The way they spice it, the heat builds up, so shoot a little bit below your first taste and it'll build up to a nice warmth. There is a nice layer of slaw that cools the spice a little bit. And a pickle. I'm ok with the pickle slice, but for me, it's a distraction on a simply-dressed sandwich like this. I found this place tucked at the far end of a small easy-to-miss strip mall in Columbia MD. It wasn't busy, which is good because there isn't much parking in front, but you could also park on the other side. It's worth a short walk :-) Pro tip: Order ahead on their app, because they fry it fresh for you and it takes about five minutes. I do have a complaint about their app! On the way to the store, I tried for about five minutes to log into their app. Nothing worked. Not a reboot, not a change-password request. Nothing. The app knew that I have an account, but it just wouldn't let me in. I like their chicken, a lot, so I just drove here and waited the five minutes! First world, problems, I suppose. The fries with cheese seasoning were way better than I expected. Crisp, fresh, not too oily and the seasoning had a complementary sweet flavor that pairs really well with the sandwich. Everything had a hint of sweet, which seems odd to me but I think it's common in Korean dishes? At any rate, it was good. The Thai tea was ok. As I approached this business, I found the outside to be clean and the landscaping was pleasant. After entering, I was immediately faced with a bunch of kiosks for customers to place their orders. I just don't like kiosks. To me, this just shows me a business that is trying to reduce their customer service by not hiring cashiers and making the customer perform the cashier's job with no cost benefit to the customer. After placing my order, I was then questioned with how much I would like to tip. I found this to be even more annoying. What am I tipping for? The quality of the food?...I haven't eaten it yet. The quality of the service?...I haven't received any yet. Tipping BEFORE any experience is ridiculous and presumptuous. To me, tipping is a way for the customer to show that they are satisfied (or highly satisfied) with the experience they have had AFTER they have had it. I ended up ordering the double SmokeShack Burger, which comes with two beef patties, cheese, bacon, cherry peppers, and ShackSauce. The burger was really delicious, but I was surprised by how small it was for being a double. I also ordered the Bacon Cheese Fries, which are crinkle cut French fries topped with cheese sauce and bacon. This was pretty good too, but not as good as I thought it would be. In comparison with my favorite fast food restaurant, In-N-Out (primarily in the western U.S.), I can get a similar meal at In-N-Out for about HALF the cost. I don't know about you, but if I pay substantially more I expect a substantially better experience.
