I came into this store as a beginner in the hobby and was told that I could immediately put fish in my new tank after adding stress coat + to the water. A week later 2 of my fish had died and the others were noticeably stressed. I should have done more research on my own going into this but I quickly learned that it's necessary to cycle a tank before adding fish into it and this was likely the cause of my fish dying. (Also the bottle of stress coat + that I was sold was expired by a couple months) It seems like these people either don't know what they're doing or intentionally gave me bad information so that I would buy from their store. I came to Atlantis Fish Shoppe for the little miniature African frogs. I world stop in every so often to check if they were in yet. Finally they got some in stock. I bought large glass bowls with a small opening from Home Depot. They come with a plant in it and cork to go around the stem off the plant. I purchased the frogs and a beta fish from Atlantis. They were so healthy and lively. I have one of these little aquariums to my doctors office and my pharmacy (Value Center Pharmacy at 14 mile and Campbell rd) the pharmacist loved it and had it on display on his counter. All the patients at the pharmacy and the doctors office comment and love them! The owner of Atlantis is very informative and helpful. You might miss this store when you drive by because it's set back in the shopping center, but it's worth stopping for. The owner is always friendly and answers all questions. They fish selection is good and sometimes they have rare to find fishes! You can even haggle the prices. Wish they offered more hardware or tank solutions. I thought I'd give this store a shot, and at first glance I thought they had a great selection. Upon closer inspection nearly every tank had algae (multiple types), and many had dead fish. There were only 2 high schoolers there that couldn't answer any of my questions. I should have followed my gut, but instead I had a moment where I wanted to save some of the more gorgeous fish and bring them home. Unfortunately​ 6 hours after quarantine and introducing them to my 55 gallon tank, I noticed an ich bloom on the new fish. Days later and it has now spread to all the fish in my tank. Wow. Last week I went in here to get some supplies for my saltwater tank and I had the BEST experience. I came in here and bought a red tail catfish and an 3 inch African cichlid. I have now lost that African cichlid plus one and my catfish is covered. They sold me fish infected with ich. I lost a 75$ 6inch African cichlid because of this. Mark your infected fish not for sale like all the rest of the fish shops do. Bought two,lost two. Not a good deal to me nor a good first impression. I will not be coming back here. read more

I've been coming here for a little over a year now since I got back into marine aquariums (and am somewhat new to reef keeping) and have to say I am quite satisfied with my experiences overall. I have been in many shops on the east side over the years- where there seem to have been a lot more of them- and one thing I really like about this place is not only is the staff knowledgeable and friendly, but I've never been stuck waiting here very long. I've been in shops where I have had to wait 15-30 minutes with a question or ask them to retrieve live stock while they were helping other customers, and that just really never seems to happen here for whatever the reason. While I am fairly knowledgeable with the mechanics of maintaining a marine habitat, I am bad with names of corals, and sometimes resort to trying to physically describe my livestock when asking questions to establish what it is I already own, which I am sure must be annoying. I've never been made to feel stupid or foolish, and I always get an honest effort from them to provide me with an answer. Another thing I like that I discovered through making small talk with the staff, is that most of them have other jobs and are simply hobbyists taking a part-time job because they truly enjoy the activity and like helping people. I don't price shop them much, but the prices on what they have here can vary depending on specials (obviously) but also in terms of what they are looking to move out. So don't be too disappointed if the coral you bought there is 10-20 bucks cheaper than what you paid a month ago for a similar coral, probably because they now have 5 of them now. You might be able find cheaper, but I don't think they are unnecessarily expensive if at all. Even if they were a bit more, this is a local business that's worth supporting. As others have noted, they really don't have a lot of tanks for sell or tons of accessories but are good about carrying the most common things. If you're looking to browse hardware, this is generally not your place. They simply don't have the room. And now that I think about it, none of the shops I used to go were doing as much of that anymore, they probably can't compete with online pricing or the chains well enough to justify the space and inventory Speaking of room, I have to agree with someone else who stated they do pretty well with the space they have. It's not all that big. Thus, the selection isn't biggest I've seen, but they have some interesting marine corals and livestock that I still find myself wanting to check in to see what they have. In the past, I've tried to spread my money around when it comes to fish shops in the area, but as far as I know, they don't have much competition in the area, when it comes to salt water items, anyway. And after coming here a year and having almost entirely good things to say, I guess there is a reason for that. read more

This is the worst store for saltwater fish in Metro Detroit that I have been to. First off they thought I was a beginner and thought that I didn't know what I was doing so they fed me with a bunch of lies. My tank was only cycled for 2 weeks and they tested my water which came back with high nitrites and said you can add anything to the tank you want even corals not even knowing what light I have. The test kit they use is the API test strips which is the only store I've been to that uses those which are known for inaccuracy. The tall guy with the glasses is all about the money, STAY AWAY from this store. Not to mention how they try to talk down about other stores that have better stock. You can look at their tanks and see how filthy they are. Go to Stingray Bay or Kee's instead. They are much better and will give you an honest opinion so you won't waste your money. read more

They even sold me fish that do not live together. they sold me a starfish that died after 2 days, and when i told them, the owner told me it is my problem and he knew it is gonna die. I am shocked to hear any negative reviews of this small but very knowledgable business. In a world of Petcos and Petsmarts, customer service is going to keep you in business. Dean, the owner, is very helpful and almost always there. He has personally made sure that my daughter and I have felt confident and comfortable the whole time. A pretty small place located in the middle of a strip mall. They've done very well with the limited space available, though. All the staples are there, and if they don't have something you're looking for, the friendly staff is willing to order it for you. Every time I've been there, they've been very knowledgeable and helpful. Very impressive selection of saltwater fish and corals, especially for the size of the place. It's definitely more of a fish store than an aquarium store (although they do have some plus filters, decorations, etc). I will never go to this store ever again! The sales guy miss lead me about the fish I purchases. So rather than being informative and well HONEST. He MADE A SALE! The two puffer fish both had ICH and ended up dying The eel did need a secured top for containment in the fish tank. Not as the sales guy put it. "No different than other fish" Well it exited the tank and died of course. I take part of the blame on the eel. I knew better than to just take the sales guys opinion at face value. I would not be near as upset, if I did not just simply feel he was miss-leading with his reply's to my questions. Regarding the fish I was purchasing. Just so he could make the sale! They have always been nothing but nice every time I've gone in. They will answer all your questions. It's a small, local store and usually only has one maybe two employees in it. BUYER BEWARE. This place is fine for buying fish food and filter supplies. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FISH FROM HERE. Against our better judgement after seeing that some of the tanks looked unhealthy, we always try to support local business, and we purchased a blue ram, thinking it would be ok, as we have owned fish for over 35 years, and have never had a problem. The blue ram died the next day after bringing him home. We also purchased guppies as feeders for our beautiful Jack Dempsey; a week later our jack was dead. I've owned fish for over 35 years, and although it is known practice to quarantine new fish, I have never done so and it has never been a problem. Fast forward to two weeks after purchasing fish from Atlantis, twelve of my fish are dead, and I presume the remaining five will be dead by the end of the week. I've spent over $70 on treatments for ich, to no avail. All of our fish will be dead. We are absolutely heartbroken. read more

I still stop here on every now and then and find the occasional gem. I have had mixed results with the health of fish and inverts. Corals are usually healthy though. Way over priced although you can usually negotiate the price down, especially if you buy multiple things. I would only shop here if you know what you are doing and know the requirements of the creatures you are buying as they sometimes give mixed advice and I often get unsavory hitchhikers from their stock. read more
