Okay, looking for work, and applying to everything I'm qualified for. I also get calls all the time at home, based on monster and Linkedin listings. It was a busy week for me, personally, I had taxes due. But it's important to note, I always prioritize the job search. I got a call from this organization. It was a man, who told me about a great opportunity. He had seen my resume, and wanted me to come in for an interview. Now, it was odd, because, normally, when I get these calls, the recruiter, will have a long script they go down, and they always ask me specific questions about the particular position. But he said very little, and sent me one of those online meeting requests. No job description, no address, no "building instructions." He did tell me this stuff verbally on the phone. But very vague. I even asked him if it was the same building with "Alliant Insurance" and he responded "I have no idea." I hate that response, one of my pet peeves. Why not: "I'm not sure, maybe, I have to check on that.." anything that gives the appearance that you give a rat's ass about those people you are trying to serve. It didn't' matter, since I was familiar enough to know I was correct. I told him, at first, well, it's tax day, and I'm trying to finish my taxes today. Can I have another day, later this week...he interrupted by saying, this was a hot offering, and he didn't know if it would be available until later this week. Hmm, pressure, should have been my first clue...Another thing...what he was asking about, could have been assessed over the phone. Why did I have to come down? I didn't ask, but this was another clue. I begrudgingly made an appointment (but stayed positive on the phone with him.) Only "instructions" were to ask the doorman to let me up, and to "dress sharp." Hmmmm. I went down, and lo and behold, it was the building I was thinking about. I sat at the bottom of the building and waited until the appointment time, but I still had this uneasy feeling. Something didn't seem right..So I text-ed my wife the address and told her where I was..better safe than sorry. It should be noted this is a professional building, and it was not dicey or anything, just wanted to be careful. The man came in, and asked me some basic questions, but then asked me if I was married. Later he asked me what my "spouse" did for work?....hmmmm. I have read a lot of employment books and online sites, and they teach you: if you are asked an inappropriate or illegal question, best to just proceed, and treat it like a "conversational" question, instead of an interview question. Which is exactly what I did. I don't think I've ever been asked "what my spouse" does..I don't think I had even mentioned her, but I think I might have said (when at home) that she was sleeping, or something like that. Still, NOT APPROPRIATE to ask such a question, in any context, in an interview. Very important: I let stuff roll off my shoulders, and didn't really care he had asked. But I know it's not right and some would be pissed off, or whatever. I'm an open book and short of asking about my Health, or my SS#, without a job offer, I wasn't gonna freak out. The interview/job description was very lame. He said: well, having looked at your resume, I can see this job might not be best for you....HE COULD HAVE ASSESSED THAT OVER THE PHONE! I'm not somebody you need to see in person, I'm always very clean, and presentable. I'm a "dream hire" in the presentation department. Trust me. Not bragging, just pointing this out, so that those reading this, don't think I was rejected based on my appearance or any other "illegal assessment" tool. He told me he was a "technical" recruiter, and that the job was "too technical" for my qualifications. Again, easily assessed over the phone. Then, another colleague came in. She told me about some administrative roles. I don't know if this would qualify for "bait and switch" but it sure felt like it. I also happen to know that job agencies have to have an official record of jobs listed, and they have to be real jobs, and available. It wouldn't surprise me, if this agency breaks that rule from time to time. It seemed to be the case that day. The female colleague, spoke to me professionally, didn't make any mistakes, and gave me a long resume tools assessment. I didn't make any changes, and knew I wouldn't be turning to them or any more advice or job's recruitment help. She said good bye, and I "promised" I would be in touch...fingers crossed. The man returned, and yes, made some more outrageous statements: turns out, he was interested in my "voice over" work, not even on my resume but was on my LinkedIn. He got all excited, when I told him about my classes and gave him some legitimate advice...What a lark. I actually believe, it was all a farce, to "ask me" about that. What a joke! Ohh then, BART was delayed two hours...Thank you sir, may I have another? #FAIL read more

So I haven't written a review in a while but I had to because of my great experience with them! My recruiter was Katie Mason and she is one of the best recruiters I've ever had the pleasure of working with. I've worked with several other firms but this one and Katie by far provided one of the greatest experiences. Atrium as a whole cares a lot about the people that they're working with; we're not just another number to them. I say this because they had originally placed me at a temp to hire position which I knew wouldn't work out after the first day. When I checked in with them they immediately listened to what I had to say and looked for other positions for me. They really take your best interest in mind rather than their own profit which I really appreciate. Katie is always really responsive and if you tell her exactly what you want, she will keep an eye out for you; she really advocated for me which I appreciated. Overall, I was very lucky to work with such a great company and recruiter would recommend them to everyone I know (which I have for people I know that are looking for jobs). read more

I moved back to the US after living abroad for most of my adult life. I was new to the job market, the city and, frankly, I was having a hard time. I applied to over 50 jobs in my first month here of all kinds with varying degrees of success. I was unsure about what I really wanted to do, and was beginning to feel lost and discouraged. I think anyone who has actively sought employment without much luck can relate to the feeling. Then, I was approached by Katie of Atrium in SF through my LinkedIn profile. We scheduled a call and even on the phone, she was encouraging, upbeat, kind and gave me confidence. When I went in for the interview (as I had not interviewed in a formal setting in America since my college days), I was hands-trembling-levels-of-nervous. I had not considered this field previously, but was intrigued by the myriad of "hats" you get to wear in commercial real estate - customer service, construction/project management, architecture, engineering, public relations, and many more. We pin-pointed my goals and expectations so that Katie could assist me in finding a job that fulfilled me. I had an interview at a great building for a position working with a knowledgeable and top-tier property management team and won a temp-to-hire-position. Katie was always available to talk, an open book with communication and explaining the process, coached me on the do's and don'ts of my interview/hiring process from dress, to formatting and improving the strength my resume, mock interviews, etc. I think "temp" work may get a bad rep for whatever reason, but I am so grateful that I was approached by Katie and that she helped me make it happen. I can't tell you how great my experience was working with Atrium, because it was honestly life changing!! When I turned 30, I decided I was miserable and needed a new job. I landed a job working short term for a property management company to check it out, to see if I liked it. I ended up loving it and wanted to explore the possibility of making my career in property management. As I was interviewing for several jobs, I was introduced to Paul and Rita with Atrium. After only one week and two JOB OFFERS later, I landed a 'temp-to-hire' gig with a company in SF. Don't let the term scare you! 'Temp-to-hire' is a great way for them to test you out and you to test them. In this particular case...I HATED THE PLACE!!! I called Paul and told him how toxic and horrible they were. Paul called me the same day and had another interview set up for me the VERY NEXT DAY for a similar position that was also temp-to-hire. I interviewed, and got it! I was able to move on the the following week. Not only did I get the job, they hired me as a permanent employee! I love my job, the people I work with, the commute...it's all great! If you need a new direction, if you are looking for someone to help you find a workplace that you fit in, with managers that appreciate you, you need to call Atrium and trust that they will bring you opportunities that you would not find otherwise. After going through agencies like Staffmark, Snelling, Benchmark and other temporary agencies this is by far the best agency I've encountered!! The assess your skills, preference in position and salary requirements. Then they have representatives cross reference what clients they have that would consider hiring you. Unlike other agencies who seem to throw your resume out there, Atrium is very hands on and don't let your application gather dust. They contact you as soon as their clients make contact and discuss the position with you. If your like me and were use to temporary positions, this place can definitely help create a stable pay situation for you. After only 2 temporary assignments, I am now placed in a permanent salary based position and I couldn't be more grateful to Atrium for getting me there. If your background matches their client base requirements, I would definitely give Atrium a shot. Paul and Rita Cenni are great! read more
