I've been living at Atlas for about 2 years now and I have to say that things have just gotten progressively worse. It seems that there is always a maintenance issue and that's concerning because Atlas is supposed to be a luxury apartment. The HVAC in my apartment complex did not work for 5 months. The problem occurred in August and got resolved in January. It was very hard going through the hottest time in Oakland without air conditioning and starting winter with no heat. We also have a long going issue of the temperature of the gym not being properly regulated. So it is often too hot and feels like a sauna. Also, currently we have issues with not having hot water due to a boiler isssue. Maintenance has to manually turn on the boiler which is an issue regarding timing. Atlas used to have people host events for us or they used to host events for us but that has since stopped. However, what remains consistent is the amazing concierge staff! Concierge staff such as Richard and the maintenance workers are the best and they're always so helpful and pleasent! I really appreciate them and everything they do for us. They truly make living at Atlas and all it's random mishaps bearable. read more

From the moment you walk in, she greets you like an old friend who's been waiting all day just to make sure your day is brighter. She has that rare combination of professionalism, warmth, and genuine care that can turn even the worst day into something you'll brag about. I scheduled a tour to view an apartment today. I was running late, so I called ahead and the gentleman who answered said it was fine since they did not have any other scheduled person for viewing. A woman at the front desk stopped me and walked with me to the leasing office. Before we could even sit down, she asked how soon I was looking to move in. I explained that I did not have an exact date yet but was likely looking to move within the next few months and was currently just touring apartments. She then told me that if they showed me the apartment today, I would not be eligible for any future specials or promotions. She said that if I came back in a few months, I would not qualify for any deals that might be available at that time and would have to pay full price. I was confused by this because I have toured several other luxury apartment communities and have never been told that simply touring an apartment would disqualify me from future promotions. Additionally, I noticed a check sitting on the desk in plain view where anyone walking into the office could easily see it. I would be uncomfortable knowing that my personal or financial information could be left out in the open like that. Overall, the interaction left me feeling as though the staff member either did not want to conduct the tour or that there may be some commission-related incentive involved. Unfortunately, the experience did not feel welcoming or customer-focused. Because of this interaction, I will not be returning, but I appreciate knowing this upfront. read more

When I say above and beyond, I mean there is no limit to the degree of professional hospitality, service, and care delivered by the Atlas team. Especially, Mala Miller and Milon Minor. I have grown a peace of mind and joy at every greeting I have with Mala and Milon. In between requests and passing gentle smiles, they've made sure that my presence here is appreciated and work hard to make it worth the monthly rate. The rent is high, but worth every nickel. My experience with Milon created a positive outlook on moving which can sometimes be a hectic process. She is thorough in her approach to sales and stayed consistent in communication during my entire process from the tour to move-in. Atlas Apartments - Watching the Sunset from the 41st Floor - Apartments Near Me - Oakland, California

Before getting into details about Atlas, I'd strongly recommend anyone considering living in Oakland to look elsewhere. If you value your safety, Oakland is a city to avoid. The narrative around crime is not at all exaggerated -- the crime rate is truly out of control. My fiancee and I were mugged at gunpoint on the same block as Atlas, just around the corner from the entrance. In the time that we lived in Atlas, there were 4+ murders within a block of the building, and shootings were often a weekly occurrence. In 2023, there was apparently 1 stolen car for every 30 Oakland residents, which is insane. That said, if you absolutely must live in Oakland, Atlas is probably the best place to live. We lived in a tower unit for about 3 years, and it's by far the best apartment building that we've lived in. The tower units are very nice, with high quality finishes, spacious floor plans, and great views. Because the floors are concrete, there's very little noise transfer between floors, so you won't really hear your upstairs neighbors. When we moved out, we got our deposit back reasonably quickly, and we were only charged for general cleaning (no charges for paint and the small holes we drilled to hang things). The amenities are top-notch, with a pool + hot tub and top floor gym (amazing panoramic views) that's better equipped than any other apartment gym (2 power racks!), and maybe better than many actual gyms. The package locker system works well, and we never had a lost/stolen package. Security within the building is pretty good, with keycard access required for each floor and typically always someone manning the front desk. The concierge team is helpful, and the building has recently hired some more security guards, which at least gives an impression of security. Maintenance requests are taken care of pretty quickly, generally within a day or two. The Atlas app/forum is also pretty convenient, and the building recently switched to using Bilt for payment, which is nice if you're into the points game. That said, Atlas isn't perfect, so there are things that are pretty bad too. We didn't have a car, but we heard that the parking situation was terrible, with broken gates, poor security, and frequent car thefts / break-ins. We also didn't have any pets, but the one time we decided to check out the dog park, it smelled truly disgusting. Depending on where your unit is, you might sometimes get the smell of weed floating in from the ventilation system, usually from outside, but sometimes from shitty neighbors. If you have problems with bad neighbors (e.g., smoking, loud music, etc), Atlas management does a pretty poor job of solving those problems. You'd think it would be in their interest to evict smokers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. In general though, Atlas is almost certainly the best building you'll find in Oakland, and it's a real shame that it's not located in a better city, where it would really shine. If you have to live in Oakland, you should live at Atlas, but Oakland sucks, so you'd really be better off looking elsewhere. read more

Lived here since 2021. Each year has gotten progressively worst, believe me when I say - AVOID this building like the plague. Management is a cancer that you will find no solace in. They are rude people that work here, save yourself the headache and find a building that respects its tenants. It's unfortunate what Atlas has become, used to be top tier. This location is selling city views for a charge. Nothing in your apartment validates this high priced rental rate. Their staff has the nerve to judge someone based on their skin color and not there interactive experience. No one should live in a community that gives negative energy. read more

I toured several communities looking for a home I love, and when I toured Atlas I ended up submitting my application right after the tour in their leasing office! Rachel, the leasing agent who toured me, was amazing! so friendly and welcoming and I had fun touring with her, I particularly appreciated her honesty and answering all the questions I had in mind. I moved in a few days ago and I'm super excited! so far everything has been perfect, concierge are helpful and friendly, move-in was smooth and I love my new home! read more

Since my last update I have even more positive things to say about Atlas. All the amenities have finished and opened to residents and they are ABSOLUTELY stunning. I have never seen another apartment (IRL or online) that cares this much about design in literally every single detail. AMENITIES: Their amenity spaces are out of control - pool and hot tub with plentyyyy of chairs and lounge seating; BBQ grill area, fire pits; gigantic coworking space / lounge perfect for all of us remote workers; several spaces on the 4th and 41st floor to host friends/family such as: private dining space (on the 41st floor), game room (with awesome game board selections, pool and shuffle board - also great space to watch any games/events - on 41st floor) and beautiful cocktail lounge (41st floor) that makes you feel like you're at the most bougie restaurant / bar ever. I can't even describe the view up there - you have to see it to believe it. If the gym is more your thing, well well well! Do they have a gym alright. Believe me, this is not your average apartment gym - hell, Atlas's gym is better than most gyms in the city. Basically have 360 views of Oakland and San Francisco and plenty of equipment options. I've never been overwhelmed by an apartment gym with the amount of options, but I have literal option paralysis. If the gym isn't enough, they even have a separate cycle and yoga studio. Whaaaaaat??? OH - and this is on top of their Swyft outdoor boot camp and yoga classes which take place 3x a week. CULTURE: There's something about Atlas that brings everyone together - the staff are more like friends, and your neighbors are more like family. Truly I've never lived in such a social apartment complex (I've lived in like 10 different apartment buildings) - I met a ton of neighbors through the workout classes, as well as the several apartment events Atlas and Flamingo (our apt app) have hosted (virtually and now starting to be in person). I think a lot of the residents have the same experience as many of us hang out with other residents fairly frequently it seems. EVENTS: Just living here gets us perks from the neighborhood - we often have free cocktail events supplied by local businesses, just yesterday we had a new bar down the street have a soft opening exclusively for Atlas residents where we had dinner provided and an open bar (seriously), there's always an event where lunch, breakfast, dinner is provided. (Atlas has really worked to support local businesses that have struggled during the pandemic, which also makes me feel even better about living here.) We also have a fair share of non-food events like Calligraphy 101, virtual wine and painting classes, among several others. There's constantly something going on here so you'll never get bored. Living here is like living at a resort - not even exaggerating. The pandemic sucked, but Atlas made it so much more bearable. It's not even worth looking at other apartments in my opinion, just move here already! read more

Lived here for 1.5 years. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: - The gym was the best in the area. We checked other locations during our search and nothing compared. - amenties were top notch, 41st floor was always amazing and the building was kept clean. The cleaning staff are wonderful and the best I've seen. - Some of the conciege staff are top notch, not all. But the ones that are helpful are extremely helpful and nice. - maintenace staff are the best, they are swift to get to your fix when you put in a ticket. - Armed security around the building keep the homeless and crazies from getting in, most of the time. - BART only a block away, cozy coffee shops nearby, good food nearby. Cons: - For what you pay, Atlas can be very unresponsive to needs of the tenets. - random fees on your bill. If you plan to put anything on autopay, be wary. Fees change and they've put random $15 fees for rental insurance (which we had) after being here for a few months - parking is not owned by Atlas so they always defer instead of working with douglas to provide a seamless experience. Parking is a mess and there's always issues. - management changed about 3-4 times in the 1.5 years I've been here. Which caused confusion and horror stories. - We got charged a prorated fee because we had to move on January 1st, paying for a day when we'll be out by noon. Never had that experience in previous apartment complexes. Greed and money grabbing. - NOISEY AREA. Not an Atlas problem, but an downtown Oakland problem. If you wre sensitive to noise. Beware. - My partner almost got followed into the building. Lucky for our dog which kept the person away, this is common in the area. Ask your questions, read your lease thoroughly, don't fall for the beauty of the building. Pay close attention as the leasing agents can be quite tricky (read: Salesy). We're leaving and have been waiting for the lease to expire for months. Unfortunate since it is a nice area and the apartment isn't so bad. Good luck. read more

This is by far the best building I've ever lived, but I regret moving here. It's no fault of Atlas, but this area doesn't feel safe . In the year I've lived here 4 people have been killed on this street and I've seen two dead bodies. Can hear gun shots more weekends than not. Unfortunately this area/city is going through a tough moment with violence. I know a few people that paid back their free months rent to cancel their lease. Positives: I can't say a bad thing about this building itself. The amenities and staff are top quality. I love having friends over and hosting on the rooftop using the grills and pizza oven. The monthly events are a great touch as well. Negatives: mostly the violence around the area as I mentioned. Also a few people including myself had some bad smells from the toilet/sink. I think it's a building issue since we've had maintenance over multiple times but the smell still returns. read more

This is a review mostly about the move-out process. I lived in Atlas for 1.5 years, and overall, it was a decent experience, definitely not without its issues. I didn't use many of the amenities except for the gym (which was awesome) so I can't comment on those, so I'll stick mostly to my experiences with the leasing office and the leasing company, Greystar. I knew things were off when I got an email from the assistant manager of Atlas, asking me to pay additional rent for July 1st (My lease ended at the end of June.) I told him that no, I had completed my lease per the terms, and I am not paying for one more day. Like seriously, how greedy do you have to be to charge for one more day, instead of just letting it go? Getting my deposit has been a nightmare. I've been e-mailing them since July with no response whatsoever, constantly calling them to no avail, and to add insult to injury, they did not even put my new mailing address on the refund! I had made sure to let them know my new address but they couldn't even be bothered to update that. Luckily I had set up mail forwarding so I got the refund eventually (after almost 2 months), but then it was only like a quarter of what I initially paid, and they didn't even bother to list what deductions they took out and why. It was just an empty letter with a check. Now I'm trying to find out what exactly they took off from the check, but again, they don't answer phone calls, and when they do, they promise they'll call me back but never follow up. Super frustrating experience to say the least. Asking for your deposit back is like kryptonite to these people. read more

Poor management and communication, disrespectful and irresponsive leasing manager. A complete waste of time If you are considering renting from Atlas, think carefully. This is not a welcoming community. From the start of my application, I received wrong information, poor communication, and no compensation for the mistake of the staff. The leasing manager mentioned nothing about the different finish style of the unit I'm renting and let me assume that the unit would look the same as the ones we toured. The unit turned out to have no gas stove and completely different finish style and there was no compensation. After my application, I tried to get the process to move. However, I got no response for my emails, no call back for hundreds of my calls that were answered by "we will call you back later". The leasing office is irresponsive and disrespectful. It has been two months since my application and I still didn't get my lease. It has been two weeks since the manager promised to email me the lease and I got nothing and no response to my email asking what's going on. I don't feel welcomed by this community and I am deeply offended by being completely ignored. I don't know whether I am the only one that was treated this way. But I am surely offended and would never want to live in this community anymore. And now I am still in the process of fighting for the refund of my deposit and withdraw my application. read more

TLDR: You won't regret moving to this beautiful community. It's not too good to be true, it's literally just the perfect place to live. Atlas is SUCH wonderful place to live. I had the pleasure of working with Addison, who was incredible during the whole process of finding the right unit. Because of COVID and this being my first apartment, I had a TON of questions and took some time to tour (which he graciously let me do more than once because I was indecisive) and eventually signed the lease. He was SO patient and helpful the whole time, answering any questions I had, and I was eventually comfortable enough to make the decision to move here. Even when I signed the lease and had more questions about next steps, he was always ready to help and I really appreciated that. When I moved in about a month ago, I was given my keys and upon entering my unit was greeted by a really lovely welcome gift. The quality of the units are fantastic: the floors, cabinets, appliances. Everything! I had a bit of an ant problem when I moved in, not a trail but more like a few here and there (common with new construction) but the maintenance team was incredibly quick to add some caulking in the bathroom for me and schedule pest control! I haven't had any problems since. What's really nice too, though I haven't used them yet, is the amenities. You definitely get what you pay for in a community like this. The concierge service, the work rooms, community events (COVID friendly), the gym space that we will soon have, etc. Other random things I love: - The windows, especially great when it's raining - The bathroom tub is the most luxurious thing I've ever seen lol - Front load washer and dryer -Super close to BART, great location for food too - Deep kitchen sink + pullout sprayer - The heater gets really hot - Staff is literally always friendly (I.E there have been times that I'm carrying a million groceries and one of the concierge will open the door for me and press my floor in the elevator which I think is really kind) + it doesn't end once you've signed the lease like other places that get your money and kind of drop the ball - There's an app for the building where you can pay your rent, RSVP for events, check out local events in the area, etc If you're thinking about this place, go for it! I can honestly say that I made a great decision moving here. read more

Since I have moved here last June, I have experienced racial profiling personally, from staff and other guests. My guests (brothers, cousin, trainer) have also been racially aggressed by the front desk staff, and on-site security. I have made management aware several times and the problem still continues. I'm writing this review in response to a situation which occurred this morning. This is an email I sent to the management staff. Simply put, if you are Black, do not consider moving here as a first choice. ************* Hello -  This is a formal request to rewatch the video from this morning. My trainer came to visit me this morning and experienced racial profiling. The security guard was his first point of contact, and motioned no to him upon arrival. The person did not ask, "how may I help you", they "motioned no".  The front desk clerk was on a break by the couches and they also made my guest feel less than adequate by requesting he call me on his phone, rather than calling me. The phone was working becasue I called down moments later and spoke to Christian. I will be down at noon today, and would like to see the video. As you know, I have had other guests who have complained about this. It is not the first time at all whatsoever. Atlas needs to figure out why Black people, and Black men in particular - feel as though they are being treated differently when they come here. Thank you! read more

If you can get past the $225 parking over 3k 1 br 1 bath and penthouse resident "T" who will throw stuff off her balcony into the dog park it's still overpriced. Management won't do anything. If you try to move out they will refuse to give a rent verification "as per company policy". read more

My girlfriend and I moved into Atlas with our dog in August of 2020, and we've been here and have seen the community grow from maybe 50 people to thousands of people. During COVID, balancing safe protocols while providing residents with community events and amenities is difficult, but I thought the staff handled this very well and still gave us a great place to call home, despite the challenges. We've lived in a few different apartment complexes across the Bay Area and Atlas has definitely been our favorite. It's pricey, but IMO you get what you pay for. Nowhere else did we actually utilize the amenities at the complex, and at no other apartment complex have we met people that we can call friends. I've chatted with many people about this before - the amenities and the community here were priceless, especially during shelter in place. First fridays in Oakland weren't happening during SIP, but Atlas made an effort to host events (that people actually go to!) and give us a taste of some of the local cuisine. Regarding the complex itself, we've had small issues come up, but nothing that wasn't fixable. Having lived in different complexes, we're very aware of what to expect from a large complexes; but in our experience, Atlas has provided much more than we thought it would. For the same price, we lived in a small 1 bedroom in SF that had very little amenities. Make no mistake; Atlas isn't without flaws or issues - but no place is. All we can ask for is that the staff respond to its residents, address issues, and find ways to keep improving. We think the staff do just that. They're super friendly, helpful, and try their best. And In terms of the actual units and quality of the structure/amenities - it's honestly hard to beat. Spaces are cleaned often and there's tons of different areas to hang out in. read more

I feel like I'm living at the W hotel ( that's also how my friends describe it). This building is pure luxury, amenities ( rooftop on the 41st floor, pool/hot tub, co-working area with conference rooms etc.) are top notch and everything about the building from the wall art to the rugs to the piano in the lobby was well thought through and beautifully designed. I also love that they're truly trying to create a community by hosting multiple events like wine and cheese tasting, first Fridays with a free cocktail, free workout classes etc. Additionally, Concierge is super friendly and efficient and willing to help with almost anything ( including helping me take heavy groceries out of my car) The downside: it's in the heart of downtown and you hear every single thing outside including the crosswalk but i've gotten used to it. Plus there are no major grocery stories close by. But I'll deal with a little noise and walk 20 mins to the grocery story /get groceries delivered for all of this luxury. Best building I've lived in the bay, highly recommend. read more

My wife and I moved to Atlas almost a year ago now, and it's my favorite place I've ever lived - by far. I'll break down this review into the following buckets so I don't miss anything: the building, the culture, and the neighborhood. I'm an architect, so design is important to me. The design of this building is incredible. From the custom plaster mural in the lobby, to the brilliant wood detailing throughout, to the custom booth seating in the amenities, this place has achieved a level of finish that almost never survives the budget discussions of large projects. The gym, sunset lounge, and other amenities are next level. Our apartment overlooks the courtyard - it's always quiet when I'm trying to sleep. Our dog loves the dog park because she gets to run around with all her friends over the lunch break. The culture here has made shelter in place so much more comfortable. This is the only building where I've actually made friends with my neighbors. The staff creates lots of opportunities to strengthen community - through frequent fun events (in person and distanced or virtual). They also have free exercise classes in the courtyard, so we've made a bunch of friends just by showing up to those. The staff knows everyone by name and is super attentive if there are any issues. Shoutout to Roosevelt, Joseph, Richard, India and the rest of the team - you guys are great. I moved to downtown Oakland from SF, and I've been really enjoying the neighborhood here. There are so many different types of restaurants, shops and galleries within walking distance. I love being close to Chinatown too for all of the delicious food, boba, etc. Not to mention we're right across from the best burrito joint in the Bay Area - Maya Halal. Lake Merritt was a blessing this last year as I tried to stay in shape during SIP. Overall - couldn't recommend this place strongly enough. read more

This is by and large the nicest apartment community you can choose in the Oakland/Emeryville/Berkeley area. I can attest to the fact that my bf and I toured and researched over ten "luxury apartment communities." (Allegedly.) Pros: - Staff are incredible. Each person I have interacted with have been professional, helpful, and kind. They genuinely know what they are doing and talking about. Big shout out to Joseph who was our primary point person and handled everything from tours to endless questions and drop-ins with unbelievable patience, charisma, honesty, and friendly professionalism. - Beautifully curated amenity spaces. The photos online genuinely reflect the actual spaces. Top floor gym with city views... I have no excuse not to get in shape. - There are tons of different floor plans to choose from. Nice finishes and appliances. - Lots of natural light thanks to the FLOOR TO CEILING windows. Enough said on that. And a balcony on a handful of floor plans. Say no more. - Pet friendly with an actual designated space to relieve your dog. - The people living in the building are friendly and it feels like a true community. - They have on-site parking available for up to 2 cars per unit which is RARE. - Secure individual package lockers AND for larger items the 24 hour front desk ensure your package is safely housed and coordinates with you on when you can pick up your package. - It's clean and public spaces are well maintained. Cons: - It's not cheap. Not gonna sugarcoat it. However, if you're genuinely looking for a luxury apartment community this is the only spot in the East Bay within a reasonable distance from SF that fully meets the criteria. So for my bf and I, it was worth the higher price tag. All in all, this checked off all of our non-negotiable apartment needs and then some. read more

I came here to drop some thing off, and the lady that was at the front counter was the most rudest person I've encountered I walked up to the counter and noticed she was on her laptop typing somethings, so I quietly waited then out of nowhere she gives me a super sassy Jester, and says, so what do you want or you gonna stand there or ask me something! Where do I even begin? We have only been here at The Atlas for about two months and our experience has been surprisingly AMAZING. We had been enduring most of 2020 at this other 'luxury" apartment complex that did not live up to its expectations. So when we came to The Atlas, we were very skeptical and had very low expectations. But then here comes Joseph, and he blew us away. Not with just everything that The Atlas building had to offer but the wonderful service that came along with it. The building is exactly what you would imagine luxury living to be. All the amenities here are very well thought out and that includes the gym, which at most places always feels like an afterthought. Every little detail of the building is always kept clean, from the dog park, to the parking garage to the little 5 pound dumbbell in the gym. The staff here at The Atlas has been nothing but exceptional. Joseph and the rest of the leasing staff continues to be friendly and helpful. The entire concierge staff (Roosevelt, Anthony, Richard and so many more), maintenance and housekeeping, all play such a huge part in making your day-to-day life so much better. I have lived in many places the last several years and The Atlas has by far been the best experience. So I would definitely recommend The Atlas as your next place of living. read more

I'm absolutely loving living here, not just because it's a gorgeous building, not just because of the sick views from my apartment, not just because of the friendly/accommodating staff, not just because of the Instagram-worthy lobby, not just because of the location to so many great Oakland restaurants, and not just because of the top tier amenities. I've lived here now for 5 months and it's truly like a dream living here- I pinch myself every day I come home.
