Did it look a little janky? Yes, but once it was on his neck with the rest of the leis, it looked great. Also, my sister made him a Chipotle lei, but she didn't have the food in it, just used the container and cleaned it out and strung it together with cellophane wrap. Ours had the food in it still and people commented that ours even smelled like McDonald's and I said, "That's because there's actual food in the boxes." The kids got a kick out of it.
