Odd little shotgun style dive bar on Decatur, near Hex. It's not a tiki bar, not at all. I called it the not-at-all-tiki-bar-tiki-bar. It's dark, dank, smells like wet concrete. Coming from a state with strict drinking laws, the biggest thing I wanted to do in New Orleans was drink in a cool bar until the sun came up. This was THE SPOT for that. We were able to find nearby street parking but if it was a busier time of day, I can see parking being a hassle and I'd probably Uber in that case. We came in at 4am on a Thursday and the bar seats were almost full with friendly, colorful people. The bartender was a really friendly guy and made delicious drinks. I ordered an old fashioned but I guess I underestimated how divey this place actually was because I didn't expect it to be a served in a tiny plastic cup but it was. It was still a damn good old fashioned, the bartender did the best he could with his resources and it was well balanced and strong. The prices were really good but be forewarned: it is cash only, you should make sure you have some cash to avoid the $4 service fee from the ATM. There's a nice little nook in the back where you can sit back on some old church pews, kick your feet up and relax. Its not too loud and they played cool songs I had never heard before. The other patrons were nice and talkative, we felt very welcome and at home despite being tourists. I would highly recommend this spot read more

Poor tourists, getting angry because it's not a tiki bar. As others have mentioned, it's a clever play on the fact that it's adjacent to an antique place. Back before my time, it was a place called Jewel's Tavern. (An fyi to tourists - they didn't actually have jewels there.) It's a cool, low-key hangout with about ... I'd guess 75 -80% locals the times I've been there. It's a great dive, though by no means the diviest in the city. I had a blast last year watching KdV and krewedelusion go down the street. Or maybe it was year before last ...? I'm not sure. I've slept and drank since then. read more

One of my most favorite drinking spots in the FQ. Great bartenders and really fun locals. Lots of visitors have a great time here but don't come with attitude and then get surprised when the staff or the patrons don't put up with you. Great snack options in the vending machine as well as smokes. Both machines take cards but the bar is cash only, there is an ATM for convenience. Oddities and fun decor make it a cozy place to be. We got chatting and it turns out it's a place on their next door neighbour, an antique store. WOMP WOMP. Craig G. is right, this place would be at home in the East Village, and probably would have a better time. A lot of tourist stop by and are confused to be at a real bar instead of the gimmicky stuff on Bourbon. If you're looking for a respite from grenades and daiquiris this place is the right way to go. What can you really say about Aunt Tiki's? It's the diveiest of all the dive bars on lower Decatur. We popped in here on New Year's Eve, of all times, because the crowd was starting to build outside and we needed an escape. This place is pretty no frills: Miller High Life in a bottle, a dirty sofa that you probably don't want to sit on and packed with locals. I had been here before and in my memory it was a lot more dim, but it was nice and bright on the evening that I returned. The crowd here is pretty chill and not as crazy as maybe some other places throughout the Quarter. Just don't forget that you are on lower Decatur, and keep your wits about you, and you'll be fine. read more

Holy hell I did not know what we were getting into coming here late on a Sunday but as soon as I saw the girl next to us at the bar making a show of crushing and snorting lines of her peppermint Altoids, I knew we were in the right place. Around the time I noticed the porn playing on the screen at the opposite end of the bar I'd been facing, our bartender took our Radler orders and suggested we upgrade to "Party Radlers", which is a can of Radler split in two with a shot of tequila float. It mostly tasted like Radler to me but had a kick later on. Even though the bar was mostly empty at near midnight on a Sunday, the people there were all super entertaining and friendly and I'd come back any time. read more

Another Bar with a couch review. After the KDV parade, I went on a lengthy bar tour. Aunt Tiki's was one of the spots I tried earlier in the night. I had never been, but I liked it. There is a long bar with stools as you walk in. There is also an area with at least one couch against the wall. I love bars with couches. I can't explain it, I just do. This couch was small and possibly more of a love seat, but two people could comfortably sit. Bartenders were friendly, and service was prompt. Since I have a rule about drinking expensive beer in a dive bar, we stuck with PBR. It was cheap, cold and plentiful. This isn't the area of town I normally frequent, but next time I do, I will keep this place on my list. read more

If they're too stingy to accept credit cards then you can imagine their drinks must taste disgusting. It was pretty slow at the time. I was waiting for about 20 minutes for the bartender to look in my direction but really had to use the restroom. As soon as I went inside the restroom, the bartender was yelling at me from outside the restroom to get out and buy a drink. It was a stressful experience because I kept peacefully saying "okay" and "yes sir" however he continued to yell at me outside the restroom door 8 times. Other customers at the bar were threatening to throw a coconut at my friends head while holding an actual coconut. I came out the restroom and before even attempting to order a drink the bartender began aggressively yelling at me and cursing at me while intensely shaking. I ordered a drink while the bartender was yelling and a second bartender began to join him in publicly berating me. Don't ever go here. It's sketchy and uninviting. My short time at this bar ruined an entire Saturday night. Plenty of other 1 star reviews depict an accurate experience of this place. A drunk put his face in my dog's face and I politely ask him not to do that and shit hit the fan. It turned out he was the owner and he kicked me and my dog Lila out. He told me to get out now and was screaming and cursing me out. I responded as soon as my disabled body allows me to and your bartender gets me a go cup. Biggest asshole I've ever seen. I have heard many stories of how the bartenders kick people out for no reason and pick fights. It was hard to believe because there is always two sides to a story but now I believe everything I've ever heard about this place. FWI dogs are allowed there. He wanted to play with my dog but he was obliterated and I am just as protective of my dog as she is with me. Cosimo's is a great local bar on Governor Nichols in the FQ that treat tourist and locals the same and I am in no way affiliated with them. read more

The first time we were here was the weekend before Halloween and the streets were filled with costumed people and the bars were full of costumed people and it was crazy difficult to get drinks anywhere, madness! I wasn't even wearing a costume myself, but luckily I tend to favor a style that often rallies, "Hey, is the circus in town?!" kind of calls, so who could possibly know the difference. Good, I wouldn't want to come off like a dud. Anyway, we ducked into Aunt Tiki's, escaping from the throngs. What a great time here! What a divey kookfest. I mean that in the best of ways, you know. While there were many drinkers gathered there, a wonderful eclectic crew, somehow Aunt Tiki's wasn't acquiring the onslaught that was happening everywhere elsewhere. Twas a welcome break from the ballyhoo, but by no means a dull time. Inside there were some low-to-the-ground couches where we sat and enjoyed more than a few strong and cheap drinks, and made some funny friends, and spied on a blossoming May-December romance at the bar. Or, if we're being honest, it was more like an Mid-September Jessica Rabbit and December Ed Asner-esque gent in orthopedic sneaks romance. Anyway, they were a fun couple to spy on the sly. Hey, good for you, I say. Crazy kids. Everyone in the place that night were really extra friendly, and the bartenders were great. The jukebox selections were killa but I don't think I ever heard my songs as someone there was playing a whole lot of Ramones and Iggy Pop. I ain't complaining. Then Lando Calrission walked in to the bar; a hilariously perfect Lando Calrissian. So, despite the fact that I have listed here a bunch of really particular circumstances that you will almost certainly never be able to replicate for yourself in one night, I would still recommend checking out Aunt Tiki's if you're in the market for a fine jukebox, strong drink and interesting characters.
