny which was undercooked. This is the only Cracker Barrel we've ever had these problems at. read more

The food is always good. However since reopening the Chicken & Dumplings meal I have always loved is now more like soup. The broth is no longer thick, it is runny and lots of it! It is not an isolated incident. Also there was only about 3 small bites of dumplings in with the chicken and all that broth. It has happened 3 times. I will have to abandon my favorite meal and order something else. Also today our server only covered her mouth with her mask so what good was it! The other servers wore theirs correctly. I've been going to Cracker Barrel for years, all over the place but this one seems to be the one I go to most, due to the fact that Lincoln Illinois has an Amtrak Station. On this visit I was with my step mom and cousin for an early breakfast before jumping a train to Chicago. IF you've never been to one, I would suggest stopping in at almost any of their locations for a filling, down home cooking kind of meal. This place is largely Southern style American vittles. The decor consists of things like old time ads, signs, hatchets, Irons, and various other memorabilia of earlier times. It's not fancy, but it is an interesting place to visit and it doesn't matter if you are a city mouse, or a country mouse. My favorite feature of this particular location is the over sized fire place in the main dining room that they do operate daily. On this visit we all ordered breakfast about 7:30 a.m. or so, and it was surprisingly not that busy. Our server was polite, and as attentive as she could be. She was prompt with coffee refills, which is always a plus! Maine Blueberry French Toast: The french toast was quite tasty, and comes with 2 eggs any style, and choice of meat. (Ham, sausage, bacon, sugar cured bacon) There are 4 slices of deliciously egg dipped sourdough fried up on the griddle to golden perfection. I feel like sourdough was the perfect twist on the french toast. The texture is a little more dense, and gives it a really good mouth feel. They also bring you a warmed container of this really yummy blueberry syrup, also with Maine Blueberries. I swear that my mouth is watering just remembering them! Maine Blueberry Pancakes: 3 big, fat, fluffy flapjacks of epic deliciousness for you to start the day with. These buttermilk pancakes came out perfectly cooked, and FULL of plump, sweet, blueberries. This is served with a side of meat, and their house maple syrup. Don't worry, they won't forget that generous scoop of whipped butter! This is definitely a must try for the hearty breakfast eater. Country Breakfast?: I forget what it was called on the menu, as it was my step mom's and I didn't hear for certain what was said. It arrived to the table piping hot with 2 scrambled eggs, fried apples, and sausage. Not to worry, all eggs and meat choices can be customized. They also brought out biscuits with butter to the table. These are pretty dense, country biscuits but they're also fluffy and just like I remember as a younger kid growing up in the mid west. There is a "Country Store" inside of the restaurant with lots of fun little treats like candy sticks, older candies, small toys, trinkets, sauces, and so on. I feel that you do get what you pay for. Very patient with my FIL and his hearing issues, checking back with us for refills and to see if we needed anything else. Do NOT eat at this restaurant. We waited for an hour and no food. We asked and were told our food was "2nd or 3rd to come out." We then waited for a half hour and still no food. We were now told, "they lost your ticket." So we asked to speak with the manager, and she said they'd pay for our meal and bring biscuits. We waited another 15 minutes. No biscuits were brought out to our table and still no food. Then our waitress came over and said, "I don't want to tell you this, but we are out of chicken and dumplings." I received Fantastic service for my to go order! I ordered dinner for my wife and I. kimmy took my order by phone and was fantastic ! Personable and really listened to my order! My wife loves Cracker Barrel's grilled tenderloin dinner with green beans and 2 orders of carrots! I ordered the grilled tenderloins with 2 orders green beans and 1 carrot. I asked kimmy for blackberry jam for the biscuits. I ordered a house salad and asked for extra cheese, croutons, French dressing , and cucumbers! My wife and I visited Cracker Barrel after checking out the Russell Stover outlet across the street. We could not have been more disappointed with our $30 meal. I ordered the Old Timer's Breakfast with two eggs sunny side up, bacon, cinnamon apples, grits, and biscuits and gravy. The eggs had a strange consistency to them. The bacon was hard (as opposed to crispy) and tasted stale/old. The biscuits were hard and stale. The gravy had a strange 'mechanical'/metal taste to it. The apples were mushy and there was hardly any cinnamon flavor. My wife ordered the 12oz. sirloin steak and a baked potato. She ordered the steak well-done and she received a hockey puck that had absolutely no flavour or taste. The entire kitchen at this Cracker Barrel needs to be fired, Donald Trump style. read more

I don't know WHAT it is about Cracker Barrel that makes my eyes light up in the given semi-rural area that I spot one in . Maybe it's because we don't have them in California. Or maybe I just want to sit in one of the rocking chairs that are always displayed on the porch and go to town clacking some spoons on my knee and actin' a fool. In any event...my friend Jenny and I pulled up to this Cracker Barrel on the way back to St. Louis from Chicago. I had been to one several years ago in West Virgina (Virginia?), and it was time to pay another visit! It was effin' awesome. There was a "smoking section" for chrissakes, and they had Chicken n' Dumplins'. I've never had chicken n' dumplins' before, and the waitress explained that it was chicken with some breaded stuff (bread? YEAH!), so I decided to go with that. The dish came with not one, not two, but THREE "vegetable" side dishes to choose from. Apparently, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy are considered vegetables here, because I was able to get those (along with some legitimate green beans) as as my "vegetable" side orders. When they brought the food out, the portions were basically the equivalent of my family's last Thanksgiving meal. I knew beforehand this was going to be a LOT of food, so asked for a "to go" box when I placed my order so I could eat half of it later (as I do try to avoid consuming 10,000 calories in one sitting). In all fairness, I'm very much not the target market for Cracker Barrel - I'm not really into kitsch, and I like more flavors than "fat" and "salt" in my food. But in the middle of a cross-country move, you take your food where you can find it, and this place was near our hotel. The food experience was...okay, I guess. Kind of bland, and they suffer from the usual chain restaurant "iceberg lettuce plus three leaves of arugula or romaine = 'mixed greens'" delusion, but warm and filling enough. Poking through the gift shop was entertaining for a few minutes; I found a funny card to send to a friend of mine I'd left in Arizona. The waitresses/clerks were all friendly, but seemed kind of worn down. Never having been to another Cracker Barrel, I'm not sure if it's something about the chain or just this particular area. I definitely had to admire their marketing - enter *and* exit through the gift shop! You already pay for your meal at the shop counter, so why not buy a few higher-margin items while you're at it? - but if I'm in another dominated-by-chain-restaurants area in the future, I don't think CB will be my first choice. read more

Stopped by the other day on my way home from a soccer game for some food. We were a big group, that were super hungry because let's face it. Soccer players have to eat at some point. We were seated and waited on in about 10-15mins of arriving, which was pretty fast for a Saturday evening. Once seated we were given menus to decide what we wanted to eat. I got the pancakes meal with eggs and sausage. The pancakes were the standard size for this place, which is huge everywhere else. However, my pancakes were a bit burnt on one side. It made cutting them with a knife a challenge. My teammate had the same issue as I did. The okra is okay, from what my other teammate said. It's not great okra, but it's okra. That usually means the okra is cooked in something that makes the okra taste bland. Everyone else's food was okay. Just those two problems that I had. Service was alright. I had no complaints with the two ladies helping us. I thought they were both nice once they got into the swing of things. I had no problems with them at all. This place gets 2 stars because of the pancakes and the fact that it's a chain. Most chains I give a 3/5 because I could go to the same place for the same food in a different town, which is how I felt about this. read more

Really disappointed. Ordered Signature Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and fried apples. Came out quick, too quick. Food must have been pre-made and kept slightly warm. Room temperature basically. Chicken tasted like fried in old oil. Potatoes room temp and stiff with gravy- could cut with a knife. Apples were cold but tasted decent with biscuits- biscuits were high point- warm enough to melt butter and made decent. read more

We were told for a party of 4 it would be a 25 min wait it was definitely longer than that. Then we waited for our food and was told an hour later that it's still going to be awhile longer till our food would be done. You should be upfront with your customers about the true wait time. It's the usual good food that you'd expect at any Cracker Barrel, but I was really impressed by the fantastic service that we received at this location. We were promptly seated and were quickly waited on, and our server provided just the right amount of attention and was able to get us served quickly so we could be on our way. Bravo! read more

Awful. Walking towards front door and an employee walked out and let the door shut just as we approached, strike 1. It wasnt busy but we waited at the hostess desk for 10 minutes while they tried to find a table for the 4 ppl in front of us. The manager came to the hostess desk and asked the ppl in front of us is they were being helped then walked away, when clearly he could have asked us as well, strike 2. Finally a very unhappy hostess, not even a smile. Just sighed and said, how many, bemoaned at finding is a table, there were many empty, then proceeded to sit us at a table that we had to clean off the food on the chairs and had to step around what looked like spilled milkshake all over the floor under the chairs, strike 3. She didnt even ask is if this was a good table, just put the menus in the table and left. So did we. read more
