Au Pair International is probably the worst agency out there. First, look at how they advertise or…read moremarket: They require a $650 fee just to apply (no other agency I checked with has an application fee more than $100), but on their website, they induce you to apply by saying the fee will be waived if you apply be the end of the month. Next month, and every month after that has the same "promotion". Our local coordination, Michelle Hom, is lazy and lies. She never bothered to check our house until after we paid and completed the agreement (the agency is supposed to check before in case your room does not qualify). She then comes to our house and start telling us bad things about Au Pairs, for example, they come here either to play with boys, learn English, or make money - nothing to do with enjoying taking care of children. Other Au Pairs told me that she plays the Au Pairs against the host family as well. They only care if you sign the contract and pay the money because once you pay the money, if you decide to cancel later, you are mostly SOL. No matter what complaints they have received of the Au Pairs, they do not care, but want to rematch them as quickly as possible because the data on the Au Pairs is reported to the State Dept as required by law. For example, if they have a high percentage of Au Pairs who have to return to their country before the end of their contract, it will raise concern among the State Dept. Ilka and Katrina are also complicit. Most of the Au Pairs they have are from South America (such as Argentina). My advice is to stay from these Au Pairs. They are rarely here to babysit or learn English. They come largely for one reasons - you can guess what it is. Our former Au Pair, Valentina, is like that.

As an experienced nanny, I completed their onboarding process, which included providing references. My references shared that the process was very time-consuming, and I truly appreciated the effort they put in to support me. During this time, I was transparent that I was actively looking for my next nanny position and that finding a new role was important due to changes with my current family. After completing the process, I did not feel supported in my search. I was rarely contacted about opportunities that aligned with what I was looking for, and when I proactively reached out about positions listed on their job board, communication was often inconsistent. There were multiple occasions where I did not receive a response, could not reach someone by phone, or was told that positions still listed as open had already been filled and needed to be updated. When I needed to begin my search again after my previous nanny contract ended, I reached out once more and provided updated information, but unfortunately experienced many of the same communication challenges. While they did eventually reach out about a couple of opportunities, I never progressed to an interview or placement through ABC Nannies. Ultimately, I found my nanny position through another local agency, and the experience was completely different. They took the time to understand what I was looking for, communicated consistently, and made me feel supported and advocated for throughout the process. I understand agencies work with many families and candidates and cannot guarantee placement. However, nannies are also relying on agencies during important career transitions, and clear communication is incredibly important. After completing the steps required to join the nanny pool, I was disappointed that I did not feel supported throughout the process. I hope ABC Nannies takes feedback like this seriously and continues working toward improving communication and the overall experience for nanny candidates.

Nannies of the Rockies is a complete scam. Do not go anywhere near this company. I am working with…read morethe City of the Boulder on a consumer complaint investigation on this company and we are also working with a lawyer to pursue this company for the harm they caused my family. We lost $11,000 in commission on a nanny that didn't work out for stealing and lying and Nannies of the Rockies completely disappeared and did not return our emails and phone calls. If anyone has had issues with Nannies of the Rockies, please reach out to me. We believe their contract is an unenforceable contract as you cannot accept a commission and then disappear. It's called a negligence and the company may be liable for damages including the wages we spent on the nanny and additional damages beyond the commission and wages. The company did not disclose that the nanny did not work out with prior families. We found this out later. Instead, they sold us on the nanny being the best they have ever represented. We are also discussing with the Department of Justice on not disclosing material facts in an attempt to make a quick gain from your customer. They then put the nanny back up on the site without inquiring with us what the stealing and lying pertained to, which means they are cycling through commissions on the same person multiple times in one year -- this deepens the gross negligence of not disclosing our situation to future families. Do not let this negligent company put a childcare placement in your home. They are the most unprofessional, unethical and scandalous company I have ever come across. To disappear after pocketing $11,000 while recycling nannies that don't work out in other homes ... good luck getting away with that. For anyone needing home care, go to Indeed.com and put up your own advertisement and do you own search. My hope is the State of Colorado recognizes the sheer negligence they have shown their customer -- who has a small child. We are talking about families and children here and they're trying to run some shell of an operation where they take your check and cash it before the nanny even sets foot in your home (and of course, they insist it's a check bc you can't open a credit card dispute) -- this company reeks of scam (nobody requires only a check anymore) and it's time someone stand up to these terrible practices. The contract is not worth the paper it is written on. We will not let them bully us on the contract, it is complete and absolute nonsense to take a commission and claim you have no obligations to the customer. The fact they did not return our calls or emails after taking $11,000 and we emailed them a long email explaining the contract was terminated for stealing and lying (and then putting the nanny back onto the site) says everything in terms of the negligence this company is demonstrating in the State of Colorado. We will also have taken note of the so-called good reviews on this company and will investigate further to see how many of them were legitimate customers (so many have 1 review only under their name). And we will be contacting those who left bad reviews to see how many cases of negligence there is where this company took a five-digit commission and disappeared when the nanny did not work out. If you're looking for care from your child, you should heed the bad reviews and do not fall for the good reviews (with only 1 prior review, etc). Indeed.com will product quality nannies that you can run your own background check on -- don't give your money to this scam.

Then.... Stuff hits the fan.. . She gets super awkward, leaves my two year old alone in the cul-de-sac etc, and I end up letting her go (to put it gently). This was last Wednesday/Thursday. Miss Rita can pick 'em well. Our kids have learned, grown, socialized, and played a ton--exactly what they need. When we first moved to town, we looked for daycare options in every prospective neighborhood, which is to say a lot. The yard at Strawberry Farm was the first indication this place is the best. It's a huge yard. There's a "car" area for driving, grass area, playhouses and slides, sometimes a bouncy house, sometimes a sprinkler, always a sun-protected sandbox. In the summer, there's a sun shade canopy over the kid-height picnic table and benches. There's a garden the kids help with. Inside is cozy. The whole downstairs is for kids--a quiet, dark nap room, another nap room for the youngest so they can sleep longer, a music room, cozy living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom with changing station/small toilets and sinks the kids can reach. The schedule is posted in the entrance hall. The kids have drawers and hanging pockets for delivering and picking up things. More about sleep: Our oldest had just turned 3 and we were lucky there was a spot open. The little one was 1 and no spot. He went somewhere else that was...fine...he was safe and fed. However, maybe they never turned the lights off? or didn't have a quiet room? hard to imagine but he didn't nap. They said he wouldn't nap, which was nonsense. At pick up sometimes he was asleep literally on the floor of the main room. He'd sleep in the car/bike, pass out at home and barely revive for dinner. We had to move him ASAP. Once with Miss Rita, he napped perfectly fine without any trouble. Such a relief. They have healthy food and snack every day. Lunch is prepared and the menu posted daily (I love that). They occasionally take fieldtrips to the library and a local Italian restaurant (and send along any leftovers). They have circle time and interactively enjoy story books every day. They learn manners, taking turns and polite language that has been very helpful to use at home. Life is never always smooth and to help with that, Rita will always make time to discuss concerns and issues. We've talked to her when we wondered about our kids and she talked to us when there was something we could help with. That communication is important.
