People who are angry because they think that this rescue should be a convenient drop off for the animals they no longer want, are very self-centered, and don't have any appreciation for the fact that all shelters and rescues have a limit, and people should be responsible for the rehoming of animals they no longer want. And for the person who declared it a "hell hole," everyone can see for themselves the wonderful accommodations which have been put in place for the animals. And, as a long time rescuer myself, I've learned over the years that adopting out animals to people you don't know personally can lead to tragic results. I no longer do it, either.

Her dogs are beautiful, healthy and obviously well cared for. She can be tough as nails at times, but is completely honest and totally fair...this woman loves her dogs, period, which is what I want from my breeder. After breeding dogs for decades, she has an established system that has worked for her pups, and she takes the time to identify products and help you secure the proper equipment to help ease the transition for your new arrival. I found this game plan extremely helpful, as it had been some time since I brought home a new puppy. It works, but hey, if this situation is not for you, go take your chances with another breeder...it's really simple. This organization is readily transparent, and does not blow smoke, which is refreshingly honest and authentic...knowing she cares so much for her puppies is more important to me than beating around the bush. Plus, there are a lot of puppy mills and scams out there...a friend of mine was recently a victim of one such fraudulent scheme. When I heard the story, I was immediately grateful once again to have had Brittany's Ramblin' as my breeder. At the end of the day, I want to know that my puppy is healthy and has been well taken care of, and that I am dealing with an honest organization that has our family's best interest in mind and will not take advantage. With Brittany's Ramblin', I know that for a fact, and it is reassuring.

Our appointment was at 10:15am, and while the website says the test is about 15 minutes, I expected it to run longer (you're working with animals, after all). We ended up being there until about 12:30pm, and honestly it was worth every minute. A few tips: -Definitely bring an SUV if you can, the last stretch of dirt road is steep, bumpy with potholes, and super dusty. -There are porta potties but no hand-washing station, so come prepared. -Shade is limited, so bring a hat, sunblock, and plenty of water. And wear boots you don't mind getting dusty! Now, about the trainers: anyone complaining about Paul really needs to get over themselves, lol. He's dry, sarcastic, and doesn't care about sugar-coating things- but he's good at what he does, and honestly I think he's hilarious. You're coming to a ranch to watch your dog tap into their primal instincts, not a spa retreat. It's gritty and authentic, exactly what you'd expect from someone teaching skills that working cowboys have relied on for generations. We started with Paul, then switched to Janna in a more private area since Taco was distracted by other dogs in the big pen. Once she had fewer distractions, she absolutely thrived! she went in three times total and passed her instinct test on her very first day! Janna was amazing with her. The way she spoke about dogs was so soft, thoughtful, and full of love. you can tell she really cares about each dog as an individual. Her patience and gentle approach made the whole experience feel special, and Taco clearly felt comfortable with her. And for anyone spreading misinformation about Janna's GoFundMe being a fraud: her facility in Malibu really did burn down in the fires. It's sad how quick people are to make assumptions without knowing the full story. Overall, Drummond Ranch was a fantastic experience. If you go in with realistic expectations, time runs differently here, it's dusty, hot, and not polished, you and your dog will have a blast. Taco sure did, and we'll definitely be back!

After my dog did really well (in fairness the handler who took the dogs into the ring was very nice), I said "see, he proved you wrong", the owner grunted "I wasn't watching". Just an all around unpleasant experience. I feel bad for the woman who takes the payments, she seemed embarrassed by his behavior.

I am extremely heartbroken and regret using a breeder who does not genetic test their dogs. Because Barbara does not, I lost my sweet longhaired mini dachshund at just under a year and a half old to a rare autoimmune disease that would have been avoided had she tested her dogs. At a year old, my baby boy started developing an issue where he would regurgitate up all his food. He was tested for and diagnosed with an extremely rare autoimmune disease, myasthenia gravis. It is essentially a disease that impacts the body's muscle ability to function. It had appeared dormant in him, but can manifest either later on, or straight after birth. Dogs with myasthenia gravis can have the potential to live long and healthy lifes, but only with constant monitoring of their eating habits. A dog with myasthenia gravis must be watched constantly and can not be allowed to eat or drink water if it is not in an upright position. That is the only way to ensure a healthy life. He lost eyelid function and could not close his eyes; he developed facial drooping, and the worst of all, he developed irreversible esophageal damage. He could not even eat a bug off the ground without regurgitating it back up. Because of the disease, I had to have him on a series of medications, management from a vet as well as a neurologist, and feed him solely in an upright position (for at least 20-30 minutes), lest he regurgitate his food. The issue behind regurgitation is aspiration pneumonia, which can be lethal at worst, and at best, require medication and hospitalization. This diagnosis and treatment cost over $25,000, as in the process of diagnosing myasthenia gravis, my poor boy developed pneumonia twice. I ultimately had no choice but to put him down when he developed pneumonia a third time and his body could not fight off the infection. He was suffering and no amount of oxygen therapy or antibiotics would have cured the infection. This disease would have been completely preventable had Barbara tested her dogs for genetic diseases. As a recessive gene, myasthenia gravis is extremely rare. However, it is passed to offspring when both parents are carriers for the gene. This means that two of her breeding dogs must be carriers for myasthenia gravis, and the likelihood of additional puppies being born with it are high. Save yourself the tens of thousands of dollars, time, and heartbreak and find a breeder that genetic tests their dogs. I am heartbroken every day of my life after losing my sweet boy. Anyone who has ever owned a dachshund knows that they are always close to you, and the bond you develop is incredible. It is heartbreaking to have lost my sweet boy at one and a half years old to a disease that could have been avoided if responsible breeding was done. Not only was it a severe financial constraint to have to pay over $25,000 to try to keep him alive, but I neglected myself as well, losing sleep, and constantly on edge and attempting to avoid him eating anything, lest he develop aspiration pneumonia. It was exhausting constantly living on edge, but that is the only way to give a dog with myasthenia gravis a long and healthy life. I'm heartbroken, exhaused, and finally starting to recover mentally after losing my sweet boy. Do not do the same; find a breeder that genetic tests their dogs, and ask to see the testing. Ethical breeders are happy to do so.

Most people recognize them as the spokes-dog for the ever-so-popular Hush Puppies brand of shoes. Admirers are drawn to their short stature, droopy eyes, and long ears. The problem is that a lot of people aren't truly prepared for the amount of work that goes into raising and caring for a Basset. When families give up on these little guys, they often get dumped in the pounds and have very little time to get out alive! Thanks to the hard work of countless volunteers, many Hounds have been given a second chance at life. Daphneyland, aka The Basset Rescue Network is located in the city of Acton. The property is quite large, having 5 acres for Bassets to roam within a safe environment. Several runs house the dogs but often times, they run freely around the yard. Dogs that are going through cancer treatments are kept in the main home on the property. Special needs dogs in doggy wheel chairs still roam freely and continue to enjoy life. They all just kind of hang out and await that moment in which someone will take them home and love them forever. From what I was told, you don't chose your dog....it will choose you! We were chosen by quite a few Bassets today and it was overwhelming to say the least. To hear the backstories on some of these Hounds is absolutely heartbreaking! These were someone's pets, a child's best friend, or gift to someone who simply thought they were "cute". It's refreshing to know that the volunteers and staff at Basset Rescue Network are so devoted to these dogs. If they don't get adopted, then they get to live out the rest of their lives here. Anyway, if you go to Daphneyland's website, you'll fill out an application for adoption. They'll review it and then call your veterinarian for a reference. A volunteer will perform a home inspection and then they'll decide if a Hound would do well with your family. If you make it this far, then the hard part will be choosing which lucky Hound will live with you in its new forever home! While we are still in the application phase and don't know if we've found the perfect Hound for us, I am still so grateful for this experience. Interacting with all of these wonderful dogs for a few hours was absolutely amazing. There are many rescue organizations to choose from but this one seems to have their ducks in a row. It's well-organized, their heart is in the right place, they look out for the best interest of the dogs, and they will go the extra mile to rescue a Hound. If you're looking to add a lovable Hound into your life, reach out to the staff at Basset Rescue Network (Daphneyland). Whether you take one home or just come out to give them the attention that they need, you'll still leave feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
