The Customer service was awesome. I explained in detail what we wanted on a car alarm for my Wife's Lexus and after checking the vehicle out, sold me the system that would work. Brought it back for install yesterday when they opened. Went all day without a phone call so I drove by and saw the car out front. They told me it was done and went to demonstrate it. Well, it wasn't working the way it should. Embarrassed, they asked me to come back in a few hours and it would be done. Turns out that system they sold needed more parts to make it work. Not advising me of that at the start did not make me happy but the Owner split the difference to get me whole and I gladly paid extra knowing her car would be right. Stuff happens. It's how you resolve the problem which sets a place apart from others like the place a few blocks away where I USED to take all my cars but poor Customer Service and being treated like crap from their terrible Staff made me switch to Audio Shack and I am glad I did. read more

Would not recommend. Have an experience from over 2 years ago and a more recent experience. Was not enough room for a full detailed review so this is the basics. Brought in my Infiniti G35 2 1/2 years ago and spoke with Alex the owner. New front and rear speakers, amp to replace the factory one, auxiliary input, alarm, and door lock actuators to work with the alarm and key fob. Eventually wanted a sub installed and they said to just bring it back in, but it sounded good and was happy for $1100. Got my subs and separate amp to install myself as I have in the past, as well as my father. We can't figure out how to incorporate the amp with the wiring work they did, not to mention the gain adjuster box was cheap as hell and would make the speakers crackle with any movement. Ended up just tying in the subs into the aftermarket amp and got more bass but not quite the expectation I had. More recently a month or two ago, system was starting to sound poor. Call in to see if I could bring it in to have it inspected, Alex said they would take a look. Get a call and the tweeters in the front are out; not very happy because I wasn't expecting to have to return for more speakers. Mike attempts to up-sell me on a whole new, double din touch screen stereo, back up camera, window tint, and throws in some telescope sound equalizer to tune my new system perfectly. $2,500! Tell him I don't need the tint, back up camera, super expensive touch screen, and want the sub amp installed for better quality. Negotiated, anything over $2,000 was a no go, he matched it. Told him I have the sub amp and he knocked off another $300. Mentioned financing they do '100 Days same as Cash', which was the biggest player in my decision. Confirmed some of the terms with him, specifically that 'I could come in on the 95th day with the full amount in cash and pay it off'. I think about it for a couple hours and Mike calls back. I agree to the terms and decide to do the back up camera. Mike says they usually charge $300, absurd, but he would do it for $150 (by the way I heard him use this same line on another customer in person next time I went in, might as well just say $1,000 to make it sound even better, because even $150 is a little much after having done it with my father a few weeks later and the camera was $60!). So $1,850 and we set up the financing over the phone. Mike tells me to agree to the terms that are being texted to me, I take a quick glance, and agree. There was a $70 fee for the financing that was never mentioned, so the total was $1,920. Pick up the car a day or two later, pretty ecstatic. Alex comes out and gives me a short run down, 'tuning' my system in less than a minute (so much for that telescope tuning program that mike said would be done). Go to drive off but the shifter felt like it would slip out of gear, and the gear indicator was incorrect so they take it back and fix it. Over the next day or two I attempt to use the manual mode to up and down shift manually, downshifting doesn't work. I take apart the center console a few days later and notice a small metal piece is missing from the downshift electrode. Search around but no luck. Call up and tell Mike that it was working days before I brought it in, and withing two days after I get the car back it doesn't work. He says they would not take responsibility but would take a look at it. I bring the car back in after the first visit id rescheduled, they claim to have 'gotten rid of' the employee that worked on my car because they don't want that kind of heat or reputation. Another guy takes a look and brings up unrelated issues with my shifter. Mike said he would try and find that electrode to have it replaced, and mentioned that I should go all the way to the junkyards in Otay Mesa to look for it as well, and at most, they would TRY to pay for half the price of the part. I get the part a week or so later and let Mike know. I decide to repair it myself as I don't want anything else to go wrong. That same phone call I discuss the worst part of this whole experience. The '100 Days same as Cash' financing instead turned out to be a 90 days interest free loan with TWO payments a month of $178, overdrawing my bank account because I didn't have the money to do this in the first place; and if the amount isn't paid off, you will end up paying over $4,000 over 12 months. Mike said that is what 'same as cash' means even though he made it sound otherwise previously. I explained how unhappy I was with the whole experience and asked if they would do anything to compensate me for all the BS. Nothing. More recently my door lock actuator would not work properly before it stopped working altogether. After inspecting it, not wanting to bring anything back to Audio Shack, the wiring was done poorly, and water had leaked into a wire connector and corroded and broke off the power wires. Paid way too much for a few good things and way too many headaches and too much stress! read more

Getting your new truck audio system installed can be challenging. As much as I would love to give Alex and this place a five star review I just can't. Sorry. First, the good. No charge and fast reinstall to fix issues they caused. Plus going the extra mile to make good. Five stars for sure. Thank you Alex. Now the bad. The install initially was done improperly which caused my trucks audio antennae to not work. Short cutting the install. Clean install with outlets for the iPhone/Android not explained as an option. Wired through the glove box. Not the best way on my new truck. Even if more expensive I would have paid if given that option. One star. Average it out....three stars... I went to this shop to have a satellite system installed on my truck. They charged me $1200.00 for the system BEFORE I received it. I was told I had to pay for it up front. I gave them the money in good faith and waited two weeks for it to arrive. After it was installed, it wouldn't work properly. It kept losing the satellite signal. I called them about it and was told they were too busy with other customers and wouldn't be able to check it out for two weeks. Needless to say I was upset by the crappy service response. Finally they made an appointment to check it out. When I took it in they said they were very busy and it would be a while before they could get to it. I became upset and advised them to get it done and honor the appointment they made with me, that I had already waited two weeks. The person waiting on me in the front became very belligerent and snapped at me that he would get to it when he could. Then he handed me back my keys and stated that if I didn't like it I could take it somewhere else for repairs. I went back later to speak with the owner and they took it in and worked on it. After I left, it was still causing trouble. I was so pissed off at this point that I decided they did not know what they were doing and decided to get it repaired elsewhere. All I can say if you have them do work for you..... GOOD LUCK!!! read more

they quoted 200 to install my boss stereo into my car someone had pulled it out and cut wires they said they could put it all back together and also hook back up the camera , then when I dropped it off it went to 350 I was able to negotiate it down to 270.00 . I picked it up its installed but dosent work all we could do was hook the bluetooth to my phone no radio the sales person said we need to purchase a antenna for am and fm radio which he said he had to order for an additional 100.00 , I dont have radio or back up camera so what did I pay for? They installed a stereo and speakers in my Beetle and a stereo & kit in my husband's Chrysler 300 in the same day. We got incredible deals on our stereo, speakers and installation but when my Beetle died in their installation bay, the whole team went to work to troubleshoot the problem. This place is run by a bunch of idiots I do not recommend doing business with these guys I went in there and bought one pair of speakers and before I bought them I ask and I made sure I'll be able to return them he said yes I go in there a couple days later realizing that I didn't need the speakers then he tells me they don't take returns when the dumbass told me specifically that they do, so I decided to go down the street to stereo Depot then it goes to show how better stereo Depot takes care of their customers even tho i didn't do Business with them yet, One of the guys working out of stereo Depot I explain my situation with these idiots from audio shack and he even bought the speakers from me which he did not have to do at all which I am deffently going to do Business with stereo depot someone that's who is more professional and not these lowlifes rip-off artists that work for audio shack fuck them!!! read more

It was 106 degrees out and my car needed the Windows tinted for my rear facing infant. We got lower quotes but couldn't wait for tomorrow or wait with car running for another hour. They worked with us on price, and got us in right away. I am waiting to see how the Windows look but am assured that they have done this for 7 years and the Windows will be done right. I dont care for the shady people in and out but then again this is el cajon, and would have been happier waiting the 2.5- 3 hours if the place was air conditioned. I am returning tomorrow to have my front 2 finish being tinted. I can't speak for their work until time has passed and we see if tint bubbles or fades but I will say they do seem to try hard for their customers and have great customer service. read more

The other day I decided I wanted to upgrade the old car stereo on my Toyota Prius and also wanted to add a back up camera for additional safety. My first inclination was to call a certain "Big Box Electronic Retailer" and get a quote. The store opened at 10 am so I called to see what they have available. After waiting on hold for a long time, I was told that no one would be in the car audio department until 1 pm. You would think a big corporate store would have at least one person in the department...but no. I asked if any of the other stores in the area had anyone on staff who could answer my questions. "I have no idea" was her reply. She did not offer to call around. She did not seem to eager to get my business. I was on my own. So by this time I realize I have 2 options: 1. I could keep calling all the other "Big Box" stores in the area.....wait on hold....and see which store would have someone staffed to help. 2. I could check out an independent local car stereo installer and see what they have to offer. I thought about it for a while and quickly realized that the 2nd option should have been my first inclination to begin with! After a quick search on my phone I set off a mile or so down the road and popped into The Audio Shack. Once inside, I got to talking with Zack, who patiently explained some of the options I could go with. After picking out a stereo and back up camera, I asked Zack how quickly he could start the installation. "Right away" he replied. "You can pick up your car by 2:30 pm" he assured me. Sure enough, and true to his word...I received the call at 2:15 that the car was ready for pick up. Nice! I've had the new stereo and back up camera for a few days now...and everything works great. The stereo sounds nice and the two year warranty gives me peace of mind that I made a good investment. One of the main reasons I chose to go ahead with the installation was the fact that they have been in business for a heck of a long time (I cant remember the exact year, but I believe it was since the 1970's!). So if you need a new car stereo, do yourself a favor and go to The Audio Shack. They will do the job right and get you in and out quickly. read more

I have been wanting to tint my windows for quite some time but was unsure of where to go. I was getting new tires for my car and noticed this place next door. The guys were standing outside and were very friendly and helpful when I inquired about tinting my windows. I didn't have a lot of time to spend on tinting that day and i had a very busy schedule the rest of the month. Zack was extremely accommodating and worked with me on the price. Go in looking for 6 1/2 speakers and he wants to charge me $330 for 2 pairs of Kickers with install. Those speakers are $52 everywhere so he wants to change $226 for install. They aren't even component speakers. Out of his mind. Know your audio prices before you fork out some money. They don't have prices on their products for a reason. Had a new screen and back up camera put in my daughter's car for Christmas. They understood we wanted it done ASAP before break was over. They were able to do the install the Friday before break was over. We were initially quoted 7 hours for install time. They finished in 5. We asked about an adjustment in labor install hours and were told they put 2 guys on it so they could install it quicker. There was no adjustment made. I only rated 4 stars because I was not crazy about them telling us we had to pay installation by the person. In all my years I have never been charged this way. Maybe I am missing something. The installation was done well. I am a little concerned about the placement of the USB port. I'm hoping it lasts with my daughter. They do offer warranty. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I plan to return for an upgraded alarm system for her car just don't want to be billed unnecessary installation hours. read more

So i called these guys ahead of time to have my receiver removed from one car and installed into my truck that has a stock radio & JBL speakers in it. Over the phone right then and there he says $300 for everything. Cool. Thats a deal. Dude even asked if i had a jbl system in it. I show up a week later and told them about my conversation with the guy over the phone. The guy i was speaking to picks a harness and adapter from a shelf and goes "Nope, well whoever you talked to didnt have these parts in mind. I can do $500". So i said "then im going to have to come back because thats a lot more than what was said over the phone". Guy looks over at who i assume runs the place. He goes "ill do it for $350, so we can keep your business". I agreed, paid them and they got to work. It took them about 3 hrs to do but without any complaints i waited patiently while listening to them talk badly about everyone who walked out of there. After they were done the guy i was originally speaking to says that he couldnt get the controls on the steering wheel to work. I said that it was fine as long as the stereo works. I turn on my car, adjust my settings and drive somewhere to get food, turn off the car and there is this head jarring pop. I call them and the guy tells me that the factory amp will do that with an aftermarket receiver. If they were to fix it, it would be extra money and 4 to 5 hrs of rewiring work. Thats a bunch of crazy baloney. Ive had plenty of new receivers put into my car with factory systems and never have i had this problem. Its either a grounding issue, which i never had with the factory receiver or they wired it wrong so the amp doesnt turn off before before the radio. Never taking a car back to them and neither should you. read more

I've read the good and bad reviews, and I don't get it. I took my first car, Toy 4Runner to Audio Shack. The Alarm was broken, I had no fobs, and needed an amp and speakers installed. I got quoted a great price, new alarm install and installed my amp and woofer. Such a great job I took in my other car. Brought in my Honda Del Sol, that had blown speakers and used to have an alarm that was fritzing out. I got 4 new speakers installed, along with a new alarm. All done in the same day. I called Audio Shack and spoke with Alex and he was so polite and knowledgeable that I decided to take my car there to have it checked out. They installed some Dynamat to secure the noise and had it done in a couple of hours. They even offered to secure my license plate when it comes in the mail. Update*** Alex is the man! He got a hold of me and went above and beyond to fix the situation, I will be back and install my stereo soon. Previously *** I went in looking to install a car stereo, after asking the big guy behind the counter what my options were, he offered me the "top of the line stereos". The same stereo he was trying to charge me $1500 for I found on Amazon for $368.00, he tells me that an $80 installation fee is required. I asked for a lower costing stereo and the installation cost was the same. I then asked, "why does it say free installation on the store window" ? He said, "that's for certain stereos" i asked really? I then explain, if you sell me a stereo for $200 the installation is free, but if I want a top of the line stereo the installation is $80? How does that compute? I told the guy they are using false advertisement to bait people into coming to the store. Not to mention the talk trash about the competition, but yet here they are trying to scam. He kept trying to tel me, that's for certain stereos, I said that's not what it says on the window, the window literally reads " Window tint, car stereo, navigation, speakers, FREE INSTALLATION"! It's all good, there was another customer there complaining that his stereo stopped working, and the staff started to play the blame game on one another. I figured dude you just dodged a bullet, get out! They were simply unprofessional, it's a shame I can't find a decent stereo place locally! read more

The worst place I have ever been. Do not go here. Avoid at all costs. They r just looking to make a quick buck. Installation was not only terrible but also took a long time. Paid for tinted windows and later that day when I showed up they told me the tint guy wasn't available. A week and a half later I was finally able to get them done. And that was a terrible job as well. So after that my sub was messing up so I went. Ack and he told me my sub needed to be re- honed. It was a new sub and there was no way it needed that. So he sold me and over charged me a Memphis sub. Took my old sub to another shop which I recommend car audio one. And it wasn't my sub it was my amp going out. Went back and told them and demanded my money back. They needed up swapping the sub for a hifonics amp and installed no charge. If you can avoid this shop. I will personally never go back. read more
