We used atlas to remove, stump & grind 16 trees from our property. We paid them around 16k to do the work. They worked fast and slightly repaired the gate they broke. Now it doesn't close properly. The biggest problem is the trees are growing back. I have reached out to them numerous times and they are ignoring me. I rarely leave a review for small business's because I know how hard it is to run a small business since I have worked for one for most of my many years on this planet. We work too hard for our money to pay and now have to pay someone else to fix the problem they refuse to help us with. read more

We had used Atlas for tree work for many years. They were always reliable and competent. A year back they approached us that they were now doing fully licensed landscape maintenance. we decided to move our business to Atlas for this service. Until a few weeks back, all was great. Then suddenly they crew stopped coming. first we just thought maybe some were sick and couldn't make it. After a few weeks and no communications, we called the crew manager as well as the Atlas office and we received no call back or information. we finally heard they disbanded the maintenance crews and fired all of the staff. they NEVER told us, the customer. they NEVER offered us a refund for the services paid for and not provided. what kind of company does this??? PLEASE BE AWARE BEFORE HIRING ATLAS THAT SOMETHING HAS CHANGED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

When you drive down the road and you see the "Atlas" vehicles all over town. Lots and lots of them. I called the company based on the assumption that they might be the best in the business.  Just remember you guys, sometimes, quantity isn't better than quality. Let me be clear that they do not remove the root system. Yes, they will chop your tree down and do a mediocre stump grinding. They actually left a significant amount of my stump later to find out. After what I thought was crystal clear communication that I wanted the uprooting tree level and flush with the side walk. That was explained before I agreed to the estimate. After plenty of reassurance from the company, I agreed to move forward. Fast forward and to make it short and sweet, I live within the city limits of Santa Rosa. The tree was removed because it was uprooting, it destroyed my drip system and began to destroy sidewalk.  The call to Atlas was made, they came out (weeks later) to look at this hearty tree that was later identified as a Bradford Pear. It took 6 weeks to get on the schedule. That was fine, I was patient.  Fast forward to tree removal day, I left a note for Atlas and tied to the tree to clearly communicate again, that I wanted this uprooting tree flush with the sidewalk. That didn't happen after I was reassured it was prior to accepting the estimate. I called, sent photos and they were so kind to send someone out again to look. They never got back to me. A week later I was still trying to follow up. I was able to finally make contact only to be told, "ohhh.... we don't do root systems, you need an excavator" Let me remind you this was a very very small tree, maybe 25 or 30 ft tall at max. It was like a park shrub. Excavator.....LOL. So they pretty much told me I was S.O.L. Fast forward, I went to Friedmans for an axe and went to town on the root system.  3 hours in, I made great progress until I hit stump. The significant amount of stump that was left behind. I was cool up until this point. Now very frustrated, I went inside and called another local guy. 1 guy, he answered his phone immediately, came out for an evaluation the next day, and finished the job in less than an hour a couple of days after that. He said he has to clean up after Atlas all the time and this isn't anything new for him. Long story short, just remember you guys, quantity isn't best over quality. read more

We have contracted with Atlas for years, but recently something has changed. They did not show up to provide a scheduled estimate, and did not answer the phone when I called to ask why. Furthermore, they did not call me back after I left 2 subsequent messages. So, we contracted with one of their competitors (VEMA) who knocked the ball out of the stadium. Goodbye Atlas. I've left prior reviews and I decided to update it . Atlas is excellent at tree service but they are totally incompetent when it comes to "lawn care" . It's mow and blow at best. They butchered my lemon tree . Cut it by 50%. They pruned all the new growth off the sea holly and I could go on but it only gets worse. I have called on numerous occasions and expressed my concerns with no results. Not once has a foreman or anyone from the company been here to oversee what's being done. In this case, not being done. The workers are lazy. They are always late and leave early and often they just hang out in their truck until it's time to leave. They don't pick up any sticks, they just throw them under bushes or blow them into the flower beds. Same with debris on the lawn. Never picked up just mow over them. We pay over $1000. A month for this pathetic excuse for lawn maintenance. I would NEVER recommend them and I can't wait until the contract is over. How about you send someone out to check on your clients and what your crew is doing.????? NOT DOING! Please!!! Stop with your insincere responses. You don't care and we know it. Price is reasonable and we're good to go *Friday - Five man crew on site for removal, about 1-1/2 hours total. Cleaned up the site and prepared for stump grinding. (Quite impressed with the professionalism of these guys. Personable and knew what to do without complications.) *One week later (today) - stump grinding complete and site is clean and ready for new foliage The casual reader may look at the attached images and go "Well, it looks like a small tree. What's so impressive about that?" For sure, it wasn't a messy mulburry or a towering redwood, but these guys came prepared to remove what I needed removing. I called Atlas to remove a redwood tree which had crashed into my cabin. It was still during the rain and wind storm and they were able to take out the entire tree the next day. They cleaned up the cabin after their work and also cleaned debris for the little cabin next to the house. Way above and beyond. All this at a resonable price. Atlas Tree recently completed two projects on our home in Marin County, and their response and work was exceptional. The arborist reviewed the multitude of trees which needed to be pruned and the hillside which needed to be matted and covered with wood chips. We were offered a variety of options from this very knowledgeable individual. An appointment was set up to do the project and the team arrived promptly and reviewed the entire project with us before, during and after to make sure they had accomplished what the arborist set out in his plans. While the crew that came out was great, dealing with Atlas as a whole has been a horrible experience. The first person that came out to assess never got back to us with an estimate. On calling to follow up they told us that the assessor that came out "was no longer with the company." Then, THE SAME THING happened with the second person. That should've been the end of doing business with them, but they promised someone who had been there for awhile would get things going. They estimated that it would take about 6 1/2 days to do 3 trees. It's been 1 month now of delays (which I understand wind, rain, and workers taking time off can't be helped) but it was never communicated to us until they day after the team didn't show up. Thank god our neighbors are patient and kind, they are also letting us use their driveway during this project. Now for the worse part of the experience, on what was supposed to be the last day of tree work no one showed up and the job is unfinished, no one has called to communicate anything whatsoever. We are trying to get ahold of the contact person we've been communicating with and the line has been disconnected. While the team did great tree work while they were here, Atlas has been the worst, most unprofessional company I've ever dealt with. read more

Had new roof was installed on my Santa Rosa home. Storm with high winds and rain arrived next day. Friday, an old 40ft Locust tree in my front yard started to uproot and began leaning. I randomly called Atlas Tree & Landscape at 4:45pm. They immediately sent out a tree expert to check it out. He said the tree was dying and may come down on my beautiful new roof if another wind storm hits. He gave me pretty fair estimate, even though I think it was technically an after-hours emergency service call." The crew arrived the next morning (Saturday) at 7am and cut down the tree at 8am. They ground up the stump, cleaned the site and hauled away the debris. Very impressive. I highly recommend Atlas Tree & Landscape. A++++ read more

I recently had a 90' Redwood Tree removed from my front yard that was approx 12' from the side of my house, that was split & in danger of falling. I can not speak highly enough about Atlas Tree, from the Office Staff to the Field Crew. The Office Staff was prompt in getting back to me with any questions I had. The crew, lead by Sergio, were here for 4 days & were professional, polite & courteous. The site was raked, leaf blown & cleaned up at the end of each day. They were prompt and quick. Did did a wonderful job with removal and cleanup. When we ran into a snag getting the stump removed because of a office error, it was corrected. It went from having to wait 10 more days on top of the 5 days we already waited. The owner paid an employee overtime to come in on his day off and they completed same day. We have huge Cypress trees that needed a solid trim and this crew delivered. Jennifer the estimator was fantastic and very thorough and thoughtful in her assessment of what we needed to have cut. They didn't take so much as the tree would suffer, yet they trimmed it fully and we are really happy with the results. I'm sorry I can't give them no stars. Contacted Atlas today to get a bid on a tree in our neighbor's yard that is causing root damage to our property. They flat out refused to come out for a bid without expressed permission from the tree owner. We explained that we were helping the neighbor to obtain bids and called Atlas specifically on the advice of our attorney. They still refused. What we didn't tell them (and shouldn't have to) is that we planned on helping to pay for removal.  A bid would not require access to the neighbor's property, either. We have had 3 other tree services come out with bids and none of them denied doing so. I would never use Atlas and have informed our attorney that they shouldn't recommend them either.  This is a big job and could have brought them big business. Oh well.  Too bad for them. read more

If you need tree trimming or major landscaping done, Atlas Tree & Landscape is excellent. I got four quotes and went with them because they were recommended by a local Sonoma based company. They are very professional and we have very big trees, their price was on the med/low end. I had four guys and one gal at my house from 8AM until 5PM all working with chainsaws. 4 young men came to cut down dead branches off my bay tree as well as other trees on my property . They even had to deal with a honey bee hive in the bay tree. They were very efficient and brave swinging from limb to limb. They were able to leave me much needed fire wood and cleaned up my property with their blower and brooms. All the while they were cheerful and professional and aware of any bird nests that might be in the tree. Had them trim my tree that was hanging over my roof and also to trim up the tree I asked the person who was trimming the tree if they could trim up some more and he said if I did anymore it would be bad for the tree. We've been using Atlas for over 15 Years for all phases of tree care for the many trees on our property. They are Safe, Fast, Efficient, and Very Reasonably Priced. We highly recommend them. They are BBB A+ rated (but not BBB Accredited). Their staff is very well trained and headed by certified arborists. Their Residential Estimator is Steve Herrfeldt, who is also a certified arborist. Unlike many other tree services they own the equipment they need to do the work without needing to subcontract (in all but the most unusual cases). The have the bucket lift trucks, very large chippers, very large stump grinders, chainsaws, trimmers, and other gear that are needed to do the work. As a result, their quote is complete and there are no "extra" charges for items like stump grinding. Their equipment can also handle very large trees. Their chippers can handle branches and trunks that are much bigger than we thought possible. They were able to chip ALL of our large Deodor Cedar that we removed. Made for nice fragrant chips for our garden. They are also safe. They will use their bucket lift trucks if appropriate and they can get access, otherwise they will safely climb the trees to do the work. They are excellent riggers and will use this skill to lower large trimmed branches instead of risking damage to your home. We've had them remove two trees that were threatening our house and they did a great job. They've also done trimming and shaping of our other trees - keeping them healthy, safe, and attractive. One January when we were overseas for the month a large tree fell in our back yard (fortunately it hit neither our or our neighbors homes, but it did take out the utility service to our home and the fence). We were able to arrange remotely for Atlas to come cut up, take away the tree, and grind the stump. They did a fantastic job with that one too! ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I called Atlas to remove some stumps, a few small trees and trim some of my large trees as well as weed whack. The arborist who gave me the quote was very nice and all seemed well. I assumed this meant that I didn't need to be present (especially since this house is 1.5 hours from my main residence), boy was I wrong. Attempt #1: The day all of the work was scheduled, only tree trimmers showed up. No one knew where the rest of the crew was. They trimmed some trees back (leaving some broken branches) and removed the small ones. That was the highlight of my experience. The stump removers and the weed whackers were nowhere to be found. I called Atlas and asked why no one else showed up. They said it was too hot and they didn't have their schedule lined up so they'd have to come up another day. Attempt #2: A week later the stump removers show up. Neighbors text me to inform me that a bunch of random street corners dudes that don't seem to know what they were doing were randomly grinding things up with a large, scary machine. One of these objects included my plumbing which was completely severed. I received a call from Atlas letting me know the pipe was severed and I should probably fix it - they cut the water. I was getting really mad at this point. My neighbor told me they missed a lot of stumps, did an extremely unprofessional job and no experts showed up to supervise. They also left my driveway and entrance gates wide open when they left. I called up the boss who was extremely defensive and demanded they fix the pipe they cut in half. A landscaping crew was sent out at some point and did this even though they clearly wanted to leave the problem with me. Attempt #3: I drive up to the property to find many stumps left in the ground, half cut or hastily covered in leaves. The weed whacker guy is there whacking the weeds. I point out the half done stumps and ones covered with leaves and he takes out a chain saw trying to cut some down. I then ask him about the dead trees they left all over the property and other debris, he says he'll take care of it (while talking on his cell phone the entire time) and then literally vanishes for the day. My landscaper, who was there with me, said the stump job was so poorly done that many of those trees or bushes will grow back. I receive a bill in my email before the work has been completed. Attempt #4: Stump crew returns with actual employees. This time, learning my lesson, I went up to supervise the job. After waiting an hour past the time they were supposed to show up, I left for lunch. I returned to see them roll up about 1.5 hours late. I walked around the property and pointed out the various stumps and branches and they were removed. I get a call from their secretary challenging me on the time the guys showed up and how that was a supposed "window." I told her not to contact me anymore, the job was done and those sorts of employee politics are not my problem. I gave my husband a check to mail, which he didn't do right away and the company started going ballistic. It's only been 3.5 weeks since they sent the final crew and I've received daily phone calls and emails asking for the money. In short, a job that should have taken 6 hours in one day was drawn out to over 4 days and included hours of my time emailing and calling these people without an apology. I told the guy that we didn't have an appointment and the tree in the back is supposed to be pruned in January. He apologized and said it was the 2nd time that day the homeowner told him that they hadn't received a scheduled time. read more

This was a great experience with Atlas. I had five giant older eucalyptus trees that needed to be removed for fire safety. It was a big job, and Atlas was perfect in every way. Hired Atlas to take care of a tree with Fire Blight. Their cost was several hundred dollars more than others but the attention to detail their arborist provided made us comfortable paying extra knowing they'd do the job right. Tree trimmers came out and were NOT informed to only trim diseased section of tree first and not touch healthy sections. They trimmed 2/3 of the entire tree and per their arborist, that would actually spread the disease. Upon calling the arborist he advised they'd do a treatment of the tree with something that would kill the fire blight. It was a $300 treatment they'd do for free. They offered no discount for the reduced labor that was involved by not specifically trimming all the dead branches first and then doing an overall trim of the healthy parts of the tree. Once I asked for a discount they offered only offered $75. Upon receiving the final bill it was revised to include $140 in permitting fees!! To be fair, they advised of an undetermined fee by the Town of Windsor the day of the estimate, but when we actually received the first estimate it showed fees as "included" on that line item, so it seemed the fees were built into the overall price. While I was able to save $75 on the labor (should have been significantly more) they still increased my bill by $140 for the permitting....and I actually have to ask for documentation of this because I wasn't about to take their word for it at this point. All in all their communication was bad, the price was high, and the service was not worth the premium they charged. Ask lots of questions and get all the details upfront if you use this company...or just go someplace else. read more

I was very pleased with the work by Atlas. It was the second time I hired the company. In preparation for this project I interviewed three companies. I selected Atlas because of my great satisfaction with the company when we hired them initially in 2012 and because of the good and thorough advice Tom gave me about maintaining a birch tree in my back yard. The work was completed perfectly. I couldn't believe how the workers maneuvered the stump grinding machine into very tricky areas and were very skilled at completing that part of the project.
