How is this little gem such a well kept secret? I needed a place with no appointment to do my smog and called around and the lady who answered the phone was super pleasant. Took less than 15 min from start to finish once I got there. Clean easy to get to place and woman owned which is a bonus - especially as a woman who hates to do any car maintenance and have to interact with the auto bros. Cannot recommend enough! read more

The amazing people at Auburn smog helped me get my car to pass. I had just replaced my car battery and the computer needed to do some gymnastics in order for it to even try to smog. I drove it around town. I brought it to temperature and down. All sorts of things and brought it back and it still failed. The lady there looked up the specifics for my car and what I needed to do exactly in order to get the computer to go through the sensors so that it could run a smog. I followed what she gave me to the letter, brought it directly back and everything went perfectly. Seriously above and beyond and I'm so grateful. I recommend the shop to anybody and everybody. I have never felt the need to leave a Yelp review...until today. Lynda at Auburn Smog is not only a hard worker, but an incredibly rare find as a mechanic. Before I went to Auburn Smog another mechanic (with a very similar business name) in Auburn lied to me about the work I needed to have done on my truck. This has happened to me in the past; likely because I am the "clueless female" that certain mechanics prey on, hoping to make some easy money. I had a feeling that this mechanic was full of s**t and decided to get a second opinion. Thank God I did! Not only was Lynda smart and quick with her estimate, but in a nutshell it was less than half of what the previous mechanic wanted to charge me. After the repair was done and the certificate was in hand, I had major problems at the DMV. They clearly did not have any knowledge about the type of truck I have and they made me jump through several expensive and time consuming hoops with the CHP. Again Lynda helped with the oblivious DMV employees and even helped reel in my frustrations and anger. I finally got the darn truck registered thanks to Lynda and her stellar employees. This is a family business! 3 generations working together, giving excellent service. I came in at the last half hour of a Friday. They didn't hesitate to still help me. My Toyota Van needed to be smogged, and I wanted to learn what my "check engine" light was all about. They checked it out, diagnosed the thermostat was stuck, and scheduled me for a repair. Here I sit, while they install a new thermostat. I didn't have to wait, they took my Van right into the garage and started working on it right away. These are efficient, knowledgeable, and pleasant professionals! I really lucked out finding them. Of course, I used Yelp, as usual, to find them in the first place. I decided to shout out loudly about how truly GREAT they are at Auburn Smog, because I do not remember the last time I got such great service. If you call, expect them to be busy. Let me tell u...I have a black lab as my service dog. When I walked up to the door I noticed a chihuahua type dog inside. We walked in and they both were sniffing ea other, THEN for NO REASON that dog bit my dog. Did not break the skin, but i was pretty shocked how aggressive the bite was. My dog did NOT react in any manner. I could not believe it! I started scanning the rm to see who the dog belonged to. There was a man sitting in a chair and 3 adults standing. I was waiting for 1 of them to come forward and grab there dog and at the very least, apologize. The bite didn't break the skin, but non the less, it happened. Just about then the 2 adults standing walked out and 1 man walked in the back. I asked the man sitting if the dog was his, he said no. Since they already took my info and keys to start work, there was no one at the counter. So, my dog and I took a seat, been there about 45min. I needed to take my dog potty so I waited for someone to come to the counter and I had asked about how much longer she thought it might be. She told me they had to restart the machine, she's not sure, maybe 1/2 hr or so, I had no where to be that day so I told her, "ok, no problem, I just have to take my dog out to go potty, asked if that small dog was their's, she told me yes, why, i told her the dog bit my service dog. Did not break the skin, but i didn't appreciate it. I walked out the door to take my dog to the restroom. I walked a few steps and the owner approached me and said to me, "ma'am, I really don't know what the problem is, but to tell us to hurry up is not how we run our business." I was TOTALLY shocked at the confrontation, first of all, second, that IS NOT what I said AT ALL. I told her what I did say and gestured to my dog, that is what exactly what I was doing. She just said ok and walked off. I was still in shock at the confrontation and what she just said to me. So I was in no hurry, like I said, and was kinda taking my time on the walk. As we were headed back, the same owner who confronted me at the beginning of the walk, met me at the end of the sidewalk, down away from her shop past the next door business. She tells me she doesn't have the best news for me. Tells me she's not going to pass me. I asked why. She tells me a code came up for traction control. Told me when this happens there are some steps she is supposed to do per the state of CA. Usually takes about 20 minutes, but she's just not going to do this. She does not feel she needs to spend her time to do this. Precedes to tell me she and the state of CA have some disagreements regarding this. Tells me this is her shop and she doesn't feel the state of CA has the right to tell her this. Tells me They both have disagreements when it comes to this. I asked her if she could write the code down that she is failing me for, she told me no, she would hand me my paperwork that had my info on it, but that she told me and that was that. I just took my paper from her, said ok. I went bk to the shop gathered my things and left. The next day I went to a different shop, waited about 45min, told me i passed, I said ty, pd my fee and went home. If I could give Auburn Smog a half a star I would. I don't feel a business has any right to treat a customer this way. read more

I just got my car smogged at Auburn Smog. I was in and out in about 15 minutes without an appointment. Their space is comfortable and warm. The owner did the smog test herself. This is a locally-owned gem and they deserve our support. I wish I needed to smog my car more than every other two years just to be able to see my money support a local family rather than a large corporation. read more
