I was ready for a new book to read after finishing the latest title by my favorite author on my…read morelunch break. With a couple of Barnes & Noble gift cards in my wallet, I couldn't wait to pay a visit to the Greenbrier store after work. I really enjoy the peace I find while perusing the amazing book selection and variety of fun gifts at this bookstore. It's quiet, clean, and well organized. It's a happy place. After 2 leisurely hours, I found a new author, and I'm anxious to start her first book. Another reason I was anxious for 'my time' to shop for a new book at B&N is their 'Hot Coffee, Hot Book, Cafe Special Offer' deal! With the purchase of any cafe item, you can purchase a featured book for $5. This offer has limited quantities, and the book cover is so pretty and pink! It's titled 'The Vanishing Cherry Blossom Bookshop' by Takuya Asakura. The friendly cafe server said that the $5 cafe book offer for this book title ends soon, but another book will be coming. She believed their location has the offer every 2 months, but other locations might be every month. No worry, I'm hooked and I'll keep an eye out! So, I see another great cafe deal on select bakery items, BOGO 50% off. I chose a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Cookie and an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie to go. After my new book purchase and cafe purchases, my first text to my adult children was a reminder that Mother's Day is coming up and that I'd love gift cards to Barnes & Noble! I received a reply with a thumbs up!

I stopped into 2nd & Charles specifically because I was looking for used books. The store itself is…read morehuge and has a really large selection, but I realized pretty quickly that it wasn't quite the used-book-shopping experience I was looking for. The new and used books are all mixed together on the shelves. There isn't a separate used section or an obvious way to tell which books are used until you actually pull one off the shelf and look at the price sticker. Some of the used books are in excellent condition, which is great, but you definitely have to dig around to find them among all the new books. I actually asked an employee at the front if there was a particular section where I could find the used books. He basically said, "Nope, they're all mixed in," and showed me what the sticker looks like so I'd know how to identify them. Personally, I didn't love that setup. Part of the fun of going to a used bookstore for me is knowing that I'm browsing used books and seeing what treasures I can find. Here, it felt more like shopping at a regular bookstore and occasionally discovering that a particular copy happened to be used. I would much rather have the used books separated, or at least have the store primarily consist of used books with a smaller selection of new ones. That said, if you're equally interested in new AND used books, this could actually be a great place for you because the selection is massive. They also have a trade-in/consignment-type setup where people can bring in their old books. I saw several people doing that while I was there, although I didn't personally go through the process, so I can't speak to how it works or what they offer in return. Overall, there's absolutely no shortage of books here. It just wasn't quite the used bookstore experience I was hoping for. If you enjoy digging through a huge selection and don't mind checking individual books to see whether they're new or used, you'll probably have a much better time with the setup than I did.

However if your not a customer of the chain you may be surprised to learn they have much more than pencils and pens and I do love a great writing utensil. The location is in Landstown Commons on the North side by Walgreens close to the entrance. You will never have to worry about parking as there is an abundance. I found the lot and walk up clear of debris. Upon walking in no initial greeting, but the checkout area is not positioned to lend itself to see customers walking in. No staff was up front. The store presented well and was attractive in a sexy office supply type of way. Major Office Max badging was hung from the ceiling in the rear on a circular type of sign. Everything was clean. My objective was to pick up a three hole punch after mine when kaput. I had an older model off brand and was anxious to see what was offered. To my surprise they offered over a half dozen types from 5 sheets to 50. Both manual and electric with prices ranging from $20+ to $50+. The main brand offered was Swingline which is the best! I picked up a midline to punch 20. I perused the store to kill some time and as I mentioned before I love office supplies anyway. The furniture is in the rear and they have a really good supply of chairs that range from basic to high end. The print shop is up front. As I continued my walk around I was reminded the depth of inventory that Office Max carries. From candy, to cleaning supplies to a few OTC pharmacy needs like Tylenol. Up front at checkout they even have gift cards. I was approached by two staff on the floor at different times. An older lady was particularly friendly and we made small talk. This elevated my review one full star. I see the most recent reviews are very positive. When you see and hear customer service you know it and thank you! My checkout was good and my rewards card applied. The young lady clerk was ok, professional and that's all good. It's always nice for me to hear "did you find everything" which I did not. My credit card transaction was processed without a hitch. I did notice the front of the counter laminate was damaged with a large crack. This store is a solid option for office supply loving customers. I suspect it's less known than Town Center which has a great flow. On my visit it was not busy mid day. I suspect it's because they do not offer road frontage as the store is not new. If your looking for an easy in and out office supply run hit them up.
