Auberge de Luins' specialty is the Malakoff, a breaded, fried cheese ball that's to die for. They have a golden fried outside that has a somewhat crisp texture, and inside is oozing melted cheese (mostly or all Gruyere I think). The combination of textures and flavors is so so good. Malakoffs belongs in the holy trinity of cheese dishes with fondue and raclette, and might be my favorite of all.
I have only had the Malakoffs here, but there are other offerings including fish and meat dishes. Some of my friends have ordered these and gave them high marks as well, but the Malakoffs to me are what make this place special. You can't get them in other parts of Switzerland, and if you like cheese, these are amazing.
I always go with the menu Maison, which comes with a nice variety of dried meats (delicious), salad (simple with a nice dressing), bread, small pickles and onions, ALL YOU CAN EAT Malakoffs, and a choice of dessert. It is a fantastic value for Switzerland, at only 38 CHF. And believe me, if you go to this place for lunch and have your fill of Malakoffs (which for me is about 6), then you will not be hungry at all for dinner.
I can't recommend this place enough. It's one of those truly unique places with a food that doesn't exist outside the area. read more
