My brother and I stopped into Atomic Coffee while we were in Fargo for a family get together. Not only was Atomic Coffee a nice change from the hotel, it was a simply a great indie coffee shop. The place had a nice atmosphere, lots of places to sit and fun art on the wall - everything you want in a coffee shop. Well, that and good coffee I suppose. I had peppermint tea, which really hit the spot that chilly morning. The person working behind the counter was friendly and they had lots of yummy looking treats in the case. First off, the cafe is huge! It's a great place to sit and chat or use your computer. The space is nice and open, bright, with big windows that provide you a wonderful view of the street and passersby. The coffee...not so much. It's expensive! I've had cheaper, better, espresso drinks in NYC. The up-charges are really extraordinary. I guess it would have been more tolerable had the late I'd been handed been excellent, but that simply wasn't so. The pastry/sandwich case looked so unappealing with everything individually wrapped in plastic that we didn't even try anything. Atomic Coffee is a local coffee shop in the heart of downtown Fargo. They offer standard coffee and tea choices for those early, frigid North Dakota mornings (middays, afternoons, and evenings--they are open early and late), and have a limited selection of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. I consider their food choices to be "brunchy" and would be terrific for any midday snack. It is stylish, comfortable, has plenty of seating and nice big storefront windows that let in plenty of natural light. One of the main reasons that I prefer Atomic Coffee as a place to get caffeinated and work is that it is an interesting place for people watching, and the ambiance of downtown penetrates almost every aspect of Atomic Coffee. They offer free internet, and AC is easy to find on the main Broadway strip, an easy walk from my downtown apartment. I must admit that I often shy away from reviewing coffee shops because I don't drink coffee and never have. I also can't pass along any comments on the quality of their coffee from friends so you should rely on other reviews if coffee quality is your most important consideration when choosing a coffee shop. As an alternative, I have tried their teas, and they make a tasty chai tea latte if you're into that. I have also tried their desserts as treats while I worked (and borrowed free internet), and I have treated myself to brunch there on a couple of Sunday mornings--enjoying their wraps and salads. You could get a cheaper drink and bite to eat at other coffee shops in the downtown area, but nothing at Atomic Coffee is priced too high to pass on. Overall, I enjoy Atomic Coffee because it gives you exactly what most people are looking for in a coffee shop. More importantly, it's a local business supporting the crowd of folks that live and/or work downtown. Nice, bright hipster coffee shop right in the middle of downtown that's open late. I had a soy latte and it was nice a strong, though a bit on the pricey side. The staff were friendly. There was a ton of space in there and it's open pretty late for a coffee shop. It looked to be mostly college students in there on a Saturday night around 10 (likely finals cramming time). read more

It's a nice place to go to and the environment is pretty conducive to being productive, except for the very disappointing wifi. Nice space. Good coffee. Friendly staff. Horrible wifi. The reason I am only giving 3 stars is that the wifi was so poor. It is unusably slow. I was there on a weekday morning and there were a half dozen people on their computers or tablets. This was apparently too much for their routers. Pages took literally ~5 minutes to load. Coffee shops need to realize that people rely on their wifi when traveling much as people rely on gas station bathrooms. Atomic Coffee needs to beef up their interweb infrastructure and it will be a great place. read more

Super cute place. It's got a hipster-esque feeling, the wall of bicycle wheels is a nice touch. It's pretty smack dab in the middle of downtown, and the cold press was pretty good! Great location downtown. The large picture window is great for people watching. This is the best part of this coffee shop. The coffee was bland. Nothing to really speak about. On the plus side they have real coffee cups to drink out of which is nice. The chocolate croissant I had did have a good amount of chocolate but was not light and flaky as it should have been. My daytime home, on the rare occasions I return to my hometown Fargo. Atomic is an enormous cafe with windows on Broadway, downtown's main drag. Coffee is solid, there's a wide range of goods for snacking, and they don't mind if you hang out all day working on a laptop. If you feel chatty, the place is always bustling with people. This is my favorite go to coffee place in downtown on way to work. It has a constantly rotating set of artwork on the walls which is a nice touch. The back room can be reserved in advance for group meetings with a minimum amount of food/drink purchase. The baristas are awesome! The dessert and light food options are great for a mid-day snack. Went here to study with two friends this spring. I was immediately put off by a surly barista who refused to let us use the electrical plugs in a larger, unused room "because someone might reserve that room." Peeved and unable to plug in my Laptop, I ordered a mocha which ended up costing more than five dollars. It was served up with an eye roll and serious attitude. The pretentiousness does not work here because it's a coffee shop, people. I'll be going elsewhere to work and be caffeinated. I don't pay more than Starbucks prices for bad service. read more

When reading the reviews, I was nervous to come here because the last thing I want is crappy service... The server today was very friendly and helpful when I was trying to choose what type of drink I wanted. I was sitting by myself for quite some time and she was pleasant to everyone that came up to the counter. We stopped here for a cup of coffee and a place to chill while we were waiting for my brothers flight to get in at the Fargo airport. I was excited because it looked like a cool independent coffee place. I got a mocha with almond milk and because I'm caffeine sensitive, but I love the taste of coffee. Well unfortunately, this coffee tasted terrible. It tasted burnt and was completely unappetizing. The husband got one of their specialties Atomic Coffee - I think it was three shots of espresso or something. Either way, his was also nasty tasting and also tasted burnt. We were really disappointed as we were both quite tired from a lot of driving/traveling and we had more ahead of us. All we wanted was a good cup of joe, and didn't get one. read more

This is the place to meet friends and colleagues in downtown Fargo. It's smack in the middle of Broadway, with lots of parking out front and back, and an easy walk for those working/living downtown. Hip decor, with exposed brick, industrial ceiling, cool music and lots of seating options. No hippie bean bag seating here. Large menu, with coffee, tea, smoothies and beer along with some sandwiches, wraps and desserts. The drinks aren't stellar and the service is rarely whatI would call "friendly," but I keep coming back because it's clean, open late, has good wi-fi and there's usually an open table to work on. Con: there are often loud teenage girls there at night "studying" and filing the place with squeals and "oh my god!" So I often find myself looking for another coffee place, but no where in Fargo is open as late. read more

Literally just walked out the door of this place. Worst customer service....ever. 1st I ordered a 16oz iced vanilla chai & the guy working just stared at me...then proceeded to charge me for a 20oz. I tipped him & brushed it off. I wasn't going to feed into his attitude problem. Then when I tried connecting to wifi on my laptop & my phone, it kept kicking me off. I asked the guy working if I needed a password...he said no. I explained I was not able to connect on either one of my devices.... Again he just stared at me. He finally responds & tells me he'll be over to help me in a little bit. I waited 25-30 minutes & no help. When he sat down to take a break & eat, I finally accepted I wasn't going to receive any help, so I left. Do yourself a favor a stay away from this place. read more

We were in Fargo to send my brother to bootcamp and as it was early in the morning we needed some caffeine. We were trying to find a coffee shop in the downtown area so that we didn't have to drive far. We stumbled upon Atomic Coffee and it appeared to be a very fun shop to hang out in. That was until we arrived at the counter to order. The lady behind the counter was very condescending and rude to both of my parents and myself. My mother ordered a medium caramel macchiato. The lady "informed" my mother that there is no size on a macchiato because "it is just two shots of espresso in a cup". Not only was the tone not appreciated but it is also not factual information. A macchiato is a single shot of espresso with a small amount of milk or steamed milk froth (microfoam). My mother was becoming visibly embarrassed and very frustrated. I ordered her a caramel latte instead and we moved on. It was now my turn to order. I ordered several shots topped with dark coffee in a medium glass and no room. I knew what I was ordering and I was again "informed" that this may not be my best option as "it is going to be very strong, are you sure?". I may be incorrect and possibly even chastised for this, but as a barista your position is to brew and serve coffee beverages. It is not your position to lecture me on my beverage(s) of choice. While my mother may have been incorrect with her order, the barista clearly knew what she was wanting, was it necessary to embarrass her and then fill her full of inaccurate information? I think not. We purchased our coffee, a scone, and exited the facility. The coffee tasted burnt and the scone was very dry. This establishment received two stars because it was very nice, very clean, and I believe it would be nice to spend time in. Unfortunately, we will be frequenting anywhere else. read more
