I had high hopes for this local British-inspired bakery, but maybe a little too high. And the…read moreprices are high - at least in dollars and not pounds! And I caught a good deal this week, so keep an eye out for that.
So when you look at the menu online, be warned: the pastries may be smaller than you think. The handhelds have volume, but it's all fluff - like 2 oz for $4.25 (as of when I'm writing this). The 6" pies are much smaller than I thought from "feeds 3-4" - no, these are individual meals at best. But I should have measured out 6" and gotten a sense of that. The steak & ale fall seasonal pastry I got had very little meat, more onion and mushroom inside than anything. But really, most of all - bread. The spinach and leek pastries didn't even have much vegetable - at least the leek had some parmesan cheeseiness to it. To be fair, these are all fresh-made pastries, and this is first and foremost a bakery, so I was a little overly harsh on first assessment.
One of the pros here: They gave me a second scone by accident when I left. Nice and fresh, lemony, authentic texture, tastes great. The one they had boxed for me feels kinda tough, but it tastes just as good as the first, so IOU for misjudging that one.
Long story short, I feel bad. Most people seem to like it, it's local, the workers are really nice inside, they just expanded the interior I was told... but with all that, not really my vibe. And I do appreciate that you commented on my post to reach back out. The positive vibe there isn't unnoticed.
