On Sunday, September 28, 2025, I had the opportunity to witness one of the best real-world examples of teamwork I've had the privilege to behold. The local eatery, Chipotle, was experiencing an unprecedented influx of patrons while severely understaffed. Generally, I've never witnessed this company open and operational with less than 8-10 employees. On this day, however, there was a grand total of three (3) employees, including two (2) women and one (1) man. There was a line out of the front door of the establishment and an equally daunting line out of the side (take-out) door of 15 to 20 people, all waiting for their meals. What occurred next took structure, trust, and clear communication from each of these members of that workplace team. The foundation of this company's namesake is freshly prepared food. However, due to the lack of staff on hand, the whole back grill was dark and uninhabited. The only active grill was staffed by the man tending the side door customers, quickly becoming overwhelmed. Then I witnessed a few frustrated costumers, some audibly so, leaving; deciding to seek their dinner elsewhere. However, the three (3) employees had collectively determined a plan to get the eatery back on track and operational, within a matter of 25 minutes. The first task was to resolve the line pooling at the take-out side counter. Once these patrons were served, it allowed the man on the side grill time to begin making fresh food options to supply menu items for the two (2 ) women at the ordering station at the front of the store. Within 15 minutes, the trio of worker had completely resolved the backlog at the side door and had the line at the front of the door reduced by 1/3. Within 25 minutes, I was making my order, and received a gift of joy to witness the supportive and collaborative effort of this trio of workers. Occasionally, hearing the one worker shout to the others... "I'm out of (a random menu item) and hearing one of the other two (2) reply, I got you!".., quickly appearing with the needed item. In this team, everyone played their part, supported each other and exhibited excellence in the facilitation of the goals of their company. As I left, I thanked and complimented each member of that trio for providing an excellent, real-world experience in teamwork! read more

This place used to be really good, but it has gone down hill. The employees here suck. They are all rude and lazy. We got chicken and rice bowls and they had to huff and puff just because we asked for a little xtra rice and beans. It's not like you pay for the rice and beans ladies! We got about 6 pieces of chicken with our meals and to get more we would have had to pay extra. The chicken was not even good. It was cooked too much and dry. It's like trying to pull teeth here to get a full meal for what you pay for. Pro tip: There's a Qdoba literally a few traffic lights down the road on the same street. Go there instead. I love chipotle but please dont go to this location- they have rude staff, they short you on food specially during lunch. They will give you the end of whats left, have new ones come in and if you ask for fresh food, they charge you extra. they charged me extra for everything when they added nothing. I ask for sides like corn, salsa, sour cream etc on the side because my bowl will get soggy and they charged me extra even though all i had in my bowl was rice and protein. We love Chipotle. We eat it almost everywhere we travel. I've been to at least 30 different chipotles. The Springfield location is worst chipotle I've ever been to. It's shocking how bad it is. Of my last four simple burrito mobile orders, three were wrong. The service is terrible and the staff in general is poor. The portion sizes are minuscule and do. It align with the standards at any other chipotle. The chicken is often burnt. The store used to be excellent. I have no idea what happened but it's been awful for years. read more

The pick up ordering is terrible. I had to download the app, place an order and all I ordered was a steak burrito. It took like 40 minutes to download app, place order and they make you wait 15-30 minutes to pick up even though I was right infront. The staff had mask on and some were not wearing them properly like pulled down beneath their face despite of them preparing food.. This online thing doesn't seem faster or more efficient. Not everyone is wearing gloves. I'll probably never come here again. I'm not a frequent here and I'm not interested in coming back as the food wasn't that great along with their process. The portions are way smaller, I haven't eaten at chipotle since 2019 and almost thought the burrito was not my order as the size is significantly different now? I was very disappointed in this visit. This is probably one of the worst ran chipotle's in the country. It's truly a gamble every time you go how things are going to turn out. There is no cap on mobile ordered so it's possible that upwards of 20 people will be waiting for the same pick up time. There is rarely more than enough chips to cover the bottom of the bags, and you'd might as well ask for double everything just to get the standard amount. I order the same thing every time and it's truly wild how different it is each time, not only in portion size, but it's like they're just guessing how to season things in the back. DINERS BEWARE! When you use Chipotle's mobile app to order ahead & choose "soonest time available," you will be told that your order should be ready in 10 minutes. I've done this several times, & it's *never* been ready on time, but I know that now & try to roll with it. My daughter really wanted Chipotle, so I ordered for both of us at 5:40 on a Sunday. The e-mail receipt said my order should be ready by 5:50. I arrived right on time, but was fully prepared to wait longer, based on past experience. 30 minutes came & went. No order. My kid was hungry & getting antsy as we stood around waiting. It was obvious from the time we entered that the staffing, as usual, was not sufficient for the amount of business. One person was making all of the mobile orders by herself, & was clearly very backed up, so I wanted to be patient. But after 30 minutes of waiting, another customer who was waiting mentioned that the order assembler had put a bag out without any receipt or name on it. The assembler took it back to her station to try to figure out whose order it may have been. I raised my hand to ask if it might be mine, since I had placed mine 30 minutes ago. She loudly, grumpily, proclaimed, "I ain't got no orders from no thirty minutes ago!" I replied by showing her the receipt on my phone. "I can't go back & make no old orders, I'm already backed up." Seriously? You lost my order from 30 minutes ago, & now that you're aware of that fact, you won't just go ahead and make it? "I'm showing you my order right here on my phone. I'd love it if you could make it for me, since I've obviously been waiting a long time for it." Her reply, "you need to talk to them at the front counter," gesturing toward the cashier. The cashier looked at us when she heard her co-worker say that, but when I walked over to her as instructed, she ignored me. She proceeded to ring up other customers one after another. I found an opportunity to repeat to her what her co-worker had told me, & she said, with the cold, dead, look-right-through-you-without-making-eye-contact eyes that seem typical here, "you gotta go to the back of the line." After 34 minutes of very patiently waiting for my order-ahead meal, she's telling me, without the least interest or care, but with a healthy load of "couldn't give a sh*t," that I need to go to the end of a line of a dozen people in order to RE-ORDER an order I already ordered paid for 30+ minutes ago! I thought: this can't really *possibly* fit the customer service expectations of Chipotle Mexican Grill, can it? Well... So, in jeopardy of sounding like a "Karen," I did the thing I *least* wanted to do, but now, unfortunately, HAD to do to get my $29 back, and asked who was in charge. I won't say "manager," because whether he was or wasn't (which I don't know), this person didn't really seem remotely trained in any aspect of customer service. Couldn't even be bothered to fake it. I showed him my receipt. "They're telling me I need to go to the end of the line. I ordered this 34 minutes ago now. Can I at least get my money back?" More cold, dead, eyes. "We don't give refunds at the store level, you have to contact corporate." Are you kidding me? That was literally it. Zero help or concern *whatsoever*. My only thought is that my daughter just asked me to buy her dinner & after half an hour I'm walking out of here without our food AND without my money, because it's ever-so-slightly inconvenient for these people! They had plenty of food there! ALL the ingredients for the meals I had already ordered & paid for 34 minutes ago. They just decided it was tough sh*t for me. I could either wait ANOTHER 30 minutes & *maybe* get my order, or I could leave without my money. Kind of sounds worse than just awful customer service, doesn't it? The attitude of the employees communicated that they actively despise their employer, their co-workers, and, most certainly, their customers. The unstated message seemed to be, "don't blame us, you're the fool who willingly ordered food from this terrible, poorly-run place. What did you expect? Sucker." So we just left, no refund, no nothing, went across the road to Qdoba & got basically the same meal, without any of the bullsh*t, in less than 10 minutes. (I'll be positively reviewing them next). Chipotle: THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO OFFER IS QUICKNESS & CONVENIENCE. And, you haven't had that since at least 2020. Right now, every Taco Bell/Taco Gringo in town also has you beat on *that* metric. Qdoba has you beat cold, with pretty much the identical concept, menu, & pricing. Get it together. This place is horrible! The floors haven't been cleaned in months! The guy preparing order was so sloppy it was vomicating! The counter prep area was covered in food particles left from other orders! My rating here is related directly to the Company and Staffing issues than it is the food. I have never enjoyed how disorganized and chaotic this place feels but my son loves the food so I still frequent the restaurant. Last time I visited this location it was chaotic as usual. When I paid with my credit card it clearly went through. Then I was told, quite rudely, to run my card again. I said "it looked like it worked" and was told "well it didn't". So I put my card in again. When I got home I had an EXTRA charge of 14$ plus the charge for my kid's burrito. So I clearly was charged for someone else's order. The best I could resolve with was a coupon code from Chipotle corporate for a free burrito (not even $14). And guess what? When I went to use the coupon it didn't work. I asked corporate to give me another one and their "bot" said nope. At the most fundamental level this is theft. And not a single meaningful attempt to resolve. And don't even try the new location on North Dirksen. What a disgusting mess. Not sanitary at all. Not the staffs fault. They clearly are not getting any training and are well understaffed by corporate. read more

If I go to Qdoba I can get double steak, queso, guac, and a much larger variety of toppings and the Total comes out to no more than $15 read more
