Walter

This was a very nice and quaint place to stay. You are going to haul your suitcases up a few flights of stairs depending on which floor you're on. We were on the third floor which has dormers which make it a little bit hard to stand up in. They will tell you on the reservation, but don't forget, that they will close at 7 PM. So you would be out of luck if you got there after seven. They were very nice to call us as we were still on our way at 6 PM and we hustled to get there. I had the sense that if we were there after 7 PM they would've made some sort of accommodation. The breakfast which comes with the room was excellent. This is not a five-star hotel and much more like a bed-and-breakfast. It's a very sweet place with excellent ownership which included Walter the dog. The area around the Inn at the Lake is excellent. I would stay away from the restaurant directly across from the from the Inn. They told us that was the only restaurant open but we went to Magog and found some excellent restaurants there. It's definitely worth traveling a bit to find better restaurants. We didn't go into that one, Pilsen, but just read the reviews which were very sketchy.

Went into Champlain chocolates and even though it was busy, they got us our orders quickly and…read moreefficiently. Is the place pricey for wha it is, yes, but is it quality chocolate, also yes. I got the small signature hot chocolate which was delightfully rich and delicious. It was so rich, I don't think I could have had a bigger size if I wanted to. I also got a plethora of chocolates to go, I haven't tried them yet, but they look good.

Well, I ordered some chocolate bars with hazelnut praline filling for a Victorian Christmas tea…read morethat I was giving. I was surprised to see that the ingredients included a great deal more than chocolate and hazelnut praline. Actually, I was disappointed because we all know it's difficult to get exquisite chocolate here in the United States, I thought Lake Champlain chocolates were a cut above. I looked at the ingredients after I took a bite of the chocolate with hazelnut praline filling because it did not taste right; it tasted like it had other stuff in it besides high quality chocolate and hazelnut praline filling. I looked at the label and sure enough it has a LOT of other stuff in it that should not be in it. I took a photograph of the front and back of the labels but I don't know if I'll be able to upload it. Before you buy, if you are a purist like me, I recommend you read the labels. At least I can tell you that the ingredients included wheat, soy beans, peanuts, and other things that really shouldn't have been included. I am soooooooooo disappointed. Unfortunately, I shall not be buying any Lake Champlain chocolates anymore because I want to buy the real thing. I don't want to buy American corporate reductionist products that just don't measure up. I am actually very sad ...

We had such a nice experience at the Stowe location. Friendly service and excellent chocolates and…read morehot chocolates. We loved the treats.

When we travel, which hasn't been often for us, we not only figure out what sightseeing we want to…read moredo and what hotels to stay at, but a huge part of it revolves around the food. Of course it does !! I look at others who deal with food on the fly, meaning they'll just grab something with no aforethought, and I'm thinking... NO f'ing way. I want the scoop on what's good, what isn't, to include meal food, snack-type foods, and my favorite, the sweet factor. Gotta hit local bakery and chocolate shops and gotta know ahead of time where those are and when they're open. As is the case with Vermont, we found A GREAT MANY places either close early (or earlier than we'd prefer) or aren't even open the days we were floating through the various towns. However, Lake Champlain Chocolates was one of the few places that is open seven days a week. Yay, no pressure to beat the clock here. Inviting presentation of beautifully crafted chocolates, and let me tell you, they tasted as wonderful as they looked. We bought and devoured the following: 1. chocolate covered orange rinds - excellent quality chocolate and extremely fresh orange rind. 2. chocolate covered apricots - same excellent chocolate, but SUPER IMPRESSED with how soft and fresh the dried apricot slices were. Really plump and easy to bite into, and the chocolate just melted in our mouths. The BEST I've had !! 3. chocolate caramels - hard to go wrong with these. Delicious... and just the right amount of chew. 4. Hazelnut truffle, champagne truffle, and a piece of toffee - we only bought one of each of these and we're sorry that was all. They were delicious, but only getting one small bite of each wasn't enough. It's difficult to know how much to get; plus we didn't want to overindulge at the beginning of our trip. Now I'm thinking, shoulda overindulged, lol. Oh well. This is a great place to stop if you want something sweet, if you want INCREDIBLY FRESH chocolates, not to mention DELICIOUS chocolates, and I understand that they are really well known for their hot chocolate, too !! However, we were there during an unseasonably hot summer day (according to the locals), so we were vying for nothing but cooling off type things. Anyway, if you're reading this review, and you're in Stowe, GO HERE !!! (They have other locations in other parts of Vermont, too, but this is the one we descended upon.
