I went to Joe's Stereo for a new head unit and a backup camera for my truck. They originally recommended the Pioneer DMH-3050NEX, which seemed like a solid choice. But about 20 minutes into the install, I got a call saying they didn't actually have it in stock and they were going to put in the DMH-3000NEX instead. The guy told me it was "basically the same thing," which it definitely wasn't. They installed a PAC module I didn't even need, charged me $250 for it (when it costs $130 online), and then tried to justify double the labor charge because two people worked on the truck. I've never heard of labor being calculated based on how many installers they assign rather than the actual job. To make it worse, they put in a Crimestopper CAM-300 backup camera, which is an absolute joke. The quality was garbage--washed out, low res, and totally useless. I spent time emailing them back and forth about the camera, and eventually just bought my own camera out of pocket, brought it in, and had them swap it while the radio was already out. That's when I talked to them about how unhappy I was with the whole setup, and they offered to upgrade me to the Alpine iLX-507, which was honestly a great move. They also waived the labor, which I appreciated. But even after all that, I found out the GPS antenna was just stuffed behind the screen, not mounted anywhere. I had to rip the dash apart myself just to finish what should've been done right the first time. So yeah--they made it right in the end, but I had to fight for it the whole way, spend extra money, and finish part of the job myself. If you're going to Joe's, be ready to check their work and advocate for yourself, because "done" doesn't always mean done right. read more

WARNING !!!! THIS BUSINESS STOLE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. I took my car here to get my radio repaired, they convinced me to get my tires done and other repairs. One week later after spending thousands I picked my car up, and the catalytic converters were removed, and an iron plate was welded to cover up the sound. Well it went from Ahmad singing tunes of light, "Please leave me a review and tell everyone how good of a job we are doing. I will hook you up on your next job here." To Bruce, " I can only spare you one day, if you had told me your situation in the beginning I could have worked with you, but you didn't. Your bill is an extra $700 dollars in storage at $48 dollars a day." Note: They performed $1,200 dollars of work in two days. Here are my cliff notes: ~ Argumentative ~ Deflective ~ Blatant bending of reality ~ Zero communication ~ Poor Planning ~ Predatory Before I get into the next series of events please believe me that they are not a customer oriented group. When I would call to get a status on my truck they acted bothered and at times told me point blank that they didn't know what vehicle I was talking about and would pause as if that was there final response. After several minutes of back and forth they would finally locate my truck. Once they located it they couldn't give me a status. I had to talk to BRUCE. When I finally got in contact with Bruce he told me that they had a lot of work in front of me and that they would not be able to get to my truck anytime soon. They continued to inform me that material is also a long lead time item. Possibly weeks out. I again told them that the delays are not a problem since I am in care at this time. They acted grateful for my understanding. I told them that I can wait for them to do the work because I am in an intensive inpatient rehabilitation program. Depression and Anxiety disorder. They expressed empathy and insured me that I came to the right place. Note: see initial review above regarding my situation. I continued to call, have the call logs to prove it, and even though it still felt extremely alarming that every time I called them they were rude and non committal - I chose to keep my truck there and continued to be told my truck was still weeks out. At this time Bruce has both my number and he has a direct line with extension to my insurance company. The situation is rich for an amazingly well and communicative experience BUT unfortunately it was not. The job went from being weeks out to them completing the work later that week. They never called me to tell me it was completed. I had to find out by calling them the following week. When I heard over the phone that they were done I responded with, "wow! Thank you." .....long awkward pause on the telephone....... This was a very awkward and very shitty feeling. I asked how the job went. Asking questions like how does it look and did you find any other additional damage? The response I got back was not very comforting nor did it feel forthcoming or caring. I let them know that I was surprised that they are suddenly complete and I need time to move my truck from them to caliber collision. Bruce with zero hesitation or concern that they caught me off guard with the extremely early finish says, "insurance company is paying them the balance. That I owe them $150 for a detail (this never happened) and that they will now charge me a daily storage fee of $48 dollars a day. Insinuating he was cutting me slack because they had finished the job a few days ago and could charge me fees starting then, but he will start the clock today. I was mortified. I asked why do I owe them the $150. They said they detailed it inside and out when I first brought it to them. He goes into saying it doesn't look detailed because it sat so long. I promise you it was not detailed on the outside and the inside was detailed prior to taking it to them. My truck was a stolen/recovered. The same red mud was still on the fenders. Plus - why would you charge me a $150 detail for work that was allegedly done on day 1 but no longer looks detailed for my pickup because you took so long to fix it. *this is where it feels calculated. They knew I didn't have money. So they pretended to add additional work knowing that I would be unable to pay this surprise fee....delaying pick up...and racking ip storage fees* I panicked. I asked if I could please have time to get my truck moved over to caliber collision and BRUCE told me that he could give me a day and he is sorry for the unfortunate situation - he added that, " if only he had known of my situation earlier he could have helped me." I am a patient at stepping stone. 98 days into the program and set to graduate September 5th. I have no money and to my surprise a $1,200 dollar insurance job turns into an out of pocket expense of an additional $700 dollars because of an erroneous detail that never happened and an unwillingness to acknowledge their side of the deal. Maybe I should have changed them for there delays. I am afraid to write this review because they still have my truck. I don't trust them and would be open to any advice on next steps I can take. Pulled up to Joe's Stereo out Ali comes up to my truck to ask What's going On? I tell him my touchscreen is about a year old (it was installed at another shop) and the CarPlay disconnects after a couple minutes. He looks at the touchscreen and tells me that brand is a piece of junk (I agree he is right about that). Tells me he can replace it for $480 installed. Then he sets me up by telling me to keep the steering wheel control working it would be about another $180. Told him I would think about it. I went to another Stereo Shop the next afternoon and Peter (Salesman) also tells me the touchscreen brand is junk. He offers to replace it with a Kenwood 7" touchscreen and the steering wheel control will still work. Out the door $400 (installed). He pulled it in the bay at 4:15 and it was ready at 5:15. There are better quality Stereo Shops in San Diego. Do yourself a favor and visit one. read more

WORST BODY SHOP WITH NO DOUBT I brought my 2015 Audi R8 to get my aftermarket exhaust installed. I asked them on Yelp. The estimated hours they told me was 4 hours at $90/hr rate which is $360. Next day I received a call from the mechanic for 2 broken exhaust clips that needed to be ordered from Audi. They charged me $160 each which is $320 in total. I'm not sure if they broke the part and asked me to pay the money. The same day I went to Audi San Diego, asked for the price of the clip. It is $120 each. It's not even the worst!!! I decided to trust them about the broken parts if they could finish the installation correctly. A day later, they called me to pick up the car, I found that the whole rear bumper and taillights were mispositioned with HUGE gaps between each part when I got there. I tried to talk to the mechanic in order to find a solution, but he said, "the car was originally brought like that, I even fixed it". Even if what he said were true, I couldn't understand why a professional mechanic finished a job like a 2-year-old kid building a LEGO! Especially it's a R8! Besides, he is the ruddiest mechanic I have ever met in my life. He constantly pushed the responsibility to me, kept saying, "the car was like that when you brought it", couldn't stand up like a man. I couldn't drive my car back like that, so I asked them to redo the job. When I went to pick up the car today, the gaps between parts were smaller, but the rear bumper is still a little bit sticking out. I don't want to waste my time with them anymore, so I decided to drive back. Then they gave me a $1,300 bill, 6 hours labor fee for the first day installation (The work was totally unacceptable), $320 for 2 clips (while the price from Audi is $240) and 2 hours labor fee for redoing the job. When I was negotiating the price, they thought I just wanted to find their problems and avoid bills. The mechanic became very aggressive and smashed stack of 10-dollar cash on the counter. He yelled at me, "if you don't have money, I give you money", which was hilarious to a person who drives a supercar. My car is still not in shape and I will take it to dealer to do an inspection for safety reasons. read more

I wasn't too happy with this business but neither was I dissatisfied. The vibe I got wasn't very welcoming but i understand this is a business and everyone's busy. I got a stereo, speakers and security system installed and everything was done in 1 day but my main complaint was the cost of it getting it done. Maybe im just old school and didn't expect to pay $500+ but it had to get done. The job was done very professionally and clean that i respect. If you're like me, this is the bazillionth review you've read and STILL can't decide where to go to customize your beloved car! Some places sound totally hit or miss with 1-star reviews mixed with 5-star reviews. Some places sound solid but expensive. And if you happen to be female you might have additional concerns about getting talked down to, hit on, or both... and it's nice to see some good reviews from females. Well, the most helpful thing I can say is: Do not pass GO, do not collect $200... close your browser, get in your car, and drive over. This is the place to take your baby. They take time to really listen and are great at brainstorming to help nail down the exact right look at a price you can afford. The best thing is they have a "can do" attitude. Whatever look you are going for, they will do what you want even if they have never done it before, have never even seen it done before, and they will end up doing it as well as if they have always done it. I brought in my brand spankin new Tesla Model 3 and back-lit my T emblem, lightly tinted the windows/roof, clear coated the hood and partial fenders, and custom painted my existing rims. These guys helped me design the rims to resemble a set of red & black (super expensive!!) rims I had fallen in love with, but then we blended in a third color (silver) to pull in the existing chrome trim, wherein giving the car a red, black, and deliberately silver color theme. In my opinion, the photos speak for themselves. When I picked up my new car, I left my old car with them. It had a problem even the dealership didn't know how to fix; the MPH & RPM pointers no longer lit up so I couldn't see how fast the car was going. The dealership either replaces the entire gauge cluster $$$ or else pulls it out and sends it away for several days to have a shop who specializes in gauge panels diagnose it. So I ask the guys at Joe's (who had never dealt with this, as it is very specific to older Lexus's) to just back-light the pointer or something so I can at least see how fast the car is going... I don't need them to accomplish what even the dealership can't do and light up the pointer again. The next thing I know they had figured out how to fix it to the OEM level, commented in passing that it turned out to be a very tedious job, but still only charged me what they had quoted were they to have back-lighted it. read more

Joe's Stereo is absolutely incredible! I have an 07 Chevy avalanche that I recently decided to update and upgrade a few things in. I purchased a new stereo deck, New door speakers, New 3000 watt amp, 2 12" speakers & a new custom fit enclosure. I took this all to best buy to have installed after paying $200 for "Total Tech Support" which includes free installation of all car stereo equipment. Long story short, you get what you pay for! Best buy is absolutely TRASH...they half ass installed my stereo and amp and didn't even install my subs or the enclosure. To top it all off, the amp, which was brand new, kept blowing fuses. Finally I decided to look for another shop to fix the mess Best Buy made. I looked on yelp and found Joe's Stereo. I sent a request for quote and was replied to within minutes! A great sign if you ask me. As it turns out, it only got better. I looked at all the great reviews and was comforted in choosing them to do the work. After explaining my issues, I was told by Ahmad to bring my truck in and they would address everything. They not only fixed all the mistakes Best Buy made but they also fixed a couple other things that had been giving me grief. They fixed the wiring issue, replaced my amp with a newer and better one, installed my subs into the custom enclosure and then installed the enclosure into the truck, which replaced the oem midgate wall (looks better than factory now). They also fixed a stuck door that wouldn't open, retinted my windows that were done half assed and installed aftermarket dash usb ports. They even fixed my tailgate spoiler that was giving me grief because the Best Buy guy broke the retaining clips when installing the new backup camera! I'll say it again...Joe's Stereo is fantastic! All work was done professionally, efficiently and at a great price. They not only gave me a nice discount on everything including the new amp but also gave me an additional military discount on top of it! I highly recommend taking your business to them! You won't be disappointed. If you're like me and looking for a place and are on the fence about whose reviews to trust, take it from me and give them your business. They are beyond fantastic. I needed a new radio in my car, and because of the make/model it requires a little more work than just switching out the head unit. I contacted the shop by phone to see if they were familiar with what I needed and had the parts in stock. Luckily they did. They did not push me to make an appointment when I said I was unsure of what I was going to do and when. They just suggested I call back before bringing it in to double check that they still had the specific part I needed for my car. When I made my decision, I called them back and they checked on the parts, confirmed and told me to come down when I wanted. I brought the car in on a Saturday, I told them what I was looking for. They showed me exactly what I was asking for, and didn't try to oversell me on things I didn't need. (Although my friend who came with me did convince me I needed something more than I originally intended.) What they quoted me on-site was on par with what they quoted me on the phone. They also were friendly and explained things that I wanted them to, but did not try to patronize me at all. They quoted about a 4-5 Hour install time. The installation took a little longer than expected, but it was still same day. Overall good experience with them both on the phone and during the visit. I would go to the shop again. read more
