Nice games and comics store in Ocean View. It's fairly large and I'm pretty sure there's a gamming section upstairs. I used to be located near Wards Corner in an upstairs location, but that entire half block was transformed into the likes of strip mall. I used to frequent it looking for bargain CCG boxes. The current store initially had a lot of used Avalon Hill games, but I haven't run across any lately. I has some used games but it mostly (from what I see) showcases MtG, iconic card and board games and game figures. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. it's located across the street from the large parking lot of the shopping center, so parking is always available if you can't nab one on the street on front of the store. read more

Absolutely a masterclass in how to run a hobby shop. Great variety of products and knowledge, incredibly helpful and communicative staff who clearly all have a passion for the business. They were very engaged and understanding with my eight year old who is often overwhelmed in social settings and struggles. Even gave him a quarter to replace the candy he dropped. What is usually a stressful endeavor with the kids was delightful. Cannot recommend this shop enough, and I even walked out with recommendations for other similar places in the area. Really cool shop! My first time there I was not overwhelmed as I had initially thought I would be with endless comics and figures surrounding me. The staff member politely greeted me as I walked in and asked for any assistance. Called up on Saturday and spoke with a nice lady that checked on prices for membership and product for me. Told me that you have to be a gold member to preorder secret lair right now and that I could come in and do that the next day (as I was planing on spending hundreds on product to become a gold member on top of buying the secret lair). All sounded good! Then I drive 30 minutes to the store the next day walk up and the guy has me call in (that's understandable with the current state of things). After calling he tells me it is an email list to become eligible for the secret lair thing now and that I can't become a member until they reopen to the public.. he said that it's even on their Facebook and to check the details there. I did it was posted late last night. So now after driving 30 minutes to get there I get to hop back in my car empty handed and with no hope of getting the product I was told yesterday I would be eligible to sign up for contrary to what I had been told less than 24 hours before. Very disappointed. It is unprofessional and certainly didn't seem like they wanted a new customer. I know I don't spend as much as many people but I spend at least a thousand a month at my local game stores so I guess the hunt continues for a new local shop. On top of that I play competitively and regularly. And often form groupie of people to come and play at my local stores. Complete waste of time read more

Go to Good Guys MTG or Comic Kings instead. Atlantis deleted my review from their Facebook page. It was based on facts and not opinions of how the manager operates business in a military town where his prime income is made off military members. I suggested he give a small discount one that could definitely still make him money and I told him it's been the number one shop I go to and shop at id like to feel some what appreciated as a customer. Terrible idea and he was not supportive or receptive of any advice I was portraying to him as a customer and a service member. Comic kings is one of the best shops in the area and Good Guys Mtg. Go there instead of going here because they are the most reasonable with pricing on singles and they show the most appreciation towards their customers. Store is slightly bigger than the Trilogy Comics which is a couple of blocks down. Though these guys have a lot less comics. They're more focused on gaming, cards and other hobbies. They have a separate room with tables and soda machines to accommodate the card games that happen on a weekly basis. Just like Trilogy comics, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. They only have a few back issue comics and nothing much on the high end and expensive comics. Parking is located behind the building and there is plenty of space. read more

I ran Pathfinder Society for years at this location. This store does everything they can to support gamers. Pathfinder Society and the Tidewater Area Gaming Society use this store as a primary locations due to friendly staff, size of space, and the amount of product available in the store. This store has everything you can think of. The location is cool since the beach is up the block. I haven't met all the employees but Montel is always helpful and full of useful information. He referred me to a few books that I normally don't read and I was satisfied. The comic selection in the back is always fun to look through. What makes this store so unique for our area is the large table top area upstairs. Haven't played MTG in the longest but I wouldn't mind playing here. Best stocked role playing, tabletop, and board game store on the Norfolk side of the HRBT. They actively carry a wide range of products from Pathfinder, to Legend of the Five Rings, to Shadowrun, to Magic the Gathering, to Warhammer, to boxes of Fantasy Flight Games... the list goes on and on. If they don't carry something in stock (because no place can carry everything), the crew will special order it. I also notice the store supports Kickstarter projects that are related to RPG's, miniatures, and card games. Very cool to know they back the indie community. The main bread and butter seems to be games in general, but they offer anime knickknacks and a small selection of popular comic books. As a brick and mortar store, AG&C hosts RPG campaigns and card tournaments on a regular basis. These events are typically hosted on the second floor, which helps isolate the noise and crowds from the first floor. Clerks working here are very friendly, taking great care to greet anyone who enters the building, and can prove themselves to be avid gamers if asked. read more

Best gaming store in Norfolk. Widest selection of tabletop war games, board games, and card games. They have all major current issues of comics and support local artists as well. The selection of fan paraphernalia and accessories is also extensive. The store has a fresh feel to it meaning that older games not currently in print and a large selection of back issue comics don't exist although the dingy mildew of yesteryear's geekdom (which my wife does not appreciate and is prevalent in many similar stores in the area) also does not exist which makes it easier to shop with my wife. She also can buy gifts without being creeped out by a crypt keeper staff pouring through antique Heavy Metal mags. The upstairs has a wide open area with plenty of tables for gaming. There is terrain and opened board games free to use and sample. There used to be a semi snack bar but has been removed, which I think could do quite well as a full-time service since many a gaming group and after school pokemon battle often frequent. Having an employee upstairs could also be good to regulate behavior since it is currently unsupervised. Overall location is fantastic and so is the shopping experience. read more

I've been going to Atlantis for the past 4 years to play Magic: The Gathering Every Friday and occasionally on Saturday and/or Sunday. I've fallen in love with the store, mainly because of the Amazing Staff that I have befriended over the years. Preston, Bailey, and Anna are my closest friends who work there, and they make sure every person is accommodated and taken care of. I've only been to the store for Magic purposes and to buy board games. Their board game prices are high, but their magic card selection is vast and all of their prices are from TCG Player. Normal Expansion sealed products as well as KMC sleeves are high in price, but the rest of their non-card magic selection is competitive in price. They run weekly FNM, and the turnout is anywhere from 10-20 players usually, but the number fluctuates from set to set (during Origins, many new players played, resulting in each FNM having more than 30 players). Their commander events are well attended, and there are always people willing to trade and play casually/competitively (mainly standard and Commander, and some modern). The atmosphere is great, with a variety of games being played on Friday and during the weekend. Overall, Atlantis is a prime spot to play Magic or to just hang out with friends and play whatever you want (due to their large game space). read more

There are three things to note in a review of this business. First off their selection of board games is very limited. I have seen game shops just as small with games stacked floor to ceiling. The layout of this shop limits their shelf space and therefore the variety of board games the have. Second is that despite their limited inventory they are very friendly. The staff will go out of their way to ask if they an help you. If they don't have something they will try to find it and get it for you. So keep up the friendly customer service Lastly is the pricing. Their prices are pretty competitive for a brick and mortar store. Their price points are only slightly higher than Amazon on a lot of stuff. If they have something you're not willing to wait on in the mail and they have it, get it from them. I'd shop here for something I must have right away. However I don't expect they'll have it given their limited inventory. read more

This is my go to place for playing table top, they support the geek in you from Space Marines to Sorcerers. There is lots of opportunity to play a game you like upstairs for a low price, to support the shop. I browsed a huge selection of Magic the Gathering, D&D books, dice, Pathfinder figures, obscure board games, playmats, and tons of other things. Store is clean and orderly; the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the merchandise. Soooo being from the area I remember Gaming HQ being here, so it was a bit of "shock" to see Atlantis there when I got back to the area in 2010. But upon going in, I gotta say that I was impressed. The staff is awesome and the store has a little bit of everything, from comics, games, and the supplies to go with it. They also sell single Heroclix (which believe it or not, not alot of stores do). Easily the best gaming store in the area. They have a ton of card and board games, as well as most any RPG you might be looking for, and an entire wall devoted to miniatures wargames. They have a large selection of used games, which can be pretty cool to look through as well. On top of all that, they have a huge space upstairs where you can go to play games, assuming they don't have some sort of event taking place. All of this does overshadow their comics a bit, if I want a really good comic store I'm more inclined to go over to Local Heroes in Ghent instead. Still, given the state of most of the other gaming stores in the area for years now, this store is amazing. read more

I was extremely pleased when Atlantis moved from the Wards Corner location to Oceanview. It is a much classier area and the new facility is so much nicer. The staff is always great. If they aren't swamped with other customers they are happy to chat about the latest in gaming or sci fi or whatever. I haven't gamed at the upstairs tables, but this is a great place to find almost any game I am interested in. They even have a selection of used out of print wargames (Avalon Hill, SPI, etc.) which is where my real interest lies. Prices are pretty much standard MSRP, so it is possible to get better prices from some online purveyors. But for the joy of actually holding the game in your hand before you buy, and talking tos omeone who has experience with the games they sell, Atlantis can't be beat. read more

The store owner here gouges people and rips them off. His personal attitude aside, the store has a modest selection of products and is slightly more tolerable than most. They at least keep the bathrooms stocked with essential supplies and the staff are ok people. Kevin Ming I will give personal credit to, he was one of the best employees this place ever had. He kept it real, and wasn't a jerk to customers. The comic selection is pretty decent, and they have occasional sales which makes them more tolerable than other shops I've been to in the area. I still wouldn't recommend the place though, a few bright spots in a dingy cave doesn't make up for the flaws of the shop, namely rude employees, and card players that leave the place in shambles after playing games. The store owner lets dci violations slide far too often instead of writing up responsible parties for the problems they cause. read more
